Seeing this blog be active again inspired me to replay awakening

Aw that's awesome, I hope you have fun!

The fact that this is the ten year mark (not day-wise just year wise) of the game's release I found myself feeling nostalgic about it. And I don't have my drawing tablet atm so why not put some quotes up.

I don't know how active we'll be going forward, will most likely not be regular. I still gotta go through the inbox and check on submissions/image submissions, but there will still be posts here and there!

I saw a blazed post regarding Sonic Frontiers the other day that, as I remember, was essentially saying that you can't really count datamined unused lines as Canon For Your Ship Wars, which, fair, even if it seemed to be coming from an annoying 'so that's why My Ship is canon neener neener' angle, but Then.

Then. They had to go and say something like 'and besides datamining is Illegal and we wouldn't want to sully SEGA's games with it'. Which got them a banhammer from my blog.

Listen. Datamining is an incredibly important part of gaming culture. It's part of how mods work. It's part of how we get historical information. Knowing that there are unused lines or assets or whatever in any given game gives us a window into its development. It fuels fanfic and fan speculation, even if, yeah, generally speaking it should be taken as at best trivia and not part of the work's text.

It's a vital part of games preservation, and often a vital part of emergent sports like speedrunning.

And, uh. If you own something you own the right to take it apart. That applies to programs as much as to physical objects. It can be a dick move in certain contexts, such as spoiling unreleased characters, and may break terms of service in similar contexts, but, er, those don't really apply to a single player game that's been out for a while.

It just struck me as very corporate bootlicky, you know? And we are not about that here.

to be honest i think mod goldmary or whatever you end up called in future updates is well and truly hilarious.

your most hated character is stahl, a guy designed to be fairly mild and average on purpose to go against how intense and distinct sully is. his most potent character flaw being his scatterbrained-ness, and is otherwise a good-natured sort of everyman type, very inoffensive kind of bloke. even back when awakening's fanbase was alive, he had a small, but respectable following, and people who married him. humble, but present. there's even a fanartist or two who survived the extinction of the 3ds dinosaurs who hold a candle for stahl.

meanwhile your favourite is makalov. the guy you'd put ring on is makalov. one of fe's most hated characters. a man so hillariously defined overwhelmingly by his character flaws that any good qualities he does have get completely eclipsed, a guy hated by all, that no one wants to waifu-up, no one wants to put a ring on his finger. universal disdain, seemingly a joke character of some kind, the slimiest man around, a lazy good-for-nothing through and through, a burden to his sister, loathed by all who meet him in-universe and out.

its like the roles got reversed or something, and it's so fucking funny. the one true makalov lover, the one true stahl hater. all contained into someone who was bold enough to make a fire emblem takes blog, a franchise that over time, became famous for constant bickering and hot takes being flung around like the world's busiest catapults were all in one place. truly, life ever had a major character, it'd be you. god knows how you do it.

also the feh devs should never be allowed to make another game ever again. have you seen some of these units? you need a fucking phd to play aether raids these days. absolutely mental.

Did Lo'ak did or say something to you? So many questions popped up in his head. But when you told him that it was just period cramps he was hella confused. So you had ro explain it to him. He was surprised that this is actually happening to women. He asked if you need anything and when you told him that you just want him to hold you, he didn't wait a second.

Lo'ak as well wouldn't know what period is or period cramps, but when he found you in your hut crying and curled up in a ball he would get into a protective bf mod and ran to you. Asked so many questions like if someone hurt you. When you told him about that you're just having your period, he calmed down but within a second he was like - what period? what is that?? You explained him everything and he was speechless. You just wanted a little comfort from him and of course like a loving, touch starved and little clingy boyfriend, he happily gave you what you wanted.

His own eyes softened when he saw you in such a vulnerable state. He ran to you and cup your face in his hands. When you told him that it's just period cramps, he was even more confused. You had to explain it to him. He was surprised and speechless. But he gave up on hunting right after you told him that you want to cuddle.

How long is your roleplay experience? Easily 15+ years. I did RP on DeviantArt of all things (and even became a mod of said rp); moved to tumblr RP when it got popular, but then took a break for a few years when tabletop games took interest proper; returned to RP when Cecil and I found TOA.

How were you introduced to roleplaying as a whole? Outside of DeviantArt, I grew up playing a lot of make believe games with friends, which eventually moved to text. But really, dA was the big one that hooked me to RP proper....wild...

How were you introduced to TOA? Cecil was the one who found it? But I was wishing for more tumblr RPs around the time, since discord ones felt too intimidating.

What is your favorite time of year and why? (Season, holiday, general period) I like the part of fall where the leaves change colours. Seeing flora change in general is fun for me.

What is your IRL occupation? IT Support; I also do game dev (mainly TTRPG) on the side when I can

Some interests and things you like/enjoy? I like running TTRPG games, drawing, designing and coding spreadsheets. Making improv games on the fly, rules and all. I also like exploring new places, especially when they're local. Picnics on the beach or park are great.

What non-Fire Emblem games do you play? A lot, but the game I just beat is Xenoblade Chronicles. I'm the sole remaining World Flipper fan- I mean, I like JRPGs a lot, so games like LiveALive and Chrono Cross come to mind as well.

Favorite Pokemon type & Pokemon: Bug type. Snom, Grubbin, Pinurchin, Trapinch, pokemon that have the shape (tm) are my favorites. I've always had a soft spot for the Lati duo as well.

Tell us some funfacts and trivia about yourself! I've lived in Japan for a fair bit, and became N5 proficient through that. I'm trying to study for N4. I will also never stop talking about TTRPG - namely that I make games and one of them is Fire Emblem based.

How did you get into Fire Emblem? NO JOKE BUT I first learned of Fire Emblem through some promotional pamphlet that came with Pokemon Sapphire I think??? And then saw them in Smash. Cecil definitely helped me get into it proper.

What Fire Emblem games have you played? Easier to say what I haven't, which is FE1 and FE3 (or their remakes). Only played Echoes, not FE2. The only games I started and never beat are Warriors, Three Hopes, and FE5.

First & Favorite Fire Emblem games: First exposure was one of the GBA, but Awakening was the first I beat proper, I think. My favorite FE games are 4 and 6.

List your 5 favorite Fire Emblem characters across the series! Niamh, Joshua, Hugh, Idunn, Lethe? Those are the first to come to mind that I consistently like.

Who was the first character ever to make you go “ooh I like this one in particular” and why? Can be any context and reason! This would have been so long ago...I liked characters like Chad, Lugh, Ricken, etc because they were the 'small boy who might not be taken seriously' type. Which, given I was a lot younger back then, also treated younger than i was by my family, and starting to realize I don't define my gender neatly, they were important characters to sympathize with.

Do you believe you have a type of character you gravitate towards writing? I like writing characters who appear composed, put together, etc, but are actually definitely not. Their ability to empathize is either super good or they struggle dearly (but are aware of that shortcoming). the more unconventional their gender, identity, etc is, the better.

Do you have characters or types of characters you don’t think you can handle writing, but wish you could? Honestly any character with a sizeable amount of lore. I'd just spend way too much time worrying I interpreted one of their support conversations wrong or don't do the character 'the right way'.

What kind of scenes, situations etc do you believe you enjoy writing the most? I like writing situations where the characters learn a new facet about themselves, or discover a place beyond their wildest dreams.

Do you have any scenario in mind for your muse(s) that gets you thinking “man I hope I get to write this one day”? Maybe something that lets me explore Hugh's past or defines Niamh pre-meeting Cipher crew?

Aside from Sommie, there are a couple of FE6 characters (Lugh, Raigh, Idunn) who could be fun but I like sticking to one muse per game. Constance I think about off and on but she hits my 'has too many supports' and therefore I'd worry about playing right. I still rotate the Three Hopes supports I read though. Maybe someday

HELP yeah i probably shouldve told you the mod creator swapped a lot of the skills around for balance reasons. personally i dont love a lot of the changes, but i definitely get why he did them (in hindsight. proc skills at level 5 is actually an insane choice on intsys’s part). i did get really pissed when i leveled sully through great knight for luna to pass to kjelle only to find out it got swapped to a wyvern lord skill like omfg why am i passing her dual guard rn… but i’ll dm u the changelog doc it helps

To the people who live in the town closest to her grandma's rusty old shack, she is the brightest smile in the dead of night. Darting around liquored stained tables at the poorly staffed saloon, she's the town's charming canary if you got a spare coin or two to drop in the jar near her perch.

But to the people who worship the horrors of No Man's Land with steel and gunpowder, she is the Best Gunsmith on this wretched planet. Sure her tiny establishment is a pain in the ass to find in the desert (she hasn't moved it since it was built but people love to theorize that it moves around on a WAM or somethin') but it's out there alright. Apparently if you're good enough to fix up, mod, and customize just about any kind of firearm that walks through your door you start causing some commotions deep underground. The kind of rumbling you only hear legends about:

"A small woman with a sharp tongue and sharper eyes who will only accept payment in the form of favors that must be repaid, 'less the fool who can't keep their end of the bargain meet their end."

To be fair, it's not like she causes those types of people grief on purpose. Everyone's got junk luck on No Man's Land, so you can't blame them for dyin' on her before they can do anything. But shit does it feel so cool to have such an infamous reputation. After all, that's her grandma's name she's gotta upkeep, and she can't afford to let her beloved Tutu's prestige go down in the quicksand. Can’t even bring herself to sully it with her own hands she keeps covered so religiously…

Perhaps that's why her smile shines so bright at night when she perches on her tiny little box to play yet another wonderful tune for her tiny little audience.

After all, doesn't silver shine brighter than gold in these parts?
