Ships will be tagged with the official name as well as full names by surname, alphabetised, and individual characters will be tagged in full, as well as prompt and day the item was made for. Content warnings will be tagged at the end of the post where applicable. No guarantee they will always appear in this order but I’m hoping to be consistent!
example: #Coinshipping , #Mazaki Anzu x Nosaka Miho , #Day 3, #Greyscale, #Major Character Death CW
I am looking forward to seeing everyone’s hard work soon! Prompt Days have been scheduled to appear in Australian Eastern Standard time.
Its insides look so ordinary you could've almost forgotten everything else. You can almost wish this was just a train home.
"Took your time, didn't you?" a mirthful comment as you all enter. It's none other than your tormentor, Enma--or Mika Katsuragi?--in the flesh. The train's lights flicker once, twice. It seems she's been waiting for you in this train.
In her hands is a strange dagger sheathed in red, pommel topped with the head of her namesake. Enma, the judge of hell.
"Now, take a seat," Enma gestures towards the seats lining the wall of the train. She's all smiles as everyone comes in. The train begins to move.
"Are you enjoying the game?" she grins from her seat as she looks at everyone. "Of course not. I am, though," she laughs. "So we're moving to the next part!" announced with an energetic wave of hand as she stands up in middle of the moving train.
She spreads her arms. "I've given you time to play detective and find all the necessary evidence," then snaps her fingers, pointing at you.
"Now's the time to chat! Talk with each other and discuss who's killed Futamata. Sus it out among yourselves. Find the shape of the crime, the truth behind it, and the reason for its happening. Then I will give you your reward and your punishment."
A wink! "That'll be the end of this game!"
Enma smiles, raising the ornate, sheathed dagger in her hand with the sound of a small bell. A clash of image with her outfit, surely. "You've gone and found the shape already. The murder of Ruri Futamata." The bell rings once more, as if to confirm. Enma pets the head, stepping backwards with a giggle.
"The truth--what happened? Describe the events of the crime. Settle it." She twirls the weapon, and it disappears somewhere. Cheerfully, Enma returns to her seat.
She's watching with an eager, anticipating expression. Like a girl excited to watch a new episode of her favorite anime.
The trial has started! This is a submission-based trial, where you will be sending your posts through tumblr to this blog. They can be of any length you like.
It’s custom among these posts that if you’re speaking relevant information, it should be bolded. Example:
Enma points an accusing finger. “The murder was committed by that one dumbass sorcerer in the Heian court, because he’s stupid.”
While there isn’t a strict rule or anything, titles are typically formatted as: [Title] || [Character Name] || Trial [X]. To easier keep track of things too, you can add RE: [name] and/or ATTN: [name] in your post’s title whenever you’re replying to a character and/or calling out to a character respectively. Example:
Shnoblings Rising || Enma || Trial 69 || RE: Miho, ATTN: Okubo
Remember that when you’re writing a post, you should let people know in the rp-request channel–make sure that no one is writing their own first. You can form a queue of sorts if you like! When you have submitted a post, be sure to @ a mod.
Give everyone a chance to post and discuss the events! Don’t dump a bunch of the evidence in a single post so everyone can include what they found.
Not every post needs to be long or useful! React or be goofy as you like~
Have fun! If you have any more questions, just hit us up about it.
Between all this this (Dragon Jar is from the manga, the rest is exclusive to toei 1998) and the “Devil’s Board Game” mentioned in Otogi’s arc in the manga, there’s an implication of a whole underworld of shady, often-occult gaming rituals, with multiple cultures creating an umbrella concept of “clandestine high-stakes gambling + occult curses executed via games” independent of each other. and of some of the people invested in the former going out of their way to collect the latter via any means necessary.
The way this is executed outside of Japanese and western examples is often... exoticizing, focusing on how ~weird and spooky and foreign~ Egypt/China/India/etc are, and this is sucks.
(Skipping Egypt b/c the baggage of the millennium items being framed early on as “because Egypt is inherently weird and spooky” and how Yugioh treats modern Egyptians would require its own post, which I am not prepared to write.)
The Dragon Jar is clearly Gu magic combined with a mahjong variant, but Gu is just as much an “evil taboo sorcery“ concept as the Japanese form, kodoku, is in Japan; it is most certainly not associated with "training Feng Shui masters.”
And Aileen’s game being a Chaturanga variant is, conceptually, fine. And honestly, I kinda like her as a character. What’s... not good is how her having statues of Hindu deities in her apartment is written into the episode to be practically framed as a red flag, suddenly emphasing her Indian-ness in contrast to her more “familiar” Canadian-ness. And her having a pet attack tiger is just... do I have to say anything?
But I feel it’s got to be possible to execute the “different cultures keep fucking inventing this” concept while making it clear “this isn’t any more Normalized and non-taboo for Egypt/China/India/etc than it is for Japan or Europe.”
...On a different, lighter note, early Yugioh’s games often also suffer from Duel Monster’s Calvinball Syndrome and “Everyone plays like a Timmy even when it doesn’t make sense” syndrome. This would probably have continued to be an issue even if Yugioh hadn’t become a card game commerical. But can you imagine if the series’s middle stretch had gone into exploring this, instead of focusing on a singular TCG? At the very least, there would be less monotony.
"So sad miho wasn't brought back for duel monsters" "I wish they used miho more in the other series" shut up shut up miho is a character who literally cannot exist in any remotely faithful adaptation of the manga and you will respect her as such
And the longest song ends up being a random freeplay song, and by a longshot. It also hasn't been finished yet. Final length will prob be around six minutes?
Still need to add Imori and Tomoya's sections
