I'm a bass player, I've been playing for nine years now. A few of my favorite songs I've learned to play over the years are A World Without Logos (the opening theme for the original Hellsing anime), Kick Back (Chainsaw Man's opening), Precious Heart (Sakura's theme from Street Fighter EX 3, possibly better known for being Maximilian Dood's outro), and Feel Good Inc. by Gorillaz.

I play a lot of competitive games, mainly fighting games (current favorites are Guilty Gear Strive and Tekken 8), but I also play some non-fighting game competitive games! Namely, I have a lot of fun playing Pokémon Showdown (a Pokémon battle simulator) and Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel.

This one isn't as core to my personality as the others by any means, but I have a yearly tradition of playing either a comedy dating sim or Doki Doki Literature Club on Valentine's Day. Started when I was living on campus for college, and on Valentine's Day I was bored since I had over an hour before class would start. I had my laptop on me, and with nothing better to do, I started playing a comedy dating sim that a content creator I liked had made public recently. Same thing happened the next year, but with the comedy dating sim played through already, this time I played DDLC. And I've kept it going for the past 4 years or so.

Last update in the Drac-log, checking in with the final plot threast of the last few days, the continuing adventures of Mina and Lucy-Chan.

Lucy arrives by train to Whitby, a seaside town in North Yorkshire. A common comment I see, and disagree with, is that the novel Dracula involves an "Old World" monster from the past entering a "new, modern world", Eastern superstition pushing into Western reason. Frankly, I find that reading to be lacking. As we saw in Jonathan's recipe-gathering travelogue, Eastern Europe is a vibrant place, just as connected to the modern world despite its remoteness and cultural distance. Likewise, in Mina's descriptions of Yorkshire, England has plenty of its own supernatural mysteries and centuries old history in play in Dracula.

The Larpool Viaduct was constructed in 1884, and would be a brand new example of Victorian engineering.

Whitby Abbey, described in the same paragraph, is a ruin for centuries by Stoker's time, having been built in 657 CE and confiscated by Henry VIII in 1538 CE. Like Dracula's Transylvania, drawing in contemporary law reviews and banking from all across Europe, England is a mix of the mundane and the supernatural in much the same way. Mina makes reference to a "White Lady" ghost who haunts ruins.

Marmion, referenced as well, is a 1808 poem by Sir Walter Scott full of melodrama and intrigue. Per wikipedia, a summation:

The poem tells how Lord Marmion, a favourite of Henry VIII of England, lusts for Clara de Clare, a rich woman. He and his mistress, Constance De Beverley, forge a letter implicating Clare's fiancé, Sir Ralph De Wilton, in treason. Constance, a dishonest nun, hopes that her aid will restore her to favour with Marmion. When De Wilton loses the duel he claims in order to defend his honour against Marmion, he is obliged to go into exile. Clare retires to a convent rather than risk Marmion's attentions.

Mina meets a man in a pictureque graveyard overlooking the bay. An accent assumes. Stoker is a great writer and Dracula ages incredibly well and reads smoothly... until you meet his accents.

Mina receives one of the letters, via Mr. Hawkin's, that Dracula sent out in place of Jonathan. Mina immediately questions its veracity, because Mina is the smartest character in the book and doesn't get enough credit for this. She's distracted, however, by Lucy's habit of sleep-walking.

Political headcanons under the cut

Alroy's stance on politics is the easiest to talk about in the sense that he…doesn't have one. He trusts that the people in power know what they're doing and ignores all of the heavy stuff in favor of writing songs and snuggling Zanna. This stance comes from privilege Alroy either is oblivious to or won't acknowledge.

Ebony is a step up from her father—she still is hesitant to completely tear down the Triumvirate because it's all she's ever known, but she opened the door for commoners to be more active participants by allowing them to speak directly to the Triumvirate about their concerns. Rather than the Triumvirate independently creating laws that affect everyone else, the population can make suggestions to the Triumvirate and they can vote on whether to make them official laws or not.

Franklin is against any hierarchical structure based on bloodlines…or just hierarchical structures in general. His ideal society would be classless and stateless—social classes and the state can't be separated (especially in the Triumvirate, where the state's foundations are built on the idea of the elites being more qualified to run a society than anyone else) and abolishing one requires to abolish the other. He's more of a proponent for direct democracy, where the electorate decides on stuff without relying on representatives as proxies. Franklin is aware that his ideology is incredibly radical in the eyes of the Triumvirate, which is why he lets Delilah do her thing even if he doesn't completely agree with what she's doing. Like, Franklin thinks that the transition to a classless society should be immediate…but the last thing he wants is to be assassinated for being "a communist foreigner who wants to completely destroy society".

Lundyn is bothered by the fact that the political power rests in elites that do nothing but breed with each other and act hoity toity. Knowing the history of how the Triumvirate became a thing (spoilers—none of the Big Three Families are inherently better than anyone else) makes it even more sickening to him. If he weren't born into the Big Three Families, he would call to have all of them executed and go all French Revolution. However, killing family members is something Lundyn isn't willing to do so that's out of the question. (I don't think he'd be fully a pacifist like Franklin—the glorified state-sponsored execution they call "dueling" isn't fair because it's rich people killing poor people, but poor people killing rich people is okie dokie.) He isn't completely comfortable dissolving the state entirely because he believes that elites with worse intentions are going to take over and make a worse government, so he thought that completely seizing control and essentially becoming a benevolent dictator was the best solution. He eventually wants to hand over control to the proletariat, but wants to wait until the proletariat has enough resources to stand a chance against the bourgeoisie. Still, Lundyn places value on participating in society and believes people need to earn their citizenship. Franklin and Vivian would be bothered by this because it's highkey ableist, but Lundyn justifies his beliefs by going "Of course I'm not going to punish people if they're actually disabled!" (which isn't exactly helpful, especially not to Franklin).

Oswald is progressive for his time, but he still doesn't let go of the idea of the Triumvirate. He grew up preparing to be a representative and believes there's always going to be a Triumvirate. I guess he leans towards the authoritarian side of things since he believes he has a duty to help the commoners rather than giving commoners the control. He's also guilty of allowing certain outdated traditions to continue, like placing his children in arranged marriages. Granted, he wouldn't force his children to do something they don't want to do, but it's a questionable idea to arrange who your daughters are going to marry the moment they hatch…

Vivian takes some guidance from Ebony and Oswald, though she thinks there's a lot more that can be done. She doesn't fault Ebony and Oswald for not doing more because they did lay down essential stepping stones towards progress, but she knows society can still be improved. However, the details of how things should be better are still blurry. She knows she's on the bottom left corner of the political compass and has a good idea of what her ideals are, but she has a harder time settling on what is the most ideal way to run things. Like, she's gotten as far as to come to the conclusion the Triumvirate should be dismantled and power should be given to the commoners…but how to actually execute that idea still eludes her.

Forgotten Land Figure Comparison

So, uh...I said I wouldn't do any more figure comparisons by request, but I ended up watching a JP and EN figure showcase side to side for a different Forgotten Lands related ask and found a few more minor details lost in translation! ...And Here We Are!

-It's mentioned the Waddle Dees are actually having a great time rebuilding the village and living their new life there - in a very "Waddle Dee" manner.

-Meta Knight is specifically stated to have been brought to the forgotten land AFTER Kirby and King Dedede, not before. This one just seems to be a mistranslation and I don't know how it got in, since it's mentioned in both "The Lone Swordsman Meta Knight" and "A Duel With Meta Knight."

-"Captured Waddle Dees" in Japanese says the Dees tried to combine their strength but couldn't do anything to break the cage. That said, "...Oh. Never mind. They're too sad to move" is the most hilarious thing I've ever seen, so I gotta give props to the EN.

-"Awoofy" says the Awoofys and Waddle Dees DO NOT get along ("like cats and dogs") and they'll chase and snatch in their mouth any Dee they find. (The Dees do look a little like squeaky toys.)

-Morpho Knight Sword Ability Figure: (EN) "...handling this power is...a breeze." (Spring Breeze reference.) (JP) "Surprisingly easy to use for Kirby, who can devour even nightmares." (Kirby's Adventure reference)

-"Adventure Together" in English has the narrator sarcastically praise Kirby on his notoriously awful singing voice. In Japanese, the narrator jokingly thinks about how their heart is racing (doki doki...) at the prospect of Kirby singing...

This is also a reference to Sailor Dee’s line right before the duel with Meta Knight in Super Star/Ultra’s "Revenge of Meta Knight."

-There's a line in "Rare-Stone Master" mentioning that the rifts connect to many different worlds before starting in that no one knows where the "Treasure Roads" came from.

-"King of the Beasts Leongar" confirms Elfilin's full title as "Fecto Elfilin."

-"Invasive Species Fecto Forgo (Larva)" adds just a teeny bit more about the native inhabitants. It is said after acquiring "dream-like technology" (you COULD stretch this to mean "DREAM technology," but I would be very careful about taking that interpretation) they left this planet because it became too cramped / limiting for them.

-"Fecto Forgo" points out specifically that the energy Forgo needed (got from the beast pack members that it turned into The Thing) was to maintain any kind of stable form outside the capsule.

-The line about Phantom Sillydillo still being an impressive dancer was added in English. At a guess, it's because 'forever wandering the illusory islands in search of two creatures who aren't even there' was....a little depressing sounding.

-"Possessed Beast Forgo Leon" confirms that Elfilis was only a "soul" at that point (emphasizing the wording here because of the importance of that one word in Kirby) and mentions that the remains of Leon's own "soul" continued to resist against him.

Anyway, that should about cover it! The “Deedly Dees” have a different name in Japanese, but that’s just a language thing. And they replaced all “Wanya!” with “Wah!” Weird because you can hear them say “Wanya!”, but ah well.

Prince of Lan Ling’s Interlude: The Romance of Edward Teach

So, we open up Lan Ling’s interlude from the POV of someone following and recording him, observing how Lan Ling goes about his day. The first node is a 1v1 of Lan Ling and Yagyu dueling in the simulator, no other party members or Mystic Code abilities.

After training, Lan Ling goes to the library, where he’s a regular. While getting him a book, Murasaki falls. Lan Ling manages a perfect catch, doing so with the least amount of indecent physical touching as possible, so as to respect her boundaries. Hearts start to go doki doki. Shoujo sparkles included.

God I wish that was me (either character). After a chat with Jason and Paris, then a duel with Penthelisea where the pair bond over wearing masks, Lan Ling confronts his stalker. It was Blackbeard all along! He was totally not jealous of Lan Ling’s good looks and spirit and was trying to find the secret rotten core inside of him that must exist. Blackbeards findings were, “He’s handsome both inside and out!”

Blackbeard goes on for a bit about how Lan Ling catching Murasaki awoke something inside of him...

The pair decide to settle this with a fight. Blackbeard’s a pirate though and brought back-up. Unfortunately for him, that back-up was a certain strategist...

Blackbeard and Chen Gong have unlimited guts stacks, so you need to wait while Chen Gond counts down. 3, 2, 1... Then he fires Blackbeard at you, regardless of his NP charge. If you survive, the battle ends. Reeling from betrayal and defeat, Blackbeard slips and falls. Luckily, Lan Ling is there to catch him.

Blackbeard finally gets the dream come true, an event CG with a beautiful man. We get calming, romantic music playing during the scene, Blackbeard is happy and Lan Ling is confused. After everything is done, Lan Ling heads back with you to your room, comments how he’s exhausted but had a great time with the chaotic events of the day. The PC and him then exchange “war stories” about all the chaotic people in your lives, and the interlude ends.

And in all I enjoyed this interlude immensely. It was a great example of the natural charisma of Lan Ling and how others feel around him. If you want to see his flaws, you won’t get them here, but sometimes you just need to see someone’s good side. The interlude also somehow managed to pull off a gay scenario that worked by playing it totally straight and sincerely. Like, it’s still a gay joke, but it works. And they did it with Blackbeard of all people, kudos.

Oki doki! Sit down children, it's time for another FL ramble with granny Jun. As always, excuse my wordings. English isn't my first language so it's difficult to form sentences. I’ll provide some screenshots to sorta get a glimpse of what I’m thinking =w=

TOURNAMENT ARC!!

Once you reach master rank(or lower?), you'll get the option to participate in tournaments. It should have its own ranking system (like rookie, elite, champion?) so you'll be raising up your rank to become the champion. When you become the champion of all lives, you'll get to face off Gladstone for the Crown title 👑 It will be another end goal for you!

Before Gladstone, you'll be going up against other NPCs within your rank. Main story NPCs can also appear in the tournament. Some are easy, some are difficult but they shouldn't stray too far from your current skill level. Each characters has their own speciality so sometimes it's good to understand which technique is effective on which character 👍

Multiplayer

You can also go up against other players online. It shouldn't affect your rank because you're already ranking up in single... multi would have to be separated. Competitive fantasy life GASP!

The Tournament Tower (I don’t know what to call it xD)

It might look similar to the ancient tower in origin island. Each layer specially designed for each category (combat, crafting and collecting) imagine the music building up as you walk towards the tower 😳 something like unova or ruby/sapphire's (the remix on yt) victory road theme from pkm. ooo the chills...!

Gameplay

Paladin, mercenary, wizard and hunter(?) will be a duel in the colosseum like floor. Before the match starts, you'll have to set up your equipment and the items you need in your pouch. You'll only have access to your pouch during battle, anything else is off limits!

3 rounds limit. You fight until you or your opponents HP reaches 0 or if you get knocked off the stage. You can also forfeit by running out the stage.

Chef, alchemist, blacksmith, tailor and carpenter will be a battle on who can craft the highest quality items. Before the actual match starts, you'll be given a theme to follow (like castele style, port Puerto style and such...) after receiving the theme, you'll be free to gather your ingredients and materials then come back to start the match.

You have to choose 1 recipe from each category that fits the theme. You'll be judge on time taken, recipes difficulty and how well you do in the mini game. Your final score will depend on how you do overall and how well you follow the theme.

I also want to add your opponent crafting in the background as well. Really adds to the feeling of the competitive spirit and STRESS. 

Miner, woodcutter, and angler will be a time trial collecting. You and your opponent will be placed in an area similar to the ancient tower floors with a bunch of minerals, trees and fishes scattered around (it'll be randomized in each match). You gather to gain points, the higher the rarity, the more points you get. Maybe instead of carrying 3 bounties, you can carry 5 in the competition?  

This one feels like it's luck based... I mean, luck does play a role as well but I also want to rely on the player's knowledge on where each rare materials are in Reveria... Maybe each room will be based on specific area in the map. Randomized rooms? Multiple floors? Solve puzzles to get to certain rooms? 

I'll have to think more about it. I’m still coming up with stuff along the way =w=

In honour of my currently being flat broke, here’s a rec list of Steam games that are 100% free -- no microtransactions, no demos. In the interest of brevity I’m going to omit detailed content warnings; be sure to check each title’s tags first if you have concerns!

Here we go:

Becalm - More of a meditation app than a game per se, this one sends you on a procedurally generated boat ride accompanied by relaxing music. No interactivity beyond the ability to look around with the mouse -- it can’t even be called a walking simulator, because there’s no walking!

Dead Horizon - A short visual novel about a gunslinger’s final duel with Death Himself. The story is related through a series of flashbacks that occur during the fatal confrontation. Some mouse-based twitch elements, though the game is short enough that dying is no big deal.

Doki Doki Literature Club - There’s a 99.9% chance you’ve heard of this one, but on the off chance you haven’t (or just didn’t realise it’s free), this one starts out as a standard dating sim, and goes on to earn that “Psychological Horror” tag for genuinely unexpected reason!

ERROR: Human Not Found - A visual novel/adventure game hybrid with dialogue-driven investigative play interspersed with educational puzzles based on various computer science concepts. Probably a bit basic if you already know how to code, but engaging all the same.

Garden of Oblivion - A good old-fashioned fairy tale horror VN, originally written for the Ludum Dare game jam. Clearly inspired by the earlier Dreaming Mary, though it’s not quite so derivative as some of the negative reviews claim.

Heroine’s Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok - A hybrid of a point-and-click adventure game and an old-school RPG where the puzzle solutions vary based on your class abilities. Some survival elements (e.g., finding food), though they can be turned off via the dufficulty settings.

Hollowed - A fun little ability-swapping puzzle-platformer hampered by conspicuously janky physics. Presentation-wise it’s wonderful, but gameplay-wise, whether you’ll be able to enjoy it will largely depend on what your frustration threshold for tripping over level geometry is.

Khimera: Destroy All Monster Girls - If you can get past the “all speaking characters are cute monster girls” premise (and for some that may be a selling point!), this is a very competent melee-focused Mega Man style platformer.

MANDAGON - A surreal nonviolent platformer inspired by Tibetan folklore. This one adheres to the “piece together the narrative from cryptic dialogue fragments” strand of storytelling, so if you enjoy knowing what the heck is going on, be sure to explore thoroughly!

NaissanceE - An atmospheric first-person horror game that mixes walking simulator and puzzle-platformer elements. Many of the puzzles are based on manipulating dynamic lighting, so a decent video card is recommended for this one.

one night, hot springs - A choice-driven VN about a young trans woman attending her best friend’s birthday party. I mention that she’s trans because that’s very much what the game is about; it’s not bleak, but a fair chunk of the plot involves the player character’s dysphoria.

One Ping Only - A game that started out as a student project, whose gimmick is that you’re exploring a dark underwater area with only sonar to guide you. Whether it “clicks” for you will depend on whether the unconventional presentation grabs you, so you’ll know pretty quick.

Overclocked - A momentum-based precision puzzle-platformer in the mode of Celeste, except this one is about transhumanism and punching robots. So. Much. Robot-punching. A very good one to speed run, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Pink Heaven - A run-and-gun platformer from the developer of Cave Story. Technically breaks the “no demos” rule, as it’s meant as a standalone tutorial for commercial game called Kero Blaster, but it stands reasonably well on its own, short play time notwithstanding.

Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt - A ZX Spectrum retroclone RPG where you play as a princess-slash-medical-student who fixes people’s physical and mental problems by magically travelling inside their bodies and fighting their ailments bullet hell style.

A Raven Monologue - A short, textless kinetic novel from the makers of She and the Light Bearer. This is a good one if you enjoy being sad and confused. Hint: the poem that appears on the game’s Steam page is actually part of the narrative.

Return. - A short autoscrolling platformer where you play as some sort of sheep... thing. More forgiving than it looks, though the lack of any save functionality means it has to be completed in one sitting. Yes, the graphics are blurry on purpose.

Saira - Sort of a Metroidvania, though it mostly focuses on abstract logic puzzles rather than tool/environment puzzles. Fair warning: this is the first in planned series from a now-defunct developer, so don’t expect an ending -- but if you’re into indie games you should be used to that!

Tori - I’d call this one a walking simulator, but, well, you fly. Here you play as a bird who flies around reading poems, which actually makes a lot more sense in context than it does just saying it like that. Tip: dial down the mouse sensitivity in the options menu -- it’s way too high by default.

What Never Was - A short, puzzle-driven walking sim about a young woman cleaning out her late grandfather’s attic. It’s not 100% clear whether this is meant to be a standalone prequel to a larger planned story, or just a proof of concept, but it’s a nice short game on its own.

Yume Nikki - The grand matriarch of “so high concept it’s barely playable” RPGMaker titles, and the direct inspiration for an entire genre of surreal dreamscape RPGs where the player turns into things. Try it without a guide, then give up and look up a guide -- everyone does.
