I can't remember the specifics of when Izaya started getting access to the underground but I'm guessing it was pretty young for normal standards...actually given the common trend of gang warfare maybe not. But I feel like he got a little more deep into it than any of the colour gang leaders did. Like didn't he get recruited by Kine?

Anyway, given that and his apparent brilliantness its no wonder so little was done about his delinquency. Even his fights with Shizuo. Like imagine being a teacher for him, and trying to inforce the rules, only to have the knowledge that some yakuza guy has got this kids back for whatever reason. "Oil barrels? I don't see no oil barrels?"

On one hand, no wonder he comes off as a little bratty, but can you blame him? You try being a teenage guardian to two younger sisters. I can see why he might have signed up for an easy route too. I know his parents might have sent him money, but how much of that would really help him? He's a student, if something else came along that allowed him to afford a babysitter I wouldn't blame him for taking the deal.

And imagine growing up where some of the only adults in your life were criminals.

There are so many things that tie into how fucked up he is.

It is so beautiful and soulful and sentimental, and it gave me so much insight into his character while I was writing my fic. There's so many layers to Shizuo's character. I just love him to death. 😍❤️😊

Ah thanks. I think it was a good day. Though not everyone would feel the same but I like when birthdays are not a big deal. Too much going on feels overwhelming. So just getting to call family and hang out with people I like is a great birthday to me.

I think about it frequently. Will he be a shitty dad? Will he be a loving dad? Will he be a cringy dad? Will he be a overworked dad? Would he be a single dad? If so was it an accident? What happened to the mum? Did they love each other or was it just a fling? I think about it too much and I weirdly like the concept

Ah yes I see you too have Izaya brain rot. Deep down I don’t think he’d want to be a dad but if that time came I think he wouldnt run from it which for him is a big deal. He’d be a weird dad but I think he’d try. Loving.. depends. He needs practice at that. Cringy yes. Awful dad jokes. The worst. His work is his life. He loves and hates it but it is what lets him enjoy people and feel close without getting hurt so working a lot, probably. Single dad.. now see that depends, did Izaya adopt, or is this biological and if so who’s the lucky/unlucky lady. And then is he married? Divorced?? Was this a one night stand? Is he a donor????? Its anime though so if he’s a single parent, the mom’s probably passed which-- tragic but single parent Izaya has a ring to it. give him reading glasses and tired dad scruff. IZAYA WITH SCRUFF. bathrobe-- slippers-- tired from taking care of kid(s). I’m rabid. Thank you for this.

When I read/think of Izaya as a dad, what instantly comes to mind is 'god help any future friends and/or romantic partners of that child(ren).'

There’s no way the kids end up “Normal”. Can you imagine being raised by Izaya? No? Well we have evidence of his parenting skills. I call them ‘The incest wasn’t necessary’ crew. That creepy note aside Mairu and Kururi are not normal themselves and ultimately its not Izaya’s fault he was a kid and doing his best as a brother and a replacement parent but that’s as close as we get to seeing how poor his parenting skills are. Not to mention he’s not good at adulting either. I’ve not been able to read his spin off novels but I know he has kids around him and so maybe he gets better (though I doubt it).

I haven't even posted my main Shizuo/Vorona fanfic yet, as it's still being betaed, and I'm getting even more one-shot ideas in my brain, set in the same universe.

WTF? This is a new one for me. Usually, when I'm done with a story, I'm done. But nope, not this time. Shizuo and Vorona want more.

Question: is the Shizuo & Akane pic from the manga or light novel - or is it a fanwork?

Edited to add: Thanks to @mocknerd I found out the Shizuo & Akane pic is from the light novel. As per Google, it was most likely illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda.

Watching Code Geass and hearing all the Durarara!! voice actors got me thinking.

Izaya = Lelouch

Shinra = Suzaku

Nunnally = The twins (Mairu lost her eyesight, Kururi lost her ability to walk)

The comparisons are too real. Angsty smart boys with parent issues and a weird obsession with chess. Younger siblings in their care. Childhood friend who's secretly fucked up and who has caused some weird mixed feelings for angsty smart boy about his intentions. Does this make sense?

I'm just saying.

Does anybody acknowledge Izaya's charm at all? I mean the guy works for yakuza and other big businesses, the guy kinda needs it. And he had to lure teenagers in some how. That sounded bad. No wonder he gets labelled with stranger danger
