Audiodrama Sunday 1/12/2025
Happy Audiodrama Sunday! I caught up on a lot of stuff this week, got up to date with The Cryptonaturalist, and really enjoyed the new Stories from Ylelmore.
@cryptonature - I finally caught up with The Cryptonaturalist. I love the vibes of this show, but I don't know how to review it. It's on my list of podcasts to add to my website, but it's so hard to concisely describe the feel of it.
@storiesfromylelmore - So much Keryth backstory this episode wow. Her heart had “a hole”, she was hospitalized for long enough to befriend other hospital kids, some of them died, then she made a deal with a monster to fix the hole in her heart. Keryth wasn't even the focus of this episode!
@starfallpod - Leona and Fel finally made up, and we learned a lot about both of them.
Mockery Manor(@longcatmedia) - I finally got around to listening to the new mockery mini. It was really good, and revealed some interesting backstory. I love how we've seen the history of this park over decades.
@starsfellradio - I truly will never understand Gabe and BBs dynamic. The hard cut at the end of the last episode in the miniseason was perfect.
Starwhal Odyssey - The imps are so much fun! I love the other players being able to call in with requests whenever they want to. Hell being fundamentally just capitalism is very fun.
@midstpodcast - Cleo and Dot are everything to me. God that ending was so intense. Unend couldn't be more different from Midst tonally, but I love the direction its going.
Mall Brats - I was giggling this whole episode. Their downtime episodes are so good. I truly will never get tired of Abdul interrupting a scene to hard cut to Fenton doing something incredibly stupid.
Skyjacks: Courier's Call - God damn Wing Whispering is actually terrifying. "Talking to birds" being "giving the birds part of your human intelligence, allowing them to understand you, but changing them and you forever" is essentially eldritch horror, and "There are some that say that that's where lionbirds came from" is just as scary.
Rude Tales of Magic - The body horror in this one actually got to me. I love when actual plays have players playing multiple characters (also see Courier's Call and Starwhal).
@goodmorningevildoers - This was a longer episode. I really wish I could get my compliance trainings beamed into my brain, I got 16 trainings assigned to me last week(my coworkers only got 8!).
Next week I'm going to be on a trip over the weekend, so probably no Audiodrama Sunday post unless I remember to do it beforehand and schedule it.

159 is @longcatmedia's Mockery Manor!
Mystery/thriller/dark comedy. In 1989, twins JJ and Bette start their summer jobs at Mockery Manor, a popular English theme park. They soon begin to realise that under its cheerful exterior, the park is hiding many sinister secrets.
Three seasons for a total of 37 episodes, as well as one miniseries.

Today, we’re thrilled to bring you one of our favourite shows - the noirish sci-fantasy western MIDST 💎
But! This episode is slightly different. We got the opportunity to sit down with Xen, Sara and Matt (the show’s three mysterious creators) to discuss the making of both Midst and Mockery Manor. We’ve been admiring each others’ shows since their respective beginnings, so it was a real treat to chat with them!
Head to the Mockery Manor feed to listen, then subscribe to Midst in the usual podcast places!

This podcast ask seems really cool! So I have to two! 18.) are their any podcasts that you regret listening to? and 16 any songs you associate with podcasts (particularly Ghost Wax this may or may not be used in my playlist)
Any podcasts I regret listening to…? Mockery Manor. It is compelling and all, but the season 1 end ruined it for me and I never wished to come back to it.
Songs I associate with podcasts? I do this for three, just to spice it up a little.
1. I associate Ghost Wax with I Miss You by blink-182 actually because I imagine it’s Luca and Charlie talking to each other. If that’s not your playlist’s style, totally fine.
2. I associate Kakos Industries with Social Climb by Idkhbtfm, mostly because of the name and the protag’s vibe.
3. I associate The Meat Blockade with No One Lives Forever. The very cartoonish horror of TMB pairs very well with Oingo Boingo’s music.

Audiodrama Sunday 5/12/24
Lots of "holy shit" moments in new episodes of shows this week, and I started Mockery Manor s3.
I'm not really a horror person, but I'm enjoying @re-dracula. I didn't expect Dracula to be so likeable. Like he's just a guy who thinks England is really cool. I'm sure that he's totally legit and there's a normal explanation for all this, right?
I listened to @longcatmedia's Mockery Manor miniseries The Bette Tapes, and started the third season. The Bette tapes were fun, at first I thought that Bette was taking advantage of Margot, but she's just going into debt which is much funnier. So far I like that the third season is going towards a more traditional murder-mystery plot. By the end of the first episode I realized exactly what was going to happen, and who it was going to happen to.
Season finale of @camlannpod! There was some really good character work in this episode. Gwaine is such a layered character, Gwen is great, and I loved the story of how Dai and Perry met. Also a great season ending, I love hopeful post-apocalypses. I desperately hope this show gets another season.
@worldgonewrongpod this week was wonderful. How much of that stuff about sewer gators and tunnel networks below Chicago is true? I was totally unable to tell when the real history ended and the fiction began.
We also got episode 2 of @wanderersjournalpod. I like the epistolary format. Also, the forest civilization Marigold is from is interesting, I'm excited to learn more about it.
I listened to some more @breakerwhiskey, but not totally caught up. Fox implied that killing Junior will fix the world, I wonder why. It looks like Whiskey is finally close to being reunited with Harry.
@midstpodcast this week blew my mind, then I looked at my phone and there were still 25 minutes left in the episode. Hieronymus holy shit! And then Imogen! This show loves to reveal details that totally recontextualize characters.
@worldsbeyondpod was fucking incredible. Poor Nief (I doubt that's how you spell it). DC25 for the overworked child to accept help! Then the rest of the coven of elders showed up and it blew my mind. Brennan Lee Mulligan's descriptions are one of the best parts of this show, and the sound design to go along with it was amazing.
That's all for this week, next week is a new Midnight Burger and I think Mission Rejected too, I'm excited.

Totally just bought Mockery Manor merch for my baby 😀❤️
I was pregnant throughout Season 3's recordings so I like to think that he was the season's first listener 😅
Can't wait to dress him in this along with his trousers meowsers!
