ANDY the “Personality Robot” by Andrew Filo (1985), Axlon, Sunnyvale, CA. ANDY is designed to work with the Atari 800 (48K) and 800XL, and the Commodore 64. It comes with the PERSONALITY EDITOR, allowing users to edit simple ‘personality’ subroutines in BASIC. “I pushed Nolan [Bushnell] to make a ‘toy’ grade version of Androbot, but it was too late. I returned to Androbot from Christmas Vacation to find I was Fired but told to report to Nolan's Catalyst Building, where He told me to try to develop a toy androbot. I quickly crafted a robot based on the FRED plastics and started on a software package called the personality editor. It cost about 1/10th the price of a FRED and was intended to be a roaming and interactive computer ‘pet’ as opposed to the original drawing turtle. Nolan Christened it Andy Robot to honor me and spite the Androbot.” – Andrew Filo.

Cargo handling has always been a time-consuming and unavoidable work, the emergence of AGV unmanned trucks, instead of people to complete the different states of the handling operation, greatly reduced people's labor intensity and improved the efficiency of the factory. The factory transportation robot system is based on a HandsFree robot and open source system, realizing the robot from map building, navigation, and motion control; it can autonomously and accurately complete the delivery of production materials under the operation scenario of human-machine mixing and provide the flexible flow of materials between production lines.

COMPUROBOT (marketed as 'George' in the UK) by Axlon, Sunnyvale, CA (1985). The COMPUROBOT was produced by Axlon, one of the many companies within Nolan Bushnell’s Catalyst group. With a design ‘inspired’ by V.I.N.CENT from Disney’s ‘The Black Hole’, the $30 COMPUROBOT was a hit. Its 4-bit microprocessor runs programs entered via the keypad on top of its head. It can be programmed to move forward, backward and circle to change direction. It runs at three different speeds and has a torch in its tummy to look cool in the dark. With a memory for up to 48 commands, users can define sequences from two seconds up to an hour in length. It also comes with a one-minute demo-mode, highlighting COMPUROBOT’s features.

F.R.E.D. by Androbot (1983), San Jose, CA. “F.R.E.D. (Friendly Robotic Educational Device), [is] a small-sized robot targeted for the 6 to 14 age group. The robot is compact and sturdy. When placed on a tabletop or other flat surface, F.R.E.D. can be programmed to perform any series of movements without tipping off, since its mechanical sensors automatically tell it to avoid dangerous edges. Place a sheet of paper or white poster board under F.R.E.D. and, using its drawing-pen attachment, this Androbot can execute precise renditions of complex geometric shapes designed on the computer screen. Packaged with F.R.E.D. will be a mini AndroWagon, enabling him to transport small items from room to room. Planned options, including an accessory arm, will provide F.R.E.D. with additional abilities and function. F.R.E.D.’s design allows for expansion via future software, such as a voice synthesizer for speech programmable by the user.”
