A little bit about the noodle stand from 4-2 Gyakuten Saiban

Are there any palindromes in the names and titles in the Japanese version, what was the original meaning of the creators and what was lost during localization.

First, let's get acquainted with the owner of the noodle stand. His Japanese name is:

矢田吹麦面 (Yatabuki Mugitsura)

The two kanji of his given name (麦面) can be combined into the single kanji "men" (麺), meaning "noodle".

麦 (mugi; baku) - barley, wheat

面 (men; ben; omo; omote; tsura) - mask, face, features, surface

The reading is exactly like this because it is indicated in the dialog box. (ムギツラ - mugi + tsura)

The name of his stand, “やたぶき屋”, (Yatabuki-ya, lit. Yatabuki’s Shop) or written as "やたぶきや" on the front side of the Noodle Stand, is the reverse of "やきぶたや" (yakibuta-ya, lit. roast pork shop), as written on the backside.

The character's name was adapted as "Guy", although there is not even a hint of this in his name. Well, probably because one of the kanji readings was similar or what?

There are no questions about "Eldoon", it takes place because of the original name.

The sign has the inscription みそ (miso)

『みそラーメン』って書くつもりが、 スペースが足りなくなっちまった。

Next to "utterly changed" it should really also say "(derogatory)" as the implication is the bad kind of 'changed'. I tried to convey this by putting utterly in there as it is a more negative qualifier. Personally I think it's kind of hard to tell if the speaker is talking about himself the whole time, or half himself and half, say, a nasty ex girlfriend or something. There is definitely a feeling in the second part of talking 'to' someone, but you can just as easily talk to yourself as you could someone else! Imai wrote this one so I think it could go either way. Stay tuned to the version number at the bottom of this post for me to possibly change my mind later lol.

I've seen some lyrics for this song posted online with added english lyrics at the end. That isn't present in the Hurry Up Mode cd that was published in 1990. A goal of mine is to get ahold of the To-Search EP someday, but at the very least a review of the Hurry Up Mode 1990 cd (the first time this album was published in cd format- before then it was only vinyl) in a contemporary Japanese music magazine said that it was the same as the vinyl, just basically mixed a bit better for stereo/headphones. Something I really want to do with this page is post every print of the lyrics for a song exactly in case of a situation like this. Even so, even when listening to this track from Hurry Up Mode those supposed english end lyrics are not in the song. As B-T has not posted the original To-Search EP to spotify (they may not be legally able to), it's hard to tell if the version there and the version on Hurry Up Mode are different. I'll see if I can't find it somehow.

edit: Found it! Here's a spin of the OG original version of this song from 1986's 'To-Search' EP. It is a different, older recording of this song than from Hurry Up Mode (ie the version on spotify etc) and has two extra lines of chorus- but still no english ending! The mystery continues...

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE VOLUME?

CONTINUING FROM PREVIOUS VOLUME

U.S.J. ARC (Chap 12-21): Shōto, along with Bakugō and Kirishima, reaches where All Might is and help him fight the Nomu and Kurogiri, Shōto partially freezing the Nomu with a control of his ice (he managed to freeze the Nomu but didn’t freeze All Might despite the latter being close) that positively impress All Might.

Shōto informs the Villains they can't kill the symbol of peace.

'Heiwa no shōchō wa teme~eragotoki ni yarenē yo’ 「平和の象徴はてめェら如きに殺れねえよ」 “You can't kill the symbol of peace like that.…!”

All Might however tells them to keep out of the fight. Shōto though, points out how things would have been troublesome without his help and All Might agrees...

`…… Sakki no wa ore ga SUPPORT hairanakerya yabakatta deshou 「……さっきのは俺がサポート入らなけりゃやばかったでしょう」 “…It would have been bad if I hadn’t been there to support you.”

...but then beats up the Nomu, impressing Shōto, who agrees they’re not at ready for the level All Might is fighting at and suggest they’ll go help others. As the other teachers reach the place Shigaraki and Kurogiri leaves. The police witness that Shōto is among the unharmed kids and Shōto discover Hagakure was in his same area so, when he used his ice, he could have frozen her.

U.A. SPORT FESTIVAL ARC (Chap 22-44): The day after classes are cancelled. The day after it, Aizawa is back at school and informs Shōto’s class they’ve to prepare for U.A sport festival. At lunch Shōto overhear Īda and Uraraka saying All Might called Midoriya and Īda pointing out how Midoriya has similar super strength to All Might while Uraraka suggests All Might could have taken a liking to him.

Two weeks after, just before the start of the sport festival, Shōto approaches Midoriya pointing out how he’s stronger and more capable than him. Then he claims All Might got his eyes on Midoriya so he’s going to beat him.

I didn’t transcribe the whole dialogue but Shōto’s way to talk contrast with Midoriya, who’s much more polite.

For start Midoriya refers to him as ‘Todoroki-kun’ where Shōto goes just for ‘Midoriya’.

Even if we don’t see it here, to say “I” Shōto uses ‘ore’ (おれ/俺), the tough, masculine, kind of rude way to say “I”, while Midoriya uses ‘boku’ (ぼく/僕), which is more humble, and to say “you” Shōto uses ‘omae’ (おまえ/お前) which either expresses the speaker's higher status, or a very casual relationship among peers where Midoriya goes for ‘kimi’ (きみ/君) which is the polite way to say you.

So Shōto is less polite than Midoriya and his words are clearly not nice, however he’s not super rude either. This will change later so I thought to point it out here.

Kaminari is impressed by how ‘the strongest of the class’ (aka Shōto) made a declaration of war to Midoriya and when Kirishima tells Shōto he shouldn’t pick a fight now, Shōto replies it’s okay since they aren’t pretending to be friends, here.

`Ō ! ? CLASS saikyō ga sensen fukoku!!?’ 「おお！？クラス最強が宣戦布告！！？」 “Oh!? The strongest in the class declares war!!?”

(1) 'KENKAkoshi' (ケンカ腰/喧嘩腰) means "attitude that is ready to start a fight" but it's formed by 'kenka' which means "fight" (and is written in katakana for emphasis) and 'goshi/koshi' which means "hips/loins/lower back" so I guess the idea is that one is posed for a fight.

Midoriya agrees Shōto is stronger but claims he won’t fall behind.

The first event at the sport festival at which Shōto takes place is the "Obstacle Course Race" (障害物競争 'Shōgai Butsu Kyōsō'). Shōto freezes the legs of the one next and ahead of him and becomes the "leader" (先頭 'Sentō'). He then faces the robots which were used during the entrance exam, freezing them so that they won’t be able to move and he’ll manage to get through… but he froze them in such an unstable position they’ll fall on whoever else will try to pass. Shōto still comments he wished U.A. had prepared something better as his "shitty old man" (クソ親父 'KUSO Oyaji'), aka Todoroki Enji, is watching.

Shōto, keeping the lead, then easily passes the second barrier, tailed by Bakugō, whom he notices is all fired up and wonders if Bakugō is a slow starter. Meanwhile the public is impressed by Shōto due to his Quirk and to how he’s athletic and perceptive. When they realize he’s the son of Hero Number Two, Endeavor (aka Enji) they find normal he’s so strong and assume the Pro will fight to have him as their sidekick.

Once Shōto reaches the minefield he understands it’s an obstacle made to put in disadvantage who’s leading. At the same time Bakugō reaches him, claiming he made his war declaration to the wrong guy, surpassing Shōto. The two fight for first place when Midoriya surpasses them. In order to get first place again, Shōto makes an ice path, aware it’ll help the others too, suspending his battle with Bakugō so that they both can chase after Midoriya who however manages to keep the lead and get first place in the race while Shōto is second.

Next up is the "Cavalry battle" (騎馬戦 'Kibasen'). MORE ABOUT THIS ARC IN THE NEXT VOLUME

All in all Shōto keeps on being fleshed out more and more, so that we get how an awesome aspiring Hero he is in terms of abilities and in terms of Quirk power but also of ability to judge situations… but we also view also how cold and competitive he can be, as well as how he is aware of his own abilities. Plus we are introduced to how he’s the son of Number Two, Endeavor, but also it’s hinted how it doesn’t seem there’s good blood between him and his father.

Mata, M nya Mancing Mania Mantap!

Memasuki waktu indonesia bagian malam, sepi ditemani gerimis, dan nyamuk yang lagi maksa ambil darah di tangan kanan. Ngomong2 ambil darah, kalo nih nyamuk bisa diajak kerja sama buat anter ke lab pk asik kali yak.

Yak, sepi gerimis, ditengah kocar kacirnya mata yang aduhai berkesan, agak memberi space untuk ambil nafas menulis tumblr. Dimulai dari, udah masuk aja buat pre op, padahal masih H-1 official masuk stase. Habis lari 15 km, baru aja rebahan, tiba tiba hape getar 'ayo pre op', rasanya udah kayak squidword baru mo tidur, tiba tiba buka mata gara gara denger spongebob sama petrik berisik di luar.

Hari official pertama, langsung pecah rekor pasbar poli, 8 orang, tanpa adanya patokan diagnosis mau diarahin kemana, penting asal tanya keluhan umum aja dah sama Riwayat Penyakit Sekarang 10 poin khas di mata dan RP Dahulu secukupnya. 7 sacred? inget sih, cuma kadang ga nemu bahasa yang pas sesuai konteks malah bikin pasiennya 'eh gimana dok?'. Anamnesis, foto 6 posisi, sok ngecek lapang pandang, sama gerak bola mata, dan arahin masuk ruang cek visus dan tekanan bola mata.

Hari kedua, first time, kukira ini jadwal IBS ternyata jadwal photoshoot grup wa besar koas mata yang isinya mungkin dari koas mata paling baru sampe koas mata yang bisa jadi udah residen mata di univ lain, sekaligus jadwal cerita inspiratif, karena menginspirasi segenap teman sejawat lain, agar membordir, atau setidaknya menempelkan namanya masing masing di baju scrub ok nya. Nggih sami sami.

Hari ketiga RS UNS, latihan banting setir dan turn plan A ke B at the time, walau sebenarnya gaada plan B, poli dr Heru. Awalnya udah ngerasa gak enak pas manggil pasien, 'panggilan kepada Bapak Her.. (kok namanya kayak mirip yak) ...u pras (eh sek kok gaenak yo, tp iki pasien og, paling ga sengaja, sama wajarla. Sek coba lanjut dalam hati, 'etyono... Sp... M?!')

Keempat, di tengah hari sabtu yang tenang, setelah dipastikan aman hingga waktu menunjukkan pukul 4 kurang, saat hendak berlari dan benar benar udah tinggal pake sepatu dan tet, tiba tiba 'ada yang udah ke igd?' assalaamu'alaikum pasbar! Mau berangkat kok ya ga ngerti kudu ngapaun karena baru pertama kali, mau lanjut bodo amat lari, yaa, kok malah lari2 si leh? ga tanggung jawab ta?

Sampe sana udah ada Febri, anam dan Pemfis kelar, lanjut input data sama bikin ppt buat laporan, eh belum kelar 'ada pasien IGD baru lagi' alhamdu? lillah. Sampe sekitar isya an, udah bikin laporan, isi soap, dapet advis, dah aman lah poko e, bismillah lapar, balik mampir beli penyetan JESE dulu sama Febri, aku beli pancong balap, tapi tiba tiba lagi 'dek ini fotonya gimana, apa ada lesi meninggi, lesi satelit' dor, bener kata aldi taher, semua yang ada di igd, eh di dunia, pasti bingung, tinggalkan ayam dan pancongmu, angkat motor dan sentermu ke igd bersamaku

Balik IGD ngurus lagi pasbarnya. Kelar agak sekitaran jam 8-9 lahya, saat sudah izin pamit dokter igd dan menjemput ayam yang sudah penyet serta pancong yang udah mulai lelah balapan, tiba tiba 'dek pasien baru lagi' subhanallah kalo bukan karena Febri yang baik hati dan saya yang terpaksa mau gamau mah, cuma mba maryam yang ke igd. Prosedur sama. Tinggal ayam dan pancongmu mari menyapa pasbar bersamaku. Balik lagi dan baru beneran pulang hampir jam 11, aaaahh mantap!

Itu baru sepekan, pekan kedua lebih baik? alhamdulillah, hari senin 5 pasbar, hari selasa 4 pasbar, hari rabu kocar kacir pre op, hari kamis ga kerasa kocar kacir, tapi kocar kacir juga ternyata, hari Jumat? mari kita liat habis ini wkwk semoga baik baik saja dan tidak sampai menormalisasi misuh kayak pas ngurus diksar wkwk. Tapi insyaa allah engga si harusnya, karena udah mulai ngerti gimana.

Kesimpulannya sejauh ini di mata, sangat berkesan, dan lebih banyak belajar prosedur manajemen pasien di Moewardi nya daripada belajar penyakit di mata nya wkwk. Masih ada 2 pekan, masih ada yang perlu diperbaiki di depan.
