She has NEVER BEEN to this particular courtyard with its twists and turns and fine landscape, the stone mountain and the twisting little stream. Her father did mingle with his peers in times of peace - but she was too young to travel much, then. As a young duchess, she had only ever made voyages that were ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY - summons to court, and the such.

Still - a strange wave of FAMILIARITY comes over her. The stone path that leads to the correct rooms seems to be - WALKED BEFORE. A cool breeze that seems out of place in spring, the scent of MIST in the air. Something about it is familiar, even if she can't quite put her finger on what. Her feet take her where she's meant to go, it seems.

A curt KNOCK - and then she is opening the door with more rustle and noise than is perhaps necessary, shifting her bag to the other arm. " - Feng gongzi." Pokes her head into the room, a grin already curled at lips. "I brought some medicine for you. It doesn't taste bad, I promise - " Invites herself in with short, energetic stps and sits herself down opposite him, putting down her bag on the table. "I added three whole spoons of sugar." Lifts her fingers, as if to tell him the amount, and then unwraps her package, setting up her little medicine stove with EASE. "I just have to heat it up a little. So we have to sit here for a while. I could take your pulse in the meantime."

Large dark eyes are sparkling with unbridled and unconcealed hope as she leans closer over the steaming stove. "You WILL let me help you, won't you?" Officious, and with the tone she frequently hears her grandfather take, despite it being uncharacteristic to HERSELF, Tang Tang announces, "It's no good to give up now."

FORNiX - the villainess?

O grupo FORNAX é conhecido pelo seu esquema de diversas units com conceitos diferentes. Desta vez, fomos apresentados ao FORNiX. O termo "fórnix" está relacionado a uma parte do cérebro responsável pela criação de memórias a longo prazo e uma coisa que este álbum conseguiu, definitivamente, foi ficar em nossa memória. Em seu primeiro álbum completo, chamado "the villainess?", ou "a vilã?", a unit FORNiX nos deixa intrigados - a interrogação chama a atenção pois coloca este termo como um questionamento e gera uma curiosidade no ouvinte que é importante para o rumo que o álbum vai tomar.

O projeto possui 9 faixas que poderiam facilmente ser divididas em 2 mini-álbuns diferentes, visto que na metade do disco há uma mudança de sonoridade e conceito para quase o oposto, inevitavelmente provocando uma confusão. Vamos destrinchar mais sobre isso a seguir.

As cinco primeiras músicas (mmory, t4ke, a title track REborn, o cover de Poisoned do grupo RAVEN e a faixa dead man) são as melhores do projeto e evocam todo esse sentimento de vilania que o título do álbum nos promete. Tanto sonoramente quanto liricamente, o disco se mantém coeso, fluido e muito interessante, tudo parece se encaixar perfeitamente até esse momento.

A grande quebra de expectativa vem com o solo de Kami, a música "Keep On", que inclusive é a pior do projeto. A faixa traz um retro-pop colorido que se distancia do conceito dark que o grupo estava explorando tão bem anteriormente. Esta mudança de conceito se estende para finding me, stomach butterflies e ring ring a bell. Sendo assim, a excitação que havíamos criado até dead man é inteiramente dissolvida em músicas com melodias divertidas, letras felizes e até mesmo românticas (como é o caso de stomach butterflies). A segunda metade do álbum também é boa e contém a fantástica faixa finding me com a melhor letra de todo o material, mas o sentimento de estranheza pelo distanciamento com o conceito inicial é tão grande que pouco se consegue aproveitar da experiência de ouvir as quatro faixas finais, até porque passam tão rápido que logo quando percebemos, já chegamos ao seu final e o que restou foi uma pergunta pairando no ar: cadê a vilã?

Concluindo, "the villainess?" é um álbum bom, mas teria sido melhor ainda se tivesse acabado em "dead man" ou se fosse transformado em dois mini-álbuns diferentes, talvez até mesmo com conceitos opostos. Como mencionado no começo da crítica, o álbum certamente ficou em nossas memórias e é um dos mais prováveis e favoritos a ser indicado em álbum do ano no Mnet Asian Music Awards deste ano.

the way he held you against his body was disgusting—vulgar. he had your body pressed against his, your back to his chest. one of his arms was across your body, holding you in place as his hips roughly thrusted into yours.

your clothes were gone, thrown around the forest floor. his skins pressed into your skin as if he was trying to leave a permanent imprint on you. tears welled up in your eyes, but his movements never faulted. his grip tightened, like the fact that you were crying made this better.

he lowly groaned in your ear, his hips stuttering just a little bit. he moved his hand a little bit wrapping his large hand around your neck. he squeezed tightly and you claw at his hands and wrist. your tears fall faster as his grip tightened.

"n—no-!" you choked out, your vision growing blurry. part of you know that he doesn't care, but as your body feels heavier, all you do is claw at his hands.

he let out a low groan, tightening his grip even more. you fought to stay conscious, but slowly your hands lose the tension and tears sting the corners of your eyes. the last thing you feel is the almost rhythmic thrusts of hips falter a little bit.

Mais uma unit do FORNAX estreia, e mais um álbum completo é lançado. Contando com produções do Tokuto e do Caterpillar, e adicionando uma regravação de canção do RAVEN, o FORNiX estreia de um jeito surpreendente.

Com nove faixas, a unidade explora o Electropop ao máximo. “mmory” inicia o álbum com um grande pé esquerdo e inicia uma sequência de faixas boas durante o projeto. “REborn”, um dos dois singles, é incrível. Apesar de ter uma letra fraca, a faixa se mantém estável e com uma alta qualidade. Ao contrário de “missing you”, que tem uma letra incrível, e mesmo que soe fora do conceito dark, a faixa é a melhor do projeto. O deep house é um gênero que parece combinar com o FORNAX, independente de qual vertente seja.

No meio, nos deparamos com “dead man” e “keep on”, duas faixas que são de tirar o fôlego, seja por sua aura misteriosa ou pelas vibrações que elas trazem. A segunda citada é uma abordagem solo da integrante Kami, que fez um bom trabalho na canção com essa mistura do House e Pop.

E finalizamos então com “ring ring a bell”, a primeira canção lançada pela unidade em 2025. É uma das melhores do grupo, e é uma grande pena ter sido esquecida e largada de qualquer jeito.

the villainess? se consagra como o melhor projeto do FORNAX – seja levado em consideração as unidades ou o grupo –. As nove faixas são incríveis, que transmitem esse Pop com pegadas obscuras e bem produzidas. Só há alguns deslizes com as faixas, como a composição sendo, infelizmente, rasa em algumas faixas e o fato de algumas faixas destoam da energia caótica. É uma grande surpresa, pois o grupo parecia tentar atirar para qualquer lado para se consagrar, mas com esse álbum, conseguiram caminhar um pouco adiante para a sua redenção.
