Why does all pony fiction HAVE to do with mlp? I don't WANT to read about the mane 6 x each other or AJ x reader. I want to read about a pony and a dragon meeting (mlp or not) and how that could work. I want to read an x reader where the reader is a pony but the other characters are ponies, furries, whatever.

How does being a quadruped effect dating a biped? How does being a quadruped effect bipeds (especially since we're more often nude)? How does pegasus A meet unicorn B? How does earth pony C get into the mix? GIVE ME SPICE, GIVE ME FLAVOR, PLEASEEEEE

lovingly still drawing mlp redesigns in the year of our lord 2024 these are kind of for a very casual next gen au of mine, but honestly i just like imagining ponies in different ways :-) (more info + headcanons under the cut!)

fluttershy: - trans (she/her), sapphic, autistic - she's a deerpony mix, with her maternal grandmother being a deer and her maternal grandfather a pegasus. - has sensory issues with cutting her hair, so she's content to just let it be long. - has large wings, but not a lot of strength. she's better at gliding, and can't really get herself into the air very well. - tallest of the mane six. twilight: - nonbinary (they/she), bisexual, autistic - all ponies have magic in them that can give their bodies physical changes, with twilight being an extreme example. the star patterns on her chest appeared after wielding the elements of harmony for the first time, the stars on her hooves appeared after becoming an alicorn, and the yellow streak in her hair appeared after defeating tirek. - has fairly bad eyesight, but prefers using her glasses rather than using magic to fix her vision. - can't fly as fast as most pegasi, but has good endurance. - shortest of the mane six, although she's only barely shorter than rainbow. pinkie pie: - gnc (any pronouns, but loves being called sister), pansexual - her full name is rose quartz pie, in line with the rock and gemstone theme in her family, but pinkie was a nickname that just stuck. - chiffon swirl/mrs. cake is her maternal aunt, they have more in common than pinkie does with her mom, but pinkie loves them both equally. - her strength nearly rivals applejack, she has super strong legs from bouncing and jumping everywhere. applejack: - bigender (he/she), sapphic - inherited her father's hat and her mother's hairbands - all of the apple siblings have accessories left to them by their parents. - prefers going by AJ or jackie, only granny smith usually calls her by her full name. - ties up her hair when working, and keeps the fetlocks on her back hooves trimmed short.

rainbow dash: - nonbinary (he/she/they), queer, ADHD - like twilight, rainbow has extreme examples of her body changing with magic. her cutie mark got longer after performing each sonic rainboom, and the colors in her hair appeared after she got her cutie mark to begin with. - originally named bluejay dash, changed her name to match her new look. her parents still call her "jay" from time to time. - never quite shook the rainbow crash nickname, she's a great flier but not so great at landings. has a fair share of scrapes and bruises, but they dont bother her. rarity: - cis (she/her), omnisexual - part crystal pony on her dad's side, her mane and coat have a slight crystaline look to them in the right light. - changes her hairstyle a lot, but has it tied up when working in her studio. - crafts beautiful jewelry, in addition to her clothes and accessories.

Every single MLP character to have a toy. If a pony has the exact same name as another i combined them to shorten the list.

Unsuprising G1 has the most amout of ponies.

I kinda gave up on some of the nonponies this is afterall more of a refrence of release and names and cutie marks. I will redesign them based on what role im gonna give them.

also did not include any of the crossover ponies from g4. only two because their not based on character but physical games. twister and Litebrite

Also none of the Mane 6 parents have a toy release and i am not counting the cardgame.

Went almost two months without doing art, and listening to my choir director’s 5 year daughter talk about her My Little Pony toys got the spark going for a bit. Then again I was a gen 1 and gen 4 fan. We’ll see how far this goes. Maybe I’ll make a custom coloring book for her.

Anyway to the art.

Now to explain the names. Well not the pony’s names but the species.

I always thought that calling the regular ones earth ponies was unimaginative and even a little disrespectful. So I changed the design to make them the biggest, gave them gem hooves, rock and earth powers, and Named them Claysdales.

Yeah same situation with Bat ponies. But the name was harder. Can’t call them thestrals cause I am pretty sure that is copyrighted. I was stumped until I put two random bits of information together. 1 Pegasus was originally the name of one individual winged horse and became a species name over time. 2 cavalum is the name of a bat winged horse in Portuguese mythology. If it worked once it works here. So now I named my batty ponies of the night Cavalum, and gave them sonar, night vision, the ability to control shadows and even travel through them, and dream walking.

Pegasi don’t change too much other then the mane and tail now being made of feathers. They of course walk on clouds and have wind and air magic and are very fast.

Unicorns I changed to be smaller and slimmer, almost deer like compared with the other pony species. And gave them the classic lion or ox tail seen in medieval art. Males will have a beard. Their powers include levitation, teleportation, and general magic which lets them mimic other creatures powers but at a lower strength level. Basically if it isn’t the first two they are a Jack of all trades and master of none.

The Chitiny…. Ok they are a mix of the flutter ponies in gen 1 and the changelings in gen 4 design wise, But still really different in the lore I am developing. The name comes from the words Chitin (what bug exoskeletons are made of) and Tiny, cause they are the smallest type of pony, standing at about a foot tall (fyi the claysdales range about five to six feet tall at the shoulder…. Yes I’m American). The antennas let them communicate with other Chitiny and people they have built a bond with telepathically. They can lift several times their weight (like ants and bees) they can make silk, honey, wax, royal jelly, and a sticky slime. Of and cling/crawl on walls. Yes they live in hives. Rosy Maple is from the Lepidop hive ruled by queen Luna and king Atlas.

Zebras I never understood why they weren’t used more in MLP. Anyway I wanted to give them a wild nature theme and am giving them powers to make plants grow faster and even move, and if you don’t think that is impressive let me just point out when the trees woke up in Narnia Prince Caspian. I will never get the image of tree roots dragging that one guy underground out of my head. Oh they can also understand animals.

Ooops quick edit. This isn’t all the pony species I thought up but was what I had time to draw. We still have the Kirin, the Kelpies, the alicorns and one I made up called the Najor. And about 11 other non-pony species that make up this world’s inhabitants. So there will be updates.

I don't think this has any actual direct implications for IDW Sonic, but something I noticed is that the IDW Gen 5 ongoing ended last year? Like they're still making Gen 5 comics, but it looks like they've pivoted to making a bunch of miniseries instead of having an ongoing.

I would say this is more of a sign of the general lack of enthusiasm for MLP G5 than a sign of how IDW is doing

They seem to be shifting the art style to match the 2D series on YouTube, since by all accounts that seems to be more popular with kids than the actual main show on Netflix, so the clean break from the old ongoing may partially be to account for that. As for the move to a string of miniseries, I have to assume they just wanna sell kids the TPBs of those miniseries as standalone graphic novels, hoping that the MLP-liking kids who weren't following the ongoing might still wanna pick up a random MLP graphic novel at their school book fair or whatever

By comparison the ongoing seemed to be aimed more at a mix of kids and older fans, jumping straight into an arc about finding Discord in the ruins of Canterlot and learning more about what's happened in the time between generations and watching him be sad that Fluttershy is dead. I have to assume adult fans didn't stick with it very far past that initial arc, if they even bought those - which is a problem for an ongoing, because kids ain't buying floppy comics in 2024. So if that's the case, trying out something different that might be more appealing to kids makes sense

This is my armchair analysis as someone who isn't even reading any of these comics, anyway

This is Cupcake, her parents are Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash. She’s a young teen and currently Going Through It bc she keeps having horrific nightmares caused by that freaky ghost thing that caused Nightmare Moon to happen.

These two are Knifetrick and Quickhoof, Trixie and Starlight’s daughters. Knifetrick is carrying on momma’s business of being a magician, and Quickhoof…. Well, Quickhoof is a master of disguise who infiltrates wealthy social groups so she can dramatically rob them.

Their mothers love them equally. (Even if they keep trying to convince Quickhoof to come to the School of Friendship for a “quick visit” that is very clearly a front to force her into a redemption arc.)

This one is going to take some explaining. Ok so you know how Stygian was in Limbo as the Pony of Shadows, and Tirek was in Tartarus? Well in my au, those dimensions are one and the same and the two of them had a… interesting relationship while in that shared space.

After Stygian was reformed, he was sad to discover his… “dear friend”… was still in Tartarus. He plead his case to give Tirek a shot at redemption.

After several years of trial and error, Tirek did, eventually, reform to a point where he was able to reenter society with his husband, and proceed to have FOUR children together, each a mix of pony and centaur.

(How? Magic🪄✨)

And now for the guys that aren’t canon to my au! (Yet)

Each of these are a batch of hypothetical children!

The first are Twilight x Fluttershy kids! Prince Quizlet, Doctor Steadyhoof, Princess Elect Wallflower, and little Princess Bunnyhop.

Quizlet inherited all of his parents’ neuroticism. He constantly worries about literally everything, but he’s also deeply curious. His special talent is research.

Steadyhoof is a world-renowned surgeon who prides herself on her skill and… you guessed it, steady hoof. She doesn’t like attention unless she feels she’s earned it, and those shins the Princess title. She looks mean, but i promise she just has RBF.

Wallflower has a lot of the same anxieties as Quizlet, but has to keep them on the down-low. As Twilight’s chosen successor, she feels obliged to be the Normal One that everyone else can rely on. She’s calm under pressure, because pressure is all she’s ever known.

And Bunnyhop is literally just a baby.

These three are Rainbow Dash x Rarity kids

Spectra Sash takes after Rarity’s sense of style and personality (being based on g3 Rainbow Dash), and is a pseudo-earthpony (unicorn and pegasus genes cancelled each other out, leaving her with cloudwalking and limited magical senses)

Starchaser is a unicorn who wants to be a Pegasus so, so bad. So badly that her hopeful-engineering-based cutiemark has gradually overtaken her entire body due to excess magic)

Aether is an exhausted older brother who helped raise his sisters. He holds a respectable position at the weather factory. He’s deeply competitive when you get to know him.

And finally, the Fluttershy x Rainbow Dash kids

Cacus is a weather worker and a bit of a hothead. If you think you can outdo her, think again or prepare for trouble. She doesn’t take losing well.

Sparkleworks is a late bloomer and teen blankflank. Even though his talents are easily recognized, he isn’t quite ready to embrace any one of them. He jumps from project to project whenever he feels called to it.

Open Skies is a yoga instructor who buys into a bunch of weird spiritual practices vaguely based off non-equestrian religions.

Foxglove is an herbalist and witch doctor who is very autistic about plants. Her favorite bonding activity is infodumping.
