Enigma/The Riddler (Edward Nygma)

Intelligence and puzzle-solving are deeply valued among sphinxes, and those who fall short of their standards are often ridiculed and cast out. Among some (prejudiced) Sphinxes, other sapient, non-Sphinx species such as ponies are looked down-upon or seen as fundamentally inferior for not putting as much stock in puzzles and the like as sphinxes do.

Enigma, though considered a prodigy for his remarkable intelligence and skill with puzzles even among his fellow Sphinxes, was ostracized when a pony unfamiliar with Sphinx culture (a younger Sundown traveling Equestria for his training), humiliated Enigma by unraveling a puzzle of his that was meant to be judged as his final submission in a prestigious event, permanently staining his reputation and wounding his massive ego.

After years of quiet ridicule from his peers and his own growing obsession over the event, Enigma eventually snapped and fled to Gotham for revenge. His contempt has since spread far beyond that of the original pony he wished to prove his superiority over, and he now makes all of Gotham the target of his obsessive schemes, constantly trying to prove his superiority and feed his ego by putting ponies through his elaborate puzzles and riddle-based traps. He sees Batpony’s skill and determination in foiling him as both an inherent challenge to and a slight against his own abilities, reminding him far too much of that original pony from so long ago. 

Other notes:

-Apparently sphinxes in MLP have pony heads instead of human heads which makes sense I guess but it threw me through such a loop man.

-Whilst traversing the wiki I ended up with the same problem I had with chimeras in the first post where only one ever shows up in the series and there's no other info on them. So I made stuff up again.

- I imagine Sphinxes live a very long time, so the event Enigma was embarrassed at would probably take a long time to roll around again and he'd be forced to stew with his anger and wounded ego for far too long. I'm not sure what the puzzle was exactly or how Sundown dismantled it, but I imagine he did something extremely simple that a Sphinx would never have thought of (a la that software engineering joke), making it feel far more unfair and humiliating than if he'd solved in the intended way.

-His naturally crooked tail settles into the shape of a question mark, and the pattern on his arm is meant to look like a stylized question mark wrapping around his forearm (the "dot" is the white of his paw).

2. Miss Friday (Miss Tuesday)

Enigma’s teenaged assistant, Miss Friday seems to be the only pony the sphinx enjoys (or perhaps simply tolerates) the company of. Beyond her having met Enigma in Tartarus during their simultaneous imprisonments, the exact origins of her relationship to and exceptional status with her boss are a bit of a riddle in of themselves. Regardless, the two seem to have something of a mutual understanding, and Miss Friday’s mental prowess and dubious moral code are more than a match for Enigma’s own.

Other Notes:

-Yes this is a "The horse's name was Friday" joke. I'm sorry it was just too good to pass up.

-Miss Tuesday already sounded like a MLP name, but the horse named Friday thing was just too perfect for somebody who works under a guy who's whole thing is riddles. Also I relistened to the BTAA episode where she's introduced while coloring her and I noticed they reference His Girl Friday several times, so fun coincidence?

-The candy-striped leg patterns are based on her canon costume's striped pants & are meant to mirror the Riddler's wrapped leg pattern. The dark patterns on her face are supposed to be reminiscent of eye bags.

3. Mania (Bat-Mite)

Bat-Pony’s self-proclaimed biggest fan, Mania is a Draconequus embodying the spirit of obsession. Normally he watches the hero from his own dimension, but at times he tries to insert himself into the narrative or help Sundown fight, both to varying degrees of success. Though he genuinely adores Bat-Pony, Mania is usually more of a hindrance than a help, and can even be directly antagonistic at times when his obsession goes too far. 

Other notes:

-Similar issue to Chimeras and Sphinxes, only two Draconequuses (Draconequui?) show up in the series, one being Discord (embodying chaos), the other being a comics-only villain known as Cosmos (embodying malice), but honestly what little we're given worked super well for the character anyway. Discord seems to come from his own unique plane of existence/dimension and Cosmos has similarly strange origins; both have penchants for causing mischief with incredible reality-warping powers; and both embody non-physical concepts. Bat-Mite being a reality warping 5th dimensional creature obsessed with Batman was surprisingly easy to adapt.

-He has the head of a pony, a ferret-like body, two front rat paws, mite antennae, an insectoid wing, a bat wing, a pigeon foot, a chevrotain (mouse deer) foot, and a monkey tail. I tried to have him mostly made up of animals that were very small, seen as mischievous, and/or seen as pests.

4. Poison Ivy (Pamela Isley)

Said to be more plant than pony, Poison Ivy is the self-proclaimed princess of the Green. Though once a regular Earth pony, she began to spiral after receiving her cutie mark and fully coming into her powerful natural attunement to plant life. Fleeing into the nearby forests on the outskirts of Gotham, she wasn’t seen again until many years later when Gotham’s city refurbishment and expansion efforts began to encroach on the forests borders, where she reemerged with strange new powerful magic and retaliated violently.

Though she isn’t recognized politically or physically as an alicorn, plants grow from the flesh of her body in the pattern of a horn and wings characteristic of those born into or bestowed with royalty, and the strange natural magic that accompanies them seems to almost rival that of a true alicorn’s.

Other notes:

-I dont really have anything to add to this one I just thought a false alicorn would be a cool concept.

-the whole alicorn royalty thing is very strange to think about isnt it? I feel like the ruling class having such insane amounts of physical and magical power probably has much more pressing ramifications than ever was, would, or should be addressed in a kids show but they are fun to think about.

-Her actual name is Poison Ivy, yes. It sounded like a pony name. I don't know what that says about her parents.

-The leaf wings are folded down in the graphic but I think they are flighted, or at the very least useful for gliding and expressing emotions.

5. Saltbrine (Oswald Cobblepot)

Short, stout, and flightless, Saltbrine’s moniker of “The Penguin” has its origins in the taunts of his peers from his youth. Though the title has persisted into the current day, it’s often spoken with far more fear and trepidation throughout the alleys and backstreets of Gotham than ridicule. Saltbrine owns two of Gothams most well-known businesses, one being the luxurious, high-class Iceberg Lounge…and the other being the organized crime syndicate the former acts as a front for.

Other notes:

-Again don't have much to add to this one. One of my favorite designs though, I love the giant beak face.

-The bird half is actually based on a puffin, because a penguin felt too on the nose for Oswald and too strange for a hippogriff (I couldn't get the wings or face to look right at all either). I feel like the title being an insult works a little better if he's not literally half-penguin.

-he's the same color my club penguin avatar used to be (RIP)

Kicks Horseshoes

I'm on a bit of a roll I think haha. Time for everyone's 'favorite' football (buckball?) star Mitch.

Notes:

-He has a buckball here, but I'm not sure if that's his main sport per se. He's probably just as good with hoofball (which I think is the MLP equivalent of football/soccer haha) or other similar pony sports. -His cutie mark is pretty simple. He kicks things.

-He still has that gay-ass earring of his, of course.

-I gave him markings that have a 'scorched' vibe.

Side note, I think I finally figured out where the knee belongs on these cartoon horses haha. Progress. Only Ayame and Kakeru left!

Though don't think I'll be done with this au after doing all their designs, ofc! I'd love to share some of the little moments I have in my head, and maybe some group dynamics as well if I have the spoons for it, at some point.

Kicks is a renowned athlete who quickly rose to fame. He's most known not for agility or strength (though he isn't lacking in those departments either) but his bucking. To the point he adopted a nickname given to him by his fans referencing it.

Unfortunately, Kicks' talents didn't come alongside him being a good team player, or even really a teammate in general, and making things worse, his pride became pretty inflated with all the attention he was getting.

After several years of top-tier games, his personality ended up pretty atrocious, and he ended up getting thrown from team to team, taking whichever offers suited him at the time. (And ignoring the fact that a lot of the team swapping was probably related to his inability to connect and cooperate with his compatriots...)

If that wasn't bad enough, he quietly gained a reputation for being a complete ass when it came to mares. Turns out, being famous wasn't enough to land a date, and eventually, the ladies started to avoid him like the plague. Embarrassed and selfish, he even tried to woo ponies in his professional sphere, which led to several conflicts, the worst of which occurred when he attempted to win the hoof of a maid working at a hotel he was staying in.

For most ponies, that kind of situation would cause one to reflect, but Kicks continued to forge ahead. Though his attempts to ingratiate himself with the mares stopped, Kicks never slowed down for a second, until the time came when he was forced to.

That moment came in the middle of a championship for his hometown. One of the last places Kicks still felt welcome. In a twist of fate that even Kicks still doesn't understand, he doomed their chances of winning completely by himself.

Even his fellow athletes couldn't figure Kick's abysmal performance out. It wasn't a bad day, or one or two poor decisions on the field. It was a disaster one could only see happening thanks to complete incompetence, or intentionally.

So, Kicks was leveled with a serious accusation, one that threatened to throw him off the stage he had known for so long. But he had nothing to prove he hadn't attempted to throw the match, and after burning so many bridges on and off the field, nopony came to his defense.

Saying Kicks was 'retired' wouldn't quite be accurate. But maybe, away from the spotlight, and finally forced to confront his own actions over the years, even a two-bit pony like him could change a little. Well. We can only hope, anyways.

Look, I know. A big backstory for this guy? I'm not sure how either, but I had a lot of thoughts, haha. It's kind of fun thinking about him being a disgraced athlete. (you can blame a certain fic for that I suppose haha) It's also interesting to navigate what to tone down when inserting this cast into Equestria... Kinjo and Mitch's backstories were certainly unique in that way. Making things a little more PG without removing the core? I guess.

This is Cupcake, her parents are Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash. She’s a young teen and currently Going Through It bc she keeps having horrific nightmares caused by that freaky ghost thing that caused Nightmare Moon to happen.

These two are Knifetrick and Quickhoof, Trixie and Starlight’s daughters. Knifetrick is carrying on momma’s business of being a magician, and Quickhoof…. Well, Quickhoof is a master of disguise who infiltrates wealthy social groups so she can dramatically rob them.

Their mothers love them equally. (Even if they keep trying to convince Quickhoof to come to the School of Friendship for a “quick visit” that is very clearly a front to force her into a redemption arc.)

This one is going to take some explaining. Ok so you know how Stygian was in Limbo as the Pony of Shadows, and Tirek was in Tartarus? Well in my au, those dimensions are one and the same and the two of them had a… interesting relationship while in that shared space.

After Stygian was reformed, he was sad to discover his… “dear friend”… was still in Tartarus. He plead his case to give Tirek a shot at redemption.

After several years of trial and error, Tirek did, eventually, reform to a point where he was able to reenter society with his husband, and proceed to have FOUR children together, each a mix of pony and centaur.

(How? Magic🪄✨)

And now for the guys that aren’t canon to my au! (Yet)

Each of these are a batch of hypothetical children!

The first are Twilight x Fluttershy kids! Prince Quizlet, Doctor Steadyhoof, Princess Elect Wallflower, and little Princess Bunnyhop.

Quizlet inherited all of his parents’ neuroticism. He constantly worries about literally everything, but he’s also deeply curious. His special talent is research.

Steadyhoof is a world-renowned surgeon who prides herself on her skill and… you guessed it, steady hoof. She doesn’t like attention unless she feels she’s earned it, and those shins the Princess title. She looks mean, but i promise she just has RBF.

Wallflower has a lot of the same anxieties as Quizlet, but has to keep them on the down-low. As Twilight’s chosen successor, she feels obliged to be the Normal One that everyone else can rely on. She’s calm under pressure, because pressure is all she’s ever known.

And Bunnyhop is literally just a baby.

These three are Rainbow Dash x Rarity kids

Spectra Sash takes after Rarity’s sense of style and personality (being based on g3 Rainbow Dash), and is a pseudo-earthpony (unicorn and pegasus genes cancelled each other out, leaving her with cloudwalking and limited magical senses)

Starchaser is a unicorn who wants to be a Pegasus so, so bad. So badly that her hopeful-engineering-based cutiemark has gradually overtaken her entire body due to excess magic)

Aether is an exhausted older brother who helped raise his sisters. He holds a respectable position at the weather factory. He’s deeply competitive when you get to know him.

And finally, the Fluttershy x Rainbow Dash kids

Cacus is a weather worker and a bit of a hothead. If you think you can outdo her, think again or prepare for trouble. She doesn’t take losing well.

Sparkleworks is a late bloomer and teen blankflank. Even though his talents are easily recognized, he isn’t quite ready to embrace any one of them. He jumps from project to project whenever he feels called to it.

Open Skies is a yoga instructor who buys into a bunch of weird spiritual practices vaguely based off non-equestrian religions.

Foxglove is an herbalist and witch doctor who is very autistic about plants. Her favorite bonding activity is infodumping.

I was looking through your Please Read post and am really interested about both the Love Apocalypse and Mysterious Forest Au’s.

Would the love apocalypse be in a more modern setting?

If it weren’t how do you think that would work in the world of One Piece? I had some idea forming but I feel like the execution would require some finagling. Would defiantly be harder to try and get away though if you’re stuck on a ship.

Oh now I’m wondering is it air born? Would it be in the water? Maybe some sort of weapon that the World Government was testing and it turned into this?

Also I know I said I was also interesting in the Mysterious Forest Au but that one feels a bit more self explanatory. No less fun though. I really love all the Au’s you come up with.

A lot of the concepts for my AU’s actually just come out of nowhere while I’m zoning out, and thinking about things that I enjoy. Like hell, Mystical Forest is a combination of the game Darkwood, Cinderella, and the part of me that’s a severe monster fucker

I don’t remember how I came up with Love Apocalypse though, I don’t even remember when I got that idea to be completely honest. Maybe it was from watching too many MLP Infection AU’s... But regardless, it’s a fun AU and I enjoy it!

Anywho I’m starting to ramble so allow me to start answering your questions, dear!

“Would Love Apocalypse be set in modern day?”

It could go either way in all honesty. It could be set in modern day, or it could be set in the normal One Piece world.

I do personally set it in modern day when I think about it a lot of the time, but there’s absolutely no reason why the scenario couldn’t be set in the normal One Piece world either.

So the answer is both depending on scenario.

“Is it airborne? Is it in the water?”

Typically when I do play with the concept, it’s kind of like a zombie virus sort of thing. One person gets it then kisses someone to spread it.

However I never really wondered how the virus spreads further if the love zombies typically stay in their own groups. So I guess it could be airborne, or in the water.

Maybe it’s like standing next to someone who has a fever though? Stay next to the infected person for too long or touch them too much, and it’ll cause you to get sick too.

Maybe it stays dormant for a while too so you don’t even realize that you’re spreading it until it’s too late, and you’ve already infected a good amount of people.

“What caused this?”

I’m pretty sure that you asked this question, and even if you didn’t, it’s probably still a good idea to answer it!

So I did do some thinking, and I did come to an idea of what might have caused this. Let’s take a patient zero, and let’s call them Heart. Heart likes to go exploring, and they explore anywhere that they can.

Heart goes somewhere that they’ve never gone before, and finds a mysterious plant that they’ve never seen before. The plant releases a pink almost glittery powder upon being touched, Heart breathes it in.

Smells good! Heart could uproot the plant, and take it home but even if he doesn’t then they still go home. Heart goes around his island for the next few days not realizing what they have, they hang out with people and do all this stuff which unknowing infects people.

Heart starts to develop symptoms after a week, and eventually becomes Patient Zero aka the first Love Zombie. Before this happened, all the people who were unknowingly infected have gone off island or interacted with others.

Boom! Worldwide Love Plague!

There also is another way though too, and I had an idea. It was that this little extinct race of bugs known as Love Bugs appear. Maybe they were revived via science, or maybe they were thought to be extinct.

Either way being bit by one turns you into a Love Zombie. Personally as much as I do like Love Bugs. Typically those concepts are more permanent for a story like “I have to get away from them, and find a cure before they give me a Love Bug to be bitten by!”

So the Love Apocalypse’s true cause is the plant scenario.

“How would the concept work in the One Piece world?”

Okay so I’ve never been good at answering questions like this. My sincerest of apologies, so I’ll try my best to do so. I’ll probably wind up messing it up though, so bear with me.

I feel like it would be pretty hard for people to avoid it no matter how it spreads, Marie Geoise has definitely been quarantined like no one is getting in unless it’s an absolute emergency. Anyone who leaves isn’t getting back in either.

And just like always, the world government is leaving the rest of the world to fend for themselves until a cure is found or something happens. The island where the plant was found is probably wiped off the face of the earth for good measure.

Of course that doesn’t stop anything, and a bunch of other islands are infected. Can’t destroy them all. So a lot of islands do go into lockdown too, or try to.

I feel like Egghead Island goes under pretty serious quarantine protocols, they do have a few Love Zombies to examine and take samples from. That way, there is hope for a way to fix this entirely.

Pirates and Marines would probably be the most affected by this in all honesty, they stay on ships a lot. If one person comes back to the ship infected then it’s gonna probably spread like wildfire. It’s probably the time when you’ll see very few Marine ships out on patrol, and traveling. Probably less pirates too.

Some islands might even become so afraid of the Love Apocalypse that they might start even trying to get rid of anyone that they suspect is infected. Lock em up, kill em, banish em. Anything just to ensure that it doesn’t spread.

Smaller islands or islands with very little population are probably the safest. Like you might not find a trace of it in a place like Syrup Village, or Foosha Village. Assuming no visitors come by, that is.

Skypiea remains entirely unaffected, and I don’t know about Fishman Island but something tells me that they’re alright. Same with Amazon Lily.

Once a cure is found and distributed, or something is found out about the love virus like it wears off after a week or something like that. That’s when the chaos finally dies down, it’s gonna take a while before things fully return to normal. With some places probably never returning to normal at all!

Despite being called love apocalypse though. Things never really get that apocalyptic funnily enough like the world isn’t gonna end, I just think Love Apocalypse sounds cooler than Love Virus or Love Plague.

Hazbin Hotel Episode 8 blind blogging.

spoilers and whatnot. Doing one of these at midnight again even though most of my morning is free

The training to fight the angels being showned through montage…i don’t know how to describe it. It would have been a good change to show how trust and depenence on each other for the hotel gang would have developed. As well as how they get along with the cannibals while also having a few of them convert to the hotel’s ideal.

Whatever but at least vox is on screen.

24hrs and they still don’t know if they’re prepared? Ugh. Cherri’s here, okay. She fells more like a cameo than a character but alright. The emotional speech fells unearned.

What good is she seeing them? The hotel gang just started to get along. The cannbals have had not change only battle training. In ep 6 it was implyed that angel was getting better, but he was just tired from working with Val for 16hrs. If cherri would have showed up on any other day and the interaction with Val wouldn’t have happened, he would have gone along with her.

The cherri / pen ship is painful to watch please stop

Heaven time. Really, Lute is the one that’s too much. Not adam, mr move the extermination date to every 6 months and miss pronouncing Vaggie’s name? Lute better not be Vaggie’s ex i swear.

Why does heaven have money!?!?

All the exorcists are women? With adam being what he is, that’s gross.

Wait they can shield themselves form the angels? Why bother recruiting fighters then? If alastor can shield the hotel and use the spears to kill the angels then the entire prev episode was pointless.

Neither adam or Lute knew that angel weopons can hurt angels, despite being the ones to sever Vaggie’s wings. Were the writers even trying. That’s something that should be caught in the first draft let alone the second and overall production wft.

My confidence in my own writing has skyrocketed.

Why are cherri’s bombs effecting the angels? How have they been altered to hurt them. This is not explained or shown by the bombs look any different than the previous ones.

How are Husker’s card hurting the angel’s? Have they been altered? This is the first time we’ve seen them so who knows.

Angels are dying. In the last episode charlie was shown to be bother by this, but all of a sudden she’s fine with it.

Liked the alastor v adam fight, no notes

Why did charlie even show up to the fight? She isn’t doing anything but shielding.

I’m ignoring the cherri/pen kiss cuz that was unearned, but why wouldn’t they give pen the war blimp beforehand? And really? The blimp and pen are gone just like that?

Razzle and dazzle are dragons, cool. Charlie cold have pulled this power out at any time and just didn’t. Why? They are at war. They should have started with that.

And one of them is dead now!?! What was the point of them at all? The second one just disappears. Also, charlie can fight, how? She knows nothing of hell, had rose colored glasses so opaque that she’s blind, but you’re telling me she can fight a guy how goes around killing hundreds once a year. Where did she learn? I doubt lucifer taught her considering their relationship is nearly nonexistent.

Lucifer v adam fight scene has the same seriousness the one in the first mlp movie. I mean that, watching it and see for yourself. Also, why are they an even match? adam is just a guy, the first one but still just a guy, he should be getting stomped by lucifer. Is he just that weak or is adam that strong, if so why?

No, the bloodshed could’ve been avoided if you 1) didn’t sign a paper you didn’t read. 2) went to heaven with a real plan instead of index cards with definitions. 3) Vaggie helped make a plan and 4) use the hell princess powers and dragons at the start of the fight instead of playing with that fucking shield that vanished anyway.

She did not change the town, she started a fight. Her hotel for redemption plan as not taken a single step forward.

Her story is just beginning? It’s the end of the season with only one more to come. Why are they talking up rebuilding the hotel, she has a bunch of money, just pay people to do it. Alastor magic-ed up most of it in the pilot, why can’t he do that again.

As much as I live the Vees, why are they here? Nothing concerning them has happened. They happy because the other overlords are thrown off by what happen, but did anything happen outside of the hotel? If it did, we weren't shown it.

Pen being in heaven hopefully means we get to see more of it, but like we didn’t get enough of him as a character. Or anyone for that matter. He died so suddenly that it felt more like a joke than a tragedy.

Ending thoughts for the entire season might come later, but like everything in this was rushed. The songs were lackluster. nothing felt earned, while the answers were handed to the the cast.

I don't have high hopes for season two or the story as a whole

OMG so this was just THE jay season

ughhdgaanksdka okay heres my htoughts

-I liked that both nya and jay kept their memories of the events. I also like that Jay got to make mistakes and improve from them. Like yeah, it's easy to see him as someone that could fall for nice-guy/incel type mentality, what with the whole 'guide to wooing woman thing'. it calls to mind his 'true-potential' episode, but delving into it a lot further. and it was really neat to see his characters insecurities come to light and watch him react to and learn from his mistakes. I really got the feeling that Jay was afraid of nadakhan. which made his evveuntual defeat more satisfying. I REALLY liked the scene where Nya pushed Jay through the portal. it not only felt like she was getting to take her power back but also Jay talking with his parents was a great scene. very nice story structure wise as well.

-speaking of great storytelling woagh SO many good scenes. one that comes to mind is Zane and Nadakhan's encounter with the chess. litterally fucking brilliant visual storytelling. it's simple but god does it work

-clancy was his name right? the pathetic snake guy? voice actor fucking slayed that role. anyway. dang I hope we somehow see him again.

-nadakhan was almost as good a villain as chen! a lot less of a fun viallin then chen was but that's more like a villain genre differnece. anyway. he clearly had a couple layers we didn't get to see, def has severe daddy issues. like Daddy Issues tm we're talkin. I'm also very curious to know what the truth about Dellora is. like, what with how he acted towards Nya (which my god wow I know he's a bad guy but damn this fuckers like, fucking horrible. disgusting even.) so I thought that he didn't actually care for Dellora at all but then why would he have a locket of her? and when Dellora was like revived(?) throguh Nya and Nadakhan was all like 'i can give you anything you want!' and Dellora said "i jsut want you'- idk, something about the line delivery... I just got the feeling that perhaps much like his daddy issues he may have had relationship issues as well. I think those small things made him more believable, like so he wasn't just this stand in figure for a bad guy. I think the main strength of ninjago villains in general is that there are both litterally powerful and threatening but also tend to be very manipulative, so they present an emotional challenge for the characters as well

-I REALLY loved Jay gathering his 'replacement ninja' allies. I really like rag-tag teams saving the day because the main heroes are unavailable ( haha you guys will never guess my favorite mlp 2 parter [sarcasm] )

-Gosh though. that ending. damn can't believe Nya and Jay just have to like- move on with life now? after being traumatized and shit?! excellant! can't wait to read angsty fanfiction about that later

This year was rough for me, and for many others as well from the looks of things. I didn't have as many larger works this year, but I've managed to scrounge together what I did make for a filled-out summary.

January - it's snowing again

A piece about feelings of uncertainty and caution entering 2024. It's bleak out there, but it snowed a few times at least. It was nice to look at, I guess that's something.

March - LPS EMPRESS

2024 was the year I got more into IIDX, and back into LPS collecting. As a result, these otherwise completely different interests ended overlaping a lot more than I thought lol.

This one's a spoof on the IIDX empress CS boxart, combined with two long-term dreamie LPS I got around that time.

April - A quiet afternoon Birthday

Prisma & her AU Monster Hunter Prisma were major comfort characters a few years back. While both versions taken a backseat recently, I wanted to make some form of nice picture for her birthday.

A zine based on my revived interest for LPS, highlighting a few 'named' pets in my collection. Some of them are older ones with sentimental value, and some were (relatively) recent additions to my collection.

July - The Uno Incident

Guys I don't think he's winning this round.

Uno brings up some funny memories from college for me. Notably one instance where I got drunk and got skipped at least 3 times during gameplay (and missing several times I could've played a card...). It became a running joke for the rest of that year.

Wasn't much from this month (or at least much that wasn't part of unfinished projects). I think this might've been the only one I posted. A warmup dump for a project I was working on at the time involving Shem.

October - Zinnia MLP Custom

With my revived interest in LPS came a revived interest in custom toys (though I'll likely keep this as a minor side-thing). This was an old MLP G4.5 base I prepped years ago, and made into a figure based off my LPS mascot.

I based it on how I draw her, though I think next time I do a project with sculpting I should think about how to make it more efficient (It took about 3 months to make between motivational dips...)

My contribution for Window to Worlds 2024! This year I gave the spotlight to Jpeg and Risa. In which Jpeg realises they haven't packed anything that isn't gaming related since they moved in, and Risa not being much help either.

A redraw of an older picture of Io with their updated design to celebrate my site's recent layout update.

I would argue the latter is my biggest project and proudest achievement of 2024, so I like to see this illustration as a stand-in for that as well.

I’ve seen a lot of discourse lately about the newer parts of this (and other) fandoms. Some of it is just calling out people for bad behavior, but some of it seems downright hostile to people just for being new, and that seems unfair to me. Anyone who is being a dick to others should ABSOLUTELY be dragged for that, whether they’ve been around for 6 months or 6 years. Common decency should be the baseline.

But we can’t control when we became aware of a fandom, or when a new world was opened up to us. And trying to lock people out, devalue their opinions, or refuse to engage with them at all simply because you were here first is just mean.

For example, I was obsessed with My Little Pony back when I watched The Glass Princess (1986) on VHS multiple times a day. But it’s been a long time since then, and while Friendship is Magic is not the same, I don’t begrudge anyone loving it and I don’t think I would be a more important fan or that my opinions would be more valid just because cause I loved it before a newer fan did, especially because I am (probably much) older than a lot of those fans. I only got there first because I was born first and my mom bought that tape. This isn’t exactly the same as some of you because I’m not into MLP any more, but my daughter’s starting to love it, and I’m not going to keep her from watching the new stuff just because it isn’t the old stuff.

I was only 5 when GO was published, so of course there are people who read it and fell in love with it before I did, because I was a child and didn’t know it existed. I didn’t know about a lot of things- I didn’t know anything about Star Wars, Star Trek, LOTR, etc. until college because my parents didn’t let me. I only learned about Rocky Horror, Eddie Izzard, RENT, Queer as Folk, etc. because of the people I met in Creative Writing and drama club in high school, because they had been given access to those things and shared them with me. Drag Race was several years old before someone introduced me to that.

I am relatively new to this fandom, even though I did read the book many years before the show came out. I didn’t even know there was going to be a show until suddenly there was, and I loved S1, but circumstances in my life kept me from becoming obsessed. I also had no idea S2 was coming until right before it came out, and by then I was in a place where the brain rot was able to take hold. I thought Tumblr was like Tindr until around then as well, and I had no idea AO3 even existed. No one else I known IRL knows what these things are either, except for what I’ve told them. I don’t think my participation in this fandom should be any less valid just because I didn’t have access to it before now.

I have dived into this fandom headfirst and unabashedly. I still don’t understand all of how Tumblr and AO3 work, but now that I’m here, I participate as much as I can (sometimes I don’t respond to those tagging posts because I haven’t figured it out yet). I post on Tumblr when I think I have something to say, and try to boost others who say things I think might enrich someone else’s life too. I devour fanfic on a daily basis, leaving kudos and comments and recommending anything I’ve liked to anyone who will listen because I want to support the amazing artists in this community and spread the happiness they’ve brought to me. I try to engage with anyone who engages with me, and I’d like to think I’ve been respectful to you all (but I know I can be blunt too, so if ever I am a twat waffle, feel free to drag my ass for that).

I guess my bottom line is, while I’ve mostly felt very safe, loved, and accepted jn this fandom, the anti-newbie discourse is disheartening. I will absolutely join you in blasting anyone who chooses to be an asshole, but I’m never going to support the unnecessary gatekeeping. I don’t think Aziraphale, Crowley, Michael, David, Terry, or Neil would either.

Thank you to all of you who have shown love and acceptance to me. I’ll strive to return it and pay it forward to every chance I get.

Worst Post-Timeskip Design Poll - Calling for Nominations

Recently I just finished a rewatch of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, so while discussing it, my friend @f1ddlyb1ts suggested that I run a poll on the worst post-timeskip designs of all time. I will try my best to make a list of at least 16, if not 32, widely hated post-timeskip designs.

If anyone has a blorbo who has been the victim of this, please send me a message/ask. I might ask for details on why the design is so bad compared to the character's pre-timeskip look. I am prioritizing designs that the fandom as a whole hates, rather than the ones I personally think are ugly. (There's a post-timeskip design for this one character that I hate with every fibre of my being. But I won't include it in this poll because I know most of the fandom doesn't actually have a problem with it.)

Edit: I'm getting a lot of suggestions from the One Piece fandom bc I guess a lot of you dislike a lot of different timeskip designs lol. For this and future fandoms, if there are several designs that I gauge to be equally hated by fans, I'm going with the one I personally think is the ugliest. I will keep it to one character per franchise to keep it balanced.

When I initially read the request asking for this to be covered (reminder - google form is on the pinned post!), I noticed something really interesting in the note the requestee attached. mlp racism anthem (comix zone arrange), as you may note by the initial acronym in the title, is a rip based on a joke from the My Little Pony franchise - and the requestee noted that the franchise had seen surprisingly little coverage on this blog despite being such a big part of the channel. And yeah: to my knowledge Determination is Magic is still the only directly MLP-related rip to be featured on the blog, with Field of Love and Cringe and SING A SONG ABOUT HOPES AND DREAMS as...edgecases, I guess. But it wasn't until I got this request that I started thinking...yeah, MLP HAS been a pretty big part of SiIvaGunner since its beginning, hasn't it?

Thing is, though, back in the early days of the channel, it always felt to me as if the MLP-posting was sort of...not meant to be taken seriously - to be taken as part of "cringe culture" rather than as actual appreciation of the show. The example that always sticks out to me is JoJo Wrap Up (My Little JoJo: Friendship is Manly), an early Season 2 rip that presents itself as a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure rip before bait-and-switching to a mashup of one of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic's many cheerful, peppy, "cringe" songs. Given that the time around 2016/early 2017 was effectively the very peak of cringe culture, you can imagine for yourself what the outcome was - it became the third-most disliked video on the entire channel, with comments filled with salt from fans of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure cursing the very idea of combining their favorite franchise with MLP. Combined with the fact that JoJo fans were already getting plenty messed with intentionally by the SiIva team back in the day, as I covered in Hen'yoku no Piraman, and you get a pretty prominent example of the typical way MLP was treated back in early SiIvaGunner. A popular, cringe and gay kids show, and therefor prime material for trolling and nothing more.

As the years went on, as the team matured (and those who failed to were kicked off), and as the internet landscape as a whole changed for the better - you got the sense that My Little Pony was gradually becoming more of a sincere household name on the channel. Sure, its presence wasn't all *too* much higher than it had been in the past, but the act of using the show for trolling or intentionally-bad rips had all but ceased entirely overtime - which is, of course, how we got excellent rips like Determination is Magic. More than that, though - we in the audience were slowly made to realize that the SiIvaGunner team had several people on it who were far bigger fans of the show than we'd ever been led to believe.

Because sure, ripping the Friendship is Magic intro theme, ripping Winter Wrap-Up, sampling the show's most memetic clips in YTPMVs - that's all well and good. But mlp racism anthem (comix zone arrange) is something else entirely - an arrangement of one of the SEVERAL songs featured in the My Little Pony: A New Generation movie, which released just *three days* prior to the rip itself. There's not a hint of irony in sight, no popular song that Danger, Danger seeks to "ruin", and it isn't even using a song that's particularly popular within the nostalgic part of MLP's fandom. Much like the rip 88811, one that remains an all-time favorite for me, mlp racism anthem (comix zone arrange) is nothing more but a killer Genesis arrangement of a fantastic song. Part of the appeal of Danger, Danger in the A New Generation movie to begin with is that, it's the sole hard-rocking track of its kind in a movie otherwise filled with pop and cheer (the "racism anthem" of the title is referring to how Danger, Danger is the movie's villain song). Which in turn makes it a perfect fit for the soundscape of Comix Zone - there's nothing the Genesis does quite so well as rendering the sound of shredding guitars, and KnightOfGames utilizes it to absolutely fantastic effect here.

I'll likely be covering a good few more rips using the My Little Pony franchise in the future, and I'm really glad this submission alone reminded me of just how prevalent the series really is on the channel nowadays. With those bitter, cynical years far behind us, SiIvaGunner is able to stand proud, with full sincerity, as a celebration of ALL parts of internet pop culture - the concept of "cringe" be damned!
