Everyone sees what they want to see. Marinette knows that better than everyone else around her. People see her and think great daughter, model class president, flawless hero, bully victim.

Marinette hadn’t realized she was acting until she felt the weight on her shoulders for real. But it was true. Everyday, she swallowed down her protests and became the person everyone wanted to see.

Who was she kidding? She hated being Caline’s model student! The class representative who had to tolerate Chloé and Lila, or face injustice.

She even had to forgive Chloé and Lila and hide her distaste of them as Ladybug, upholding the hero’s virtuous reputation. Inside, her heart was protesting how she still had to be perfect even while wearing a mask.

Who is that girl I see

Seriously. On the outside, Marinette looks the same. But she knows one thing. That is not the real her.

If her friends couldn’t accept her for who she really is, then they aren’t her friends after all. She needs friends with whom she can be herself. And at least her parents will always be on her side.

Like suppressing feelings will stop akumas from coming. Like feigning forgiveness actually helps Chloé mature. And please, Lila’s influence has only grown from Marinette’s silence, and she’s using it to make Marinette look bad.

Marinette let her hair down. It was a small change, but it was a symbol that she was finally taking no more shit.

That day at school, Marinette calmly told Adrien she was exposing Lila with or without his approval. Surprisingly, Adrien didn’t protest. But he did ask how she would do it.

Marinette went to Alya and said she had evidence that Lila was a liar. She called Jagged right then and there and asked for confirmation about Lila’s claims.

Jagged: what kind of Jagged fan would actually believe that garbage? Do I look like someone who would own a kitten? Even if I weren’t allergic to fur, I would have tried to get a tiger, not a tabby.

Marinette: thanks for clearing that up Jagged. Now Alya, I’ve shown my evidence. Where is yours that Lila is Ladybug’s best friend? You did ask Ladybug for verification right? Otherwise, even Mr Ramier could have that claim, given the number of times he’s treated the heroes to ice cream.

Alya paled.

Lila wailed. “Why are you being so mean?”

Marinette: because I have had enough about listening to you go on and on, making up disabilities that you never back up with an MC. And for crying out loud, Max, how can a napkin ball gouge out your eye?!

Max sank down in shame.

Ms Bustier arrived to see the commotion. “What’s going on here?”

Lila: Marinette is being mean to me!

Alya, coming out of her shock, rises to Marinette’s defense: no, she was just waking us up! You’ve never had any evidence to back your tales.

Caline: alright. Let’s try to calm things down now. Marinette, you should know better than to raise a ruckus.

Marinette: it’s better to have things settled here and now instead of letting things simmer. Like what would Mrs Rossi say if her own daughter was truant for months because you didn’t check in with her properly?

Caline: ...that’s...that’s enough, young lady! To the principal’s office.

Marinette shrugged. “Sure. I can also report on how you left all the adult duties of field trip organisations and charity fundraising to me.”

Caline paled, but Marinette was already out the door.

Marinette felt good for venting. And she certainly tore into the principal for never disciplining Chloé. What would the media make of that? She is babysitting Nadja’s daughter tomorrow night. Maybe she should bring up the fact that their principal was not at the school most of the time, but outside being The Owl. That would certainly grab the school board’s attention. Especially considering how he reconstructed the principal office without proper permission.

The principal paled at the threat and promised to see Chloé disciplined.

Marinette wasn’t going to wait. She wanted discipline now. “Is the Owl really a Chicken?”

Damocles: I...I...

Marinette left the office satisfied as Damocles agreed to summon Caline to his office. She passed her teacher with a smug smile on her face.

Everyone stayed silent in class when Marinette returned, careful about triggering another salty comment from her.

When Caline returned, she was shaky. She had been suspended for not doing her job as a teacher. Principal Damocles was all for using her as a scapegoat. Today would be her last day. And as Chloé would inevitably be a bully again in an hour or 2, the blonde would receive her first detention. She can call her father all she likes, but Marinette will be ready with a whole list of people, including Aurore, ready to bring Chloe’s bullying nature to the spotlight. Ladybug would be sure to look for a new bee hero then.

And the principal called Mrs Rossi who arrived to pick up her daughter who was now suspended and grounded.

Lila and Chloé shrieked at Marinette for interfering. But Marinette had been Ladybug for a long time now. She wasn’t going to back down.

Marinette: someone has to stand up to you, and remind you the world does not revolve around you.

And sure there was an akuma. But Marinette was prepared. Good thing her mother taught her self-defense. She knocked the akuma flat on its back, before snatching the akumatized object to give to Ladybug.

When Marinette got home, she still didn’t recognise her reflection. But she was getting there. Today had been about venting and finally setting wrongs to rights. In time, people will see that Marinette has become a lot more honest and proud and stubborn, but she is also less submissive.

Is that who she really is?

Someone who feels comfortable in her own skin.

I feel cheated out of a Silencer and Onii-Chan team up. Like.. Hear me out.

Let’s say Luka and Kagami were in this episode. We know Kagami is now friends Marinette and most definitely dislikes Lila.

Luka would be angry like how he was in Silencer.

Kagami would be angry because Lila is accusing her best friend.

Both would become akumatized because of that, most likely joining Princess Justice in an attempt to find Justice for Mari. If they all didn’t get deakumatized, it is very likely that Lila would have been outted.

Quick Thoughts on Silencer, Bakerix, and Onii-Chan

Thoughts under the cut because spoilers abound :) And I’m sorry if they don’t seem to make much sense? I’m taking a study break so my brain is meh (yay finals).

So... what a mix.

I’ve rewatched Silencer and saw Bakerix and Onii-Chan for the first time tonight. And I have many thoughts, particularly in tune with how the fandom is treating new episodes.

I apologize if some of these opinions are not in the majority, but we’ll get to those when we do. We’ll go in the order I saw them and (I think) how they were released.

Silencer

I really really really really loved this episode. I don’t know why, but it seemed written kinda well for once? The Akumatization of Luka (which I’d always dreaded being something contrived) felt warranted, which was something I felt hadn’t happened in a while. Also, Lukanette is cute. I’m a hardcore Love Square shipper, but man is legitimate Lukanette refreshing to see.

Also, “LuCKy ChARm, lUCkY cHaRM, LUCKy CHarm, LUckY cHarM” is forever my favorite Chat Noir moment.

Bakerix

This was obviously meant to be one of the more light-hearted episodes, and I think it shows. It’s goofier and over-the-top (my sister said Marinette’s Grandpa lowkey sounded like current baby boomer mindset and I swear I died laughing, I love her). This is where I felt the Akuma was a little weak - not in power, but in reason. Like... I’m sorry, but bread??? Bread???? Like, I was surprised when Hawk Moth showed up like, “hmmmMMMM”. The Akuma didn’t have that big a resonance, but then again, I don’t think it was supposed to.

Bread. That is all.

Onii-Chan

I saw a lot more spoilers for this before I saw the episode. And, I gotta say, the fandom scared me a lot more than for what the episode delivered.

Lila was still a piece of garbage. Like... a very serious piece of garbage. But we’ve seen this before. She lies, gets what she wants, etc. It (for once) kinda turned on her, but nothing new there. And it was nice to see Kagami again. I always enjoy her.

Except for when they write her kinda OOC.

Kagami loves Adrien - this has been established. Well good and all. But she is not obsessed with him, which I think is the angle they were going for. And that doesn’t make sense for who she is as a character. The archetype she’s mostly filling, at least (reserved and strong af female), is usually shown to be extremely OOC when having a “debilitating crush on male protagonist” cliche moment.

Also - having three (four if you count Chloe, but she seems to be strangely out of the picture a lot this season) recurring characters all fighting over “perfect boi” Agreste is exhausting and crowding to watch. They don’t have any room to develop, except for Marinette, who has been the show’s protagonist since the beginning and we’ve seen her develop. My thoughts are jumbled a bit at the moment, but considering that Adrien knows Lila is a liar, Kagami is basically his friend (and maybe part-time ‘it’d be nice’ crush), and only has eyes for Ladybug, there’s no real grip here, especially when he keeps finding reasons to go for Ladybug over the other girls.

I don’t know, romance-oriented plots rub me the wrong way. Also, I agree, Kagami deserves better than Adrien.

Onichan and Bakerix Review! SPOILER WARNING AHEAD!!

Two new episodes of MLB!! Huge spoiler warning if you have not seen them!!

Here I will discuss my many feelings on the two lastest episodes of MLB, and link the English Subs I watched if you haven’t seen them yet!

So Lila returned and is still up to her tricks. Somehow people are still listening to her, which means that Marinette and Adrien have not told their classmates about her. Big oops there.

I honestly don’t appreciate Marinette eavesdropping and stalking Adrien at all, I never liked it before and I still don’t. I think it makes her love for Adrien seem more obsessive and really downplays how incredibly loving she can be. But at the same time I can see why she follows him, because she knows Lila is going to use him and hurt him. In a way she is looking out for a friend but she knows that Adrien knows that Lila is a liar. Therefore there is no need for her to be concerned. I’m conflicted on her motivations but in the long run she looks obsessive.

Kagami is a great character and I’ve always loved her, and my heart broke when she started crying. But I don’t understand how she can love Adrien??? If a guy took me on a date, where not only did he not tell you it was a double date with a girl friend of his, but also abandons you to go after said girl. I would be pissed, not in love? Maybe she has convinced herself that Adrien is insecure and little ignorant but that also mean he is ignorant to his feelings about her?? I don’t understand Kagami feelings but I like her.

Also she is a great potential partner for him. Hear me out because I’m a hard Adrienette, he trusts her more than any other girl. He cares for and obviously she is more than capable. His father seems to approve of her and she looks out for him. Marinette can barely string a sentence in front of him and her obsessive stalking is a bit creepy. I kinda ship Adrigami??? But then again after Silencer, Lukanette is looking fantastic.

My biggest problem with this episode is that...

Overall this episode was quite painful to watch, and I’m mad at our little sunshine child.

So he pounds it with Ladybug this episode but it was too much in the previous??? I’m really salty at him! Lukanette is looking fan-fucking-tastic compared to the disaster of the love square.

So Mari's grandpa has not left the house in twenty years meaning, he did not go to Tom and Sabine's wedding, missed Marinette's birth and her all of her birthdays. Probably missed Tom and Sabine opening the bakery? Like wow that man was stubborn AF, glad he didn’t pass that on to Tom or Marinette.

I truly had a hard time this episode, Marinette's grandpa was so bitter and stubborn it was a lot to watch initially. But by the end he was so loving and caring towards her, I had to forgive him. He had Chat take him home and ran inside to see if she was safe. Marinette was a goddamn angel this episode like how she had the patience to deal with him was beyond me. But it was amazing to see her wit and see how truly clever Marinette is. Obviously nobody is better at problem solving like her, she deserves to be a hero of be paris 100%.

So this might be me being detailed oriented but when I searched up the episode list for this season, one of the future episodes is called 'Startrain'. Episode thirteen to be exact. And the train that was being announced in this episode was called Startrain, coincidence?

And According to the synopsis of Startrain; "Ladybug and Cat Noir challenge Max's mother, now Startrain." Meaning that Max's mother is somehow apart of the new train!!! Possibly the builder or the founder of the train? Maybe she is a politician who is against it. But that’s just a theory, a MIRACULOUS theory.

My favourite part of the episode was seeing Tom and Sabine's wedding photo, how sweet!! She looked absolutely gorgeous in her gown!!! I wanna draw Marinette trying on her mother's wedding dress.

I liked the second half more than the first half but it was alright episode in total. I appreciate having a look into Tom's side more and where his love of baking comes from. Especially how he has taught Marinette everything he knows.

Intervention

During my time watching ELOD, I have had inspired ideas for ML fics. The problem is that while I have a starting point, I am not sure how to proceed. Hence I will give rough drafts and you are welcome to suggest ideas or continue the story in the comments.

The girls agree Marinette has got to cool down when it comes to Adrien after she took Juleka’s bike to spy on him.

Marinette has to agree when she remembers what could have happened if Lila had posted that picture of her after falling down.

Alya: we are not saying you shouldn’t fight for Adrien. But be decent about it.

Marinette recalls sabotaging Kagami at the premiere and feels bad. If she spies and tries to sabotage other girls, she would be as bad as Chloé. That’s a horrifying thought.

Marinette: so what should I do?

Alix: for starters, I say get rid of your stutter. What’s the point of getting rid of your competition if you can’t even talk to Adrien anyway?

Juleka: Don’t treat Adrien like a possession. He’s a real person who just wants to make friends. He has flaws like everyone.

Marinette ruefully recalled invading Adrien’s privacy. It’s true. Friends just don’t do that.

Alya glanced at the photos: being a fan is all well and good, but maybe having his schedule is overboard.

Marinette: oh, i got that from Nathalie to help schedule class events that Adrien can attend. (Let’s just say stealing a birthday present made Nathalie feel a bit guilty)

Mylene: point is, be Adrien’s friend first and foremost. Because all he’s wanted is to make friends and be a normal teenager like everybody else.

Alix: and frankly, you’re more of an obsessed fan than a friend.

Alya: ease up, Alix.

Alix shrugged.

Marinette:...alright, I’ll try.

It was hard. Given her crush, Marinette still found it hard to talk to Adrien. But she stopped trying to follow him and it was progress.

Alya asked Marinette when were the few times she could actually talk to Adrien.

Marinette: Well, there was that time we were playing video games. When we were celebrating Chloe leaving New York...And before when I tried to expose Lila...

Alya: Hmm, ignoring that last bit, I think I get it. You can talk to Adrien when your main focus is on something else. Don’t worry; I’ve got this.

And that was how Adrien and Marinette were invited to give their opinions on what makes a video game fun to Max.

Then there was a debate on Paris supeheroes where Marinette actually argued with Adrien.

When Marinette is busy critiquing magazine fashions, Adrien comes up and asks her what she is doing. Since she is in the zone, Marinette easily answers him and easily lets him join her in the commentary.

The girls were pleased. Finally, Adrien was getting a chance to know the real Marinette and vice versa.

Indeed, Marinette can laugh at Adrien’s jokes, but she draws the line at cat puns.

Adrien learns his puns are the fastest way to make Marinette comfortable around him.

And when it comes time for friendship day, Marinette is willing to give Kagami a chance, even if she does find her questions unsettling. And yeah, they would have won had it not been for Kagami’s mother finding out. Oh well, the point is to make a new friend.

Come the Bourgeois anniversary, things follow as Canon.
