Love and Deepspace LI and MC Fragrance Headcanons from a Candle/Perfume Maker

Have had this thread pinned on my Twitter for a bit and thought I might as well bring it over here.

Once upon a time, I used to make candles and body sprays based on characters from various IPs. I unfortunately had to give that business up for a multitude of reasons, but mixing fragrances is still very much a passion of mine, so when I get into LaDS, I of course started thinking about fragrances for them.

That said, I also had the thought that I wanted to do what each of the LI's smell like as well as perfumes I think each of the LI's would like to smell on their MC's. So when I came across this tweet from Meg a while back, I QRT with my idea dump, which is below!

Zayne

Slate/Black Ice, Pine, Jasmine, Sandalwood, Palo Santo, a tiny hint of Peppermint Patty for mintiness and sweetness, and a hint of Patchouli

Going for a cold earthiness, like a frozen winter forest, but Men's Cologne edition. I actually started mixing this one lol

Zayne's MC

Sweet Jasmine, White Tea, a hint of Pear, Vanilla, and a little bit of Patchouli as a base note

Soft and sweet, just a tiny bit of a fruitiness to it but mostly leaning on the jasmine and everything else is just there in small quantities to enhance the jasmine

Sylus

Tobacco, Patchouli, Leather, Smoke, Black Pepper, Clove, Cedar, and some Amber and Whisky to have some top notes there

Going for a smoky, spicy, but smooth masculine scent that's very bottom heavy, and very reminiscent of a high end cologne

Sylus' MC

Pomegranate, Blackberry, Amber, Clove, Cedar, Tobacco

The Persephone to Sylus' Hades. This mix of these fragrances in the right ratio gets you a rich red wine kind of scent. Bumping up the tobacco and clove a bit adds a spiciness to match Sylus' beloved sorceress

Xavier

Sandalwood, Clean Cotton, White Musk, and hints of Lavender, Sage, and Lily

Going for a mix of cozy blankets in warm afternoon sunshine, plus some brighter notes reminiscent of a nighttime meadow (had the animation that precedes his 5* wishes in mind)

Xavier's MC

Sweet Cherry, Cherry Blossom, Rose, Soft Vanilla, and a hint of Teak for a bottom note

Also going for a soft sweater vibe, but more feminine with a hint of fruitiness, almost like a scented lip gloss that makes you want to eat it (or kiss their lips 👀)

Plumeria, Hibiscus, Driftwood, tiny hints of Coconut and Pineapple to add extra beachiness, Teak Wood, Oakmoss (adds a marine element at the right ratio), and a hint of Clove as a nod to his fire evol

Pairing:  Bob Reynolds x Reader

Summary: After saying “I do,” Bob and the reader enjoy their wedding ceremony and honeymoon in Scotland. 

Author’s note: This was a request from @horrormovielover2000. The reader has some Slavic ancestry, which influences some of the traditions at the reception, including bonfires and setting wreaths free on the water. (Typically wreaths on the water are done in a river or lake but this will be on the ocean). 

Warning:  Unprotected p in v, light choking, honeymoon smut. Pretty basic.

As the waves crested on the beach, Alexei, the officiant, clapped his hands and said, “Bob, you can finally kiss your beautiful bride!”

Cheers erupted from the crowd when Bob grasped your face in his hands and kissed you slowly. You almost forgot everyone around you, sinking into the feeling of his lips on yours, his tongue washing over yours just slightly. “I love you,” Bob said, smiling wide as his hand slipped into yours. 

“I love you more,” you whispered back.

Alexei slapped your backs, nearly shaking the breath from you. “You two deserve each other,” he said softly before projecting to the wedding guests. “And now, time for the reception!”

While your guests began to grab your signature wedding cocktail, a mix of pineapple juice, orange juice, rum and grenadine, you and Bob changed out of your formal wear and into more comfortable clothing. Bob slipped into some black slacks and white button-up shirt while you slipped into a short red dress with straps that gathered at the back of your neck. “You’re stunning,” Bob said, gathering you to his chest. “Let’s get back to our guests before I take you somewhere quiet around here and have my way with you.”

Giggling, you grabbed Bob’s hand and ran back toward the beach where the bonfire was starting, the orange flame a stark contrast to the star-studded night sky. After your first dance to the classic “At Last” by Etta James, your guests gathered around the bonfire and started dancing with reckless abandon. You even ditched Bob for a moment to dance with Yelena and Ava and the rest of your bridesmaids and friends. Bob had a drink in his hand and John, Bucky and Alexei by his side. He was blushing which led you to believe they were saying something about your upcoming honeymoon. 

As the bonfire roared, you gathered your guests to the restaurant on the beach where a sea of tables had been set up for dinner. Instead of a sit down meal, you’d constructed a buffet with everything you both loved, including some Russian dishes that Alexei liked to make, pierogis, goulash, blinis, and kopytka. Thankfully, you’d ensured an abundance of food, given your three super-soldier friends with matching appetites and nearly 200 guests. 

Nearly an hour later, everyone was stuffed to the brim with food and started mingling back on the beach where the bonfire had been kept going. Instead of getting right back into dancing, you, Bob and your guests gathered wreaths of herbs and flowers to let them go in the water. The farther they went, the longer and happier your marriage would be. 

As the wreaths flowed outward on the waves, the music picked up again. Bob picked you up effortlessly and ran toward the bonfire, planting your feet on the ground before joining you in a spirited dance that enraptured your guests. 

After cutting the cake, you returned to dancing, slowly swaying in Bob’s arms as the stars shined overhead and the fire continued to crackle. “Were the guys making inappropriate jokes before?” You asked Bob. 

“John was talking about the honeymoon,” he laughed. 

“What did you say?” You smiled against his mouth before you kissed him. 

“That even though Scotland is beautiful, I plan on keeping you in the bedroom most of the time.” A blush hit the apples of his cheeks and went back to the tips of his ears. 

“Promise?”

“Promise.”

With lush green fields, quiet lochs, and mountains as far as the eye could see, Scotland was one of the most beautiful places you’d ever seen. But nothing held a candle to the small bed-and-breakfast you and your new husband were staying in. It was small and cozy, with a room overlooking the lake. Thunder and lightning cracked across the sky as you screamed Bob’s name and dug your fingers into his hair. 

You giggled as he crawled up your body, eyes blown wide with lust, your arousal still on his lips. “Kiss me,” you chuckled, tasting yourself on his tongue. You whined as his hips ground against yours, his cock heavy against your thigh. “Need you.”

Bob kissed the side of your neck, slowly sucking at your pulse point. “You have me,” he mumbled against your skin, “forever.”

Reaching between your sweat-slick bodies, you grasped his cock and slid it against your slickness over and over again until neither of you could take it anymore. As he sank into you, he moaned, eyes rolling back in his head. “Damn, baby, you-you take me so well.”

You arched up into him, rolling your hips in time with his thrusts. “Fuck, harder baby, please.”

Bob reached his hand up to your throat, pressing gently on the sides as he picked up the pace. “Such a good girl for me,” he groaned. “My good girl.”

His praise fueled your need and you wrapped your legs around his waist, pulling him in deeper, harder, faster with each thrust. “I’m gonna come. Bob, don’t stop, please.”

“I don’t plan to,” he moaned, bringing his hand to the side of your face. “Gonna make you come all over this cock again and again and again.”

As the waves began to crest, you snaked your hand into his hair and brought him close. Heavy breaths, moans and the sounds of your bodies colliding filled your ears and overtook your senses, bringing you to the edge with another cry. You felt Bob come with you, thick spurts filling you up.

“Fuck,” he breathed, laughing as he practically collapsed on top of you. “You’re amazing. God, I love you.”

“ I love you, too.”

Just as you were about to sink into a heavy makeout session, the phone rang. “Uh-oh,” Bob said, blushing. “I think we’re loud.”

Calm and collected, you picked up the phone to hear exactly what you thought. You weren’t exactly quiet. “We’re so sorry,” you said, choking back a laugh. “We’ll try to keep it down.”

When you hung up the phone, Bob slipped out of you and came to rest at your side, eyes heavy with exertion and sleep. The rain continued to pound on the roof overhead, almost lulling you to sleep. “Fuck me senseless again when we wake up?” He asked. 

“Promise.”

Oh, like, different teas I like to make? Okay! :D

🍍Pineapple Tea🍍

The way I do it is really simple:

Buy a giant jug of already-made tea (I like gold peak!)

Buy a carton of pineapple juice

Freeze the juice into cubes, pour a little of it in the tea for extra flavor

And that's it. That's aaaall you gotta do.

There's all kindsa ways you can dress it up, but nine times out of ten I just do this and drink it by the gallon when it's hot out.

If you wanna get fancy with it, feel free to cold brew your own black (or green) tea, add actual hunks of pineapple fruit in there, add some orange juice, add some honey, add some coconut milk or sweetened condensed milk, whatever sounds good! (Also, pairing pineapple tea with coconut cookies? SO GOOD.) Put mint in the pineapple cubes if you like mint! Add a bit of boiled ginger root or some brown sugar and cinnamon for a little kick! Heck, last summer I used blue peaflower star-shaped ice cubes just because they were pretty.

(Peaflower petals don't taste like much, but they make a GORGEOUS blue, and if you put something acidic in there like lemon juice IT TURNS PINK. :D)

🍓Strawberry Tea🍓

I find this stuff sort of difficult to find where I live, so often I go the same route as the pineapple tea: grab a jug of black tea, grab a jug of strawberry juice, (ocean spray has a really nice cran-strawberry one I like) freeze the juice, mix, and enjoy. Super simple.

If I can't find strawberry juice, I dice some strawberries up and put it in a jar with some water and a bit of sugar for a few hours, then add *that* to the tea. (heck, it's really nice all by itself!)

What goes with strawberry? ANY DANG THING YOU WANT. I am particularly fond of lychee. Jasmine tea and rose petals pair really well with it too. Again, if you like mint, it's *really* nice with strawberry. And you know how if you put black pepper on strawberries they taste even strawberrier? (If you haven't tried this, go do it, it's magic.) Same goes with the tea, add some peppercorns or a teeny bit of chili powder or some ginger.

If you wanna drink it hot or cold brew a batch of your own, here are some brands that are also nice:

2. Adagio Strawberry Tea (this is also where I got the peaflower petals)

3. Any of Lupicia's Strawberry Teas they are HEAVENLY

🍏Apple Tea🍏

As with the pineapple and strawberry teas, it's totally fine to just go find some ready-made tea and mix it with some apple cider or apple juice for tasty low spoons fun. If you drink it iced, a bit of sugar and lemon juice brings out the apple flavor nicely!

I prefer drinking this stuff hot though. You know that Fall Drink post that was floating around? IF YOU HAVEN'T YET, TRY IT, IT'S AWESOME.

☕Chai Tea☕

So here's the thing about chai for me personally: I don't tend to drink it iced or sugary, but if you do like it iced and sugary, there are a couple of really nice chai tea concentrates:

Oregon Chai Latte

Tazo's Chai Latte (Forget the "skinny" nonsense, I just wanted to include an option with no milk so you can add whatever you want to it)

Pacific Chai isn't concentrated, but you can use it to make hot or iced chai and it's really lovely, not too sweet and super easy to work with. As for dressing up chai, I don't tend to! There's already so much going on with all the flavors, I just drink it as-is most days. Play with milk-to-tea ratios or sugar amounts all you like, figure out what's your jam.

I do know that mixing chai and coffee together (or chai and chocolate together) is guaranteed to make a feeling groovy kind of morning, at least if you have two thumbs and you're me. Iiii think that's all the tea blather I can think of for right now. Thank you for asking, anon, it was fun! Anybody reading this, feel free to add your own favorite things to do with tea. :D

COLOURS: Symbolisms, Associations & Psychological Effects

Black. Especially in Gothic literature from the West, a black colour choice often represents death, evil, grief, and depression. Associated with fear, the unknown and often has a negative connotation. Black clothes can make you look thinner. A black background severely diminishes the readability of most type. Often the go to colour for funerals and grieving. It symbolizes stability and power, which gives a sense of authority. Thus, the black colour often represents professionalism and expertise.

Blue. Has positive and negative connotations in colour psychology. Some writers may use blue to represent serenity and tranquility, instilling a scene with a calming effect. Blue can also signify sadness, melancholy, or isolation. People who find someone very loyal and faithful are often called "true blue". Blue is often considered to be more masculine which is why it is often the colour of choice when choosing a suit. Lighter blues are associated with tranquility, softness and healing. Darker blues are associated with power, knowledge and seriousness. Blue is actually shown to suppress appetites a bit. The colour blue symbolizes wisdom and hope. It’s the colour of peace and confidence. Blue has been shown to reduce blood pressure and pulse rate. It fosters serenity and a sense of belonging.

Green. The colour green often symbolizes rebirth, growth, peace, jealousy, and greed. Green colours may also represent spring and renewal. It is a colour that is very easy on the eyes. Dark green is often associated with ambition. Green suggests stability, safety and hope. At the same time, it may denote a lack of experience in a particular field. Green symbolizes peace, growth, and nature. It is the colour of success, promoting healing and tranquility.

Orange. The colour orange often represents energy, excitement, joy, and creativity. Since orange is the colour of fire, it may also symbolize heat. Since orange is not as aggressive as red, it can actually stimulate brain activity. It is very useful to catch someone's attention, which is why it's used a lot to advertise food and toys.

Pink. The colour pink symbolizes love, kindness, femininity, innocence, and playfulness. Certain shades of pink can limit aggression. Pink may be associated with unconditional love and caring.

Purple. Often associated with royalty, the colour purple symbolizes bravery, spirituality, and luxury. Light purple usually brings up romantic or nostalgic feelings; while a darker shade can make you feel gloomy or sad.

Red. The colour red symbolizes some of the most powerful human emotions, like passionate love or lust. On the other side of the spectrum, this warm colour is also the colour of blood, often symbolizing anger, danger, and violence. It stimulates the appetite. Red is an emotionally intense colour associated with energy, danger, anger, passion and determination. The symbolic meaning associated with the colour red is passion, excitement, and love. It’s the colour of urgency, power, and desire. Red is said to boost hunger and is believed to inspire confidence and excitement. This colour has also been found to increase blood pressure and heart rate.

White. This primary colour traditionally symbolizes innocence, peace, and cleanliness. In Western cultures, the colour white also represents purity and virginity, while it symbolizes mourning in some East Asian cultures. Usually has positive connotations when used and thought of as safe. Associated a lot with healing, simplicity and sterility, which is why it's used in hospitals and healing centers as much as it is. The symbolic meaning of the colour white is truth and sometimes even indifference. It encourages feelings of safety and cleanliness. Clean, white clothes and linens show sterility since stains are easily visible. That’s why doctors and nurses frequently wear white lab coats and scrubs.

Yellow. Writers may use the colour yellow to symbolize creativity, happiness, optimism, and warmth—think of a yellow ray of sunlight poking out from a dark cloud. A common negative connotation of the color yellow is cowardice, popularized by the phrase “yellow-bellied.” Warming effect which stimulates body and mind. Gold is associated with the highest of luxury. When bright yellow is used with black it's one of the easiest colour combinations to see from long distances; when uses with lighter colours it's not so easy to see. Yellow ribbons are worn as a symbol of hope and used quite often to welcome home loved ones. Yellow is the colour of warmth, kindness, and happiness. It’s often associated with optimism and well-being and promotes energy.

Brown. This warm, earthy brown colour may symbolize dependability, comfort, and a sense of being grounded. Brown is also a neutral colour, and writers may use it to represent dullness and predictability. Brown is a colour that is related to very grounded traits such as simplicity, practicality, common sense and hard work. Can also be associated with those that are frugal and not too flashy.

Gray. Lighter grays are often thought of as more feminine while darker grays more masculine. Gray is considered by many to be a neutral colour; the perfect balance between light and dark / good and evil. Pop up the lighter grays and add a little shine to it, and thought immediately turns to silver, which correlates to wealth.

A Comprehensive Look at Neopian Apples

The Neopian Biology Project has identified >90 items with the word "Apple" in the name that are worth considering as species candidates.

Previously, I tried to categorize these items in roughly alphabetical order, but this time I've tried a new approach. Essentially, I made a few "buckets" that a candidate could fall into, and hoped that by correlating candidates to buckets, the trickier determinations could be made easier.

Because there are 90+ "apple" candidates, I won't be posting every single apple's information. However I will be linking their Jellyneo pages, and you can always find information relevant to the project on our spreadsheet.

First up:

Part 1: Apples that aren't apples

These are candidates that may qualify as distinct species, but are only referred to as "apple" colloquially, and are not actually apples.

These are:

Blue Ice Apple - From space; alien.

Imposter Apple [sic] - "That's no apple!" Possibly a common orange.

Flat Apple Fruit - Neither apple nor Flatfruit

Grapple - Not to be confused for the Grapple Apple.

Pearapple - Species of pear.

Triapple

Arnapple

Blackapple - See below.

Dewy Apple

Pineapple

Pyrapple - Possibly a pineapple. See below.

Many of these species make reference to tasting like an apple, which in these cases I have chosen to take as unironic comparisons rather than some joking "it tastes like an apple because it is an apple!" These specimens also all have un-apple-like (unapfellich) features that make them easy to consider them non-apples, at least morphologically.

The two exceptions/uncertainties are the Pyrapple and Blackapple.

The Pyrapple is not an apple, for certain, but may be a Pineapple. We'll either explore it in another post about Neopian Pineapples, or in its own post, but not here.

The Blackapple requires a closer look:

I hope the inside is not as black as the outside.

There isn't much to go off of here. This specimen is from Apple Bobbing, but if you take all the Apple Bobbing specimens together, this isn't a good indicator of apfellichkeit ("apple-ness"). Both non-apple and apple species are mixed up in Apple Bobbing, and some of the apple species are qualifying candidates while some are variants of other apples (we'll discuss this more in the next part).

The description is also very typical of Apple Bobbing and specimens from the Haunted Woods in general — that specific brand of Neopets humor that hints at something that should concern you, but won't tell you the full extent of the problem or how it occurred. This kind of description has influenced me greatly as a writer and is also the bane of my existence as a scientist.

The deciding factor for me here is that the Blackapple isn't a Black Apple, or a Blackened Apple as we'll see some of later. Blackapple is a new word, akin to the made-up "Triapple," "Arnapple," and "Pineapple" above. Because of this, I have been swayed to consider the Blackapple a unique, non-apple species.

Spring has sprung.

It's Spring time in DC,which means we get to enjoy the beauty of the cherry blossoms. The weather wasn't so great this year,but they were still pretty.

1.5oz white rum 1oz pineapple juice 1oz cream of coconut 3/4oz lime juice 1/2oz blue curacao 1/2oz cinnamon syrup

Shake well with plenty of ice and pour into hurricane glass.

Created by Justin Wojslaw,from the book Minimalist Tiki. Despite the name,there is no cherry in the drink,and it's actually turquoise colored instead of red. So it's pretty much the perfect drink for the way things work in DC. It's sweet and creamy with a cinnamon profile. Pretty good,if a bit touristy.

1.5oz Demerara rum 1/2oz rhum agricole 3/4oz Cherry Heering 3/4oz lemon juice 1/2oz orgeat

Shake with ice and pour into Mai Tai glass.

I love Mai Tais,so a cherry version was perfect to go with the blossoms. Created by Nathan Robinson,it pretty much tastes like a tart cherry Mai Tai. Quite nice.

Mix #162 Paradise Cooler

2oz white rum 1/2oz Cherry Heering 1oz velvet falernum 2oz orange juice 1oz lime juice

Shake with ice and pour into double old fashioned glass. Garnish with cherry speared with an apple slice.

This was the house drink of the Denver Hilton in the 1960's. It's tart and citrus-y with some spice and a bit of cherry finish. Very nice. A good Tiki drink for cherry fans.

Mix #163 Hemingway Daiquiri

2oz white rum 3/4oz lime juice 1/2oz grapefruit juice 1/2oz maraschino liqueur*

Shake with ice until chilled,then strain into coupe glass.

So,the story goes that Ernest Hemingway went into the El Floridita bar in Havana to use the restroom. On the way out the bartender was setting up a line of daiquiris and Hemingway decided to try one. He commented that it wasn't bad,but he preferred twice the rum and no sugar. So the bartender made one his way and named the drink after him. And over time it has morphed into the recipe above. No idea if any of this is true,but it's a good story. Since Ernest was a man's man,I decided to use Smith & Cross navy rum instead of white rum. The result was a VERY tart drink(I did use Heering which is tarter than maraschino liqueur). I didn't want Ernest's ghost to haunt me and call me a wuss,so I finished it,but if I were ever to make another I'd definitely dump in some simple syrup. If tart's your thing,then you might like this.

Mix #164 Ankle Breaker

1oz 151 rum* 1oz Cherry Heering 1oz lemon juice 1/2 oz simple syrup

Shake with ice and pour into double rocks glass.

I came across this recipe in a Facebook group. According to Beachbum Berry's book Remixed,this was created in the Swamp Fox Room bar in the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina sometime in the 1950's. It was inspired by a story about hero of the Revolutionary War,General Francis Marion(AKA,the Swamp Fox),who supposedly broke his ankle jumping from a second-story window of the hotel while trying “to escape sober from a party at which this drink was flowing too freely.” Again,no idea if this is true but a good story is a good story. While 151 rum is intended for this,the poster used Wray & Nephew Overproof(which is "only" 126 proof) and since I have W&N and have been meaning to use it more,I used it too. And since I like funk I also doubled down and used Demerara syrup instead of regular simple. Very nice. This drink is very daiquiri-like. The rum really came forward with just a bit of cherry finish. Of course with overproof rum it had some kick. I'm going to make this again with some other rums just to play around with it.

most headcanons i have for dorcas' friend group are breakfast related for some reason. so I'm gonna share:

dorcas is such a dry toast eater. like practically burnt toast as well.

barty is so lactose intolerant. he also refuses to succumb to that and consumes lactose on the daily. very milky tea, yogurts, toast with butter and cheese on, cereal swimming in milk.

Dietry aspects that help you if you suffer from thyroid issues, specifically hashimoto's disease:

Avoid gluten. It sucks, yeah, but every source i found so far agrees on this. People with thyroid issues are more likely to be straight up gluten intolerant! If that isn't the case, you absolutely don't need to cut gluten out of your life. However, you should try to reduce the intake regardless. But not to worry! You can find brands that have pasta, bread mixes, pizza dough, even little snacks as gluten free! Alternatives are also always rice or corn for a lot of things. If you like to snack on crunchy things like cookies i can really recommend rice waffles. They even come with chocolate and other flavors a lot of the time. And as for the bread mixes don't worry, at least the german brand i get has the lowest effort kinda stuff. As in, put water, stirr, form on tray, oven, done (and i found one that is SO delicious to me even!)

Avoid pork. Also got this one from multiple sources. Like with gluten, it can be a problem if you're out a lot, BUT there is usually plenty of other meat. My go to is chicken or turkey. Beef is great too, but naturally it's more expensive than chicken etc. You don't need to cut out stuff like salami either because these days there's a lot of alternatives to pork in those regards

Veggies, veggies, veggies! I mean, who doesn't this apply to?! Vegetables are great and have so many vitamins. I try to eat a salad a day and have some veggies in my lunch. There is so many different vegetables, there's sure to be SOMETHING for you! In my salad for example i put grated carrots even though i don't like them apart from that. I also put apple to make it more sweet and delicious! (Note: for salad you should put some oil, otherwise your body can't absorb the nutrients that well. I love pumpkin sees oil bc i'm picky and don't like olive oil. But there's more you might like too!) Potatoes count as well for your vitamins. Put anything with some meat or in a stew or with rice, it doesn't really matter how you make them

Fruit is less helpful than veggies, but it's still great! Especially berries, apples, oranges, peaches, plums and more are helpful. That's because they have less sugar that for example pineapple, banana, grapes, or mango

Seeds and nuts. They can help you as well. I usually put sunflower seeds in my salad, but you can also put something in cereal or yoghurt or your lunch! They're nice and crunchy and can be great additions to some food

Less (cow) milk. Milk is fineee, but you shouldn't overdo it. Especialy with things with a lot of fat, like cream

Most fish. Most fish is great, salmon and tuna for example. In general, fish is really healthy. I don't like it but i know many do! So definitely keep eating it! :)

Eggs. Eggs are always good, get your protein! Many lovely ways to make eggs. Just make sure you don't always eat them with too much fat, so be careful with your fried or scrambled egg

Those are things i was told by a doctor or things i found from different sources on the internet. Some is obvious like you should just so in general get protein and vegebtables!

But for example, i've had hashimoto's disease for over six years now and only THIS YEAR i was told by a doctor that i should avoid gluten

So i wanted to make a little post for me and for others to have a quick check list regarding one's diet with thyroid issues! If you know/think of anything else, please share! It'll be much appreciated!

Just watched a video about Tumblr food concoctions so now I must impart the wisdom of the worst food I’ve ever tasted upon y’all.

It’s third grade. You’re sitting at your table eating a regular PB&J sandwich. Your lunchroom is under a church so you enjoy the few times when people can talk and not sit in awkward silence for whatever wedding/funeral is going on above you- when suddenly you hear people at the table behind you cheering. You turn to see what’s going on and behind you, you see your distantly-related friend Brianna mixing cups of fruit sides together. You can’t exactly tell *what* she mixed; but it looks like cherries, pineapple slices, and apple sauce. Basically a zhuzhed up fruit cocktail.

The table of children around her begin to chant “Eat it! Eat it! Eat it!” Before she tips the black plastic container that she’d mixed it in into her mouth. The children applaud.

You think “I can definitely do better than that.” Not because you hate Brianna or anything, you just like attention. So you look around at what you have. Pretty much your entire lunch (Chocolate milk, an orange, and a PB&J) had been eaten by this point. And the cafeteria line wasn’t open anymore. Tainting the chocolate milk would be near sacrilegious because you always have to have some kind of drink to wash down whatever awful flavor you’re about to force yourself through. There’s nothing left of the orange except a peel, and you’re not an animal so you’re not going to eat an orange peel. So it’s just the sandwich.

But just a PB&J wouldn’t be anything special, not when you have to top eating… three different kinds of fruits mixed together! So you inspect your surroundings.

Up near the front of the cafeteria there was a little picnic table with whatever you’d need as a topping or condiment. Large pump bottles of ketchup, mustard, and ranch dressing plus a few other things. Ah yes. This is it.

You turn back to your classmates and shout “I CAN DO BETTER THAN THAT!” Feeling like you were about to get some ABSOLUTE WORSHIP from these other 8 year olds.

So you walk up with your tray in hand, the anticipating chattering behind you, and start going to fucking town on this condiment table. Two pumps of ketchup, mustard, ranch, mixed with two mini packets of salt and pepper before you go back to sit down. It wasn’t much, but that’s all you had.

You get back to your seat and sit back down, only to realize you had nothing to eat your condiment mix *with*. Because obviously you can’t just go face first into a mix of random shit on condiment table. You have to take it one step further.

So, inspecting your tray while dozens of children are egging you on to start eating this mildly gross mix, you return to your PB&J. Of course you don’t want to ruin your entire perfectly good sandwich with your layered mix. Did I forget to mention that you didn’t mix this? This is just layer upon layer of random condiments.

You rip off the crusts of your sandwich, figuring that that’s the worst part anyway so why not care that it’s ruined? But plain bread crusts aren’t bad enough of a dipper, so you make sure to get extra peanut butter and jelly on your crust of choice and hold it up for your table of onlookers to see.

They bang the table in unison and as they chant “EAT! EAT! EAT!” With a few boys wretching seeing the shit you were about eat for absolutely no gain whatsoever.

You dip. And you eat.

It’s sour and savory and way too salty and you realize that you hated mustard and it’s sticking to the top of your mouth and you taste all of it mixed together and separately at the same time and the crust is kind of stale so it’s not doing any favors. You manage to swallow it for about two seconds before running to the bathroom to puke.

But damn that minute of people cheering for you felt like fucking crack.

Ok yeah maybe it’s not *the worst* thing anyone’s ever had to eat. And I’d probably eat it over having to drink Delcym ever again.

Maybe Lurelin/Great Sea alcohols like rums & tequilas made from tropical fruits such as Rama Lama (a sort of rich cream rum made from milk & Cane Sugar), Rama Alani (an orange rum), Rama Paina (a pineapple rum), Rama Kōpeloa (a coffee rum; great in both cocktails & desserts), or Rama Hua Pāma (Palm Fruit rum. Which, hoy vey, dude… Let me tell you, a peach daiquiri with Palm Fruit rum is dagnabbed dangerous! You can't even tell it's alcoholic! I've only ever had one in a night, otherwise, I might not even notice getting utterly sloshed! Like, I'm being legit here, rn! Be careful!)

Though, Lurelin isn't the only source of Faronic delights. Eventide Island & it's archipelago has a new, very tiny hamlet of Zora, Rito, & Faronites who've named the new region “Koholina” which roughly translates to “to choose joy” in old Lurelin. Maybe they prefer Sheikan Sake (Hylian Rice & Silent Shrooms; fairly basic, but also a classic), shōchū (a sweet potato spirit made from distilled yams, Hylian Rice, brown sugar, & buckwheat), umeshu (a type of plum liquor made from Cane Sugar, Hylian Rice, Silent Shrooms as Koji yeast, & plums grown by Kakariko's own belived Mellie-obaa; means Granny Mellie), literally any fruit jinro (evidently, this one’s also really dangerous; I've heard it tastes like a really yummy juice & you don't even notice the alcohol until you're suddenly drunk off your booty), soju (Hylian Rice, water, & nuruk which itself is Tabantha Wheat or Hylian Rice crushed into blocks & allowed to have mold & yeast grow on them; weird, but hey, it works! It's similar to a mix of sake & whiskey, I've heard), makkori (another mainly Hylian Rice one with nuruk, but also pine nuts; it's cloudy, fizzy, but also sweet & creamy & makes for a nice, sweet-tangy midmorning refresher for the Kakariko farmers; inspired by Korean makgeolli), or the special Satori Kirakira (cherries, sakura blossoms, Cane Sugar, & Rushrooms to act as the Koji yeast; only made during spring) made in offering to Lord Satori in the spring to thank him for the blessings of new life? Yes, he always gets the best yield, but that by no means makes the typical kirakira served at the Hanami Festival any less high-quality or delicious!

Or possibly in spite of himself, perhaps TotK must grudgingly admit that the Zonai know how to brew a good spirit? Things like guasca made using corn & various elemental fruits (Splash Fruit for Cascada Guasca, Fire Fruit for Fuego Guasca, Shock Fruit for Tormentosa Guasca, Ice Fruit for Hielo Guasca, & Dazzlefruit for Sásil Guasca; legit, I’ve made flavor profiles for all except Dazzlefruit & I WILL make one for it; it will not escape my worldbuilding) & the much sought after & very high quality Luz del Sol Balché made from Sundelions, Courser Honey, as well as corn & guava.

And, just to give a good idea of how they taste (in my hc, keep that in mind).

Fire Fruit (Scorching) = Tastes sweet, yet tart & tangy, but also a bit spicy. Has a flavor reminiscent of mandarin oranges, tomatoes, & cherries. Its juice is on fire sort of like napalm. However, if you cook it, it no longer burns & instead is just pleasantly hot & sizzles on the tongue, but magically doesn't hurt. Think a nice hot bath after you've adjusted to the heat.

Ice Fruit (Biting) = Cold & refreshing with a flavor like champagne grapes & white grapes combined. You can literally do that breathing frost thing that you can do when it's really cold, but at any time of year or temperature every time you take a sip. Kids & grown-up children (such as yours truly) love it.

Shock Fruit (Charged) = Super zingy & fizzles on the tongue like Pop Rocks. Tastes like Pepsi Starry or Ghost Citrus. Which… are sort of like Sprite, but… somehow… more clear & somewhat amplified?

Dazzlefruit = No clue just yet, but I WILL figure out one! Don't think you're safe, Dazzlefruit! I WILL return! All I know is that it has a bright flavor. Which, yes, I'm aware. Hardy har har.

Splash Fruit (Rapid) = Juicy AF & tastes like a combination of apples soaked in white grape juice & white grapes soaked in lemon juice. You will get soaked if you just bite into one.

Sundelion (Sunny) = I hc it as the Hyrule equivalent of vanilla…

(No opinions necessary on the flavors of the fruits. This was just for “flavor.”)

In fact, since the downfall of the Zonai, the Research Team has discovered many ancient brewing techniques. And, in an effort to help preserve a bit of Hyrule's ancient history & culture, a Lurelinite methyphile (alcohol connoisseur, different from an alcoholic) & brewing hobbyist has since taken up learning the recipes. It's been quite successful!

Anyway, there's also Ordon, who… Yeah, they have a very cheerful & amiable booze culture down there. Jolly lot! But, yes! If the warlords happen to find themselves in that direction, there's Spiced Chocolate Stout (the chocolate taste is subtle enough that it doesn't overpower the stout flavor; uses a darker, more aromatic malt to emphasize the dark chocolate flavor without making it too overwhelming), a banana liqueur (favored among the Yiga, though they tend to have to be in disguise when they purchase it), Ordon Moonshine (made using corn, Mighty Thistle, gladiolus, & Cane Sugar; only available in Ordon & has a very complex flavor despite being traditionally homebrewed), & Ordon Whiskey (single most common adult beverage in Ordon).

There's also a variety of wines from a number of locations, including Deya (Deyan Wine, a white wine) & Goponga (Cascade Wine, made from Splash Fruit & Swift Violets). Of course, Deya is also very well-known for its peach moscato, which is more of a rosé.

Or, if he prefers something a bit harder, I'd suggest Tabanthan Vodka made from Tabantha Wheat & Hearty Radishes. Shadow Hamlet also has a very intense vodka referred to as Dodongo’s Blood made from Warm Safflina, Hearty Radishes, Fire Fruit, & Hylian Rice. That stuff is STRONG &, buddy, does it burn! Like, whoo! Talk about puttin’ hair on yer chest! XD

You ain't careful, it'll knock your butt right out! Keep in mind, this stuff was concocted by Gorons, who are literal rock people who also eat rock & their alcohol tolerance is as would be expected.

They can & will drink you under the table, so be warned!

Fun Fact: I do not drink. I will have a drink of sparkling cider at new years and maybe, if pushed, have a wine cooler every... eh... once a year? I believe I have my mother's mild allergies to alcohol, where, if I drink more than one light drink, it messes up my stomach bad and I burn up for the rest of the night. In all actuality, I just do not like drinking alcohol much. Don't like the feeling like I'm losing control of myself.

I'm more of a 420 smoker if I want to relax in a recreational way, lmao. If I DO drink a small drink, I don't like tasting my alcohol. I like really fruity drinks.

There's Raspberry tea, black berry tea, apple tea, green tea, orange tea, grape tea, blueberry tea, mango tea, dragon fruit tea, pineapple tea, coconut tea, lemon tea, and the other tea is just different mixed flavors of the ones I already named

Redneck Brewing #34 (I think): Banana Tropical Smoothie Wine

Just got another batch of "sounds interesting and pretty cheap to make" grocery store wine going. This time taking advantage of the remaining yeast layer from that batch of Cran-Lingonberry Pineapple stuff. (Which turned out looking and tasting more like pineapple, mixing them half and half.) Didn't seem like the little remnants of that batch should actually have much effect on the taste of this one.

Those labels should be easy enough for English speakers to decipher: a fairly thick smoothie-like juice concoction that's pretty heavy on the banana, mango, and passionfruit pulp in a mostly apple juice base. Plus some generic "no pulp" (because that's what they had) tropical juice blend which has less banana, but also some pineapple and orange in the mix.

The results were better than I expected with that other similar tropical blend juice, and I know a lot of people really like to use banana in wines and meads though I have yet to try it. So, I saw that smoothie thing with the smaller bottles on sale (this 1L was actually full price but still less per volume unit than the sale bottles), and thought I may as well give this mix a try. Worst case, it's a waste of under $4 worth of juice and a little sugar. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I let the juice come up at least to room temperature before mixing this up. But, it can have a little extra warmth from that old trusty kitchen radiator tonight to hopefully help it kick off. (Again, it doesn't get over 25C/77F up there.)

With all that fruit pulp in there, I fully expect it to foam up like crazy, and lose a lot to sediment in the end. But, it should hopefully make for better flavor.
