So, today I was scrolling through Instagram and came across with this Dean Fujioka's story:

The art style was oddly familiar so I did a quick research and yes, it's Kubo's art style! Seems like it's a show created in 2012 and recently had another function (for most I could understand on those japanese blogs and # on twitter). I also found what it looks like an interview from 2023 (not quite sure if it's actually an interview, sorry!), here's the link if someone wants to translate it or take a look at it:

i don't know how many people here on tumblr have seen this thread on twitter/x, where leaks from someone who claimed to be in a position to know about ice adolescence and what had happened to it several years ago were finally made public today, but since all we've been given from MAPPA is that the movie was cancelled due to "various circumstances" and no one else associated with it has given us any concrete info, i'm personally choosing to believe this leaker. their stated reasoning of the movie being left to die because of "LGBT issues" and concerns about chinese/russian distribution sadly lines up all too well with the fact that this always, always happens to queer media. whenever it seems like progress is being made, with creators fighting to get beautiful queer stories told, the people in power do everything they can to ruin it and the world just feels like it goes backwards. if what's being said in this thread is true (and really, even if it isn't and there's actually a completely different reason that iceado was canned) then i feel heartbroken for sayo yamamoto, mitsuro kubo, and everyone else who fought for viktor and yuuri's story to be told and who tried their hardest to get this movie made. they deserved so much better than for this to happen.

-- The last episode of Yuri!!! on ICE has finally aired - please tell us what kind of show Yuri!!! was for you? Also, working as a music producer for the show, have you challenged yourself with trying something new?

Tominaga: The whole series, the way it was created by Kubo Mitsurou and Yamamoto Sayo is just like a collection of beautiful 'lyrics' and the role of music was to create a melody for those lyrics. In a sense, it felt as if we were producing a ballet or a musical. I was also responsible for track selection from the music that was created, and I also participated in the work that was being done in the mixing studio and that was a first time challenge for me. I'm very glad that we could implement what we have visualized, the ideas that we had come up with at the music production stage directly into the process of creating an audio for a show.

-- If there was something particularly memorable to you, among the things that you've heard when discussing the music production with Director Yamamoto or Kubo Mitsuro-san, or the choreographer, Miyamoto Kenji-san, please share with us!

Tominaga: The phrase 'his clean sex appeal is violence', which I've heard in the beginning as describing Yuuri's image, left a strong impression on me. I've never thought that a 'clean sex-appeal' can be described as 'violence' myself, but at the same time, it's such a powerful expression, that somehow made sense to me. The unusual combination and balance of these three words made me anticipate an extremely volatile show, in which 'instincts' play a major role.

Exclusively sold at the April event, the clear files split up the characters in the main visual (Seen in the sixth photo above). Nishigori even makes a rare appearance as his seiyuu, Fukuyama Jun, attended the event!

The brochure is really beautiful, with interviews and great photo sets of all the male seiyuu other than Hosoya Yoshimasa (Otabek) and Miyano Mamoru (JJ), who did not attend the event. I mainly took shots of the main trio (Toyonaga Toshiyuki, Uchiyama Kouki, Suwabe Junichi) and Kubo’s pages for this post, but I also wanted to highlight Hatano Wataru (Georgi)’s page, because as the YOI ED singer as well, his photos and autograph are all quite funny XD

Part 10.

When I was watching the finished anime, I felt that the lines that the characters say are very punchy in classic Kubo-san's style, isn't that right?

Kubo: When I went to see Japanese Nationals for the first time with the Director, I don't remember the context, but I said that: "Figure skating is very lyrical!", and the Director answered: "It is, isn't it" (laugh). Basically, I thought that in figure skating, it's important what a skater says in their heart, when they're performing.

Yamamoto: For me, it's a very important point - whether the scenario has a good punchlines or not. And in Kubo-san's storyboards, the punchlines are plenty. In everyday conversations she's like that too - she really doesn't hesitate to firmly say how she interprets things, so the lines she writes are very memorable.

Kubo: From the very beginning, I thought that the part of the screenplay that I can give my best at are the lines the characters speak. What's more, this time, the screenplay was created in a form of manga storyboards, so I wanted to make people want to turn the page. I thought that it's necessary to somehow make people think: "I want to read the next page", when they're turning a page. In the end, I have drawn around 1000 pages of storyboards, so I was wondering, what I have to do to make somebody want to turn a page 500 times. From the Director, I've heard that in case of TV anime, it's important to make people not want to change the channel, so it's important to create a lot of little details that catch the viewers' attention, and I thought that: ah, in this regard, it's the same [as manga]. I think that it was nice, that I could make a good use of the manga techniques I've accumulated so far [in my work on Yuri!!!].

And the last thing, production of a movie was announced - what the story you are going to show is like?

Yamamoto: We are not going to reveal the content of the movie!

Kubo: We're not going to reveal that (laugh). Or should I say - if we revealed even a little bit of the story and let people fantasize what it is going to be like, it would be very unfair, or in other words: it would be dishonest on our, the creators, part. We want to make a movie that would make people think: "So this is what they wanted to do!", when they actually see it.

Yamamoto: Yes, and that's why we plan to not reveal the story to anyone, until the very last minute.

Kubo: But we want to make a movie that would hit you right on the head! [In otaku language, it's a positive thing!]

Yamamoto: Yes, death and ascension into heaven [awaits you]. [That's also otaku language!]

Kubo: When I watched Yurio's EX that was added as bonus to the DVD, I also felt as if somebody hit me on the head - I got so excited (laugh). As expected, Yamamoto-director is just incredible! So I thought that yes, really it's necessary to make you audience experience that ["hit on the head" feeling].

Yamamoto: Nooo, but it was really fun - Yurio's EX (laugh). I really hope I will be able to create the continuation in the same way: while having fun.
