You know what’s bad for your early onset arthritis?
A million frickin quarter square triangles, cause you had a layer cake and access to YouTube. Damn it, Missouri Star Quilt company! I really need one of those electric cutters they use at Joann’s.

Fabric, fabric, where to buy your fabric
With the likely closure of JoAnn Fabrics by March (they've filed for Chapter 11 again and so far the bidder looks to be the group that bought Big Lots), a lot of people are wondering where to get their apparel fabric and supplies.
Before I go any further, if you're feeling really sad about the likely closure of a place you always shopped, that's perfectly fine. I'm recommending what I do only because I haven't had even a JoAnn's close enough to make the drive worth it in years.
All of the fabric stores I'm recommending sell swatches, which are the secret to sewing when you don't have a local fabric store.
Don't shop at stores that won't send you swatches if you can manage it. Personally, I've had too many disappointments to go through it again. The discount may have been amazing, but the color was wrong or the fabric wasn't the right weight.
What I do:
1. Go through a store's catalog and mark favorites. Yes, you need to make an account to do it, but that usually nets you a coupon off your first order. Stonemountain let me use that coupon on swatches.
1a. Make a note of their free shipping threshold, if they have one.
2. Put together a cart of swatches. Consider what you might like to make for the coming year and in what type of fabric while selecting things.
3. Look at the total, factor in shipping, and save half of them for later. :) (this step is optional, but recommended).
4. Buy your swatches and spend the next few days like the pakidge? meme. Receive them and rejoice.
5. Consider the colors you ordered. Do you like how that fabric feels on your skin? How does it drape after washing it? Will it need special care? Do any of the colors make you look like you're sickening for something?
6. Make final selections for the coming season. Place a bulk order, meeting the fabric store's free shipping threshold (if applicable and workable in your budget). This works a lot better than ordering only enough fabric for one project at a time, if your budget allows.
6a. Complain bitterly that there are no local fabric stores where you can just go and play with the fabrics. Consider chucking your career and opening one.
7. Spend several days like the pakidge? meme again. Receive your fabric, rejoice, and then spend hours washing, drying, and ironing it before you put it away, ready to be sewn.
Notions and supplies
Wawak is honestly one of the best places for sewing notions and supplies. Their prices are good and their shipping is reasonably fast.
Apparel fabric
Stonemountain and Daughter
Has a good selection and they're pretty generous with the coupons and sales. They aren't the least expensive, but they sell good quality apparel fabric.
Minerva
Yes, they're in the UK, but even with the currency conversion most of their core range fabrics are a decent price. Their shipping is also really reasonable.
Vogue Fabric
They have an excellent selection at reasonable prices. If you need mockup fabric, their muslin is well-priced.
Dharma Trading Company
If you're at all interested in dyeing your own fabric, Dharma is the place. They have a wide array of dyeable fabric in so many different fibers and weaves. Their shipping is, admittedly, a bit pricey if you're on the east coast, but the quality is good.
I do not recommend Missouri Star Quilt Company or Robert Kaufman Fabrics any longer. MSQ bought a large stake of RKF a few months ago as the company was failing. The owners of MSQ are devout Mormons who tithe to the church and go on missions. While I absolutely support religious freedom, I don't want my money, even indirectly, going to support any religious organization that works against the interests of the LGBTQ community. This is also why I will never shop at Hobby Lobby.

So Webs has been acquired by Missouri Star.
Missouri Star is an LDS company that has done such lovely things as have a Juneteenth sale where only white cotton was on sale.
Not a company to support to say the least.

FINALLY. I can share these beautiful quilts that I made for friends as Christmas presents this past year. These are only the tops themselves, as I forgot to take finished product pics, but they are wonderful all the same!
First up we got spacey stars on galaxy background:
Purple and Green floral prints with goose tracks pattern (this one had borders but again, I forgot to take pics of it):
Next are some classic 1930's reprints:
This pink and blue quilt:
And finally this carpenter's star using Kaffe colors:
I also had my mom help embroider a little logo on the back of each quilt and I had tons of fun doing this project.
I used (and for some did my own variation of) the Missouri Star Quilt Company's tutorials for each of these quilts. Those ladies really know their stuff! It will be a long, LONG time before I try doing so many of them at once though lol!
My friends told me that they all love their quilts, one of which almost fell asleep under it during the party, which made me a little teary eyed in a happy way
#quilting#quilt tops#I'm gonna make some more posts detailing the other projects I worked on last year as well I just wanted the Christmas gifts to be together#quilt#my quilts

Hi! If I may inquire, how did you find about that quilt magazine? I have a teacher who is very much into crochet, and she loves magazines as a pattern source, and id love to know if the place where you get that magazine from has any sort of similar project for other crafts
Independent of subscriptions:
For subscriptions:
Check out your local library too. I can access books and magazines through the Libby app by using my library card.
Bookstores also sell quilt magazines, independent issues with subscription cards inside, and used bookstores have old quilt magazines as an option.
Missouri Star has its own magazine as well.
I bought a stack of issues in a grab bag deal in December. A total of 70 issues for $70. I gave the repeats to friends and family.
This is a personal favorite:
The website has all sorts of goodies and thousands of free patterns.
At the top of my blog are links to free quilt patterns as well. Share those with your teacher for some delight.

Your order has shipped
I love ordering from MSQC. Whatever they’re smoking, I want some:
Thanks for your order at the Missouri Star Quilt Company! In the magical kingdom of Missouri Star Quilt Co, a special delivery is about to take place. There have been rumors of a chosen quilter who would make an order so grand, so magnificent, that the entire realm would gather in celebration! That time has finally come! That quilter is you. The clouds have parted and the sun is shining down in a glorious beam of light on your order. It glints and sparkles like a precious stone in the hand of a trusted palace messenger who takes it straight to the queen. He bows deeply and places the order in the white-gloved hand of Queen Stitchalot herself. She looks astonished. Has the time really come? Yes, it has, my queen. Then off we go! The Queen hops lightly onto the back of a white-winged pegasus and rides it across a rainbow to the shipping department, where all your dreams will finally come true! Playful woodland creatures fill this extraordinary package with their deft paws and the youngest fawn tucks in the packing slip with her velvety nose. The package is then sealed with the royal insignia and brought to the great hall where the celebration feast begins! All day and into the night the banquet tables are continually supplied with the finest fruits of the land. Then the dancing commences! The room is a blur of gentlemen in tailcoats and ladies in full skirts. When the clock finally strikes midnight, three fairies arrive and place a charm of protection on the package with their exquisite golden wands. Suddenly, with a loud crack and a poof of silvery smoke, a wizard appears. Twelve footmen in sky blue breeches escort the package over to him. He takes the gilded box under his cloak, raises his staff and disappears once more! He’s off on his quest to deliver your package! Before you know it, you’ll find it nestled on your doorstep, waiting for you to open it up and discover the treasures inside! *Note the above is a slight dramatization of what actually happened with your order, but seriously we did ship it, and here is the tracking info...

Some of my favorite layer cakes that I’ve found on the Missouri Star Quilt Company’s Website
I think my favorite has to be the top right, the Strawberries and Cream Single Scoop layer cake by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts for Andover Fabric
