Just finished watching the first ep of mission yozakura and it was a good adaptation! There was nothing they did to make it better or worse and it looks like theyre going to be faithful, for whoch im happy.

Also they nailed kyoichirous creepiness

some stories are so tightly written that you don't need to expand upon anything because they've already plugged every hole. some stories are so loosely written that they're unable to hold anything substantial in place and are about as interesting to poke as a glob of jelly. and in that sweet spot between airtight and jellyboned, when stories have lots of interesting characters and ideas but don't utilize them to the fullest, when thoughts are half-finished and sometimes contradictory, when they try to fit all the cool ideas into a coherent story and end up leave messy plot threads and broken pieces with jagged edges strewn about the floor, when even the creators throw up their hands and say "hell if i know" to over half the questions asked - those are the sort of stories that spawn the most beautiful fandom ecosystems.

Yozakura Family wins "finally explaining that part"

(before we knew this, the timeline dictated that Mutsumi got pregnant basically the day after everyone left)

Taiyo and Mutsumi's relationship is genuinely really nice. I hope we can get more married couples in Shonen someday

Kagurabachi wins "yaoi moment"

Kuguri is also very yaoiful but this is a more meaningful yaoi

Sakamoto Days wins "best mob characters"

This would've gone to the "diversity win" couple from YozaFam, but these old shopkeepers are a delight

Undead Unluck wins "wrap it up"

God, I wish these guys got to talk to everyone more. I wish there were still some UMA kicking around besides Soul.

I wish there was more time.

Desscaras wins the Desscaras Award for Excellence in Desscaras

No, but genuinely, Desscaras is fucking incredible. A Shonen story where the overpowered mentor is a black woman who gets to act like this? She's strong as fuck, she knows it, and she serves. I need this manga to succeed just so that Desscaras can hit mainstream acclaim, because she is the character of all time

Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi wins "every higher-up in this series is a weirdo"

90% of exorcists are kinda mean and I love it

Not sure what this is winning, but this is the most emblematic spread of this chapter.

I do like that we have 1 character who's just actively going after Tenichi.

Akane-Banashi wins "best side character spotlight"

Scruffy's been there for a while, and I'm glad it's through his eyes we get to see this new world. Good for you, Scruffy.

Maybe one of these days I'll know your name.

😭 y’all the way I started crying once they had Mutsumi mom give the video speech.. it’s giving Violet evergarden episode 10 and I’m always weak for the trope when a character sends a message into the future and another character can’t reply to it.

Mutsumi’s mother can rest in peace knowing her daughter has the best possible husband though. Great finale to the first season of one of the best new gen series. I hate this didn’t get more attention, what a fun ride.

Kawashita got off way too easy for my liking after everything he did to all the test subjects over the years, but I guess him rotting in prison and living with his failure is decent. What’s cool about that final fight is that again it wasn’t Taiyo overpowering someone, but being quick on his feet and using the skills he’s learnt over the season to target Kawashita’s power source aka the former Yozakura head, and take him out without incident. This season was really all about him becoming a proper spy and he and Mutsumi becoming a true married couple and this ending satisfied both of those!

We finally got the wedding and it was wonderful! Like I said the video tribute got me in the feels, but actually shed a tear when the ED started playing with Taiyo taking Mutsumi’s hand. 😭 Love them so much, they were a joy watch all season and it really feels like we saw them grow up before our eyes. One of my fave shonen ships! But marriage is just the first step, really excited for season 2 and where this story goes next with Tanpopo seemingly done, is that dad really gone? Who’s the next big bad? Lot more questions and I can’t wait to see em answered!
