Caleb: [startled] Jesus Christ!

Vlad: [wryly] Guess again. I couldn’t help noticing you’ve acquired a new… houseguest. That girl is freshly turned. She has all the grace of a newborn colt. Your sister’s latest plaything, I presume?

Caleb: How many times have I told you I’m not interested in indulging your desire for gossip? Anyone with a modicum of social grace would have taken the hint by now.

Vlad: [continues, unruffled] The curious thing is I’ve seen her before, the girl, at your insipid little gathering of hedonists in the spring. Her cheeks were much rosier then, as I recall. I’m surprised Lilith offered her the dark gift so soon — or at all. Does she not expect to grow bored of this one? Or, I wonder, did something not go precisely according to plan?

Caleb: [defensively] Lilith didn’t turn her. She nearly killed her. I did it to save her life.

Vlad: [amused] Always the humanitarian, you — though it is strange you would choose to burden another with an existence you clearly detest. But I must admit I’m impressed. I wasn’t sure you had it in you. Frankly, I rather thought you’d be dead or driven to madness by now. [sighs stagily] At any rate, I wish you luck. If you’re hoping to raise her in your image, you’ll need it. I can’t imagine Lilith will surrender her easily. Alas, I must go. There are other matters-

Veronica: [snarls aggressively]

Caleb: Who are you?

Vlad: Manners, darling.

Veronica: Sorry, Uncle Vlad. My dinner almost got away from me.

Vlad: [strangely paternalistic] Isn’t she a marvel?

Caleb: Uncle Vlad?

Vlad: This is my niece, Veronica. Well, cousin several times removed, but that’s such a mouthful. I’ve been trying to introduce her for some time.

Caleb: I must have mistaken that for your usual garden variety creeping.

Vlad: We have a common ancestor in my maker, though the bloodlines diverged centuries ago and hers was thought to be quite diluted. You see, after generations of tamping down their vampiric nature, their powers had largely grown dormant. But Veronica is special. She tells me her dreams led her to me. Can you believe it? [chuckles] I haven’t dreamed since I was mortal. At any rate, I’ve taken her under my wing. I have much to teach her, and she is an eager pupil.

Caleb: Good… for you.

Today on reasons why Hiruzen was a shit hokage: he should’ve known. He should’ve KNOWN that the Land of Waves was too tough of a mission for a rookie team as soon as the papers hit his desk. A minor nation right near the Hidden Mist Village, a place known for their brutal shinobi, trying to build themselves new prosperity beyond the Mist’s shadow? Completely disregarding any other non-shinobi politics the kages might’ve been aware of (like Gato and his chokehold on Waves), the mission should’ve been treated as an A or B from the very beginning. Team 7 should’ve never even Heard about it

Having been too focused on fiddling with the key to her apartment that was being temperamental yet again, the blonde nearly jumped but settled for immediately straightening up at the sound of someone speaking beside her. Head turning in his direction, her eyes followed up to find a very unexpected surprise. Not only was he of a quite the large build compared to her own, but his face definitely had striking features that matched that of a shark.

. However, that wasn't really what had taken her aback, what was really surprising to her was the fact he was talking to her. As much as she had done her best to quietly and carefully assimilate herself into the village since she was staying there for the time being, she hadn't quite set up the rapport with the locals that she had hoped. At least not in the area she was staying at, most tended to keep themselves here which made her intel job a bit harder.

The blonde quickly bowed her head before smiling at him as she ceased fiddling with her door's lock, "Oh, hi, heh. Sorry, I was so distracted with this lock that I got a bit startled by your voice. I did notice someone was moving in but I've learned not to pry---I'm Ino, by the way--- and you are?"

You know I was mostly joking about letting Conner rip his shirt in Mission 5 for old times sake but now I have a mental image where, after Conner walks back into the Gorilla settlement with his shirt torn, little toddler-gorilla Simeon offers him a random scrap of fabric to “help fix it”, and Conner just takes the whole shirt off and gives it to him.

"Nagi," Mukuro called out to her from in their illusion world. It was one of the only places they both felt safe. "How has Sawada been treating you?" (from Mukuro from my inbox call)

Chrome decided to put herself on autopilot once Mukuro called to her.  One-half of her consciousness was walking with Chikusa and Ken back to headquarters.  The other is within the grassy meadows.  In the recesses of her mind, she wore a white dress differentiating from the military look she is often clad in.  She always wondered why that was, but perhaps it was because she was always one foot in the spirit world and the living world.

“Mukuro-sama has called,” Chrome said to Chikusa and Ken.  “Please walk a little slower.”  As she hugged her bag to herself.

“M.M. will get mad we’re keeping her waiting,” Ken piped up.

“Mukuro-sama has called,” Chrome merely repeated herself.  Firmly.

Inside the dreamscape, she called out to Mukuro.  Only to spot him in his usual place, sitting on the highest hill overlooking the meadow.  There were puffy clouds in the sky.  She followed his voice and took a seat next to him, while her consciousness kept walking with Chikusa and Ken.

“Sawada-kun has been treating me fair.  Ken-kun and Chikusa-kun have been treating me well too.  It is me who has grown a fondness for sweets rather than steady meals,” she said.  “Do you need Chikusa-kun’s and Ken-kun’s help?  M.M.-san has arrived earlier than she originally intended.”

I'm DMing Abomination Vaults right now, and honestly... if only the rest of the Roseguard were as competent and badass as Otari.

Oh, and if only they actually cleared the rubble to try and retrieve his body. Then they would have discovered the Vaults underneath. (And maybe Otari would have survived, js.)
