stede has always been a bit of a fussy sleeper so it’s not uncommon for him to roll out of bed in the middle of the night to pee but the problem with doing this in a bed that’s got an ed is it leaves 1.) a cold spot in ed’s arms where stede used to be and 2.) a warm spot in the bedclothes where stede used to be. so when stede comes back to bed there is an ed taking up all possible mattress space and hugging the pillow that had stede’s head on it 10 mins ago. now in the days when he would climb back into bed with mary he would do his best to preserve some polite space in between them so his first instinct here is always to perch on the edge of the mattress and hope for the best. but what he’s learned is not only does ed not mind getting aggressively snuggled into but also without even waking up he will wrap his arms around stede as soon as he’s within hugging distance
