SPOILERS!!! REFERENCES AND EASTER EGGS IN F&C ep. 9: CASPER & NOVA (1 of 2)
I hit the image limit so this post will be in two parts.
These last two episodes feature traditional Adventure Time title cards with intro credits, which is something the others haven't had.
There is a butterfly floating above Fionna when she enters the "Land of Ooo". The same thing happened to Cake when she entered Ooo, and to Simon later on, but this butterfly doesn't have a face on it like those. This is our first hint that something is wrong.
The Betty statue in the background of this shot is on top of a four-faceted object that sort of resembles Glob's helmet; an item that she used to gain her magic powers in You Forgot Your Floaties. Also in this shot are several gnome fairies from The Enchiridion and Billy's Bucket List, and of course Mrs Cupcake and genderswapped Chocoberry. Mrs Cupcake has appeared before but I think Chocoberry is a new design for this episode.
This is our first and only look at what Hunter Wizard would look like. Mostly the same as his main universe counterpart.
This species of dragon first appeared in Memories of Boom Boom Mountain and has been in several subsequent episodes. I'm not sure who the giant cyclops is. It could be a genderswap of the cyclops from Another Way, or perhaps the rock giant from Five More Short Graybles.
Lots of the text in this scene is hostile. There is this sign behind the counter, of course, but lots of the books on the shelf also have violent names.
This series loves giving us extremely fucked up Simons.
This background character looks like Phlannel Boxingday. It would be hilarious if that was the case, considering he is widely assumed to have been a disguise of Princess Bubblegum rather than his own character.
This might be genderswapped Tiffany. She's wearing Tiffany's pink shirt under her jacket. Maybe she has a masculine name in this universe.
We get a better look at the newspaper from the first episode, featuring Betty. It also features the fake butterfly from the dream which feels like a bad omen.
Marshall Lee's t-shirt features the cake pop from Princess Bubblegum's rock shirt, first seen in What Was Missing.
The Lich first mentioned being a Scholar of GOLB in the episode Whispers. In this episode it is confirmed that he has been working towards his goals in GOLB's name. But it doesn't seem like he's actually had any line of communication with GOLB this whole time. GOLB doesn't seem to appreciate The Lich's efforts to wipe out all life; and now that GOLB is fused with Betty, they certainly don't.
The Lich rips off Billy's skin to reveal his skeletal form, which is the same as it was in Escape from the Citadel, complete with the metal plate on his ribcage.
GOLBetty turns the Lich into a tetronimo, implying that all of the tetronimoes surrounding them were once powerful beings who defied GOLB; perhaps they are even all alternate versions of The Lich.
Shermy and Beth! This episode incorporates a lot of the extra lore that writer Steve Wolfhard published shortly after the release of Come Along With Me. It canonises the fact that Shermy and Beth are rebels who oppose the tyrannical rule of Gibbon, who is Charlie's future son from Daddy-Daughter Card Wars. This place is the Pup Kingdom, which is featured in the Come Along With Me title sequence and is a central part of Wolfhard's 1000+ lore.
These are the same kinds of soldiers as seen in Graybles 1000+ when Cuber interrupted the space wedding. In that episode, you only got a very brief glimpse of their jowls. This episode makes it more obvious that they are pups.
All of these pups in the windows are designs from Steve Wolfhard's "Every Pup Has a Power" series of drawings. They once had superpowers, but their powers were extinguished by Gibbon.
This is Jake's favourite mug from the episode Puhoy, and the house in the snowglobe is Tree Trunks' house.
There is a Shermy plush in this pile of junk. There might be some other recognisable stuff in that pile too. I think the popcorn machine is from something but I can't remember what, and the pool toy might be a reference to the Lub Glubs from Beautopia.
This is our best shot of the Pup Kingdom, with its space elevator.
Beth is a revolutionary communist confirmed.
Shermy Simon shouts breadballs, an expletive that he previously used in the episode Simon & Marcy.
The clouds in Fionnaworld are shaped like GOLB blocks while Simon is in the presence of GOLB. We also get a better look at all the glitched out buildings, like that door that leads nowhere.
I think the creature next to Gunter in this advert is a yeti from the show Summer Camp Island, which a bunch of Adventure Time alumni went to work on after the original show ended.
There is a poster for Super Porp, a fizzy grape juice introduced in the episode Dark Purple, along with their mascot Cheryl.
Jake is on these packages in one of the shops.
The Library looks incredible now. In the original show, only the top part with the dome could be seen sticking out of the ground. Either the ground has eroded away to reveal the rest of the structure, or the library has been greatly expanded over time.
Turtle Princess is dead and apparently a robot took over her empty shell and continues to work as a librarian. These are the first gun-books we've seen that also function as actual guns.
These are the pagelings from the episode Paper Pete. They're much larger than they used to be. They don't have many books left to protect these days.
Casper & Nova mention lodging in the seaside town of Scandia on their quest to find the crown. This is a reference to the fact that Simon and Betty found the crown in Scandinavia, as mentioned way back in Holly Jolly Secrets.
I hit the image limit! Link to the second part.

Sims In Bloom: Generation 1 Part 13 (Spooky Day Scandal!)
Holly joined Heather at Sherman Bagley High School and started spending more time with Kristopher Bell, the eldest son of Michael Bell and his wife Cecilia. The young teens had known each other since childhood because their parents were friends, and once they passed puberty, they started to see each other in new ways. It wasn’t long before they were boyfriend and girlfriend, as innocent as such love could be in ninth grade. Their parents were supportive but kept watchful eyes over them. When Heather and Holly wanted to throw a Spooky Day party for their friends, their parents attended as chaperones.
But Heather’s first big party-planning blunder came when she realized she’d forgotten to call it a costume party on the invitations. She thought it was a given since the party was on Spooky Day, but when only her family was dressed for the holiday, she realized she’d made a mistake. She still pulled out the pumpkin carving station and baked spooky-themed sugar cookies for guests to enjoy, but she felt a little silly in head tails and blue body paint as a Twi’lek while her friends were in party dresses.
Everett came with Malia and their younger brother, Kash, and Bob and Annette stopped by to visit Daisy and Neal, but Spencer was on vacation with her family in Selvadorada and couldn’t be there. Heather didn’t mean for anything to happen, but this was the most time she’d spent with Everett since he and Spencer started dating. She’d missed him, and her feelings hadn’t gone away. They danced and she saw him noticing her elaborate costume with its form-fitting tank top.
She invited him outside to stargaze even though the weather was overcast and cloudy, and in the moonlight the moment overtook them. Years of unsaid feelings came out in their kiss – Heather’s first, with anyone. But rather than the twinge of butterflies Holly described from kissing Kris, Heather was immediately filled with guilt. She made an excuse and put herself to bed, but rather than head home, Everett lingered in the village. He couldn’t stop thinking about that kiss.
(NOTE: No, I'm far too much of a noob to have screencapped any of this and yes it is terrible. I have so many regrets.)
Everett loved Spencer. He’d been head over heels for her since they were children, but everything with Heather was just easier – except for Heather’s own inclination to pull back and bury herself in her studies. She was already so driven, while Everett was more than a little afraid to grow up. He turned to his mother’s grave hoping for guidance, drawn to the Holy Book and the scripture of the Watcher to make sense of his feelings. He wanted his life to mean something. He didn’t want to be defined as a cheater. He made his way along the River Bagley, through Old New Henford where Spencer lived with her family, and on to Lord Volpe’s ruins in the Bramblewood to think.
This had always been his favourite place in Henford, and not just because addictive chocoberries grew wild among the broken stones. Said to have been planted by Lord Volpe himself, Henford was the only place in Simlandia where chocoberries were known to grow wild, and this was celebrated at Finchwick Fairs when bakers in town would try to out-do each other with their best chocolate pies. But there were no locals around to pick berries tonight, and Everett could be alone with his thoughts beneath the stars.
He wandered back to the Nesbitt house and found River up late, amped up on too much Spooky Day candy. River clumsily admitted he saw Everett kiss his sister and Everett panicked. He begged him not to say anything, and to protect his sister’s reputation, eleven-year-old River easily agreed. Still, Everett spoke with Heather when she woke up. She’d been so wracked with guilt she slept horribly, and when he asked if she’d ever date him, she sputtered that she’d never want to hurt Spencer or ruin her friendship with him. Everett pushed away his disappointment.
Where would Heather and her crush on Everett go from here? ->

Lily: I missed you today.
Michael: I missed you too. I was gonna come see you earlier but then I was kept busy by Kim having a chocoberry stock crisis in the stall. She came to see if I could trade her some.
Lily: At least we're together now.
It didn't take long before Lily and Michael's lips found each other again.
Michael: I want to take you out... on a proper date... tomorrow? We can go to the restaurant in town.
Lily: A date? I've never actually been on a real date before.
Michael: Seriously? How can somebody like you not have been on tons of dates already?

Going Rounds
Annalise and Penny sat down together. Darion had excused himself to look at his books, a very important task indeed. Rosie tottered after him, curious.
"Well, you're here," Annalise said.
"Yeah, far as I can tell," Penny said.
"I hear you've brough some carnival food tonight?"
"It's a taco casserole and a chocoberry pie. I have a toddler. She's picky. I grew most of the ingredients myself, so....you know....no.....no GMOs or anything..." Penny was starting to wilt under her mother's gaze.
"First the burgers, now a casserole. I don't think it's for your toddler, Penelope."
Penny thought about taking the bait. She considered snapping at her mother, falling back into the same patterns. Instead, she took a deep breath.
"How are you doing, Mom?"
"Oh, I'm fine. My daughter ran away a few years ago with my granddaughter, so I've just had all this free time."
Penny sighed. "Mom, can we just not? Look, I have some really cute photos of Rosie you might like. See?"
"You took that little girl and left us! After everything we did for you!"
"And after you tried to take my kid from me. Let's maybe not leave that out."
"You were a child."
"We've had this fight, maybe change the record."
"No, I will say my piece and you will hear it, Penelope! You owe it to me after all these years, after disappearing into the wilderness on me!"
Penny didn't really hear much of what her Mother was saying. It blended into the same screeching disappointment that was her upbringing. Why was she here? They hadn't changed. Nothing was different. She'd wasted her time coming here.
I am going to smoke the fattest bowl when Rosie is asleep, she thought. I am never leaving the valley again.
"And despite all of that, I'm happy that you're here," Annalise said.
Penny snapped back to attention. "Excuse me?"
"I missed you. A lot." Annalise fiddled with the hem on her skirt. "I've missed my daughter. I wish you would have at least called more."
"I....I'm sorry, Mom."
"It's fine. You'll do better."
"I will."
"Now, I believe it is time for dinner."
"You're going to like it, Mom."
Annalise covered her face. "I will eat exactly three bites before I have it removed."

CIRCUS OF LOVE ♡: “IT'S ALL BAJI'S FAULT >:(”
masterlist | previously | next chapter
yes, koko was being purposely ignored, it's always been like that with you three. no, inui doesn't mind about the whole "you bailed him on your date" thing, he was just trying to tell koko how much that he missed.
chifuyu may not be your number one fan (since the place is taken by baji) but he is your goodies' number one fan.
mikey was only trying to reduce the awkwardness in the room and it worked. although he might need a reminder that both of you are still strangers.

We’re over the moooon because it’s finally time to reveal The Sims™ 4 Cottage Living Expansion Pack*! You’re in for an udderly delightful experience in the small countryside town of Henford-on-Bagley, where animals and gardening are all the rage. The best news? This golden egg hatches on July 22!
Join us as we go down the rabbit hole into all the legendairy details ahead!
It’s a Quiet Village
There’s way more to this provincial life than you might expect. It’s a small town, but the Sims who live here have plenty to flap their lips about. Have a Henford heart-to-heart with the pub owners at The Gnome’s Arms or the Sim running the grocery stall for some wild stories and gossip. If you’re feeling brave, you might even approach the Crumplebottoms’ garden booth for some advice. (Just remember: Agatha is the friendly one, Agnes is the grumpy one, but they both love crumpets.) Sometimes the locals need a bit of help, too. If you’re up for it, running a few errands for them might yield some interesting presents.
Every week, the Finchwick Fair blows through the village, attracting all sorts of Sims. The mayor judges the rotating competition entries—from pies to vegetables to chickens—and the rest of the villagers love to join in.
DO Have a Cow
Yes, that’s right: cows, llamas, chickens, bunnies, and foxes all live alongside Sims in this idyllic new world. Befriend wild rabbits, foxes, and birds for gifts and help in your garden, or focus your love and attention on the friends in the animal sheds and chicken coops at home. Or both! The more animals, the better.
Sims with the Animal Enthusiast Trait especially love taking care of critters. Your relationship with each animal impacts how they respond to you, and treats can help you gain their favor. Different animal treats and moods even produce different results! Change the flavor of your cow’s milk, the color of your llama’s wool, or even the appearance of your chickens with specific goodies. (You’ll need to find some chocoberries out in the wild or add them to your grocery delivery order to get chocolate milk.)
Plant Some Roots
And some vegetables, obviously! Thanks to the new gardening patches, folks are overexcited for oversized crops. Fill plots with giant watermelons, aubergines, pumpkins, mushrooms, and lettuce to really wow the neighbors. Get the kids out there with you and teach them how to care for those huge plants, too. When they’re fully grown (the veggies, not the kids), enter them into the Finchwick Fair or just collect a good harvest for healthy meals.
The Simple Living Lot Challenge makes cooking cheaper, but it also means recipes depend entirely on what you’ve got in your inventory. Forage in the nearby woods for mushrooms and berries, borrow some milk and eggs from your animals, and keep your garden full. Missing something? Place an order with the local grocery shop and get all your ingredients delivered right to your doorstep. (Don’t forget to tip the delivery person!) Speaking of cooking, bring the whole family together in the kitchen to make Yorkshire pudding, beef wellington, or any of the other delicious dishes on the menu. It really does make the kitchen the heart of the home.
If this is all moosic to your ears, that’s great news! Even better, if you purchase the pack by September 2, you also get the bonus Gnome on the Go Digital Content** seen above! Ride around town on the Scenic Commuting Bicycle, decorate your garden with the "Onward" The Adventurous Gnome sculpture, and brighten your yard with Bramblewood's DeLIGHTful Tree.
Preorder The Sims 4 Cottage Living Expansion Pack now to start playing immediately when it launches on July 22 at 10:00 a.m. PT for Mac/PC on Origin and Steam, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®5.
Don’t hit the hay just yet, either. Summer of Sims has a few more rabbits to pull out of its hat before Cottage Living arrives, so milk it for all its worth!

How to Know If You're On a Date With Your Best Friend
Read on AO3
Summary:
He could see the way Richie looked at him with furrowed eyebrows, eyes slowly widening as he realized Eddie was coming over to sit next to him. Plopping down on the seat, he pushed Richie further into the booth, making himself comfortable. Without breaking eye contact, he placed his straw in Richie’s milkshake glass and asked, “Are we on a date right now?”
Eddie smiled, chin resting on his hand as he listened to Richie rave about the movie they had just finished watching. In all honesty, he hadn’t even been paying much attention to it, so everything he was telling Eddie was more like a recap of what he had missed. All he had been able to focus on was the way their hands kept brushing against each other as they both reached into the popcorn tub at the same time.
It wasn’t like this had been his first time watching a movie alone with Richie. It wasn’t the first time their arms had been pressed against one another on the shared arm rest, neither one of them relenting to the other, too stubborn to let the other win. It wasn’t even the first time Richie had put his arm around Eddie—finally leaving him the arm rest, might he add—during a movie.
It was, however, the first time the two had gone out together since Eddie had realized he had feelings™ for his best friend. It was the first time he had felt nervous by the slightest accidental touch of hands, or any skin-to-skin contact really, and the first time he had actually wanted Richie to put his arms around him.
“Eds, are you listening?” Richie questioned, as he waved a hand in front of Eddie’s face. “Don’t tell me you just tuned me out this whole time!”
Eddie blinked, faint blush spreading across his cheeks as he slowly came back to reality. He had been so engrossed in thoughts about the boy in front of him that he hadn’t realized he’d stopped paying attention to his ramblings. Quickly, he scrambled for an excuse and said, “Sorry Rich! I’m just so hungry I got a little distracted!”
He reached to pick up the menu in front of him, hiding behind it as he pretended to think about what he wanted. Eddie didn’t actually have to look. He’d been to this diner enough times with Richie and the other losers, to know what he wanted, what he ordered every time.
“You’re kidding, right?” Richie said as he reached over to pull the menu back down onto the table. “You always get the same thing Eds. Why bother pretending like you’re gonna order something different?”
“I’m not pretending Richie,” Eddie said as he pouted, crossing his arms defensively. “What makes you so sure that I didn’t want to try anything new tonight?”
Richie stared at him, eyebrows raised suggestively as his mouth began to spread into a wide grin. “You just handed me a perfect line and I could totally make a dirty joke out of it. But I won’t, because I’m trying to be nice tonight.”
Eddie gasped, feigning shock. “Richard “The Trashmouth” Tozier? Being nice???” He pretended to think about it, before he giggled and said, “Less likely than you think!”
“Hey, you jerk! It’s more likely!” Richie laughed along with him. “Keep this up and I’m not buying you a milkshake!”
Eddie stopped laughing at this, looking at Richie with a confused expression on his face. He couldn’t help but focus on the way those words made him feel—like this was something more than just friends hanging out. He refused to dwell too long on that impossible fantasy, though, and instead rolled his eyes at the boy in front of him. “Oh no, that’s so tragic! Whatever will I do now?? Oh, that’s right! Buy my own like I was going to do anyway.”
Richie seemed to deflate a little at Eddie’s comment, but he continued to chuckle lightly, the playful look in his eyes changing to something Eddie wasn’t sure he could properly decipher. ‘Was it disappointment? Nah, couldn’t be.’
Even so, the change in behavior worried Eddie and he frowned, eyebrows furrowed as his hand reached out to grasp the other boy’s. Before he could get a chance to ask what was wrong, he jumped at the sound of their waitress finally coming up to their table, smiling and unaware of the growing tension—if you could call it that—between the two of them.
“Your usuals again tonight boys?” she asked with a grin on her face, not bothering to take out her order pad.
Before Eddie could respond, Richie winked at her, handed back their menus, and said, “You got it, Linda!”. With one last smile, the waitress nodded and left just as quickly as she came, once again leaving them alone.
Eddie played with the straw in his cup, staring at it as if it was the most fascinating thing in the world. He was unwilling to look Richie in the eyes, not yet. If he didn’t look, he could pretend for one second more that this was an actual date—that Richie had ordered for him like he’d seen men do for women millions of times in the romantic movies Bev would often force them all to watch.
“Thought you wanted something different,” Richie’s teasing tone made Eddie snap his head up and stare at the curly-haired boy in surprise.
“I- well, you kind of went ahead and ordered for me,” he defended, a pout once again beginning to form on his face.
“Relaaaax Eds, I’m just...just messing around,” Richie said as he put his hands out in front of himself in defense. “No need to get your panties in a- I mean, yeah, sorry, I just figured you’d prefer your usual, jokes aside.”
Richie sounded nervous now. Eddie could feel something different, something that had changed in his attitude towards Eddie. He was trying to be playful with him, a tamer version of his usual self. ‘Jokes aside’ kept repeating in Eddie’s head until suddenly, it clicked, and he realized that Richie had not made a single mom joke that night. In fact, he hadn’t called him anything other than Eds, which was something he was surprised he hadn't picked up on earlier.
Eddie ignored this revelation and continued to talk and laugh with Richie as usual. They talked about their friends, school—anything and everything really—as if nothing between them had changed. Well, really, nothing had changed. Eddie noticing Richie’s less than normal behavior didn’t mean anything had changed at all. Eddie knew that change would only happen once one of them actually acknowledged what was going on tonight. ‘God, how many times will the word change cross my mind tonight?’
They sipped on their milkshakes, their usual after dinner ritual, as the conversation between them finally died down. Suddenly, Eddie wasn’t sure what to say or how to act. This was typically the part where they would share their drinks, mixing Richie’s chocolate and Eddie’s strawberry to create what Richie called their special ChocoBerry Milkshakes™.
Eddie smiled at the memory of the day this tradition started, remembering the way he’d told Richie how much he hated that name. ‘I’m such a fucking liar,’ he thought to himself as he peaked over at Richie.
Eddie loved it. He loved whenever Richie made something their thing, something they could both share and call their own. He, however, would never admit that to Richie, not in a million years. As Richie looked up from his own drink, Eddie averted his eyes, pretending to find the salt shaker on the table very interesting.
“What’s up Eds?” Richie questioned as he lightly nudged Eddie’s ankle with his foot. “Your face looks like you’re constipated, which usually means you’re worrying about something.”
“I’m not—” Eddie paused, attempting to relax his face as he nudged back at Richie’s foot with his own. “I’m fine, just—nothing. It’s nothing.”
Eddie could feel the way Richie was staring at him, willing him to look at him. When he wouldn’t, Richie grabbed Eddie’s milkshake and dumped it into his own glass. Eddie didn’t respond, despite his annoyance, and continued to stare at the salt shaker on the table. “You’re really not going to tell me what’s wrong?” Richie asked as he began to mix the contents of his glass. “This is the worst d—”
At Richie’s words, Eddie’s eyes snapped up to look at him. His heart began to race as his mind began to repeat the word he was hoping Richie had been about to say. ‘Date...Date...Date? Just fucking ask him. Why is that so hard for you to do?’ He struggled with himself for a moment, debating whether he should just lay it all out and ask the question that could change everything between them.
“Richie…” Eddie began as he continued to look at Richie’s face, now the one willing him to look over and meet his gaze. Richie’s cheeks were slightly flushed as he refused to do so, continuing to mix the milkshake in his glass. Eddie huffed, rolling his eyes and grabbing the straw from his now empty glass. Without further thought, before he could chicken out, he suddenly got up from the table, finally getting Richie’s attention.
Eddie watched carefully as Richie drew in a sharp breath and stood still, gradually raising his head to meet Eddie's eyes. He could see the way Richie was debating what to say, could see the way he was leaning towards making a joke he knew could have the potential to anger Eddie and make him drop the subject.
This time though, this time it wouldn't work because Eddie was determined. Determined to get an answer to the question that had been eating away at him since he first realized Richie had been acting differently. He reached out, fingers softly grazing the hand Richie was using to hold onto the milkshake glass. He could feel the way Richie’s hand twitched, shocked at the contact, before he gripped the glass a little tighter. “Why, are you going to pay if I say it is?”
Eddie smiled wide at this, bringing his free hand up to cover his mouth as he began to laugh. “Excuse me? You’re the one that said you were going to buy me a milkshake earlier!”
“Oh, so you want this to be a date so I’ll pay?” Richie shot back as he grinned at Eddie. He was no longer nervous, and Eddie sighed in relief at this.
“Come on Rich,” Eddie pleaded, looking at him fondly. “Answer the Question. Please.”
“I mean, yeah I—” Richie sighed as he ran his hand through his unruly hair. “Yeah, it’s a date.”
“Okay.” Eddie said simply, pulling the glass closer to himself and taking a sip of the mixed milkshake.
“Okay?” Richie questioned, staring at Eddie’s hand which was still holding on to his around the milkshake. “What the fuck does that mean?”
“It means okay,” Eddie shrugged with a soft smile on his lips. “It means this is officially a date, if you still want it to be.”
“Of course I do Eds!” He said excitedly, scooting closer to Eddie. Richie smiled at him and Eddie could feel the fluttering feeling of butterflies in his stomach. He loved this Richie. This happy over the moon Richie that got so excited that he would start rambling and fidgeting with uncontrollable energy. He loved this Richie that seemed so genuinely happy to be on a date with him, that got so flustered over asking him on a date in the first place.
He loved Richie. He had always loved Richie. As a friend, as something more. Eddie knew Richie loved him too, he just didn’t realize that it was as more than best friends. As they both finished up the milkshake, Eddie couldn’t help but wonder how things would be from now on. ‘Are we boyfriends now? Should I ask?’
Eddie’s thoughts were interrupted when he felt an arm snake it’s way around his shoulders, pulling him close to the boy beside him. “You’re doing it again. The thinking.”
“It’s what people usually do,” Eddie joked. “I know you don’t do it often but it is a thing people—”
Eddie’s words were cut short as Richie gently grabbed his chin, tilting his head towards him. His eyes widened as Richie’s face got closer and closer before Richie suddenly paused and said, “Is...Is this ok?”
He didn’t respond, only smiled at Richie before moving forward until their lips met in a gentle and—despite Richie’s chapped lips—soft kiss. He smiled into it and Richie pulled back, still holding on to his chin as he looked into his eyes, making Eddie’s stomach flip.
Before Eddie could say anything, the sound of a throat clearing made both of them jump and pull away. Linda stood there, wide grin on her face as she held the check out to both of them. Richie reached over to take it and as he did, Eddie used it as an opportunity to get impossibly closer to Richie and whisper in his ear, “So, you’re paying for this date then right?”

Hello my lovely conejitos, As we’re all aware of tumblr’s hot mess of a policy, I’m going to address the future of this blog as well as the future of ongoing and upcoming fics. I will remain on tumblr until it crashes and burns. Mostly because I enjoy watching disasters, especially when it’s self-destructive haha. However, future chapters of Long Road to Ruin and future requests will take place on ao3 for now on. I will post links onto here so none of you will miss out. But that will be the new norm from here on out. Here is the link to my AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/users/ladychocoberry In regards to jumping into other accounts such as twitter and pillowfort, I will not be joining either of those sites. I used to have a twitter account years ago and I grew tremendously bored from it. With pillowfort, I have nothing against the site. I am simply waiting for the beta mode to be turned off so that it’s publicly available. The only website you will ever find me outside of tumblr is Discord and AO3. Once again, thank you so much for taking the time for reading this and I hope you all have a wonderful day! Love, Lady Chocoberry

TOGETHER AGAIN SPOILERS
A thread of lore, Easter eggs, episode connections, and background details from Adventure Time: Distant Lands: Together Again! Let me know if I missed anything! This is adapted from my original Twitter thread.
1. I was expecting them to perhaps do a classic style title sequence for this episode, but I wasn't expecting them to straight up use the original title sequence. The only difference is this final screen saying "Distant Lands".
2. The background of the title cards is also the hill from the title sequence.
3. The ice cream having "50 flavours" and having an image of an enlightened soul is an obvious reference to the 50th Dead World as we see it later in the episode.
4. Continuing with the metaphor, the dirt in the ice cream could be a parallel to the fact that Jake's Nirvana actually wasn't perfect, because his inaction was allowing for injustice to perpetuate.
5. This whole scene feels immediately slightly off. Finn has his Scarlet sword and is out on a classic Ice King adventure, but he speaks in his grown voice and all the slang feels much more forced than it did in the real season one. Turns out this was deliberate.
6. The snow golem speaks with a baby voice like it did in the pilot episode, even though in canon it has a deeper voice. This further hints that something is not quite right.
7. The first major break in continuity is these snow golems resembling Uncle Gumbald and Peace Master, who Finn didn't meet until later in his life.
8. LSP sitting on Finn's head like this is reminiscent of Pen Ward's piece for the 2018 Ble crew zine.
9. Finn being given the choice of helping somebody but ending up helping everybody reminds me of "Memories of Boom Boom Mountain". It's the kind of resolution that wouldn't happen so much in the late seasons of the show, which helps make this scene feel even further out of place.
10. Jake is half frozen by Ice King in pretty much the exact same way as he was in "Prisoners of Love", and even has a very similar line.
11. The Snail is seen here. The crew have said that the Snail has been deliberately left out of previous Distant Lands specials, so its placement here is another very deliberate hint that this whole sequence is "trying too hard" to be like the early seasons.
12. The book "Mind Games" appears a couple of times, as seen in several previous episodes of Adventure Time. The first is as Finn is approaching the library in his dream. It also appears as one of the items in Finn's backpack later.
13. Jake is hurt when Finn fist bumps him with his metal arm, revealing that this scene is not real. This is also a callback to the title sequences of "Islands" and "Elements".
14. A whole bunch of familiar skeletons are seen in the bird's nest: Dirt Beer Guy, Abracadaniel, Me-Mow, Lemongrab, Mr. Pig, and the Snail again. This doesn't necessarily mean that all these characters are dead, since this scene is just a hallucination.
15. Old Man Finn! He's still got the chest tattoo of Jake, and this time we know that Jake is dead, so the theory that Jake died before "Obsidian" seems pretty likely. He looks similar to his old man design from "Puhoy", with the same facial hair.
16. There are several cameos of familiar characters who apparently died at the same time as Finn. The first is this duck, who previously appeared in "Ocarina".
17. The second is Donny, from the episode... uh, "Donny".
18. This goblin guy is an unnamed background character from “The Silent King”.
19. This old lady first appeared in "The Enchiridion", way back in season one. Old ladies are a species in the Land of Ooo, so I guess she wasn't actually very old back then, given she just about outlived Finn.
20. This is the cobbler who first appears in "His Hero". Amazing that he lived so long given all the trouble he got into in that episode.
21. Land of the Dead! This place was first seen in season two's "Death in Bloom", and now we are finally learning its actual purpose. It's a sort of gateway and hub to all of the other dead worlds.
22. There are some more minor cameos at the gates: a house person from "Donny", a soft person from "Gut Grinder", and a wood person from "When Wedding Bells Thaw". And, of course, the gate guardian himself from “Death in Bloom”.
23. Finn completely ignores the gate guardian in the same way he did in Death in Bloom. This also has the convenient effect of not having to reveal how Finn died, leaving it up to the audience's imagination.
24. Mr. Fox! We already knew he would die at some point because BMO had his skull in the finale.
25. Finn has his design from the first Distant Lands poster in this scene. Turns out it's young Finn in old Finn's clothes. But they gave him a shirt in the poster so you wouldn't be able to see the tattoo.
26. The clapping that Finn does while he's looking for Jake is a callback to "James Baxter the Horse", when Jake tells Finn to listen for that same rhythm if they are killed and need to find each other in the afterlife.
27. Mr. Fox talks about a "past life quotient", suggesting that there might be some kind of limit to how many times somebody can reincarnate. Finn's reincarnations are also seen in this scene; a callback to "The Vault", and confirmation that reincarnations share the same soul.
28. Boobafina, the goose who Mr. Fox was in love with in his debut episode “Storytelling”, apparently reincarnated into a tugboat. We've already seen that objects can have souls in the episode "Ghost Fly".
29. Finn is initially assigned to the 37th Dead World, which is the same one that Jake went to when he died in "Sons of Mars". We can only guess at what the other numbers on the ticket mean ;)
30. Tiffany! Despite several lucky escapes throughout his life, Tiffany has finally died. I like the use of this imagery to express Finn's conflicted feelings about him.
31. The 50th Dead World has long been established as the "highest" dead world, and the one synonymous with Heaven within Adventure Time's universe. It was first mentioned in "Ghost Princess" back in season three.
32. It's unclear what happens to souls which are destroyed within the dead worlds. It is a similar question to asking what happened to the ghosts that were killed in "Ghost Fly".
33. Death doesn't speak at all in Together Again because his voice actor, Miguel Ferrer, passed away in 2017 long before production began.
34. Finn phases through New Death when he tries to attack him, just like what happened way back in "Death in Bloom".
35. The 30th Dead World contains Tree Trunks as well as many of her love interests; Mr. Pig, her alien husband from "High Strangeness", Danny and Randy who first appeared in "Apple Wedding", and several more who we don't recognise, including at least one who presents as a woman.
36. Literally yelled when these two showed up. Joshua calls Finn a crybaby, which is a callback to "Dad's Dungeon".
37. The wall of weapons in Joshua and Margaret's house includes the iconic Demon Blood Sword, which was broken in "Play Date", as well as Margaret's auto-loading crossbow from "Joshua & Margaret Investigations".
38. Jermaine is sidelined a few times through the episode, in reference to his attitude in "Jermaine" where he feels that Finn and Jake were always their parents' favourites. I would have hoped things would be a bit better by now.
39. Fern gets name dropped while Finn and Jake are reuniting. A shame he doesn't actually show up in the episode.
40. In this scene, Finn says "What time is it?" This is a very subtle reference to the 2010 cartoon "Adventure Time".
41. In a couple of shots during this fight scene it looks like Jake might have a tattoo. It seems like it only becomes visible when he stretches out his arm.
42. New Death's amulet in this scene resembles parts of the Lich's cape, foreshadowing his influence on New Death.
43. There are several more cameos in the 50th Dead World: Booshy from "High Strangeness", one of the Marshmallow Kids from "Scamps", and Ghost Princess and Clarence, who were seen ascending to the 50th Dead World in "Ghost Princess".
44. Finn didn't interact with Booshy in "High Strangeness", but it seems they must have met at some point before they both died because Finn knows his name.
45. It seems like people in the 1st Dead World are slowly melted away until they become part of the landscape. Nasty.
46. Lots more cameos in this scene: a gnome from "Power Animal", a gnome from "The Enchiridion", a Bath Boy from "The Vault", Blagertha from "Love Games", Maja the Sky Witch, a troll from "Dungeon", Chocoberry, Choose Goose, Wyatt, a spiky person from "Gut Grinder", and possibly more.
47. Tiffany's insults are consistently nonsensical and amazing, as they were in the original series.
48. The Candy Kingdom looks extremely different. Peppermint Butler is wearing the crown so he might be in charge now, which is supported by the kingdom's very magical-looking augmentations. It’s not clear whether Finn and Jake were expecting to find Princess Bubblegum or Peppermint Butler, since both have the initials “PB” and both could be going by the title of “Princess”. Perhaps Peps and Bubblegum share the princess duties now that PB is living with Marceline more of the time.
49. Peppermint Butler has a "Boss" mug, although it's not the same colour as the one from "Obsidian".
50. Jake's ghost has the same design as he did when BMO killed him in "Ghost Fly". I also absolutely love Finn's ghost. This scene establishes that ghosts are just visitors to the mortal plane from the dead worlds.
51. Life has only appeared in animated shorts before now. Namely, "The Gift That Reaps Giving" which establishes her relationship with Death, and "Frog Seasons: Winter". This episode gives her a concrete place within Adventure Time's pantheon: she is in charge of reincarnation.
52. A translation of Life’s angry French dialogue by Shado: “After all I did for that boy. After all I did for him. No, it's not possible. It's not possible no, that... that makes me so mad but it's not possible.”
53. We finally have in-universe confirmation that Shoko's tiger is a previous life of Jake. This was previously confirmed by one of the writers, but wasn't canon until now.
54. I feel like Finn pulled off Shoko's look even better than Shoko did. I wonder whether Finn has gained the memories of his past lives now that he’s dead.
55. No Easter egg here, just want to appreciate this image.
56. There is an elemental symbol on the wall here, as seen in "Jelly Beans Have Power".
57. Tiffany's dramatic internal monologue is a recurring gag, as is his habit of nearly dying from falling into holes.
58. The Jake suit makes a cameo in the fight against New Death. It was last seen in the episode "Reboot”.
59. Finn's backpack contains a few familiar items: the t-shirt with the pocket from "It Came from the Nightosphere", Finn's underwear from "Little Dude" and other episodes, and a copy of Mind Games as I've already mentioned.
60. The Lich's Hand is present in the background of Death's... death scene. This is probably the unseen "friend" who New Death keeps talking about.
61. The Lich's menacing monologues often begin with a single command. Previously they have included "Fall" and "Stop". This time, the command is "Burn".
62. Jake uses the word "boingloings", which is a callback all the way to "Hitman" in the third season.
63. Jake's blue shape-shifter form from "Abstract" appears very briefly during his fight with Finn.
64. Finn's lumpy space person form also makes an appearance. This design was last seen all the way back in the second episode of the entire show, "Trouble in Lumpy Space".
65. Jake steps on the Lich's hand in a very similar way to how he stepped on Ash in "Memory of a Memory", which is itself a Monty Python reference.
66. The credits include a dedication to a few AT cast and crew who have passed away. Polly Lou Livingston was the voice of Tree Trunks. Miguel Ferrer was the voice of Death. Michel Lyman and Maureen Mlynarczyk were both sheet timers on the original series. Rest in peace.
67. The message that Finn and Jake write out on the ouija board is "BUTT", which Peppermint Butler takes as a distress signal. This message is also used as a distress signal by the Hot Dog Knights in "The Limit".
68. Peppermint Butler's reversed dialogue from the scene where he makes contact with Finn and Jake is "Kee-Oth Rama Pancake", the spell from “Dad's Dungeon” for banishing demons.
69. That appears to be President Porpoise with all of Tree Trunks’ other lovers.
70. In this scene, Life is humming part of "Lonely Bones", the song which Death tried to record for her in her debut short "The Gift That Reaps Giving". It's hard to notice because it's so brief.
71. Finn and Jake's cover is blown while in the Land of the Dead because Jake loudly farts, which also happened in "Death in Bloom".
72. The place where Mr. Fox explains the perception mechanics of the afterlife is the exact same location as the River of Forgetfulness from "Death in Bloom", which, as it turns out, was imaginary.
These are sort of out of order at the end because I was adding stuff to the Twitter thread as it got discovered. That’s all for now!

Breakdown/Analysis of 'Son of Rap Bear' Hello again! Apologies for not getting this out yesterday, but as I said I've been a little busy. Now, before getting into it I wanna say that I really like this episode. A lot of people hated it, and I can understand why - the rapping is painful... if you choose to take it seriously. I'll get into it further down, but it's actually part of why I really enjoy this one. But it's also a really strong episode for Flame Princess. So let's not waste anymore time, yeah?Son of Rap BearThe Clam Rap party was a nice introduction to the episode; classic low-key fun in Ooo. This marked the return of Crab Princess and her huge crab (is it even alive?) transport. And some nice "environmental storytelling" with the guests. Aside from a group of Candy People we got Breakfast Princess and one of her little sisters. It's nice that Finn invited Phoebe and Neptr because he knew they like rapping - and that FP brought Cinnamon Bun.Also, Elder Plops is actually a DJ in his downtime! I thought that was just a joke in Elements, but it turns out that that's legit. Also Chocoberry is with Mr Cupcake. I like how the show just made them a thing in the background.Lots of fun details here - like how Neptr is rapping even though Elder Plops isn't playing anything. So he's just droning on and continues to do so as Finn talks. Also, Phoebe just throws her plate of clams into the fire since, well, she doesn't eat."Utensils weren't provided, so I had to use my hands. I'm gonna be unhappy, if it happens agains." Once again, Finn belts out the dopest lyrics.Phoebe's first rap is pretty relevant to her character. Remember, her main conflict in this episode is that she feels like an uninteresting person, because her life has been very "contained", in more ways than one. So when she says, "I'm like a library book, so check me out, read my front and back covers so you know what I'm about," she's happily proclaiming she can be read like a book, and only her beginning and end, her recent history, is interesting. The rest of it is basically what FP realizes later - she's rapping about rapping. She has notably better skill than Finn, but, well, it isn't anything jaw-dropping.I gotta say, I really like how Phoebe picked up freestyle rapping. It's a fun and creative outlet for her, which I think is a very healthy avenue for her to pursue and distance herself from the stigma everybody has for her. Given that this is her first Clam Rap, it's clear she and the rest of Fire Kingdom still isn't wholly integrated with the rest of Ooo's societal structure. Getting out there and showing off her character like she does at the end of the episode was a significant step towards achieving this, I think."Rap Fastade" and neither Phoebe nor Finn hearing about it, makes it clear this was all part of Toronto's plan to steal the Fire Kingdom out from under her. And isn't it just fitting that she, once again, has to contend with people who aim to manipulate her naivety?I read through the part of the contract we see, and it seems like Toronto not only tricked Phoebe but also Son of Rap Bear. It mentions that their properties will be handed over to a set of "clients" - so I'm wondering if Toronto plans on owning the Party Bears' big monster guy, and if we'll see the results of this episode later. Probably not, but it's fun to notice these things and think about them.Neptr waves to Toronto when he says, "See you in a week." Little guy just misses the subtext of everything.Speaking of the monster, I like the detail that he has moss growing over him now. He must not have moved for a good while. There's also a ton of mushrooms in Rap Bear's place. What, does the monster have an infection or something?"He rapped my legs off." Only in Adventure Time.Remember how in 'Abstract', we see that Dirt Beer Guy now owns the Candy Tavern? On the roof, he put grass and trees on top. There's a sleeping deer there and I'm not sure if its real or fake or alive or dead. Let's not think about it."Rap Bear, Son of Rap Bear's father, said his son, Son of Rap Bear, would be at tonight's open mic." What a great jab at children's shows who do stupid hand-holdy exposition.I don't know the world of rapping/freestyle rapping, but they've got guest stars playing SORB and the gingerbread man: Dumbfoundead and Open Mike Eagle. They gave good performances in this episode! Especially Dumbfoundead. So, in case you haven't noticed for yourself, the rapping in this show really isn't good - at all. But the characters within act like it is, and /u/leusid pointed out to me that it's as if rapping is a reemerging artform in Ooo, it's different, so everyone who is average to us is great by their standards.SORB is savage as hell. "You haven't been in a battle since the age of two. I got shampoo more worldly than you."My favorite joke in this episode is how shit just explodes when they make killer raps. And that's a big part of why I enjoy this one - it's just fun! The rapping is painful sure, but if you don't take it seriously and just take it as is it's really enjoyable.Phoebe's naivety about the real world shows in how she thinks life experience can just be crammed in a week's time. Even Finn, who took ages to get where he is now, didn't achieve growth overnight. And that's the hidden theme of this episode: identity. That's a big theme of Adventure Time overall, but this episode if Phoebe's story.I like the detail in this episode of how Phoebe's burning works, and its consistency with her poisoning in The Red Throne. Remember how she cooled down and lost the majority of her powers? Well, she torches the little card a couple seconds after holding it (as opposed to how she destroyed Finn's poem by being near it in Burning Low), doesn't burn the papers, and only begins to singe Finn's shirt after settling her hands on his shirt. And he doesn't seem to mind as he grabs her by the wrists.I do wonder why Elements didn't reset her powers. Perhaps it shows that this was always a mental/emotional thing, and Phoebe is definitely more in-control and mellowed out than she was in her early days. Yet another subtle hint as to how Phoebe's identity and growth is the theme of this episode.Phoebe with sunglasses and riding Jake 2, encapsulates what I love about this episode. All these ridiculous things we see her doing, it puts Phoebe in a position we've never seen of her before - it's just so silly I can't help but smile. Really shows the kind of person she is and what she's willing to do for something she cares about. One of the first observation Finn makes about her is that she's passionate, and that has not waned over the years - only her expression of it.And in the background of that shot, a sad mailbox with socks that says "out of order." Whatever you say, Adventure Time. The sequence in which Phoebe is doing all these different things, to try and round herself as a person, is my favorite part of the episode outside of the third act. She gets a "real job" at Sassy's, and I love the "cuz I'm not very classy" bit - because she isn't, a princess wouldn't do a such a job but she isn't like other princesses.Climbing the rock (cool thing, it was a huge, dead insectoid) was a cool bit. That kind of imagery typically relates to one overcoming a huge obstacle and achieving their dreams. Now, on the surface you could argue that becoming Fire King was this obstacle, except it isn't. Phoebe's entire deal, her whole story ever since being introduced, was discovering who she is and her place in the world. Every episode has fed into this in one way or another, and here we have that identity essentially being attacked not only by SORB, but herself as well: she feels uninteresting, she feels like she hasn't lived a fulfilling life, and spiritually that means she doesn't feel like a complete person. However, her rap at the end is a realization of sorts, which I will get into further below.Really liked the other bit, where she had to "mind the clock," because she doesn't have time, only a week - in essence, she feels like she doesn't have time to patiently and carefully develop her very self."All around known, I'm the girl on a throne." Wow, that's actually a great line for the wrong reason - because that's all Phoebe is known for.Other interesting things include playing the saxophone for a day (very poorly, as a sax player myself I heard how bad that sounded).Standing in a bathtub was great. On a surface level, she's in the middle of the very thing that would hurt her, and to Phoebe that's interesting and probably hardcore. Except she's wearing boots. On a deeper level, bathtubs have always been a symbol of cleansing! Like she's ridding herself of her negativity and outer flaws. How she's in there with Finn speaks of their closeness. And he's with her every step of the way throughout this episode! It's nice to see how quickly their friendship mended together. When she's backrubbing Wyatt, they're in the Candy Tavern and there's graham crackers boarding up the wall from when SORB blew it open.So Bubblegum runs a math club! And for the only two people in Ooo who would care to: Turtle Princess and Kim Kil Wan. Funny how it says, "Don't stress about maths (until you know what I know)". For one, I doubt Phoebe became as good at maths as PB - emphasizing how haphazardly she tried to cram life experience in her. And on the other, it's a subtle jab of Bubblegum basically telling everyone not to worry about things until they are as smart as she is.That "mad grub" Phoebe made was appalling. Again, emphasizing how she really doesn't have much life experience, nor the time to carefully gain any. That billboard for Son of Rap Bear is awesome, and it's got a bit of meaning to it. But first, "When I close my eyes it's hard not to imagine that he's some sort of animal," - Ice King, Musicologist. Very deep, Simon. So, later in the episode, Flame Princess criticizes SORB for stealing his father's name and glory, and on this billboard we see he's already doing the same to Phoebe: he's called the "fire spitter," and his motif is flames. He's clearly trying to extinguish her already-meager fame at rapping and throwing himself to the forefront. It's funny how he's doing all this, when Phoebe just took up rapping as a fun hobby."Uh, yeah, my experience: solid like a pebble in aquarium - dropping knowledge like Bubblegum if she was a librarian." They do cool things with the outfits in this episode, and this line shown while Phoebe dresses in a bear hoodie is one of them. It circles back to the previous scene where SORB is trying to dethrone her identity while she tries to do the same. All while she says this line, where, no, she doesn't have a lot of experience or world knowledge. Both of these factors paint Phoebe in an artificial light, and we know that's not her. She isn't trying to take Son of Rap Bear's identity, nor is she this knowledgeable individual. And above all, Phoebe isn't fake - she isn't a liar. This rap really shows the power of this show's writing - how it crams so much meaning into just a minute of screentime. As soon as it's over, Phoebe says she feels like a hack as she removes the hoodie, and she hates that feeling. It's sweet of Finn, though, to tell her it's "really good."BMO hits the nail on the head: "Maybe there's an interesting thing about you that you just don't realize." I'll come back to this.Yeah, the can on Neptr's head. Did you know Finn made that because he intended for that to be his head originally? And who the hell does BMO think he is, trying to tell Neptr that what he believes in isn't real? He really is a child haha.Phoebe misses the point of BMO's wisdom, where she thinks the interesting thing about herself may lie in her relationship with her family - particularly, her father. I don't need to explain in depth why she went about that the wrong way: she's an interesting, complex person on her own, and it's because of her experiences borne from those of her father's treatment that made her who she is now. For better or worse. But of course, Phoebe doesn't get that immediately. It's a little sad that she really feels like a boring, unremarkable person.Flame King was utilized subtly and perfectly in this episode. The first shot we see of him and his kingdom encapsulates this and the theme of the episode, all without uttering a word about it. We see his Chipmunk Kingdom really has become one, and he's taken up painting as a fun hobby, even though he isn't good at it. It's exactly like what happened to Phoebe, right down to the little pastry companion he has, riding by on a skateboarding chicken.See, because just like Phoebe, it isn't Flame King's relationship with his daughter that makes him an interesting person. He's grown and developed on his own into a rounded individual, and he's happy with his existence. But Phoebe is a child who is uncertain about her place in the world and who she is as a person - a problem most everyone faces at this stage of their lives. There's a picture on Flame King's wall of Jake wearing a backpack. I guess he tried remembering the "baron of the Grass Lands to Prince Finn," and thought they were the same person.Phoebe came to her father in hopes of putting the past behind them. Because surely, with their history, doing so would definitely make for an interesting ballad, right? I believe that was her mentality here! But unfortunately, her father is still her father, and he still only thinks for himself as far as they're concerned. He isn't cruelly selfish, but he thinks she came to apologize for putting him in "lantern jail".Additionally, Flame King is still selfish because he clearly acknowledges that what he did to his daughter was terrible, but from his behavior (immediately going to put on tunes) and his dialogue, ("Be thankful for what you have now!") it's obvious he doesn't feel quite comfortable confronting this. He even says at the end of the scene, "Eugh. Drama." As though he doesn't like that stuff - it seems like he's missing the point and calling his daughter dramatic, but judging from his actions here he is well aware of what's going on. That's what AT does a lot with its writing - there's what you get on the surface level, but look past that and you'll see the character behind a lot of the, well, characters.Thing is, like with Finn, it's all on him. I've noticed Phoebe is as quick to anger as she is to forgive. Like Finn could have come back and been her friend at any time, but he needed to feel comfortable about it first, and grow. Perhaps her father will do the same, but likely not. But it's all on him to bury the hatchet. So, literally only the Party Bears and Fire People cared enough to show up to this. Just shows how little of a damn people gave about this.Phoebe's outfit in the climax has some nice meaning to it, just like the one from earlier that I mentioned. It's all white, giving off a pure sort of vibe that, by extension, feels honest and open. It also reminds me of her dress from Earth and Water - one of her most pivotal episodes in which Flame Princess, for the first time in her life, takes control of her own destiny and the first step towards becoming an individual.SORB coming in through a giant snapback is great.Toronto haha: "Aaaaand GO (sonofrapbear)"I love how they've written SORB's lyrics to attack Flame Princess at her most personal. He calls her a danger, and asks if any guys ever actually dated her or just used her for what she was. That was Don John, and that was what Finn did by accident. Flame Princess doesn't like being used, as we all know, and one of her goals as king was to be different from her predecessors - and that extends to Bubblegum in The Cooler. It's even more fitting that with Elements, Phoebe at her purest is a giant, rampaging monster that loves fighting. Maybe that's who she is, that's what she knows, and that's why she turned to healthier, less violent and offputting hobbies like rapping.I love how she blushes in embarrassment when SORB implies that she dates Cinnamon Bun as opposed to big macho men. Finn is more akin to the former too, and from Cinnamon Bun's reaction I'm wondering if we're supposed to get the vibe that they are in a relationship. I don't think so personally, they just seem like close friends, but it could just be something we haven't seen onscreen yet. To me, that just is another interesting facet of Phoebe's person: she prefers nice, sensitive guys like the two boys of her life.Which is why she completely chokes on her turn. Phoebe just isn't a mean person. Her rapping was never about criticizing people and making them feel like trash.Flame King's appearance made me realize this episode was also a parody of those singing competition-type movies. How the underdogs should totally lose, but then they see their loved ones in the audience and that somehow gives them inspiration to beat the pros. Except AT is more real than that, and Phoebe beat SORB at his own game, in her own badass way. There's a neat visual detail of how Phoebe blows off her rappers' hat when she explodes at her father - the final part of her desire to give the illusion of a "pro rapper" by wearing a snapback (which was also merchandise from The Music Hole when she rapped with Neptr). Once she sheds that, Phoebe isn't wearing a disguise anymore; she becomes real, to everyone, but more importantly, to herself. When she says, "I don't need you or anyone!" you hear another explosion in the background: she disses her father just by being honest. Phoebe doesn't need to rely on anyone, not like she did before she became king. She's the real ruler - not her selfish, cowardly father. She turns around and criticizes Son of Rap Bear for being a fake. He was just a kid trying to steamroll everyone who stood against him so he could feel fulfilled and special. But in truth, as Phoebe explains, that just proves how much of a sad little kid he is. SORB is really well-characterized for someone whose every line is just a rap - we get everything we need from the environment and other characters. As I said before, identity is the theme of this episode, and Phoebe's entire storyarc. Son of Rap Bear doesn't have one - he doesn't even have a real name, it's emphasized throughout by himself just being known as the son of a famous star."So sorry, you can't take what isn't owned by me... So take him away." That was badass, and then "I get it! She owned him!" was just hilarious. In the end, Phoebe tells it like it is. Like everyone who ever stood against her, being a liar and a swindler isn't the road to a happy life. Oh, it could achieve satisfaction, but unlike these people Phoebe loves her life and who she is, what she's accomplished. And she doesn't see her kingdom as something she owns, like her selfish father did: Flame Princess is the Fire Kingdom, and the Fire Kingdom is Flame Princess.Who she is has been shaped by her upbringing, and this mentality echoes in her attitude towards being a ruler (shaped by Finn's gentle guidance in her early days of being free) and what she went through before that, and after. And this is the heart of 'Son of Rap Bear'. Phoebe's rap emphasizes that she doesn't need to have a varied, "interesting" life to be an interesting person. What's interesting about her, and us as individuals, is the experiences we have and how they make us us is what really matters.I've always liked Flame Princess's story. In fact, I love it - she's a fantastic character, and a lot of people miss that because they criticize her for what she felt in this episode: she isn't interesting. But as someone who once, a long time ago, felt much like her - boring for not having a wild, crazy life, only realize later that who I am and why is what matters than superficialities, her character arc really jived with me, and it made me love this episode as much as every Flame Princess episode that came before it.Please join me tomorrow for 'Bonnibel Bubblegum.'

Obsidian lore thread!
Sharing this thread of lore, episode connections, and Easter eggs from Adventure Time: Distant Lands: Obsidian, originally written for my Twitter.
SPOILERS AHEAD, WATCH OBSIDIAN ON HBO MAX IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY
Keep reading for the full thread!
1) We've seen bombs scattered around the Land of Ooo before, but this is the first time we've seen the word "fission", confirming that they are nukes. Although we have seen the radiation roundel plenty of times so it's pretty obvious.
2) The "magic lightning" that created the Glass Kingdom could itself have been one of the nukes. Alternatively, it could have been the catalyst comet, although Finn has no connection to this place so that's probably not the case.
3) The subtitles for the first four minutes video suggested that Glassboy was saying "crap" here. However, the HBO Max subtitles confirm he is actually saying "crack".
4) All of Marceline's classic furniture is present, but Bubblegum's influence is very visible; a doily on the couch, a flask underneath, new barstools from the Candy Kingdom, and the pink lamp in the bedroom, just to name a few examples.
5) Lady Rainicorn slippers. That is all.
6) Chocoberry on the cover of a magazine. Looks like she's been dipped in white chocolate for this shoot.
7) This is the first time we've seen Choose Goose since he appeared as "Achoos Goose" in the Elements miniseries. Last time we saw his normal form was all the way back in season five's "Blade of Grass", nearly seven years ago. Is it weird that Choose Goose was the first thing in the episode to make me cry?
8) It appears that Princess Bubblegum has not rebuilt the Gumball Guardians since they were destroyed in the battle against GOLB.
9) There are lots of familiar candy people in and around the tavern, from a variety of seasons, including Kenneth, Dirt Beer Guy, Cherry Cream Soda, a Banana Guard 500, Lollipop Girl, and Smudge.
10) Simon is of course singing "Remember You". He is also using the omnichord that was used in that episode. Interestingly, this suggests he might remember some of his experiences as the Ice King.
11) This isn't the first time Dirt Beer Guy's tavern has hosted an open mic night. He also held one in "Son of Rap Bear", and even used the same banner, although it's looking a little tattered and worn out now.
12) Simon doesn't look any older than he did in the finale. This might mean that Betty's wish made him immortal, or it simply might not have been long enough for him to visibly age.
13) This is the oversized shirt given to Marceline by her father in the episode "Marcy & Hunson". It's looking a little faded these days.
14) Bubblegum's outfit is of a similar style to the one in "The Vault", but it's not the same. The fact she's not wearing her amulet might suggest this flashback takes place after "The Vault", but nothing is known for certain.
15) There are gravestones outside Marceline's house, but these actually aren’t new. They previously appeared in “Go With Me”. So don’t worry, these don’t belong to Jake or anything like that.
16) Simon's coping mechanism would be funny if it wasn't so sad. It's going to be a long time before he fully recovers. On a lighter note, the magnets on the fridge say "M PB" which is pretty cute.
17) This is our first time seeing the outside of Elise's van. We previously saw the interior in "Everything Stays". Also, we learned from the credits and subtitles that her name is Elise!
18) Previously, it wasn't known whether or not Elise survived the Mushroom War. Turns out she did... but not for long. It's also now unclear whether the flashback from "Everything Stays" happened before or after the war.
19) A nice little timeline detail: Marceline travelling with her mother for a while explains the awkward two year gap between the Mushroom War and the events of "Simon & Marcy".
20) Here's a comparison of the parts of Marceline's song that got corrupted into the current version. The Glass People got really obsessed with the idea of the song being about coconuts for some reason.
21) PB yelling "Scree!" to summon the Morrow is a callback all the way to the season two episode "Death in Bloom", which is when the Morrow made their debut.
22) Disease is added to the long list of things that helped wipe out humanity. I wonder if this disease is related to the one that Hugo and his crew gave to the grays in the BMO special. I also wonder if Marceline is immune thanks to her demon half.
23) The mutant puppy was able to say the word "wassup". Perhaps this is a halfway stage to the talking animals that now populate the Land of Ooo.
24) Turns out Marceline discovered her demon powers before she defeated the Fool. This is the first appearance of these kinds of soulless husks since "It Came From the Nightosphere" in season two.
25) This is the first new candy power we've seen Princess Bubblegum use since she learned how to create mints and soda in "Jelly Beans Have Power".
26) Marceline not caring about the glass people is very in line with her personality in the early seasons, such as when she was happy to let her father suck souls as long as she got her bass back.
27) No Easter egg here, just an extremely good image.
28) Here's the screenshot leaked by Adam Muto last month. Like the gas station in "Bonnibel Bubblegum", the graffiti here tells an interesting story. Seems like the Land of Ooo had a bit of a Mad Max phase while the humans were still around.
29) This is (as far as I know) only the second time an Adventure Time character has ever been shown bleeding. The first was the heart monster in "The Enchiridion", but that was a lot less realistic.
30) The fact that humans survived long enough to construct a whole Fallout-style bunker confirms that the near-extinction of humanity wasn't a quick process. It makes you wonder whether any other groups made it, besides the Islanders.
31) Apart from this being one of the darkest scenes in the entire show, I like the background detail of bank notes being used as toilet paper.
32) Marceline grew up blaming herself for her mother leaving, and says she is like her dad. It sounds like Elise has told Marceline a bit about Hunson Abadeer, and is scared and angry at him.
33) This actually isn't the first time Marceline's bass has been broken. She also snapped the handle during her fight with the Vampire King. However, it's never been completely shattered like this.
34) This might be a reference to the Hall of Egress. That's the only other time we've heard Bubblegum use that word.
35) Confirmation that Princess Bubblegum doesn't have bones. I guess that counts as lore?
36) The gag of the Banana Guards slipping over each other was also done in "The Thin Yellow Line" and probably some other episodes I'm forgetting.
37) Jake’s granddaughter Bronwyn is certainly an unexpected appearance. I wonder what affiliation she has with the main cast now?
38) And of course... FINN! I would estimate he's aged about five to ten years since the finale, but it's hard to tell with Adventure Time's style. He looks younger than he did in Puhoy's alternate future.
39) Lots of people have been theorising that the tattoo implies that something unfortunate has happened to Jake. Perhaps we'll get to know more about that in Together Again. Let's not dwell on it for now.
40) A canon origin story for the shirt, plus a Bubbline first meeting! This overrides the P.B. & Marcy comic, and re-contextualises a whole bunch of the old Bubbline episodes!
That’s all for now! Let me know if you can think of anything I missed!
