You know, I think there's something so, so insidious to the idea that Orym's perspective of the Vanguard is "flawed/human" or that him repeatedly reminding his friends what the Vanguard does (kill innocents to achieve their means) "blocks nuance" in the conversation, etc, because it implies that, in this mythical "objective" perspective that apparently exists, the Vanguard aren't so bad. If only Orym could put aside his petty grievances, such as the murder of his father and husband, and let people be nuanced about this situation, he'd see there's two sides to this story. I think there's some misconception people have that they think war shouldn't ever be personal and if it does become personal for someone then their logic is too clouded by their feelings to see the situation clearly, just automatically. When discussing things like privilege and oppression, people seem to have one of two ideas about transmasculinity depending on what suits them best at the moment. They either picture a passing masculine trans man or a femme-presenting non-binary person. Both of these prototypes are skinny and White and relatively palatable to the general public. They find it easy to paint both as basically having cis privilege anyway, just wanting to play up their oppression to make people feel bad for them or excuse their (trans)misogyny. They’ll call the former a misogynistic dangerous Aiden and the latter a basically cis theyfab. There’s no room at all for people like me, people on T but still perceived as a butch lesbian. Closeted transmascs. Intersex transmascs. Multigender transmascs. Gnc transmascs who’ll wear a beard and a dress, but are allegedly exempt from experiencing transmisogyny. And yet even those two prototypes still get discriminated against, assaulted, and killed in cold blood. But that must have been despite their male/cis privilege.

It’s funny that those narratives are so dominant. Have you considered you’re seeing transmascs as privileged because you’re only hearing from the most privileged transmascs? That the handful of skinny White transmasc youtubers and musicians and celebrities you can name only got that far because they fit the picture? Honestly really pissed that the larger community cares more about someone getting banned from social media than the dead kid. One is truly small potatoes when we have children being beat to death at their own school.

I wouldn't say that it's small potatoes– tumblr has been a genuinely important place for a lot of trans people, especially trans youths. I know it was fundamental for not only realizing I was queer but also being exposed to leftist ideas for the first time. It's also an important place for social interaction for many disabled people who struggle to be able to engage with local communities. That fact that the CEO is pulling this anti-transfem shit is genuinely scary and a serious issue given how important social media is in many people's lives.

That being said, I do think that there are people on here who are not giving Nex's death the attention it deserves. And I don't want to make assumptions, but given how so many fucking people on this website have thrown around terms like "theyfab" and specifically mocked pre/no-T FTX people for being cringey and privileged and not understanding what it was like to REALLY experience violent transphobia... well. It's pretty aggravating. Regardless of what the autopsy reports will say, Nex and another trans person were beaten up in the girls bathroom (which they were forced to be in because of transphobic laws). It kind of fucks with the narrative that FTX people are whiny & "want to be oppressed."
