As much as I can hope it’ll turn out the way a lot of us hope it will, the projections are not good and I’m extremely lucky to live in a progressive state. We’ll be okay and my rage tonight will probably settle by tomorrow evening and fully gone in the next couple of days once I see content of all of us being united in grief, fear, anger - because nothing better than unity 😭! To non-Americans reading this, please support your American friends during this time and during the next four years; I’m very sorry for how ever this presidency will effect your country, cause we have experience with that fuckhead fucking up on international levels.
This is not entirely shocking. The racism, homophobia, classism, and misogyny that made many dumbass hateful Americans so desperate that they voted against a black woman that would maintain rights to abortion, gay marriage, the act of affordability with housing and healthcare, are acts and beliefs of bigotry that run deep within this institution. They run deep in any institution that exists in this world, but America, for a long time, has had not only said outdated institution loud and proud of their hatred and lack of critical thinking, but as well as people who vote against their own best interest.
To any blue voters, people of color, to my fellow women, to others in the queer community that live in red states, please stay safe and strong.
Please feel free to send funny or wholesome things to be posted to lift spirits, but know that coping does not turn away the results of what happened and will happen to America.
However, as long as we know there are people out there like us, people who are angry, scared, and willing to put up a fight, I think we, the people, will manage.

the hard part is i can see (white especially) non-americans rubbing it in and it’s like okay yes you don’t need to kick scared people when they’re down, though. both options were objectively fucking bad but as a VERY POOR nonbinary indigenous dyke on HRT who relies on medicare it’s objectively hard not to feel completely hopeless
americans know that america is fucking evil. we know. indigenous people in america especially know that, and we are going to be especially vulnerable for these next four years
please be empathetic today to people who are scared and upset. don’t rub it in

the fact that my extended family is so divided on this hurts. i don’t mean to sound dramatic but don’t say you love me or anyone else if you’re going to elect someone who will hurt us for who we are

Listen Kamala Harris is from the Bay Area like my mom's family, I watched her speech after the election was called in 2020 with tears streaming down my face because she sounds like my aunts, I got to watch an amazing woman who looks and speaks like my beloved aunts be elected to one of the highest positions my country has and I really really really want to hear her 2024 acceptance speech and watch her be sworn into the Office of the President in 2025, okay?

Post-Election Rambling
When I got a Tumblr I promised myself I wouldn't talk about my work here. And there's nothing I love more than being wrong. So... buckle up. One of the hardest things about being a journalist is that you must keep a straight face no matter the outcome.
Coming into the newsroom this morning feels like... well. There's no way to really explain it. The closest I can get is to say that it feels like the 15+ hour day I spent watching my legislators strip LGBT+ folks of their rights only to come out of that room and have to look members of my community in the eyes- my friends and fellow queer people - and ask for statements while they sobbed hysterically because, if I don't, how will the world know what is happening. It's a horrifying and crippling feeling to watch people suffer like this, knowing that the best (and only) thing I can do is serve as a relay for information.
Most of my reporters are struggling this morning. Most of them belong to groups facing very real consequences of this election so it is understandable that they are grappling with the reality of this election. And, yet, we are not afforded the luxury of losing our shit when all eyes are on us. They've been asking me for advice since I'm their boss (it's weird to say that still, despite having served as the news director for almost three years).
Because there are plenty of people struggling right now, I'll tell you all the same thing I tell my reporters.
Millions of ballots are still being counted. Wisconsin is in the process of recounting because of a broken ballot reader. Pennsylvania is also having confirmed issues with counting the ballots in Cambria County due to malfunction and has extended their voting hours. Counting of the votes will not be done until this weekend. Final counts will not go out until Monday morning.
He has not OFFICIALLY won yet.
That being said, even if he does win, we fight together. We commit to protecting each other, we dedicate ourselves to cultivating accurate informational networks, and we work to create a better world tomorrow. He might make that harder to do. But that doesn't mean the fight is over.

As a German/Austrian, when this happened in 2016, I remember being shell-shocked. Completely baffled, devastated. We were all crying in the office, including grown hardened men. Today I'm not shocked, not even really surprised.
I am PISSED. I am FURIOUS.
We will not go gently.

i just want to say that i am so beyond grateful of how politically and socially informed younger generations are (millennials, z). this shit is overwhelming. we are not wired to receive such an influx of information at once and process it. i'll be the first to say i don't always do the best research — sometimes reading deeper into things is so emotionally taxing, which leads to a spiral, and then i have to step away. but there are people out there doing the work, compiling information together in to simpler, more understandable terms and giving the hard truth, which is that we need to band together and act on injustices.
vote. vote early. show up for communities. be informed. don't back down from fighting for what's right. get involved when and where you can.

Hey, so... I know this is a bit delayed. I've been grieving hardcore over the election results since 4 am. But I just wanted all of you to know:
I love you. I love you so, so much.
I know it's hard, but please don't give up the fight. We need you here, now more than ever. Giving up would mean letting the hatred win, so we must outlive it. Hang in there. This is not the end.
Keep moving forward.

This is a very small, little note; nobody needs to like anyone. Everyone is free to dislike someone if they wish. But for the love of Christ, if you decide to dislike someone (especially for a subjective opinion), leave them the fuck alone. Go ahead, dislike whoever you want, but don't get all passive aggressive and try to harass or bully them. Just leave them be, it's not that hard to walk the other direction than them.
Learn to move on and be an adult about things that annoy you instead of building your entire personality around disliking people.
