Caught between Mist and Flames

For today’s @flufftober prompt 'fire and ice' I had an idea for a Milippa fantasy or fairy AU where the Emperor is the leader of a flame clan and her twin sister Philippa the queen of a sort of part-frozen magical wetland area. Michael grew up in the ice kingdom and Philippa mentored her for a time and cared for her as a promising mentee and later even friend, and would always protect her, but never saw more in her. When Michael meets the vicious emperor of the neighboring lands, there’s a spark between them and not just because of the way small flames seems to dance on the emperor‘s skin… but could Michael ever ignore the ruthless way the emperor Leads her people, when it goes against everything Philippa ever taught her? And should she even try to make this work, when the emperor is likely to use her and leave her to burn when it is all over?

I don’t have time to write a proper fic for this with all the necessary worldbuilding, and if someone wants to adopt the story feel free!

But I did post a drabble on Ao3 :)

I was in the Disco fandom last year but now I'm mainly writing CAoS fics, so I had a worlds-colliding moment seeing you join the milippa server 👀 I'm beyond ecstatic to see you here! I'm in love with your black sabith fics (amongst your delish OG works), and your writing is just superb. I'd be looking forward to reading your Trek fics if you plan to write more :D

disco holds so many memories for me as the trek i was able to enjoy with fandom. as the trek that holds up a mirror... to me. a trek that i could see myself in, through captain philippa georgiou - how she looked, how she spoke, where she was from... and what she could achieve.

i would run home from class every thursday/friday, park myself in front of the tv, boot up netflix, and be absolutely lost in the wonder for an hour of my week. sometimes i'd even download it on my phone and watch it on the bus ride home.

i was a kid going through so much. mental health stuff. grief. growth, in general. and disco sat down with me and held my hand through it all.

disco was what got me into femslash. and accepting my own sexuality. seeing gays in space. making my own stories about gays in space. (milippa stans make some noise)

i made this blog because of disco characters. and i've made so many friends and created so many stories because of it. (Shoutout to my abandoned longfic while we're at it) So, while everything does have to end, this is a goodbye that isn't going to be easy.

Thank you, Star Trek Discovery. You magnificent mushroom ship with gay ass found families and nerds and bridge sapphics and a wonderful, soulful captain. I eagerly await the final story you'll tell and will savour every episode.

Yeah! I didn't took it as a complaint or meant to complain in the tags either, I was just talking to myself seeing whether I could figure out all the main ships without checking on Ao3 :D

I did look it up afterwards, and on otp:true Milippa has a total of almost 300 fics, but only Milippa prime is even remotely close to 250 works (prime 193, mirror 92, mirror/mirror 11, and we're probably losing some ot3 fics or past prime&current mirror Milippa fics to the otp:true filter)

I just really love looking at Ao3 stats :D

nominating ships in rarepair exchanges is very easy if you are into Star Trek and f/f because there's literally only three (3) pairings across all shows that have more than 250 works on AO3 with the otp:true filter activated. But with your help we can change that!

I'm going with the tattoos appearing prompt for Mirror Milippa this time but I thought I'd leave the ask in my inbox for future reference, so maybe you'll get another prompt fill later :D & I haven't written the full fic for this one yet but I've got the outline down, for now here's the already finished intro, and I'll let you know when I post the rest of the fic on Ao3!

Philippa had known about soulmates since she was young, of course. About couples and triads bound so tightly in trust and affection, nothing of the hard reality of their world could ever pull them apart. How they grew stronger through their bonds to each other, all their strengths combined in a single unit working together seamlessly.

Fairy-tales.

Of course, there was truth to it - no denying that most people had faint grey tattoos from birth on that darkened into definite black shapes over time, until they met their match.

But that wasn't all there was to it.

Soulmates could mean strength, sure - but they could also mean weakness, as a threat to a mate would leave the other with a singleminded focus on saving them, leaving no thought for the bigger picture.

Philippa, with her blank skin (well, not unmarred of scars and birthmarks, but untouched by any sort of grey or black soulmate tattoo), had decided early on that it was a good thing that there was no match for her in this world, that she was destined to rule it, with no distractions holding her back.

And ruthlessly rule it, she did, until one day she was pulled without mercy from her universe into another, leaving her life's work and legacy behind, going snapping and snarling and trying to ignore the fact that if she had stayed, she would be facing certain death by the hands of her erstwhile mentee and that pesky soulmate of hers.

It was easier to ignore all that and to be angry at the people she could actually face instead...
