Let's scream about it. I loved this movie so much. It was everything I've always wanted a proper monster loving beauty and the beast type story to be!
Ahdkajkfja RIGHT?
At first I thought the cover for it looked a bit odd, but I gave it a go and it was so good!
I loved the first interaction they have in the pit/cave on the island, where Mira asks if Arman is a prisoner too. He doesn't outright say it but the way he says the dragon will come for them if they don't remain in the pit makes sense the more you watch. The fact that he confines himself to the narrow space to keep from transforming, feeling like a prisoner in his own body bc he's afraid of the dragon too.
Also ALSO I LOVED the scenes where they decorated the cave to be livable! Immediately reminded me of dragons preparing their nests for their mates, I also loved Arman being perceptive and clever enough to have figured out Mira was, at the same time, searching for materials and planing her escape. It added a sort of realism to it that even though there are clearly budding feelings between them, Mira still is afraid of the dragon and has a plan B, I loved that Arman doesn't blame her for it either.
And the CHEMISTRY, the TENSION

Recently I've seen a movie called Damsel (2024) and wow, it's a pretty good movie. And I really like it.😁
youtube
I decided to watch it after my cousin told me that in her opinion it has the same energy as the movie On - Drakon/Он – дракон (2015), in English I Am Dragon/He's a Dragon/He is Dragon.
youtube
And indeed, both these movies are similar in some way.
After watching Damsel, I felt like watching On - Drakon again! 😆
Because I love this movie!
I also love this fan video, it's beautifully done. ❤️‍🔥

Thinking Aloud About Film: Stronger Than Love/ Más fuerte que el amor (Cuba/ Mexico, Tulio Demicheli, 1955)
Another fascinating film showing on MUBI; part of the ‘Spectacle Every Day: The Many Seasons of Mexican Cinema’ program; a lurid and very entertaining melodrama; interesting to compare with its contemporary Hollywood variant but perhaps best seen as an example of Spanish speaking transnational cinema. The director Tulio Demicheli is from Argentina, Jorge Mistral is Spanish, Miroslava originates…

Propaganda
Ida Lupino (On Dangerous Ground, High Sierra)— as well as an actress she was a prominent director of the '50s, directing stone-cold bangers like The Hitch-Hiker (the first film noir directed by a woman)
Miroslava Stern (Escuela de vagabundos, Ensayo de un crimen)—no propaganda submitted
This is round 1 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut]
Ida Lupino:

Though best regarded for her work as a director, Ida Lupino certainly had chops as a leading lady, especially in film noirs. She can be majestic and sweet just as easily as she can play fierce or sultry.
