Miraculous Ladybug Vlog: Crocoduel

Season 4, Episode 9

This is an episode with the good, the bad, and hands down the best costume the show has ever designed.

The. Drip. Is. Real.

So the episode starts off on Juleka's and Luca's amazing houseboat with Kitty Section playing the one and only song they actually know. It's not a bad song so I won't complain but you think the kids would try jamming to something else by now. For some reason Adrian is not there despite being a part of the band, and Marinette's not there for reasons the show inaccurately makes Luca state.

"Marinette's not coming around because she knows I love her."

This is downright incorrect. It's not about her knowing his feelings, it's because they broke up! If the show wants to recount old events, I'd prefer if they did it accurately.

What's even weirder is that once Luca leaves after hearing Rose's cover up, the show misses the opportunity to use Zoe to get across some needed exposition for those who missed the first episode. Please remember that Zoe wasnt there for the break up and shouldn't know anything about the history in the friend group because she just got there. So she could ask questions like "why wouldn't Marinette come because of him?" followed by an explanation

If you're going to introduce a new character, use them to your advantage! JUST BECAUSE SHE'S CHLOE'S REPLACEMENT DOES NOT MEAN SHE KNOWS WHAT CHLOE DOES BECAUSE SHE WASN'T THERE! THIS ACTUALLY WOULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD WAY TO UTILIZE ZOE.

Though this creates another issue, that being that if Marinette's to embarressed to see Luca, than why did she bring Zoe to one of his music parties to introduce her to the group?

ALSO LUCA AND JULEKA ARE TWINS?! WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN? For two seasons the show made it look like Luca was maybe a year or two older. Is this a retcon or just poor writing?

(just kidding. We all know it's both.)

Now at one point I was going to complain about the friends pressing Juleka to bring Marinette to the party. Or maybe them budding in and forcing Marinette to meet with Luca before she was comfortable, all of which is overstepping and rude... but then Rose kissed Juleka's cheeks and my negative emotions just...vanished. So I'll give it a pass due to them being the most lovely couple in the show.

I do like the scene with Marinette and Alya That Marinette quickly puts the plan together, how Trix and Alya interact. We also also, get confirmation that the magical charms can be given at any time and the victim does not have to be akumatized recently. Meaning she could give Luca a charm right away (and probably should do so for all Miraculous holders) and they would all be protected from Hawkmoth, giving them a strategic advantage for the time being.

However this scene does give way to another continuity error, when Marinette says:

"He got akumatized twice because of me." This is outright untrue. The first time Luca got akumatized was because of Bob the producer when he stole from his band. The second was in Truth when she refused to be honest with him.

"Continuity? Never heard of her." -Thomas Astruc, probably.

The next day, Marinette decides to make one of the most selfish requests she's ever made, and she asks Juleka to disinvite her own twin from their shared birthday party.

This is one of the most selfish, narcissistic, and disgusting requests I have ever heard from a fictional character. If it any other character from Miraculous Ladybug asked this, they would have been disowned from the friend group on the spot. I hate that Marinette can get away with this trash behavior, just because she's the main character. Maybe that's why they have her hiding behind a trashcan while she talks to Juleka. It's a visual representation of what the character is in this moment in time. And I don't care that she ends up apologizing later, she never should have done this in the first place.

The next scene involves her telling Luca while Jagged Stone makes an entrance, and the whole thing with Jagged Stone being their father is so clumsily done. There was not enough build up to it, and now his sudden want to be in his childrens lives make him look like a deadbeat, and father being kept from his kids simultaneously. It's really hard to tell what the real story between Anarka and Jagged is because the details we recieve, and both parents actions truly are telling two to three different stories!

Then the day of the party arrives and it's clear just how badly everyone has been treating Juleka. Everyone was trying to use her for their own wants and pulled her in so many directions, that she's reduced to tears in her own birthday. The only one who showed her any concen before she burst was Luca. And after he sees how badly his sister and Marinette reacted, he quickly put the situation together and was too sad to follow and comfort his sister.

(Also it may be a small detail, but I like how Luca and Jagged have the same way of calming down. When they get frustrated/ angry/ sad, they start strumming the guitar.)

And so begins the chronicles of Gabriel's failures. Were he tries a total of four times to akumatize someone, and just keeps messing up.

Luka is saved through the power of friendship

Marinette apologizes to Juleka for her impossible and selfish request. Allowing the two to make up.

Gabriel for some reason, thought Surprise" counted as a negative emotion. (because he's a moron)

And the final and most interesting shot, is when he witnesses Juleka and Jagged Stone's convesation.

To expand on point four and to give context, Juleka thought Jagged Stone only wanted to be around for Luca. She thought her father only loved her twin and that she was a mere oversight that freaked him out (as shown earlier in the episode, when he accidentally ignored her and jumped when he noticed her. But that was actually because she is just so quiet he didn't realize she was in the room with him.) and this thought seemed confirmed when it appeared Luca was getting an expensive bass from her father, and she was going to receive nothing, or a very lack luster gift in comparison.

However, it turns out the bass is actually for Juleka. Jagged learned they played bass and as a sentimental gift wanted to give her the first one he ever had. This is a huge moment for them because it shows that not only is Jagged NOT a deadbeat, but that he truly is trying to reconcile with both children. That he loves them, wants to share in their interests, be a legit part of their lives and recognizes that he was gone too long, and wants to make up for it.

This is very interesting because it mirrors Gabrial's relationship with Adrian. Supposedly, Gabriel "loves" his son Adrian, but he's hes been distant for years. Even before Emily's death. He's only been giving Adrian the same pen for the last three years, and in a way, his distance can be compared to Jagged Stone, who was also a distant/ nonexistent father until recently.

But the difference is Jagged is trying. ANd Gabriel feels that. He just felt through his own powers the reconciling and emotional bond these two formed in front of his own eyes. And afterwards there's no immediate monologue. Or disappointed gester like his last three failures, but almost... sad. Like if this was a good writer on board, they might have him silently reflecting on his own strained fther son relationship, and how literally this "dead beat rocker" just made more of an effort to be there for his kids in less than one hour, than he has for an entire year! Maybe longer.

Which maybe is why he makes a very irrational decion, when he finally has the chance to successfully akumatize Anarka and Jagged.

Did seeing what a good father Jagged was trying to be make him jealous? Did he intentionally or subconsciously allow Jagged and his ex to fight because it made him feel inadequate? There is no rational or logical reason to akumatize two people and have them fight each other, when his goal is to acquire the miraculous. If anything, it would make it more difficult would just tear the two apart. This was a horrible plan.

Chat Noir saving the day XD♡ I never thought I'd see it! Ladybug not doing so well until he arrived... I think this is the first episode that ever happened!!!

Luka knows what Ladybug is about to do. He KnNOWS he's about to make his sister a Miraculous holder... I'm sure he's surprised his help wasn't asked. But also, I kinda wish there was a moment with Adrian and Luca after he sees Luca's shocked face like... just a hand on his back or shoulder. Adrian doesn't give out the Miraculous' so he can't decide who/when Ladybug chooses someone. But he does KNOW Luca is the snake holder. He was the one he chose after all.

Oh fuck... Juleka's transformation, and outfit is SO cool... she might have the best costume in the show.

Actually this was one of the few episodes made and done tight so when a new Miraculous user is introduced, Chat Noir works WITH the new user and Ladybug as a great trifecta, instead of being over shadowed/ made to make mistakes.

And I said this before, if Adrian is good in the episode, the episode is good with me.

WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED BETWEEN ANARKA AND JAGGED? This was big fight, something clearly went down between them but one yell from Juleka was enough for them to stop? THIS SHOW SUCKS AT PACING AND NOW I REALLY KNOW WHAT THE STORY WAS BECAUSE IT WAS BIG ENOUGH FOR THEM TO SPLIT UP AND BECOME A SINGLE PARENT UNTIL NOW. WHEN JAGGED CLEARLY LOVES THEIR KIDS AND WANTS TO BE A PART OF THEIR LIVES. PROBABLY DID FROM THE BEGINNING. WHAT. HAPPENED?!

Luca: You should tell Adrian how you feel... because I sure hella can't.

That said I love Luca and Marinette becoming friends. He's such a sweet boy open to his feelings. I love it.

It’s been a while since I’ve made progress on this one — not because I’m not invested in it anymore, I’m just even more invested in a plethora of other WIPs (as you know). I think I will end up making this a series of shorter fics, so they are easier to write and read. Also to artificially boost the number of works in a certain tag, which is barren.

Anyway. Fold your hands and close your eyes started as a Transmasc Felix Propaganda fic, but has since turned into an in-depth exploration of his relationship with Amelie from the moment she learnt she was expecting. The title was taken from Church Bells, by Carrie Underwood, which tells you everything you need to know about where the story is headed.

And since I know you, Noctie, I shall give you the Graham de Vanily twins:

Emilie, as always, did not understand.

“This is wonderful news,” she exclaimed, arms clasped uncomfortably tight around her sister’s stomach. “Oh, Lilie, I’m so happy for you.”

The corners of Amelie’s lips twitched. Her brother-in-law, at least, had the decency to stand a few steps behind; she was grateful for his emotional incompetence.

This was, by far, the most pathetic baby shower in the history of baby showers. But it was nice to have company over without supervision — as unpleasant as said company might be.

“Isn’t it wonderful? Our little ones will be born within a few months of each other,” Emilie smiled, rubbing her bump with childlike excitement. “They will practically be twins, too!”

Evidently, she looked back on their childhood with more fondness than Amelie ever could.

“We need to get them matching bonnets,” the older twin chirped. “Oh, wouldn’t it be so cute if we got one of each?”

“One of each…?”

“A boy and a girl, silly!”

There was something unsettling about the way Emilie talked about their unborn children; a stranger passing by might have believed she was carrying them both.

Quick chocoau! Zoe backstory: She’s an influencer from Los Angeles who came to Paris for an abroad trip vlog (funded by Audrey, ofc). So she’s basically a social media nepo baby. So there’s also that contrast with how she portrays herself in a “shallow” personality and who she really is, which is reserved and shy and insecure.

I was thinking that when Zoe showed up to stay with them, Chloe got like, a whiplash of trauma of how Audrey basically hates her and loves Zoe more (sending her gifts and funding her trips) so whenever she’s around her she’s more hostile and cruel, but also anxious and always on edge.

Zoe is gonna be the final part of Chloe’s redemption arc, because by the time Zoe is in the picture, she’s still Queen Bee. Some trauma bonding later and Chloe is actually the one to give her bee miraculous to Zoe, because she realizes that she’s not a good miraculous holder bc of her own baggage and Zoe would be the best fit and deserves it, solidifying Chloe’s redemption arc!!

TLDR; it started out being a one-sided hatred, but then they become literal sisters!! 🩷🩵🐝

Study vlog

Took a break from tumblr for a month, I needed to stop thinking about studying for a while. This august was the first month of vacation I’ve had in three years. I moved two exams to January and I’m fine with it, I miraculously do not feel guilty about it lmao. I really needed to recharge.

And now I’m excited for the new year. I have new goals for this year and I’m excited to challenge myself to stick to my commitments.

To me September is like New Year’s Eve because that’s when a lot of things start, and the switch from summer to autumn has always felt symbolic to me idk

Now I’m gathering the material for the new subjects even though I’ll have to wait to be back in class to have a reliable feedback from my classmates. For now I’ve bought two books, the other two I’ll get after making sure they’re the right ones.

SO. i always like to keep track of how many fics i read throughout the year, and in 2024 i read about 28.3 million words of fanfic. i know. i don't have a life. most fics read were in july (4.4m words) and least fics read were in september (797k words). AU where Percy has to hide the fact he's a Big Three kid otherwise he'll be killed on the spot. Unfortunately for him, unclaimed kids tend to raise the most suspicion... but he might have found a loophole in the form of Aphrodite. okay yea this one just left me reeling for days. weeks even. this is a total rewrite of what pjo could have been and though i may have questioned it going into it, i should have never doubted any bit of this- this is just a masterpiece of writing, like, seriously. the way that all of the character arcs were written, the deaths meaningful, the plot insanely well-thought out?? i am in awe. i read this and the sequel within a 6 hour car drive bc i was just so insanely hooked on every detail of this universe- seriously, the worldbuilding was insane, the oc's so perfectly intertwined, and the lore perfectly incorporated. SERIOUSLY if you want a pjo fic to completely alter your brain chemistry, this is the one.

Medusa’s sculptures are mysteriously coming back to life. Percy doesn’t think murder is an unreasonable action given the circumstances. THIS WAS SO PERFECT. it was so hilarious while at the same time keeping a serious tone, but the banter and the dialogue and everything just made it such an enjoyable read (oh, and the ending. the ending is perfect.)

Narcissa Malfoy will do whatever it takes to save her son, and if that meant blackmailing demigods into saving the world again, then so be it. wasn't sure whether to include this in pjo or hp but so far the characters have been mainly pjo centric so i'd say that. and like. i know this was last updated in sep 2023 but god is the premise so insanely good. im so invested in the plot even tho it was only 12k words and unfinished. went through a brief phase of looking for good quality pjo/hp crossovers and this one just holds so much promise

This is a disaster. im almost 100% sure that i read this in 2023 and then i lost it and then i found it again, reread it, and bookmarked it, and then reread it again some other time this year, which just goes to show how much i love this fic. like. damn just thinking abt it i should read it again. absolutely incredible

IM BEING SO FR RIGHT NOW. the way that this fic literally altered my brain chemistry and left me in shambles. the amount of detail that went into the plot and the lore. i could read another 400k words of this universe and it still wouldn't be enough. the author is literally so crazily talented they made me ship harry potter x gideon prewett (no weird age gap going on trust me, there's a lot of time travel stuff going on- they are around the same age biologically and mentally). like seriously if i had to recommend one fic from this year it would be this. which is insane to say. but i cannot understate how incredible this work of fanfiction is like genuinely, i hope that this author is out there writing incredible original works because they integrated oc's into the plot so seamlessly, made these incredible relationships and orchestrated the plot so perfectly that i was just completely immersed. i could go on for way longer but like. all i could think when finishing this was woah. holy fucking shit. idk if i'll ever read a fic as insane as that again.

At that point in life, Vi should already be aware she hardly, if ever, had things go her way. this is actually 100% canon to me, seriously just thinking about vi and the alternate universe and her place in the world in the main universe now just makes me want to cry, but this fic just explored it so well and has one of the best vi characterizations ever.

Even worlds apart, they'll still always find each other. got to read this one as it updated and this was just a beautiful exploration of what could've happened if powder tried to recreate the anomaly (a question that im pretty sure everyone asked after the end of ep 7) - it was a wonderful fix-it while also staying true to all of the characters and exploring their relationships post-canon <3

I can't find it (although chances are I never posted it :/), but to this day I think about the post where I share possibility of past akuma victims just, remembering everything. All of them remember.

All. Of. Them.

And, it just sets off this series of support systems.

Individual and group therapy is something that is set up for those who need it.

August's mom starts a forum after her son starts remembering his time as an akuma, and it leads to more parents speaking up about their children, very young children, having nightmares and needing to sleep with their parents or older siblings because their memories as an akuma is hitting them hard.

People who work call off in order to process what's going on.

School gets cancelled for a brief period (like maybe a week or two) of time, some students stay home for longer.

Friends support each other whenever the memories get too intense.

We see so much support and love between everyone who remembers and is remembering...

...but then we have Adrien.

Adrien who can't bring himself to look for support. Adrien who feels like he shouldn't get help.

Everyone who's been akumatized is remembering what they did, what happened, and people can back up what's happened with clear evidence (articles, blogs/vlogs, clips from past livestreams or news reports, etc.) but he doesn't have that.

Chat Blanc's timeline is gone and Ephemeral's was reversed. There is no existing evidence that he's been akumatized. No one remembers he was akumatized, except for Marinette.

Marinette, who's Ladybug.

Ladybug, who's kept things from him. His akumatization, the fact she must of planned on having him reveal his identity just to not tell him hers (and she must of planned on having Viperion in on it, too, which makes it worse).

The girl he no longer knows if he can trust.

He doesn't have anyone who can support him. He doesn't want to say anything in case people thing he's making it all up.

After all, can he prove Chat Noir got akumatized, killed everyone in Paris, maybe even France, split the moon in half and almost killed Ladybug again? Could he prove he was Ephemeral and helped his father win (and God, if that isn't just another peachy thing to find out)? That Ladybug lost her Miraculous because he couldn't break out of his father's control?

He's remembering killing the people he loves and finding his mother (fuck, his mom is under his house) and not being able to resist the akuma and the world ending and being alone surrounded by water and just the continuous thought of "I killed them...it's all my fault..."

He's alone, moreso than he normally is. He shows to school and photoshoots looking dead. He slowly stops talking to his friends, eventually stops showing up to school (Nathalie informing them that he's unwell, since that's what he told her) and eventually leaving Paris to find someone he can talk to because his memories won't leave him alone.

No one knows where he went. No one knows where Chat Noir went. Both of them just, vanished. No one knows why. They can't come up with a reason for him to run.

Nino thinks he's runaway after finally having had enough of how Gabriel treats him, and he took advantage of everyone remembering their akumatizations to leave.

Lila thinks he didn't run away and instead was shipped off to who knows where in case Hawkmoth/Shadowmoth/Monarch sends out an akuma and he he can target past victims who have this new found guilt, she'd just hate it if she got turned back into Volpina or Chameleon and target him :(

Some people think Chat Noir is running away from his responsibilities. Some think he ran away to get real training, maybe an extra weapon in case he needs it.

Meanwhile, Marinette is having a crisis, because if everyone is remembering what happened while they were akumatized....but the time line got erased. Chat Noir couldn't possibly... he'd find a way to leave his Miraculous with her, right? Maybe he wanted to prove he could still be a reliable hero? Maybe she's looking too deep into it (look deeper, honey, you hit the nail on the head, keep hitting it and be a better partner).

I honestly don't know where Adrien would go, part of me wants to say London, because if he could vent to anyone who might possibly believe him, it could be to Felix. Part of me wants him to literally still be in Paris/France, just with a new found ability to wield shadows and be able to hide in them without being noticed. And yet another part of me wants him to run to an entire different continent and leave everything behind.

Just, it's one of the worst ways he can find out what secrets are/were kept from him, and he's not able to say anything because:

He can't know anybody's secret ID, despite it being important he does in case he has to get help on the off chance Ladybug can't (she's captured, she's affected by the akuma's powers, etc.). Look what happened when he found out who Ladybug was. Death on the one hand and his father winning on the other.

Ladybug likely had to go through so much in order to defeat Chat Blanc, why would she want to hear his POV about it? The damage was reversed. He should be happy everyone is still alive alive again after he killed them.

Ladybug is the Guardian, of course she had to know his secret identity. Right? Maybe if she didn't hand out the miraculous, Fu would have and he'd know everyone's secret ID. But she's the Guardian now, so it has to be important for her to know who holds what Miraculous.

He should have known his father was the villain this whole time. Wow, you lived with the villain and didn't suspect him at all? You could have saved time by taking them time to look further into things, but no.

He got akumatized twice and the second time he just handed his miraculous over. It doesn't matter that he wasn't in control, maybe this is a sign he doesn't deserve a miraculous, let alone one of the two most powerful.

Today is the day –  Trump 2.0 officially kicks off, and the drama began ahead of schedule.

Over the weekend there was what we’ll chose to call “The Tiktok Gambit”, which saw the Chinese micro-vlogging app banned on Saturday and then miraculously unbanned by Donald Trump on Sunday, despite his not actually being in power yet.

The impact being that The Donald is an anti-censorship hero before he’s even sworn in.

And, of course, in Israel the first hostages have been exchanged. A shameless pilfering of 1981 storylines, but it worked last time so why not try it again?

The ceremony itself has been moved indoors, allegedly because of the “extreme cold” (which obviously serves the Climate Change narrative). Why else they might have made that decision remains a mystery, maybe because faking some incident is easier with fewer people around, or just drama for drama’s sake.

The area is certainly primed for conflict, with thousands of pro- and anti-Trumpers taking to the streets.

As for opening day acts, theories abound from border controls to pardons for January 6th “rioters”.

I guess we’ll see.

A no powers miraculous au where Marinette is a Vtuber called Ladybug, Adrien simps in chat as ChatNoir, Lila lies about being her best friend and having seen her face, and Gang of Secrets is where a bunch of the girls all go over Marinette's to have a watch party in hopes of getting her into the content, only for Marinette to turn to her computer, hit start streaming, and just blow all of their Minds. It all comes together in a UMS3 tournament where Lila has hired a pro gamer to attend online pretending to be Ladybug. Marinette enters into the tournament as herself, vlogs the whole experience, and uploads it with her face reveal to her YouTube channel the next week.
