i love you, love you
the five times he told her he loved her and the one time she finally heard him
I. he’s eight years old and riley is the only one in his class who’ll invite him to play. a little blonde girl is the captain of an imaginary pirate ship. riley claims to be the queen of the galaxy and asks farkle to visit him on her home planet. maya calls out to him and says he can get there in her ship which is equipped for both sea and space travel. when recess is over and the kids are lined up and farkle has a smile so wide he reveals his missing tooth. as they walk back to class, farkle taps riley on the shoulder. “riley?” he says. she turns around and replies, “yes?” “kids! quiet in the hallways, please!” their teacher reminds them. “thank you for playing with me. i love you,” he whispers.
II. he’s eleven years old and sits behind her in her father’s history class. farkle stares at the back of her head every day. he wonders if anyone else notices how bright and kind and wonderful she is. he loves her. he doesn’t know exactly what it means, but he loves her and he doesn’t care who knows it. “i’ve been in love with riley since the first grade,” he declares. and yes, she hears him but she’s not really listening. yeah, yeah, yeah; he’s in love with her. riley throws her hands in the air and thinks, why me?
III. he’s thirteen and he cares about her so much. she wipes away tears and hugs him. riley feels warm even on a night as cold as this one. he never wants her heart to break. he does everything he can to make sure it doesn’t. “i love you, farkle,” riley says. “and i love you,” he answers. and again, she hears him, but he knows she means as friends, so he means that too. she wipes her tears one last time before her date appears. farkle’s decided what to do. he’s putting her happiness first because he loves her; he really does.
IV. he’s fifteen and she might move thousands of miles away. he’s up all night thinking of ways she could stay. he tosses and turns in bed and knows that if she leaves, he’ll never be the same. the next day, he tells her he loves her: past, present, and future. “thank you, farkle,” riley says and then lightheartedly reminds him he has a girlfriend. he knows that and of course he cares about her. but when riley’s mom says they’re not going anywhere, absolutely nothing else matters.
V. he’s sixteen and they’re sitting on her bedroom floor. his girlfriend broke up with him and he was fine until he saw her with someone else. farkle swears he’s okay, but she knows him too well. its not long before she gets a real smile out of him. they sit and talk and talk and talk until their eyelids get heavy. the sun rises and the rays come through the window to wake him. riley’s head is on his shoulder and he’s careful not to move her. he’s never stopped loving her. “riley?” he whispers. she’s still asleep. “i love you, riley,” he says.
VI. he’s seventeen and it’s a rainy day. the usual group, minus riley, is sitting in the cafeteria. when she walks in, her hair is slightly wet from the rain. “hey guys!” she says to the her friends. “sorry i’m late, i had to go talk to my dad. did i miss anything?” zay begins to tell everyone about his french presentation. they all listen and laugh, but farkle can’t stop looking at riley. she’s laughing and combing through her hair with fingers. he really loves her. when the day is over, farkle walks riley home. it’s like any other day, except his heart is beating fast and he’s not sure he can feel his hands anymore. he’s going to tell her. “hey, riley, do you mind if we take the long way home?” he asks. “yeah! the weather’s really nice today!” she exclaims. they walk slowly, taking in the view. riley looks at the clouds in the sky. farkle looks at riley. they keep walking and riley interlocks her arm with farkle’s. “don’t you just love the way everything feels after the rain?” she says. “the earth smells fresh, and the trees are all dewy, and there’s puddles everywh—” “i love you, riley,” he interrupts. “well, okay, that came out of nowhere, but i love you, too, farkle. you’re my best friend,” she smiles at him and keeps walking. “no, riley.” they stop again. “listen to me. i love you, love you. like, since the first grade and you know that, but i don’t just mean i love you like i love maya or like i love my computer. i mean i love you, love you, ri—” “farkle,” she interrupts him, holds his face, and kisses him. “i love you. love you, too.”

It’s kinda been a while but here’s a short headcanon/deleted scene that takes place in GM Boy/GM Texas Pt. 3 that kind of explains the “Farkle how do you know about that you weren’t even there” quote. Because yes Farkle, it does matter.
Words: 509
Rating K: it’s kinda angsty but that’s it
In which he knows how it feels.
As she stands in front of you, trying so hard not to cry you remember the moment when you stood back. You refuse to let her do the same.
You weren’t there when she met him. No, you were doodling mindlessly in the quiet classroom that always been a sort of sanctuary for you. So when Riley and Maya burst into the room about ten minutes late, you don’t know that your universe has just shifted on its axis. There’s no evidence of that yet, the evidence forgot to get off on the right stop. Maya is being her usual disruptive self and Riley, bless her soul, is trying to prove to her father that she’s nothing like him. Everything is nice and normal until he walks in, accompanied by a flurry of whispers and too many loving glances for a kid that’s been in the classroom that you rule supreme all of thirty seconds. You turn back to Riley’s dad who remains unconcerned so you decide to follow stride.
You weren’t there when she met him, but you were there when she fell for him in that dark library. You were there to watch the way she slowly lifted her eyes to meet his. You watched the connection form all the while you couldn’t do anything about it or the nauseous feeling in your stomach. You watch the way her heart eyes morph into something more deeper and meaningful than you could have anticipated. You might have secured your post as number one in her father’s class, but Lucas Friar just square danced his way into the only place that really counts, her heart.
The next night you bypass her window, instead going to her young but wise sibling’s window. Auggie’s face is somber as he talks to you.
“I saw her face Farkle. I may be only this many,” he holds up a small hand, all five fingers splayed. “But I know what I saw. It’s the same mommy looks at daddy, the same way I look at Ava.” The same way you look at her, Auggie doesn’t say it but you both think it. “It’s hopeless.”
It sucks to hear that from Riley’s brother. To know that the girl you’ve loved since the first grade has left you for a prettier more masculine cowboy. It sucks that you’ve never had a claim on her in the first place.
You hand Super Spy Auggie his standard fee. He refuses to take it, pushing the candy back into your cold hand. Somehow, that makes it worse.
“I’m sorry Farkle.”
“Yeah,” you whisper, “so am I.”
Little do you know it’s going to get worse when she's ripped to shreds by a triangle that is really a silent quadrilateral.
What you do know, is there’s no stopping her. It’s Maya. It’s Lucas. She’ll suffer, and she’ll be glad to do it in silence.  God knows you did the same. So you stand there in the middle of the courtyard and let her make a choice, just like you once did.

Riarkle
I've shipped Riarkle since their GM Flaws scene. I saw how they cared about each other, supported each other and how Farkle and Riley could give each other the universe. I shipped them so hard however after GM First Date and seeing spoilers for the beginning of season 2 I got angry and lost all hope. Our fandom was so small. I started getting hope after I read theories, which opened my eyes to how compelling and deep the show really is. I learned more lessons about surface level and perception and there were unmissable, unmistakable hints of riarkle (and lucaya) that we never noticed because we focused on the surface level. I'm proud of our ship and how far it's come. From a crack ship barely anyone shipped or thought they would happen to a legit ship that a lot more people love and realised how beautiful riarkle really is. It's so amazing how time passes and things change. How their relationship has grown so much into something poetic. Riarkle is my Pluto and I have hope that one day my Pluto will come through for me but even if it doesn't, Riarkle will always be endgame in my heart.

Farkle: But I know what the big question is? Did Riley, and I ever get married? Well I am happy to say after years and years of asking, I finally said yes.
Riley: Farkle!
Farkle: Okay, okay. I asked her.
Riley: And we're living happily ever after!
Farkle: Yes we are.

Because You’re Perfect
(Another one of my old ones XsparkleXfarkleyx aka Jess)
Rated t: riarkle
Because You’re perfect.
A few weeks had past since the ski lodge, and Cory wasn't wrong about nature things had gone a whole different then any of them ever would of thought.
Smackle , and Farkle broke up mutually when they realized that when it came to their minds, or scientifically they were compatible. It just wasn't enough , and they both decided to separate to seek out what was missing. Annoyingly though Smackle kept telling Farkle to just keep looking in front of him randomly scaring the crap out of him a few times.
Riley got her dream come true when Lucas told her had chosen her after Maya sent him, but she turned him down noticing that things had changed . All she could see when imagining her Future was Farkle in Lucas's place , and instead of it scaring her it felt like it was always suppose to be that way. Though Riley would have to keep it locked down since she would never hurt Smackle.
Maya got to have her moment with Josh, but the Riley came in with Lucas in tow. After all this time Riley had remembered she never asked Maya what she wanted. After pressing Maya for what felt like hours she admitted she only sent Lucas away not wanting to ever hurt Riley. Then Lucas admitted he still really liked Maya, and now that's all history.
Farkle found out all of this last which upset him more then he let on of course. Even worse he heard it from Yogi all of this had gone down with his best friends, and He was once again left behind to not be apart of the story. Farkle not being able to sleep when down to go sit in the bay window for awhile . He could only blame Riley for that being his choice of place to try to think. Sparkle really wanted to figure out why he was never enough, or why he couldn't just love Smackle like he should have. When he got to the last step he saw a figure, and he sense it was Riley . For a split second he thought about just backing up the stairs not really being in the mood to talk to anybody from the group.
“Farkle is that you?” Riley called out softly.
Farkle wondered how she knew it was him as she walked over to her. As always she was giving him this huge loving smile, and Right now he just didn't get why she would be doing that. “Yep. I guess you couldn't sleep either?”
Riley just shook her head “Today was long...I think part is still processing it all.” Riley would always put her friendship first when it came to Farkle, and He was her favorite person to talk to.
“Yeah...I heard from yogi.” Farkle tried his best to sound not as upset as he was feeling.
“Farkle what's wrong?” Riley caught on right away he was hiding something
Farkle tried to think quickly of something to say, and he almost wanted to face palm on how he hadn't thought of that right away. “Me, and Smackle broke up yesterday.”
Riley reached over taking his hand in his as her face filled with sadness , and a little anger “Yesterday? And you are just telling me now?!? Are you okay? What happen?”
There she goes again putting her hand In mine he thought before pulling his hand from hers putting them both in his lap. “It was mutual. We both just agreed that something was missing, and we will remain friends.”
When Farkle pulled his hand away Riley frowned thinking he was hiding upset from the break up she pressed on. “Why won't you actually talk to me about this Farkle? You know you can talk to me about anything. I'm always here for you, and You are the most important guy in my life.”
Something in the last sentence made something in Farkle let his button slip just enough that these words fell out of his mouth before even his genius brain could catch them “Because I'm not apart of the story anymore.”
Riley tilted her head being all sorts of confused now “Farkle what do you even mean?”
Farkle stood up quickly trying to keep his heart from trying to escape out of his throat. “It means nothing Riley don't worry about ...I'm going to go to bed.”
“No you're not going anywhere Farkle until you talk to me...We don't leave.” Riley really wanted more then anything just to make him feel better. It was hard to watch the person you are in love with have so much hurt in there eyes.
Farkle wanted so badly to walk away, but Riley had this hold on him that he would never be able to explain. Being defeated he retook his seat next to her at the bay window still remaining quiet.
“Farkle I love you will you please talk to me?” Riley's voice was so soft this time. She wasn't used to Farkle not wanting to be close to her, and her worry was growing each second that passed.
Farkle scooted a bit closer so their knees were touching as he bit his lip trying to figure out how one girl had him figured out so well. He knew the answer, but why out of all the people on the planet did she always want to be around him so much.
“Farkle Focus...What did you mean by you are not apart of the story?” Placing her hands on his knees to let him know she was solely focused on him hoping he would pull out of his daze.
Clearing his throat Farkle swallowed hard glancing down at Riley's hands on his knees, but he didn't move them this time.  “Back when were kids I loved you, and Maya the same. Around 7th grade It hit me I did love you equally, but I didn't love you both the same. I knew most of all though I needed you in my life, and I hoped one day I would have chance. I watched all these movies, and read all these stories just to remind myself it does happen. Keep in my mind I still wouldn't of gone anywhere. Everything was great it was me you and Maya against the world . How could I ever want anything better then that, but then the face showed up. Since then little by little I've been pushed out of the story  even friendship wise...I hate that I found out about what happen earlier today from Yogi.”
Farkle quickly added “And yes I did just admit I love you...and is my heart suppose to pound this fast?” His heart had never felt that way when he was with Smackle, and that's when it hit him what Smackle meant. Smackle was in no doubt smarter then him, and he really wanted to thank her for her constant reminders to keep looking in front of you. Riley was the reason his heart was hers, and he could never fully get it back or at least not until he asked Riley a few questions.
“Farkle I'm sorry...If it makes you feel any better the only reason I didn't come talk to you is the reason why I said no to Lucas.” Riley let his knees go as she stood up pacing a bit now her nerves going overboard. “The reason I said no to Lucas was I keep seeing you no matter how hard I tried.” Riley got closer to him as she motion him all over. “ All I saw was you, because it took me getting the fantasy too see the real thing was always right behind me.”
Farkle thought he might be dreaming as he pinched himself quickly. Nope he felt pain so this was really happening. Somehow Riley was dreaming of him over Lucas . Farkle still sitting gave Riley a very serious look which she knew meant he was thinking. “Why is it always me? Lucas is Mr. Perfect, Hes the jock, Hes the Face, and Hes the cowboy . So why am I the one you call when your sad? Why am I the one you are dreaming off? I am just me. I am nerdy . I love space , and I think science can explain most things. I have a normal  face, and I'm not the hero I''m just a Minkus.”
One fluid motion, and Riley was on Farkle's lap her hands on his face so he couldn't turn away “For one you will never think about yourself like that again. You are so much more then that. You are perfect Farkle just the way you are.”
Maybe it was because he had Riley Matthews on his lap or he might actually be having  a heart attack he started to feel super light headed as he locked his eyes on hers. “You think I'm perfect?” Farkle said in barely whisper as it felt like the world had melted away. He was still afraid it might be some kind of dream, but if it was he didn't want to wake up.
Riley giggled as she let go of his face her eyes lighting up as she stared at him “Of course I do . You are Farkle, and there is only one. I mean I also think I'm in love with you or that  I have been for awhile I'm still working out some details.” Riley whole face flushed red as she didn't know what to do next.
Trying to defer some of the serious now Farkle smiled at her trying to brave his nerves “I would argue with you, but only someone who is perfect can truly see perfection.” Farkle's hands wrapped around her waist almost like they had a mind of their own.
Riley felt a shiver as Farkle's hands wrapped around her waist like it was the first time that had been that close. “You think I'm perfect?” Riley said copying Farkle's words.
“ You know I do.” Farkle answered with no hesitation then he gently put his lips on hers, and that was it everything clicked. Nothing was confusing anymore, and both knew they were exactly where they were meant to be.
They both pulled away at the same time as Farkle saw her face making his heart stop, and his breathe  got caught in his throat. After all these years Riley was staring at him like a girl in love does, and it was more then worth the wait. He had to ask her, and even he knows it might be a bit fast. Maybe he had watch when Harry met Sally to much recently, but the quote about how you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible just kept echoing in his head.
“Farkle you okay?” He had dazed out again with this huge smile on his face so at least she knew he liked it. He responded by giving her a quick kiss “ Riley will you honor me by letting me be your boyfriend?” Farkle had decided to just got for it.
“YES!” she yelled loudly forgetting it was 2 am, and people were trying to sleep. The second time she said it quieter. “Yes the answer is yes.”
They both heard footsteps at the same time, and Riley automatically tried to get out of Farkle's lap. Farkle was the opposite he held onto her tighter his eyes waiting to see he got to find out about him, and Riley first.
A very sleepy looking Maya, Lucas, Smackle, Zay glared at them both. “Why are you yelling yes at 2am Riley?” They all thought it was funny they knew Riley's voice so well.
Farkle squeezed Riley giving her a reassuring smile before answering proudly. “Riley, and I are now dating. Also she thinks I'm perfect.” Farkle poofed out his chest.
All four of them at the same time say “ About time...” Maya leaned against Lucas as she yawned staring at Farkle, and Riley. “We all get its new for you guys, but we all knew. So please continue whatever it was you were doing. Just shut up or I'll get ya both! .” Maya begged Lucas into carrying her back up the stairs, and even though he complained you could see how much he loved it.
Smackle gave Farkle a thumbs up, and a proud smile which solidified that he had figured out what Smackle meant. He was also relieved that she hadn't gotten hurt that is something he would never want to do to smackle.
Riley, and Farkle spent the rest of night just talking about anything while they cuddled, and kissed. At some point they had both fallen asleep, and were found in the bay window by Topanga still holding each other Riley's head on Farkle's chest.
Topanga thought they looked so cute so she took a few pictures when Cory walked up behind her. “Hey bab...W..” Topanga turned around covering his mouth. “Cor Don't they innocently fell asleep talking it's not like its the first time we've caught them asleep together.” she then let go trusting him to be quiet. “Yes, but now their” Cory twitched “Dating.”
“I know honey we were both there on that couch listening. I had to keep you from jumping over the couch when you heard them kiss but, They are good kids so don't worry about it so much” Topanga gave him a kiss as he smiled at her, and let her win for now. As he walked out the door to start getting things ready to go he hit the wooden door, and yelled “NATURE”

sign my yearbook?
riley’s been hiding her feelings for farkle for far too long. it’s the end of senior year and everyone is signing yearbooks. it’s now or never, riley.
riley matthews sat in front of the bright computer screen in the uncomfortable but familiar desk chair. she was putting the final touches on the last yearbook she’d ever work on. it was satisfying and saddening all at once.
as she clicked through the pages, she felt like high school was gone faster than riley could count to ten. she could still recall the first day of her freshman year, and how the halls felt so much bigger then. riley and her friends were seniors now. soon, they’d be moving on and closing this crazy but wonderful chapter of their lives.
she was lost in thought, reminiscing about the last four years of her life when the classroom door opened and broke her daydream.
“hey, riley. sorry i’m late. the math club meeting ran longer than i thought it would. what are you doing and how can i help?” farkle asked with a smile.
“i’m just looking over the last few pages and thinking about the last few years of our lives.”
“i can help with both of those things!” he said as he sat beside her. “we’ve had some good times, haven’t we?”
“yes, yes we have,” she grinned.
“so, after proofing these pages we’re done?”
“i think so. i don’t see anything else that needs changing but i’ve been looking at the pages too long, can you check before we finalize it?”
farkle nodded his head and went to work. his brow furrowed as he concentrated and riley caught herself staring at him. he ran a hand through his hair. he straightened his back. she traced his profile with her gaze, his face illuminated with the white light of the screen in front of them. she looked at his hands on the wooden desk. she thought about holding them for the millionth time. how long was she going to keep her feelings from him?
“can you hand me that folder over there?” he asked pointing to riley’s left and breaking the silence.
“here you go.” she handed it to him.
their hands touched and lingered for moment before farkle shuffled through the papers inside the folder. that alone was enough to send a kaleidoscope of butterflies to her stomach. riley bit her lip and looked down, in case her face gave away what she was going on inside. did he feel electricity in his fingers the way she did?
“thanks. you know what i just realized? this is the last time we’ll ever be sitting here after school.”
“i know! before you got here, i was just thinking ‘this is the last time farkle will be late to a yearbook meeting!’ and i thought about how great it’ll be to not have to wait on you,” she teased, quickly putting aside her feelings. she was used to it by now.
“hey! i have a lot of things to do! and i’m not always late! and even if am late, i’m always here! riley, have i ever not been here for you when you need me?” he put his hand on her knee.
“no. you’re always here, farkle,” she said, trying to ignore her rapid heartbeat. “always.”
//
the yearbooks were being distributed and riley couldn’t help but feel a little emotional. she loved being editor and part of her didn’t ever want that to end. she looked around as the students passed their yearbooks to one another, pulling out pens and markers to sign them. they flipped through the pages and looked for themselves and their friends. she saw farkle walking towards her, yearbook in hand.
“hey, riley. sign my yearbook? you’re the last person i need a signature from."
"of course! but, i’m going to need some time. this is, you know, the last time i will ever sign a yearbook for you and a simple 'see ya later! have a great summer!’ won’t do. do you mind if i keep it for the rest of the day?"
"take as long as you need,” he said.
“coincidentally, you’re also the last person i need a signature from."
"well, if that’s the case, i’d like to take your yearbook for the day, as well, if it’s alright with you."
"it most definitely is.”
//
farkle, we’ve been friends since… no, too predictable.
i want to thank you for being my friend… no, too formal.
let’s always stay in touch… yikes.
dearest farkley,… okay, no. you cannot start telling him you love him by calling him farkley. just speak from the heart, matthews. come on. you can do it.
farkle,  your presence in my life has meant the world to me. i know you’ve loved me since the first grade. and you know i love you, but it’s time you know how. i’m sorry it took me so long to figure it out, even sorrier it took me this long to let you know. i love you with no restrictions, limits, or restraints. in turtlenecks and in black hoodies. on earth, pluto, mars, or any other planet in every other galaxy. i never want you not in my life. my mom told me once that love is a choice. it’s choosing someone over and over. well, if that’s true, then you’re the only choice. no contest. you make everything better and brighter. i love you. i’m in love with you. always, riley
she put her pen down and sighed. what was done was done. she wrote it down and there was no going back now.
riley dreaded the next day at school. she walked into the building and saw her friends standing by her dad’s classroom. she locked eyes with farkle and swore she couldn’t feel her legs anymore. by the end of the day, he’d know how she felt.
“hey, here you go.” he handed over the yearbook. "are you done writing yet? i’m really looking forward to reading what you wrote me.“
"i am, but can you promise me something?"
"anything."
"don’t read it until you get home.”
“is everything okay?"
"everything’s fine. just promise me, please?"
"i promise.”
she gave him his yearbook and the matter was officially out of her hands.
//
“he’s probably already read it, maya,” riley declared.
the pair were sitting in the bay window, with riley’s head in maya’s lap.
“no, he hasn’t. he’s farkle. he promised. and we know he’s not home yet, so he hasn’t read it."
"he read it and he doesn’t feel the same and he feels weird and i ruined our friendship and everyone’s plans for the summer and nothing will ever be the same ever again and it’s all my fault and–"
"breathe, riles! i’m sure only one of those things is true."
"which one?"
"nothing will ever be the same, but for the better. trust me."
"maya, i need farkle in my life. what if he doesn’t need me?” she asked quietly.
“farkle needs you just as much, maybe more,” she assured her.
“i gotta get going, honey. i’ll be back tomorrow morning. call me if you need anything.”
“thanks, peaches. be safe.”
maya climbed out the window and disappeared from view. riley took her yearbook out of her backpack and sat on her bed. she flipped through the pages for the millionth time. when riley had first read farkle’s note in her yearbook, she found it hard not to be upset. what he’d written was lovely, but far from the declaration of love she’d hoped he’d write to match her own.
she leaned back and stared at the ceiling. there was nothing riley could do but wait.
//
after a while, she heard her window open.
“you’re back already, maya?” she asked without looking.
“umm… no,” he said.
“farkle. hi,” she said as she sat up.
“hi,” he said. he took a seat next to her and said nothing else.
riley couldn’t wait for him to break the silence anymore. “listen, i know i shouldn’t have written all that. we’ve been friends for years and i don’t want that to change and if—"
"riley!"
"yes?”
“can i talk?"
"okay."
"we’ve been friends for a very long time. we’ve grown up together. and as we’ve grown, a lot of things have changed. we’ve all learned and evolved and had all these experiences, but there’s one thing that hasn’t ever changed. i don’t think i realized it until recently, but maybe part of me has always known. i never said anything because after all this time i never thought you’d feel the same, but i have been in love with you since the first grade, riley. i always will be."
"really?” was all riley could say. her eyes were bright.
“really.” he smiled and held her hand.
“so, where do we go from here? i mean, we graduate in a few weeks. we have the summer, and then what?"
"i don’t know. but for now? you and me? that sounds perfect."
"you and me,” she confirmed, “and maya."
that made him laugh. "yes, of course, and maya.”

Farkle: I'm telling you, she is more of a treasure than you could possibly know. She is not just some wholesome, small town girl, some like, good for you breath of fresh air. Lucas, she is a wonderful person with a huge heart. And the kind of beauty that a guy only sees once, you know? Once! So Lucas, if there is even a chance that you could break her heart, please, just for her sake, walk away man.
Lucas: I could never break Riley's heart, ok?
Farkle: Good. Because if you do I swear to God I will tear you to pieces with my bare hands. Or vicious rhetoric.
Lucas: You're a good guy Farkle.
Farkle: Well yes. Apparently not good enough.

excerpts from riley’s dream journal
(alternatively titled: how she realized she was in love)
i don’t really know what i was thinking when i wrote this, but here it is.
i. i was in a forest and the trees were filled with fireflies. zay and smackle were trying to catch them in small glass jars. lucas was sitting on the ground with his back against a tree, smiling. maya was sketching the whole scene. i was laying on the floor, staring into the night. i watched as the lightning bugs mixed with the stars in the sky. and farkle. farkle was laying next to me singling out mars from the array of sparkling specks.
ii. i haven’t had a nightmare in a long time. i even asked auggie to come sleep in my room. farkle was in a car accident. i went to the hospital and could see him from afar. he was asleep in the cold hospital bed. i was running through the halls but no matter how fast i ran, i couldn’t reach him. he kept getting farther and farther.
iii. i keep having dreams about dances. this one in particular is kind of strange though. in this one, maya and i are in the middle of getting ready. i’m fixing my hair and maya is putting on her heels. maya’s wearing a red dress that tells me we’re in the eighth grade again. everything is normal so far. then, i hear my mom’s voice say “girls, they’re here!” from the living room. finishing touches on makeup, one last look in the mirror, a selfie, and we go meet our dates. then, lucas and farkle! farkle! maya was going to the dance with farkle! if anyone was going to that dance with farkle it’d be, well, me. was i the one going with farkle? maybe i was. i can’t seem to recall… either way… it’s weird, right?
iv. i dreamed in black and white. i don’t think that’s ever happened before. i was walking down the street at night, taking the familiar path home from school. the city looked beautiful and as i was turning the corner i heard music. i can’t remember the what song was playing anymore, but i remember loving it. it felt like it was part of me. the longer i walked, the louder the music became. i woke up thinking about farkle. i’m not sure why.
v. i had another dream in black and white. this time i was sitting outside the bakery, drinking a cup of hot chocolate. i watched the snow fall. everything was completely silent. then, suddenly, music starts. at first it’s quiet, but it builds and builds until it fills everything. the black and white filter fades away. i look to the stairs and someone’s coming. he’s the music… or at least he’s the one bringing it. i wake up. it’s farkle. it’s always been farkle.
