For just $34.95 Doll quilt measures approximately 21 inches x 24 3/4 inches. The quilt will wrap fully around a doll 15 inches and smaller, including American Girl’s Bitty Twin or Bitty Baby. For the top, I used cotton quilting in a variety of bright colors for the four-patches and cerulean blue with a subtle leaf-and-vine print for the larger squares. I backed it in a coordinating bright blue floral, and used a bright cherry red floral for the borders. The pattern I chose is a variation on the traditional patchwork four-patch, and with this vivid color scheme, it reminds of a flower garden in summer. To make the fabrics the focal point, I machine quilted the entire piece. As the batting is 80% cotton/20% polyester, the quilt is machine washable and dryable. It has not been pre-washed. Care instructions: machine wash cold on a gentle cycle; tumble dry low or air dry. Some shrinkage may occur. Ships free to the US. Please see below for international shipping costs. My mother, Zohra Arastu, created this miniature quilt for the International Quilt Exchange 2018. The purpose of the project is to cross borders and cultures with quilts around the globe. Her inspiring statement accompanying her quilt: “I am a Muslim -- born in India -- and my work is inspired by my heritage, and the natural beauty and architecture of my land. My mother encouraged me to sew from the time I was six years old so I say, ‘if something can be sewn, I can sew it.’ The International Quilt Contest has inspired me to create with different materials: batik, polysuede, trim, metallic, and polyester threads. I have appliqued and embellished with various machine embroidery stitches. I also enjoyed the free-motion embroidery and hand-stitching the beads and sequins to give a sparkle. The peacock is the national bird of India and with its grace and vivid coloration, it is the epitome of the diverse culture of India unified in one creature. I have always loved the peacock and therefore decided to make it the focal point of my quilt. The paisley is another ubiquitous design in India and it is a symbol for the many indigenous varieties of mangoes. I have always had an infatuation with paisleys so my quilt could not be complete without it. When making little quilts, you are always mindful of too much hemming and layers- too much means the quilt won’t hand on a miniature bed right. It ends up looking like a hot pad. Years ago I decided to quit adding batting in between the layers to help alleviate this problem. As a quilter that didn’t seem right. But as a Miniaturist, I had to adapt to quilts that are 5” x 5” in size.
