Mini Megillah Monday!
Sometimes, you just have to make it yourself. That's what Robert E. Massmann did in 1968 when he wanted a miniature Megillah. This is copy 76 of 100.
A Megillah is a scroll containing the Book of Esther. It is traditionally read during Purim (which starts this week), a Jewish holiday that celebrates how Queen Esther was able to save her people from being killed by the advisor to her husband, Haman. To celebrate Purim, many people read the Megillah, eat hamantaschen (pastries shaped like Haman's hat), and dress up in costumes.
Housed in a beautiful wooden casing, the paper comprising the scroll is over three feet long! As you can see in the video, the scroll is able to be easily rerolled using the metal handle. As someone who has helped reroll scrolls before, we definitely appreciate this technology!

For #MiniatureMonday we present: Ms. Codex 724! This 13th century French Bible isn't miniature, but it's chock full of little guys - guys in initials that illustrate biblical stories, guys in the margin, and even guys hanging out between the columns. You can see more of them in the digitized copy, available through the record link.

Miniature Monday: A 1907 portrait of Matheson Lang in costume as Dick Dudgeon, the anti-hero of George Bernard Shaw's The Devil's Disciple. I noted on BlueSky that the character "sounds like a poor little meow meow if I've ever seen one" because the plot of the play is that he's shunned by his family and shuns them right back, but then he's arrested in place of someone else who hates him and is still prepared to go to the gallows for the guy. You just KNOW he was the blorbo of many young women, especially with that Byronic mien.
I suspect someone decided to make an 18thc-style miniature of the actor because the play is set in the 1770s. Fanart, really. It's fanart.

Spent far to long on this model but I'm very, very, VERY pleased with how well it turned out. This particular model is a commissioned print and paint request from my Etsy shop. The stl file is from Bite the Bullet Studio called 'Seraphim of Valor'.
Please, enjoy ❤️

Belated birthday post. I'm old enough now to need readers when I paint, which has been a weird adjustment.

This is the smallest book I've found in our rare book collection! Aunt Rose and Her Nieces was part of the Tiny Library series published from 1858-1869 by Merriam, Moore, & Co in Troy, NY.
Other small scale books from the series included The Life of General Tom Thumb, Dew Drops, and the Holy Bible.

Happy Art Monday!
This week has been super hectic with preparations for launching my company, so I didn’t have time to start a new drawing. Instead, I tackled my gray pile of shame and painted some minis—here's a few pics of my slowly growing army of Battle Sisters!
I also gathered more pose references for future projects, but I’m not sure when I'll be able to start something new because my husband and I are traveling to Greece soon to visit my parents and do some sightseeing. We’ll be back at the end of September, and I might not be able to stick to my usual Monday and Thursday posts, depending on the internet situation.
Lastly, I revisited an old obsession with X-Men after seeing Deadpool & Wolverine for my birthday—it’s reignited a forgotten flame of inspiration, so you might see some X-Men-related art in the future (and it may have something to do with the resources I’ve been hoarding 😉).
Catch you later, and thanks for all the support!

Happy Mini Monday folks!
Better late than never, but...
Welcome back from Spring Break everyone! If you feel like remembering chemical properties and the electromagnetic spectrum is tough after that week off, come visit Special Collections and Archives to check out this mini book!
From the Pocket Professor series, "2000 Chemistry Terms and Concepts" was created by College Lane Publishers in 1984. It includes terms and concepts from general, organic, analytics, spectroscopy, chromatology, and electrochemistry. The spine shows signs of wear, and this book features two personal bookplates from former owners.
This is a rather thick mini book at approximately 54mm x 59mm x 17mm. It includes 347 pages packed with chemistry-related knowledge. While called the Pocket Professor, I'm not entirely sure just how well this would fit into someone's pocket!
Banana for scale!

Today's #MiniatureMonday is this little 14th century Italian Psalter. The 'miniature' in this case is an inhabited initial and marginal decorations, in part illustrating the hunt (look for dogs, the fox and a rabbit in the bottom margin) This is a Ferial Psalter - in addition to the psalms, it includes antiphons and other prayers. (Ms. Codex 1057)
