Here is the NEW post that was lost amongst all the old ones!
For #MiniatureMonday we present: Ms. Codex 724! This 13th century French Bible isn't miniature, but it's chock full of little guys - guys in initials that illustrate biblical stories, guys in the margin, and even guys hanging out between the columns. You can see more of them in the digitized copy, available through the record link.

Pegasus by John Peter Lathourakis
Was anybody else a horse girl growing up? This wonderful mini book was created by John Peter Lathourakis in 1986 at the Tabula Rasa Press in Morro Bay, California. Measuring in at 39 x 48 mm, it tells the story of Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythological fame.
Printed in brown on pale blue paper, this book also features illustrations in brown, silver, or orange ink. The type for this book is 4-point Century composed on a Linotype machine! It was printed on archival paper and hand bound. Of the 150 copies of Lathourakis' Pegasus, UISpecColl has number 34.
Housed alongside the book is a metal figure of Pegasus. This mini stallion stands a whopping .2 hands which is about .8 inches (or 20 mm) for those not acquainted with horse measurements. In total, the figure measures 38 x 30 mm.
Banana is in transit for proper scale measurements, but in the meantime, please enjoy this book snake for scale!

Once upon a time I posted about some Dead By Daylight hooks that I was painting. Well I finally finished them!
These were a challenge to my surprise. I naively thought they would be easy and I'd finish them in a day because "they're only terrain pieces". I was so so wrong. Initially I tried to make them all different but ended up not liking the results. So instead I started over and re-painted the like models the same and added blood to one of them for a before/after situation with a survivor getting hooked by a killer. I'm pretty satisfied with the results!
I did discover that my blood effects paint was completely dried up in the bottle so I had to improvise with some dragon red and pure red paint. Looks like I have an excuse to order more paints and also work on my blood techniques in case I ever need blood but don't have effects paint again. I've been too spoiled. 😁

Belated birthday post. I'm old enough now to need readers when I paint, which has been a weird adjustment.

This is the smallest book I've found in our rare book collection! Aunt Rose and Her Nieces was part of the Tiny Library series published from 1858-1869 by Merriam, Moore, & Co in Troy, NY.
Other small scale books from the series included The Life of General Tom Thumb, Dew Drops, and the Holy Bible.

Happy Art Monday!
This week has been super hectic with preparations for launching my company, so I didn’t have time to start a new drawing. Instead, I tackled my gray pile of shame and painted some minis—here's a few pics of my slowly growing army of Battle Sisters!
I also gathered more pose references for future projects, but I’m not sure when I'll be able to start something new because my husband and I are traveling to Greece soon to visit my parents and do some sightseeing. We’ll be back at the end of September, and I might not be able to stick to my usual Monday and Thursday posts, depending on the internet situation.
Lastly, I revisited an old obsession with X-Men after seeing Deadpool & Wolverine for my birthday—it’s reignited a forgotten flame of inspiration, so you might see some X-Men-related art in the future (and it may have something to do with the resources I’ve been hoarding 😉).
Catch you later, and thanks for all the support!

Today's #MiniatureMonday is this little 14th century Italian Psalter. The 'miniature' in this case is an inhabited initial and marginal decorations, in part illustrating the hunt (look for dogs, the fox and a rabbit in the bottom margin) This is a Ferial Psalter - in addition to the psalms, it includes antiphons and other prayers. (Ms. Codex 1057)

Black Man's Verse
Happy Mini Monday! Today's item is Black Man's Verse, a book of poetry by Frank Marshall Davis made mini by Norman W. Forgue at Black Cat Printing in 1961. This mini book is larger than the last few mini Mondays, coming in at around 66mm x 59mm.
Bound by Monastery Hill Bindery using black leather, this book was printed using handmade paper from England. The title on the spine is gilt which means that it has a very fine layer of gold leaf or paint inlaid. The typefaces used were Linotype Caledonia, Bodoni Bold, and Foundry Ultra Bodoni. It was completed in February 1961, so happy 64th birthday to this beautiful mini!
Originally published in 1935, Black Man's Verse was revolutionary. It was lauded for his portrayal of black life and pride by critics such as Harriet Monroe. Dudley Randall, another literary critic, referred to him as the father of modern Black poetry.
Frank Marshall Davis was a journalist, poet, activist, and businessman. You can check out some of his other works in collections such as I Am the American Negro, Awakening, and Other Poems, and 47th Street.
For more information about Davis, please check out this biography by the Poetry Foundation: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poets/frank-marshall-davis
