I feel like the Pandava sisters love Rudy. Like, he's their friend, he makes Mini happy. They do love him.

But they do NOT like him. On a certain level they can't stand his guts. Like, he has a strange ability to annoy them all at once. Aru can respect him as a pranking partner, but that's as far as it goes. Brynne's fight or fight response is triggered when he opens his mouth. Nikita's filled with a homicidal rage whenever she sees his outfits. Sheela just vibes with him. She finds it fun to play psychological games with him. An average conversation between the two goes somewhat like:

S: Hey, Rudy, have this perfectly normal drink that I haven't tampered with at all.

R, suspicious: Did.... you put something in this?

S: No, like I said, I haven't put laxatives in it at all. I just took it out of the fridge, poured it in the glass and I'm giving it to you.

R: ...no thanks.

He's paranoid. The drink is just a soda that, like Sheela had said, had not been tampered with at all.

Later:

M: Sheela why were you trying to poison my boyfriend???

S, to R: I WAS NOT YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE I WAS TRYING TO BE NICE TO MY FUTURE BROTHER IN LAW

M: ....Uh. [red in the face] just. Don't put laxatives in his soda.

someone tapped her shoulder, and mini whirled around in surprise. as soon as she saw who was behind her, a grin broke out onto her face.

"rudy! you came!"

her date rubbed the back of his neck. "of course i did. i mean, getting here was hard and all, but..." he trailed off, silently staring at mini. she hoped she wasn't doing the same.

rudy was wearing a black suit with matching dress pants and violet accents on the cuffs of the sleeves and the collar. in the front pocket of his suit poked out the tiny petals of a hyacinth. "did i do too much? i wasn't sure what to wear. after all, it's my first time going to something like this prom."

mini shook her head, feeling slightly underdressed. she was wearing a strapped violet dress with a ruffled skirt that went down to her knees. for something made by her younger pandava sister, nikita, it was quite simple, and paired with a touch of makeup, mini didn't exactly stand out from the rest of the crowd.

she quickly realized rudy's hand was behind his back, and he must have remembered at the same time, because he blinked a few times, and then pulled out a bouquet of flowers. "for y-you," he said, and mini could tell he was disappointed in himself for stuttering.

mini gratefully accepted the bouquet, admiring the beautiful purple hues of the flowers. amethysts were carefully placed in between each one, and mini didn't even have to listen to imagine the beautiful song they must have played. probably a melody played by a piano, with a violin weaving in between to create a soothing harmony. rudy knew sounds, and mini, and probably knew exactly what type of music delighted her. "i love it, rudy. thank you." he smiled radiantly, and mini pulled him into a hug.

setting her gift aside, mini led her date over to the food table, where snacks of all kinds were artfully arranged. but even before getting within two feet of the table, he claimed, "i'm not hungry."

mini frowned. "are you sure? because the food here is really good." he shook his head, and mini decided to accept. "fine, but i won't let you go more than an hour without eating." rudy nodded in response, thoughtful.

"should we dance?" rudy asked, motioning toward the center of the gymnasium, where couples from her high school spun each other around, joyously.

yes, mini, you should dance, said her consciousness. so she pushed her worries aside and confidently replied with, "um, sure."

fast forward to one slow song, three clumsy missteps, and a heap of giggles coming from mini's mouth as rudy smiled sheepishly. during that time, she had learned that he was not a good dancer, no matter how suave the royal tried to seem. and it wasn't like she was very good either, so she decided to do something else.

"let's go sit over there." mini pointed at an empty table near the wall. rudy followed her over, and they settled into their seats.

"do you want to, uh, talk about something?" rudy prompted.

mini bit her lip. asking her to lead a conversation usually didn't sit well with most people, but rudy was someone who could bear to listen to her describing surgical processes for hours. and he knew about her dreams of going to medical school, so she started with, "my mom said she's considering getting me an internship."

rudy's eyes lit up with excitement for her, and they continued chatting about it for another ten minutes. his expression remained the same until mini added, "unfortunately, there are going to be germs everywhere, even on my face."

her date went silent, and mini wondered how her complaint could be taken differently than how she usually said it, which was all the time. rudy's gaze had gone astray, and mini fidgeted with her fingers until he declared, "i'm going to go," and head off toward an empty hallway.

mini caught up to him in less than three seconds, but they were already out of the gymnasium and in a darker corridor. "rudy, what's wrong? are you okay? is there something--"

"can i kiss you?"

mini sucked in a sharp breath, ogling at rudy. "what?" she managed to croak out.

"i said, can i kiss you? because it's been on my mind and i really want to do it, but only if that's okay with you."

"i don't know what to say."

"then here's me trying to convince you. i washed my mouth three times before coming here, mini. and i didn't dare drink any water, or eat any food. that's why i didn't touch anything at the table. and i know that's not how germs work, because they're everywhere, as you said before. but i did everything i could to make you feel better about this, but it's not going to work, and i'm embarrassing myself right now, and if aiden was here, he would be laughing at me, and--"

"yes."

rudy snapped his gaze to her. it was his turn to ask, "what?"

"i said, yes."

he opened his mouth as if to ask another question, but closed it a second later. even rudy knew not to argue with fate when it was leaning his way.

so instead, he carefully placed his hands on mini's back, and she held his arms to steady herself as he leaned in and pecked her lips. simple and delicate, and he lingered there for a moment.

reality caught up with mini like a freight train. she was kissing rudy. kissing rudy. kissing. rudy kissing. suddenly, her mind flashed back to a few years ago, when rudy had confessed to practicing kissing on a gem and choking on it. mini's mouth trembled, and her date quickly pulled away.

"what happened? did i do it wrong?"

mini shook her head repeatedly. "no, no, i was just thinking of your first kiss. with a rock."

it took him a moment to catch up, but when he did, rudy rolled his eyes. "you promised not to talk about that!"

"and i won't. hopefully, this was the best second kiss of your life, because for me, it was the best first."

rudy grinned at that. "it was."

mini gazed at his charming smile. "my prince," she declared dramatically.

"my queen," he replied, his voice soft. he grabbed her hand, twirling her around.

"my prince, don't think i forgot about the food table. will you finally eat now? humans can only go three days without eating food before they die, and i bet it's worse for half-nagas!"

they laughed together. it was a wonderful sound, a sound so wonderful that a stone could never capture it.

What songs the Potatoes (honorary members and Kara featured) are vibing with right now

Aru - "Mantra (Jennie)" / "Not Like Us (Kendrick Lamar)"

Aru is definitely a sucker for internet drama, so you know she's eating up "Not Like Us." She definitely enjoys how united the internet has become to laugh at Drake.

"Mantra" was added because I feel like Aru would definitely bias Jennie from Blackpink if she was a K-pop fan. "Mantra" has this very, "I'm a bad bitch, and I don't care what you have to say about it" vibe that I feel like Aru, after the entire series, definitely vibes with. The song itself was built to be an earworm, and it's something that's just meant to be danced to. Aru probably puts this song on while cleaning, which leads to her climbing onto the nearest surface to dance (which Aiden admires with a soft smile on his face).

Mini - "Box in the Ocean (Alessia Cara)"/"Your Love (Jisoo)"

"Box in the Ocean" goes into how the singer buries her emotions in a box hidden in the ocean. While I feel like Mini has definitely gotten better at handling her anxiety over the books, she would definitely still vibe with the sentiments expressed in the song: who you were in the past is still you. Also, "Box in the Ocean" has this very calm, groovy beat that I feel Mini would love.

"Your Love" has this very 2016 feel due to its calm EDM beat. The singer describes this very innocent, simple type of love. I feel like Mini, again, would just really like calmer pop songs. Plus, the song would definitely remind her of her relationship with Rudy.

Brynne - "On My Mama (Victoria Monet)"/"Noir (Sunmi)"

"On My Mama" is a very laid-back groovy song: it's something that would make anyone move their shoulders and nod their head with the beat. Brynne definitely plays this while she makes Hira and her dinner. Sometimes, she'll get really into dancing and pull Hira into it. Whatever they're doing would probably be considered the ugliest dancing in the world, but who's the world to judge what goes on in cozy kitchens.

"Noir" has similar music vibes to "On My Mama." I think Brynne would just like the chill, groovy vibes this song gives off in general. This specific subset of music is definitely something she would love to put on while cooking. Since Sunmi makes a lot of this type of music, I also head-canon Brynne to be a very big Sunmi fan.

Honorable Mentions: "28 Reasons (Seulgi)" [Brynne definitely got into this song because Hira was a Red Velvet fan, and now Brynne can't stop playing "28 Reasons."]

Rudy - "Big Dawgs (HanuMankind)"/"Rockstar (Lisa)"

"Big Dawgs" is a song Rudy loves to play to pretend he's tough. Every one of the Potatoes knows he's the biggest softie around, but they'll let him have this one. He listens to this while scouring through Otherworld shops to find Mini the perfect gift for their bi-weekly date.

"Rockstar" is similar to "Big Dawgs" in the sense that it's, at its core, a hype song. Rudy would love these types of songs because he loves to be hyped, point blank. I've always head-cannoned that Rudy and Mini get a dog together, and when they're both adults and Mini's out saving lives as a doctor/researcher, Rudy makes Alexa play "Rockstar" at full volume, dancing with their dog.

Aiden - "Von Dutch (Charli XCX)"/"Run for the Hills (Tate McRae)"

Lower the raised eyebrows: let me explain. Both of these songs are literally the definition of modern pop music. They're loud, they're fun. I firmly believe that Aiden became a professional photographer when he became older. To make some money, I think he'll often do gigs for models, so I feel like his music taste would evolve to involve these pop songs as that's what helps his models get into the mood for their photoshoots (if that makes sense. Can you tell I have no idea how the professional world of photography works?).

"Von Dutch" is a song that Aru got him into. Her amazon playlist would constantly be playing their house (because Amazon music has no ads), and after hearing "Von Dutch" once, he was hooked.

"Run for the Hills" was something he discovered after he fell in love with "It's okay, I'm okay." Sometimes, when this song plays, he'll start singing it as Aru dances. Aiden's beautiful voice mixed with Aru's awkward not-really-dancing makes for a lovely combination, if they do say so themselves.

Kara - "Hard to Love (Rose)"/ "Daisies (Katy Perry)"

Both of these songs build their base around guitar and powerful alto vocals. These are songs I think Kara would gravitate to as they're genuinely very wonderful songs, but they're tinged with a sense of melancholy I think she would appreciate.

"Hard to Love" is a song that she discovered while just casually listening to Blackpink's releases. Ever since then, her bias has been Rose.

"Daisies" is something she listens to when she's down. It's a way of reminding herself that through it all, she has grown, and she will always grow. I've always head-cannoned that if she ever reunited with the Potatoes, it would always be a while later. (Never mind that in my fic it's a few months later. We don't pay attention to inconsistencies like that.) By then, she would have learned how to build an effective support system around herself.

Honorable Mention: "City Lights (Bittermilk)" [She definitely lives in Chicago {because I love Chicago}, and whenever she does a late night drive, she puts on this song.]
