My and my dad's plot in the community garden is looking nice!

We have mini cilantro plants coming up (I can't eat them but my dad and brother and sister-in-law can), some lil radishes that we thinned out and I ate the greens off the ones we thinned like a little bunny rabbit, and some spinach and butter lettuce that we harvested half of as "baby greens" so the rest have room to get big.

We also planted three new rows. One each of more radishes, spinach, and butter lettuce.

Then we did a little anarchy gardening 🤭 I really want to grow strawberries and there was a bunch of strawberry plants growing in the path between plots which isn't any one gardener's property so we dug four of them up and planted them in our plot 🤭

I also ate a violet from the pathway. I might be a little bit bunny coded.

My partner is finally settling back with me in the new house and I feel very properly excited to start developing/tending to our land and exploring Asheville together.

Look I know normally I post about like fandoms and stuff but I saw these cute ass ducks (and chicks) at TSC (tractor supply Co for those who don't know) and I had to grab 2 each. We already have 4 others (2 Indian Runners and 2 Golden 300s) and 6 chickens (3 Barred Rock, 3 Cuckoos). The new ducks are supposed to be 2 Magpie Ducks and 2 Black Swedish! The grey chicks are Blue Plymouth Rock and the red ones are Rhode Island Reds! I'm super excited to have gotten them and I just love my little farm so much!

Look, I'm such a country bumpkin, y'all don't even understand. I sound like cornbread.

Fandom's emphasis on Diomedes' "violence" always makes me a bit sad, as despite his incredible skills as a warrior, I wouldn't even call him the most "violent" or "aggressive" out of all the Achaeans/Trojans.

Most of Diomedes' violence is because he's been ordered to or simply what is called for in the moment. Athena giving him a boost and sending him after other immortals (Athena bullying her family lol), him killing all the sleeping Trojans while Odysseus steals the horses, etc. Does he have his moments? Of course! Zeus warning him to stop climbing the wall and such?

But even then, honestly think Diomedes is more fascinating as a young man who has basically been molded since birth by Athena to be the "perfect warrior" and has basically been doing that all his life, but would genuinely rather be doing other things. He's like one of those kids who have been basically doing a certain sport since they were two and once they get their scholarship money with it, they're done with it and having fun exploring shit outside of that sport. His sport being "war". He is so much more than "war" and "violence".

Just because he's comfortable with violence and war doesn't mean that it's all he can do or should do. :/

I've been thinking a lot about my dad lately. In some ways we're really different, he can struggle to relate to me, especially after transitioning. But as I grow into my adult life I'm understanding him more and more.

For context, my dad is a very southern outdoorsy guy. He spent his childhood in Charleston, SC before his family moved to a farm in rural Virginia. He really got along in that environment and stayed extremely involved in hunting and outdoor stuff as an adult, where he works as a civil engineer.

And I guess aesthetically we're very different but I'm also an engineer (though in software). I just bought a mini farm. We're looking into hunting for more sustainable meat. I'm into taxidermy and sustainable wetlands and native plants. So many of these things are at the core the same.

He doesn't really express his excitement for this convergence in conventional or spoken ways but he put us together a vintage all in one tractor. That's most definitely his way of saying he's glad too.
