GANGNEUNG-SI, GANGWON-DO. The drive to the east coast is always nostalgic, like fragments of previous summers are powdered into the air and with every inhale of the breeze outside the car window fills you with the past— scraped knees from the rocky beachside, saltwater daydreams under bunny-shaped clouds, and the smell of paint and the sea melting together in early morning dews. It takes a little over an hour for the cab to roll up to your summer neighborhood. It takes twenty minutes of walking to get to your family’s vacation house situated right beside the sea.
“Welcome home.”
Your words echo in the empty living room and your own voice greets you with remembrance. A smile crawls onto your lips. Eggshell walls, sandy brown wooden panels, your favorite blue sofa matching the stripes on the rug underneath it, and the sheer cream curtains painted with the orange spills of the sunset through wall to ceiling windows— it’s a still life painting of last year’s summer. Prior to that, you still had plants around, but they kept dying, getting replaced and dying again until your neglectful guilt finally hit you. Throughout highschool, your family diligently spent time here every December and July. Now, it’s just you every summer and the caretaker that comes by every few months.
“I should call mom after dinner,” you hum, washing the dishes you found in the cupboards. Your first night here always ends early. By sunfall, you have a quick meal, wash up, tuck yourself into bed upstairs and allow yourself to be lulled to sleep by the sloshing waves of the nighttime sea.
Four in the morning is when you start to feel alive.
The first thing you do upon waking up, pitch black sky with the sun still hiding behind the oceanline, you grab one of the bags you left on your living room sofa, slinging it over your shoulder before picking up a folded up easel leaned against the wall and two of the blank canvas panels stacked beside it. Your body moves mechanically, practiced and familiar movements— sliding the glass door open to the backyard and closing, feeling the sand wither underneath your bare soles until soft grains blend into jagged stone as you climb up the natural staircase of rocks, leading up to a solid flat plateau.
Is it safe to be painting on top of a cliff when you’ve just woken up? No. Have you been doing this every day since you were fourteen every summer you spend at your vacation home? Yes.
When the sun starts to rise, you become invigorated with life that it almost feels like rebirth.
You haven’t fallen to your death yet, and you don’t have any plans to slip and succumb to its cold hands any time soon. Not until you manage to perfectly capture the image before your eyes at this very moment; neither your memories nor your imperfect renditions can compare to the vibrancy of the orange stained waves, the clarity white seafoam kissing its surface, and the beauty of flaming disk peeking from the firmament where the sky meets the sea in all its ephemeral glory.
It’s five-thirty when the sun fully emerges from the water. Your legs give in, and you fall onto the rocky ground with a sigh. All you could finish is the underpaint today. You’ll continue working tomorrow.
Whenever someone asks you— why the fuck are you doing this? you never have a satisfying answer. It’s an exercise, it’s a routine; it’s the only time when I feel like I’m painting something worthwhile. You have countless pieces in galleries and exhibits, meaningless works with the highest praises from your professors, but they’re nothing worth the buzz of your fingertips whenever you chase the sunrise with your own paint-stained hands until it inevitably, ritualistically flies beyond your devoted reach.
The strain in your leg muscles takes forever to recover. You should remember to bring a stool tomorrow because although you don’t feel anything besides adrenaline whenever you attack the canvas with your brush, the aftertaste can be a little brutal.
“Can’t you stay a little longer tomorrow?” you mumble to the orange tinted sky as you lay on the uneven ground, arms and legs spread out in vulnerability. When it doesn’t respond, you groan and pull yourself up. You could leave your painting materials here, but the probability of them getting thrown into the ocean by the wind is too high for your peace of mind.
As you collect your paint brushes and gather your extra paint tubes, your eyes keep getting pulled by the ocean’s songs. The scene before you has been imprinted in your retinas since you were seven. So when something appears amiss or changes, you can pick it apart immediately. A shift in the tides. A crack in the rock formation. Even a floating piece of driftwood from afar can’t slip away from your attention.
So when you find something— rather, someone emerging from the warm blue near the sprouting rocks, you drop your things and pace quickly to the edge to get a better look.
This is odd. This entire plot of land is private property, and it’s the only way to get into the water besides the island across it, which is still at least twenty miles away. Your eyebrows furrow, wondering how they got here, but when you get to the edge of the cliff, the rough terrain biting into your feet, your concerns are suddenly thrown into the water underneath you.
You can see the intruder’s face clearly now. Whoever he is, he’s breathtaking.
He’s gotten closer to the shore, resting his arms on the inky rock, half submerged into blue depths. The saltwater beads glisten like jewels on his porcelain skin, splashing sunlight into the water when he throws his head back before letting the ocean consume him once more. There’s a flicker of gold that splashes above the surface in a steady rhythmic wave, slowly moving further away.
You have found your new ocean sunrise. You don’t intend on letting him get away.
Splash!
Suddenly, all the warmth from your skin is stripped away as your body sinks into the sea, engulfed by the thick raptures of its waves. Though having been enamored by it for the better part of your life, you have never stepped into the ocean’s embrace— never dared to corrupt its ethereal beauty with your feeble humanity— that is, until now. You slowly feel heavier, and each second hurts more than the last, like the sun itself has entered your lungs and is burning you from the inside. Maybe you should have learned how to swim. Maybe you shouldn’t have jumped off the cliff in the rushing hopes of catching a fleeting stranger’s attention.
No one should underestimate the lengths an artist would go for their art. Just when your consciousness starts to slip, you see a spark in the dark water, slowly approaching before your eyelids flutter to a close. You can hear nothing. You feel nothing but the cold, until all of the sudden you’re gasping, coughing out water from your lungs and the jagged rock you’re laying on sinks its teeth into your wet palms.
There’s one person who could have saved you. You can’t believe your deranged plan worked.
You open your eyes and look above, your still beating heart burning into a frenzy and instead of the sunrise sky, your gaze meets a pair of stygian gemstones muddled with concern. A few droplets of water from his damp hair fall onto your cheeks.
“Are you okay?”
Burnt stars form a constellation on his face. His lips are full and painted by coral hues.
“I want to burn you in my memory.”
He’s even more breathtaking up close, it’s almost impossible to believe. Your gaze draws down, noticing how you’re caged between his arms, noticing the patchy waist bag loosely hanging on his bare hips over a makeshift skirt of fabric, noticing the iridescent gold flakes blending into his skin, shimmering under the sunlight from where his lower half should be.
You flit your eyes back up. His are now widened in panic.
Splash!

i calculated stardew valley characters’s real-time birthdays because i love celebrating fictional birthdays
here’s my big brain process. i looked up the average amount of days in a season and set it equal to the fraction of their birthday. ex. there’s 28 days a month, so spring 4 would be 4/28. spring has an average of 92.8 days assuming stardew valley is in the northern hemisphere. 4/28 = x/92.8 and solve for x. x is the amount of days AFTER the first day of the season. so i looked up the first day of each season (average) and added x, (ex. what day is 23 days after march 20) and these are the dates i got. marnie’s birthday is a day after mine :)

v.
“This is the last call for Japan Airlines flight 717 to Buenos Aires, now boarding at gate number twelve. This is the last call…”
Goodbyes are hard when you know they’re forever. Or at least a while.
The clamour of Haneda airport dims to a faint buzz as the two of you continue standing with touching shoulders–– facing the jetliner instead of each other–– in futile hopes of delaying the inevitable.
Oikawa knows that you’re holding in your tears by the light tremors running through your body. Permitting himself to steal a look at your side profile, he notices the familiar tensing of your jaw and hard-set look in your red-rimmed eyes.
Tch. You said you wouldn’t cry.
Impulsively, he unzips his backpack and pulls out a familiar turquoise banner. It feels like just yesterday the team handed him the silk fabric with everyone’s farewell gifts wrapped inside.
Out-of-sequence memories of the Spring High qualifiers flash through your mind. The orange-haired Karasuno player’s spike ricochets off Oikawa’s forearms. The numbers on both sides of the scoreboard slowly inch up like they’re taking turns. Oikawa’s white knuckles against the metal basin. Red eyes. Heaving chest. Something soft against your skin. Rule the Court.
And just like the last time, he gently drapes it over your shoulders, brushing his fingers against your neck as he does so. God, how he wants to kiss you.
“But it’s yours,” you protest weakly, making no move to give it back.
“It won’t be for a while.” His voice cracks when he speaks. But it will be mine again when I come back for it.
He wants to kiss you. One last time.
He wants your mouth against his like absolution to a sinner because he knows that what he’s done to you, what he’s doing to you right now, is comparable to desecration. But he remembers the look on your face that night he broke the news to you. How your megawatt grin caved into a wince when the length of his contract with Club Athletico San Juan finally registered in your mind.
You swallow your feelings of betrayal. You knew what you were getting yourself into.
“Five years is an awfully long time to be apart,” you say after a while.
Oikawa bites his lip. He doesn’t have the heart to say that five was just the starting number. If he does well there, he’ll probably stay longer. He’ll probably do well there. “You don’t have to wait for me.”
Seconds drag into minutes. The cavity in his stomach festers as he waits for your response, but he has a feeling that he already knows your answer.
So instead, all he can do when your floodgates finally burst open is cup your face in his calloused palms and wipe away some of your tears before offering you his own watery smile.
Through your blurred vision, you watch as the boy in front of you steels his resolve and disappears from your life through the jet bridge, ignoring his heart as it begs for one last look over his shoulder.
Oikawa nods numbly when the old man sitting beside him asks if he’s leaving home for the first time. Home, he realises, isn’t anywhere with walls, isn’t an address, isn’t even a person. When someone says they want to go home, it’s not a space that they yearn for, but rather, a time.
He watches Japan grow smaller through the window and feels himself yearn for the time he still had your heart in his hands. It felt like he was holding the sun.
i.
You wouldn’t consider July 21st to be a special day. Nothing special happened earlier that morning when you woke up without your usual alarm. Nothing special happened when your friends texted you four simple words–– come to Azukihana beach!–– during breakfast. But (and this will come to you much, much later) something special happened when said friends left you to guard their things as they dashed to the supermarket for more snacks.
For now, it’s just July 21st, and you’re lying with your back against a towel on the first day of summer break, soaking in the sun, peacefully flipping through a book.
“DON’T FUCKING DO IT, YOU COLOSSAL PIECE OF SHIT!” The familiar voice tears through the beach. Was that Iwaizumi? You set the book down and sit up to check.
And suddenly, the yellow and blue volleyball that had been leisurely rolling your way halts perfectly before your toes. Behind it jogs a shirtless brunet you’ve definitely seen around school.
Oikawa Tooru stops right behind the runaway volleyball and peers at you through half-lidded eyes. “Sorry about that,” he says, flashing you a charming smile.
After casually picking up the ball with one hand, he flexes his abdominal muscles as he straightens back up. Chestnut irises attempt to discreetly sweep over your features but you catch his gaze in the act, quirking an unamused brow. You also catch the intrigued twitch of his lips that follow.
You’re not stupid. Despite having never met him, you know a lot about the Grand King (as many call him). He’s the constant subject of Iwaizumi’s ire and you’ve heard a lifetime’s complaints about him at joint-family luncheons.
But here’s what’s important: you know that he tears himself apart to be the player his team needs him to be, that he sometimes makes Iwaizumi wish he’d passed the Shiratorizawa entrance exam, and that he fiddles with hearts like origami and sets fire to those beautiful fragile trinkets right after.
And in the interest of self-defence (but against what the devil on your shoulder begs), you choose to not place your most prized possession on the table.
A simple “no worries” passes through your lips. You return to your book. A page turns.
Oikawa Tooru is dismissed.
Though your gaze is trained on the page, you can feel his presence at your feet for a few seconds longer. You wonder what his next move is. Much to your surprise, instead of trying to strike up another conversation, he simply lets out an airy hum and strolls back to the sand court where he came from without a second glance.
Iwaizumi wonders why Oikawa is smiling so victoriously after watching the whole ordeal, but your tan family friend has, unlike the calculating Grand King, failed to notice one important detail:
your book is upside down.
And, as if in a trance, your eyes have followed Oikawa all the way back to his sandy kingdom.
Once the sun has set, Iwaizumi checks his phone and notices a text he’d missed in the afternoon. It’s from Y/N. Unease digs itself in his chest when he realises it can’t possibly be for anything except…
hey what was that about?
This can’t be good. Thumbs rapidly typing a response, he races to quash any interest you may have budding in Oikawa. You… you’re good. Nice. Smart enough for UTokyo. A bit naive, but he’s been around your overbearing parents long enough to see it’s not entirely your fault. And even though you run in different circles at school, he feels obligated to protect you from monsters that hide beneath pretty surfaces. He’s known you since the two of you were in diapers.
just trash being what it is
Iwaizumi watches the three grey dots on your side appear, disappear, reappear, and disappear again. And that’s when he realises that he cannot help you. The villain in this arc of your story has already sunken his teeth in your tender, unsullied flesh.
trash?
He sighs.
oikawa
It isn’t a surprise to Iwaizumi when summer break ends and Oikawa’s chestnut eyes start hunting for someone in the cafeteria during lunch. He doesn’t raise a brow when he hears that the second-year captain has been sneaking into Class 7, sometimes with flowers in his hands, and strolling out with a dazed look on his face. He slaps his teammates out of shock when Oikawa mentions his troubles with pursuing some girl–– but not before slapping himself first. Because the Oikawa he knows is not a chaser.
“Her name’s Y/N,” the brunet says, suddenly realising that he has never introduced any of his temporary interests to the team. But it’s been well over two months and he’s starting to think he’s been friend-zoned. Or worse. “I think she hates me.” He laughs melodically, then cocks his head in contemplation. “Is it weird that I kinda like that?”
Iwaizumi hides a satisfied smile behind a sip of water. Oikawa’s revelation has cleared the unease your name brought to his chest. Just a little. Perhaps he’d misread you. You have a bite of your own.
iii.
It’s routine for Oikawa to slink into Class 7 with a dazzling grin during morning break, but he’ll sometimes show up with flowers instead just to remind you that his affections, along with his modus operandi–– haven’t changed since he first started visiting you in September.
The girls in your homeroom have grown used to seeing the six-foot-tall volleyball captain hovering around your desk like a butterfly. Most treat him as part of the scenery nowadays. To them, Oikawa Tooru is no longer the mysterious, out-of-reach deity the rest of the school still paints him to be.
So when he strolls into class on a chilly January afternoon with your name a tune on his lips, they leave him be. Recently, the ladies of Seijoh have focused their attentions on some fellow on the swim team, anyway. Oikawa doesn’t feel as upset as he thinks he should about his shrinking fan club, but when his gaze finds yours already steady, expectant, utterly adoring on him, he understands why.
“For the lady,” he says like he does every time. A cluster of yellow flowers wrapped in brown kraft paper plop onto your desk. He pulls a chair up to your side, purposely ignoring, again, how two certain grooves in the wooden floor keep growing deeper with his visits.
You remember the first time he started bringing you flowers.
A posy of pink flowers sits awkwardly on your desk, untouched.
“I tell you I’d rather take your serve to my face than attend the bunkasai with you and your response is to give me weeds?” you reply with your chin in the palm of your hands, amusement blossoming over your features.
“Stop being a tease, Y/N-chan, they’re flowers,” he huffs, crossing his arms on your desk. “And I know you want to take them. The florist even said I have immaculate taste.”
“Really? Then what do these mean?”
Oikawa falters.
“Hmm?”
“Pink camellias,” he finally says, carefully enunciating the flower's name, “means that you’re a fucking tease. And that you should come to the bunkasai with me.” You snort and tell him to quit volleyball and join comedy club, feeling a strange warmth in your chest when he laughs.
The two of you fall into the same rhythm as always, talking a little bit about this and that, throwing in witty remarks where they belong, never passing up the chance to make fun of each other’s little idiosyncrasies. He’s enraptured by the way you string words together to describe the story behind your class’s bunkasai performance and all the gears in your brain whirr when he explains the strategy he’s using against the team Seijoh’s playing later that day.
When the bell rings, he reluctantly drags his chair back to the desk he stole it from. Just before he slinks back out the door, though, you tell him with a stern gaze that the Ushiwaka from Shiratorizawa he just spent the break shit-talking doesn’t hold a candle to Seijoh’s Grand King.
It’s like you had just stepped under a new light. Oikawa pauses in front of the doorway, trying to decipher what it is that’s different about you. And suddenly, the roses in his cheeks are in full bloom. Delighted and puzzled at his own realisation, he turns around without a second glance your way and strides back to Class 5. Oh, man, he muses as he passes through the emptying corridor. Oh, man. Iwa-chan is going to love this.
Your phone buzzes later that evening.
seijoh v. shiratorizawa 1-2, the text reads, quickly followed by, GAH.
Your lips twitch, though it doesn’t reach your eyes. Tapping your fingers against your phone screen for a response that’ll cheer him up, you suddenly remember a phrase Oikawa said earlier that day. It drew a laugh from you when it came out his contorted face. He was obviously still hung up over with the words of the opposing team’s ace. Hopefully, it makes him feel something else coming from you.
you should’ve come to shiratorizawa, you send, grinning.
His response is immediate.
l m f A O
what flowers would you like at your funeral?
And then you’re reminded of his petalled gift on your desk, now comfortably sitting in a glass vase at your bedside. Pink camellias, he said? Curious, you open your laptop and type in the name for its meaning.
Longing, you remember, watching your boyfriend chatter about something–– probably aliens–– animatedly. The yellow flowers on your desk, you realise, are ones you’ve never seen before.
“Oikawa, what’s the name of these?” you suddenly ask. He stops in the middle of his sentence (he was definitely talking about aliens, by the way), and grins smugly.
“Jonquils,” he says with a mischievous glint in his eyes, “spelt J-O-N-Q-U-I-L-S, means that your boyfriend’s going to colonise Mars one day. And if you’re lucky, you can be the first queen of Mars. How ‘bout that?”
It doesn’t mean what he says it does, by the way.
ii.
Splashes of pink and orange have already settled into the blue sky above when you step onto the rooftop of Seijoh’s humanities building. Despite the breeze that has swept through the air, the flame of curiosity in your stomach burns just enough for you to turn a cheek to the cold.
Come to the rooftop at 6 PM.
It’s 5:59. Impatient, you study the note in your hand again. Maybe you’ll be able to glean something from the laconic letter this time.
Much to your irritation, no one had seen the author of this note. They had expertly placed the unsigned card on your desk with a single rose and Hershey’s chocolate kiss on top during lunch. Elegantly scrawled, their seven words have had your brain running circles all day around their identity. Could it be…? No–– he seemed completely normal earlier today. Still, you can’t shake your suspicions. They borderline hope.
Who else…
You inhale the cool air deeply and lean back against the rooftop railing, eyes burning a hole into the metal entrance. The door swings open with a high-pitched groan. Your breath catches in your throat.
… if not him?
Time briefly stops when Oikawa Tooru steps through the entrance, still in his volleyball uniform, sweaty from practice, cheeks the same colour as the setting sun. There’s an unusually tentative look on his face, though it’s immediately wiped off and replaced with the realisation that this is real when he sees you slightly slack-jawed, blinking once, twice, three times before letting out a breath.
“You look surprised. Expecting someone else to confess today?” he asks, crossing his arms in front of his uniformed chest. Despite how his features are contorted by his poorly hidden jealousy, you can’t help but feel a flood of blood rush through your veins, lighting every inch of your skin on fire.
Because whether he knows it or not, Oikawa, the Grand King of the Court, prettiest boy in all of Miyagi, has skipped the table and placed his heart straight into your hands.
“Of course not,” you retort. “I just didn’t think you’d… well, do something like this.” And I didn’t want to get my hopes up. Iwaizumi’s words still find their way into your mind sometimes. I didn’t want origami made from my heartstrings.
Oikawa’s demeanour changes and his eyes dart away from your face. Shoving his hands into his windbreaker’s pockets, he admits, “I’ve honestly never done something like this before.” A faint blush spreads across his cheeks.
“Really? You’ve never stepped foot in the fourteenth shrine of Sendai?” you tease, referring to how Seijoh students have claimed this very rooftop as one of the God of Love’s many temples. You both know he holds the school record for the number of visits to this rooftop. At this rate, he could be one of its caretakers.
“That’s not what I meant,” he replies with a scowl, though the awkward tension between you two dissipates. And it feels like the two of you are back at your desk in Class 7, snickering uncontrollably while throwing playful jabs at each other. Sensing the change in atmosphere, Oikawa finally steps forward to join you by the railing.
Humming softly, he rests his elbows on the metal bar, props his head up with his hands, and sets his gaze on the lowering sun.
It’d be unfair to say that you didn’t at least try to enjoy the moment of peace with the boy beside you. But there’s a burning question on your mind that you can’t put off asking any longer.
“Why me?” you finally blurt out. “You could have any girl in this school. What made you choose me?”
The brunet whips his head around, disbelief written all over his face. “You think I chose to chase after the most annoying girl in all of Miyagi?” He laughs. “Ridiculous. I’d never willingly put myself through that unnecessary angst.”
You scoff and cross your arms.
“I think that when you like someone, it’s harder to explain why,” he quickly adds. “‘Cause it’s not supposed to make sense. I bet that the inability to explain your feelings is a prerequisite for true feelings, actually. It’s logical to say that you’d date Person A because they’re smart, or Person B because they’re hot, or Person C because they’re rich. But I’m pretty sure that that’s not… that’s not falling for someone. When you fall for someone… you just do. No logic required. You weren’t an option I ultimately settled on, Y/N. One day I just woke up and thought, if not you, then no one else.”
A beat passes. A flurry of words floods through your brain, only to evaporate when the devil on your shoulder decides that words aren’t quite adequate for what you want Oikawa to hear.
So instead, your feet take you one step closer into his space. Impulsively, your fingers find their way to his nape and your eyes flutter shut and suddenly–– suddenly, your parted lips brush against Oikawa’s. Instantly, he deepens the kiss, soft lips surging against yours like a pulse under pressure. You barely register his arms snaking around your waist, tighter and tighter until the space between your bodies is completely closed off.
Breathless, you finally detach your lips from his. Oikawa, who still has you encircled in his arms, pouts at the loss of contact, though he sulky façade only lasts a second before it gives way to a grin that stretches from ear to ear. He looks magnificent. Cheeks red, lips flushed, chest heaving, eyes wide with excitement. You want to kiss him again.
“One more.” It’s as if he read your mind. “To celebrate that last one.”
When Oikawa finally detaches himself from your lips, it’s to respond to the buzzing in his pocket. Noticing your raised brows, he explains that it’s an alarm for practice. The Spring High Prelims are just around the corner and he doesn’t plan on graduating without never having taken his team to Nationals.
“That’s my cue,” he states with a warm–– read: not apologetic–– smile. He doesn’t grab your hand or look imploringly into your eyes in hopes that you understand, never mind that you just shared your first kiss, never mind that you just became his girlfriend.
If Oikawa’s looking for any sign of your objection, he won’t find any. Instead, you step out of his space with an acquiescent nod. You knew what you were getting yourself into.
“Play well,” you say softly.
But before he heads for the creaky rooftop door, he presses one last kiss to your lips. And then he turns around, whistling as he goes, leaving you beaming behind his back with the light of a thousand suns.
iv.
When Matsukawa hands you the turquoise “Rule the Court” banner after the team lunch with a shit-eating grin on his face, the only resistance you offer is a resigned sigh.
“I’ve been dating Oikawa since we were second years,” you say flatly.
“Sorry, Y/N-san, but it’s the team’s hazing ritual,” he replies, not appearing sorry at all. “And you’re the only one who hasn’t done it.” He jerks his head at the blonde girl standing a little farther from the group with Hanamaki. “Emiko-san did it at the last game.”
“Plus, it’s the Spring High qualifier semifinals!” Kindaichi adds. “It’s an even bigger deal for you to do it now, especially since you had to miss our games on the first two days for school.” The team murmurs in agreement.
You shudder at the thought of your impending distress. Sit in the front row of the cheer squad and raise the banner with a scream every time your boyfriend serves? Fleeing from the Sendai City Gymnasium back home in an expensive taxi suddenly becomes very appealing.
Seeing the expectant and hopeful looks on the rest of the team’s faces, however, you begrudgingly place the banner in your backpack, signalling your acceptance of the horrible, cringe-worthy tradition.
“Where is Oikawa-san?” Kindaichi asks, rotating his turnip-shaped head around rapidly. “He was just at the team lunch. Iwaizumi-san’s missing too…”
Kunimi shrugs, pulling out his copy of the team schedule. He starts herding the team towards one of the courts. “Our game against Karasuno starts about an hour, so we should start warm-ups in around fifteen minutes.”
Worry creeps up your spine. For the past few days, all Oikawa has talked about is this match against his bratty kouhai’s team. And in the past two weeks leading up to today, you haven’t been able to even catch a glimpse of his face outside of break or lunch. To suddenly go missing before warm-ups doesn’t seem like Oikawa. You’re about to ask the team if he’s ever done this before, but your phone starts ringing a familiar tune and the question is set aside.
“Iwai––”
“Third-floor bathroom by the orange pillar. Come alone. Don’t tell anyone. Emergency.” Through his harsh and abrupt tone, you pick up traces of fear.
“What––”
“It’s Oikawa.” The call is cut before you can ask any more questions. Heart suddenly racing, you tell the team that your mother just called with questions about your new smart blender and excuse yourself to “explain what the manufacturers mean by salsify”. No one sees you bolt towards the nearest set of staircases with Oikawa the only thought on your mind.
There are very few things in this world that scare you. Stray hairs in the bathroom, the dark, essays longer than three pages… but the terror that short-circuits your brain when you find your boyfriend in the bathroom–– knuckles white around the sink, chest heaving violently, frenzied pupils surrounded by broken blood vessels–– trumps any fear you’ve faced before.
Iwaizumi stands helplessly beside him.
“Is he having a panic attack?” you question, still unable to move your feet. You’ve never seen Oikawa like this before. He’s the Grand King who hums while he walks, who spams your phone’s camera roll with peace-signs and funny faces, who winks and flirts and teases without regard. But watching the long-deified setter crumble like a measly human before you, you realise that Oikawa is also the guy who tore his meniscus from overexertion, who trades sleep to study his opponents play, who works his body to the bone just to stay a hairline above a certain Karasuno setter.
“A scout for the Schweiden Adlers said that Kageyama will soon surpass Oikawa in skill.” Iwaizumi explains how they had overheard the conversation lowly in your ear. “I got us into this bathroom just before he completely lost it. 5-4-3-2-1 isn’t working. And he won’t listen to a word I say.” What’s 5-4-3-2-1? Well, if it isn’t working then don’t focus on that right now.
Your eyes dart to Oikawa’s quivering body again. “I don’t know how to pull someone out of a panic attack.”
“The goal is to ground him. So use physical touch, make him feel something with texture, and get him to talk,” he responds instantly. Mechanically. Like he’s all-too-familiar with this set of instructions. A heaviness grows in the pit of your stomach when you realise what that means for Oikawa. And yet, from that very dread sprouts strength.
Slowly, you tread over to Oikawa and place a hand on his arm. His muscles tense under your touch but when you murmur over and over that it’s “Y/N, your girlfriend, the most annoying girl in Miyagi”, his fingers loosen ever-so-slightly from the metal basin. He lets you lead him to the bench by the door. He lets you drape the Seijoh banner over his shoulders like it’s armour and wrap your arms around his waist. He lets you press your cheek to his sweat-drenched back.
Get him to talk.
“Remember that quote you showed me from that interview of yours? What was it again?” you question softly.
No response.
“If you’re going to hit it, hit it until it breaks,” you say into his ear.
Through the mirror, you see his eyes widen with recognition. In the brief moment of lucidity that washes over Oikawa’s glistening face, you repeat the original question again, followed by his own quote.
Again and again.
And Oikawa finally says back.
“If you’re going to hit it, hit it until it breaks.” Focus re-enters his gaze. He blinks as if just waking from a spell.
“That’s right,” you say as firmly as possible. “So don’t you dare break first, Tooru.”
An unreadable blend of emotions scrawls itself over his features. While Oikawa washes his face with cold water, you remember rumination and resolve but can’t decipher the rest, giving up anyway when Iwaizumi pushes open the bathroom door. When the light washes over Oikawa, his face shows no signs of the episode he just had. It’s just like how the sky moves on after a storm, how the sun beams to say, “I’m here now. The rain has gone.”
But sometimes it still rains in spite of the sun.
A sunshower. It sounds so beautiful. But it’s wonderfully sad.
The three of you wordlessly make your way to the court where the rest of Seijoh is likely getting ready to warm up. What are you supposed to say after that? What can you say?
Once the smell of air salonpas and sweat finally greets your nose, Oikawa slips the Seijoh banner off his back and hands it over to you. Guessing that’s your cue to leave, you tell him to play well like you always do before starting to head for the upper deck. Softly, Oikawa asks you to wait.
“Stay for warm-ups,” he adds. “Please.”
From your spot behind the Seijoh divider, you carefully watch for any signs of another breakdown. To your relief, he goes the entire half-hour without a single crack in his disposition, exchanging laidback grins with the team, bantering with Iwaizumi. At one point he even has the audacity to taunt the Karasuno setter Tobio-chan, as Oikawa often says with a sneer.
Sunshowers, Y/N. Sunshowers.
Just before the referees call for the teams to line up at their ends of the court, Oikawa jogs over to you, eyes folding into thin crescents when he smiles.
He pulls the Seijoh banner out from your hands and gingerly cloaks it around your shoulders. Oikawa presses a quick kiss to your lips and murmurs, “Thank you.” Something in face tells you that it’s supposed to mean more than gratitude. Before you can read more into it, he turns back around and jogs to the line where his team awaits. Oikawa grins ferally.
Knowing that your luminous eyes are fixed to his back like his own set of wings, the monster crows on the other side suddenly look more like humans.
vi.
Oikawa isn’t surprised that his text is still unopened. At twenty-seven years old, he’s had his fair share of dead-ends when it comes to love. But he hadn’t expected radio silence from you of all people.
After closing all the tabs of Team Japan’s latest matches, he powers off his laptop and checks his phone again to reread what he wrote to your old number one last time. Still nothing. It’s highly probable you’ve changed phone numbers at least once in the last nine years, but the disappointment’s still there after he powers his phone off for the night. Tomorrow’s a big day and he’s not the same victim of self-destruction he had been in high school.
Or so he thinks, realising that texting the last person he loved the night before the 2021 Olympics volleyball finals might have been slightly irresponsible on his part. A thought arises in his head, though he quickly quashes it. Asking Iwaizumi to pass the message along would be a little overboard, wouldn’t it? Oikawa chuckles, imagining he response he’d get from his best friend (and Team Japan’s team trainer, that traitor).
“Go the fuck to sleep or I’ll put you to sleep, you dumbass simp,” he hears in Iwaizumi’s gruff voice.
He convinces himself that you’ll be there like you’ve always been. After all, he’s spent a lifetime with your pair of watchful eyes on his back. Satisfied, he drifts into a dreamless sleep.
The volume in the Ariake Arena is astronomical. Blood pounds against his ears as he sets the ball in the air, a monstrous grin carving into his face when his teammate José spikes the set straight down the net, drawing a wave of oohs and aahs from spectators on both sides.
Iwaizumi rolls his eyes at the flashy Team Argentina setter and finishes taping up Ushijima’s arm.
Oikawa turns haughtily towards the opposite team, gaze zeroing in on Team Japan’s raven-haired setter and the shrimpy ginger beside him. It’s been a while since he last saw them this close in person–– the chance encounter with Hinata in Brazil happened well over three years ago and he hadn’t had the time earlier in the tournament to say hello. Of course they’re the final boss in this arc, he muses, though the thought is void of vexation. Instead, begrudging pride blossoms in his chest. Truthfully, he had expected nothing less from his kouhai.
And he expects nothing less than finally tasting the ambrosia of victory against that monster–– no, an entire generation of monsters–– today. Monsters who happen to be the kids he grew up beside.
He wonders what you’d say at the sight of Japan’s greatest players all gathered on one court. On instinct, his eyes dive into the bleachers, searching for your face. Knowing he’s not likely to find you like this, he tsks, deciding to look for Iwaizumi instead. Maybe he knows where you are.
The referees signal for both teams to line up at their ends of the court. As he steps onto the white boundary line, he notices Iwaizumi’s gaze transfixed on someone in the upper deck on Team Argentina’s side. The neutral expression on his face morphs into shock, then recognition. And then he glances at Oikawa.
The latter’s brows furrow before everything clicks in place.
Who else…
All your memories together hit him at full force–– your face shimmering with tears in front of gate twelve in Haneda Airport, the feeling of your shallow breaths against his neck, the savvy lilt to your voice as you speak.
… if not her?
For the first time in his life, Oikawa Tooru looks behind his shoulder.
And there you are, leaning against the railing with the old Seijoh flag draped over your shoulders, a tender, splendid smile on your lips.
“Play well,” you mouth.
And Oikawa feels the sun rise back into his hands.

July 1st, 1969- Scarlett POV
Kelly put me on a top-secret project for my first thing as COO. The lads are still on a break from Abbey Road. George officially moved in and is legally a single man. John went to Scotland with Yoko, Julian, and Yoko's five-year-old daughter Kyoko, for a holiday, and they left on the 29. When I returned from Liverpool, I got the somewhat exciting news that Elaina and Tim had started their relationship back up for the 5th time since 1965. Smile has been getting big, and Roger has taken me on dates. On June 26th, we drove back to Liverpool for an annual service for my dad, and this year, Sandy's water broke during the service. Later that day, Sandy gave birth to Steven John Walker. My friend group also has two new guys, Milo and Thomas, both are old friends of Elaina's. Tim wasn't excited at first because they were flirtatious with each other. Elaina explained to him that Milo and Thomas are like how Star and I are to him, which quickly eased him. I'm still working in Kelly's office while mine is getting furnished and fixed since Anne wrecked it. I was working on the project when I got a nervously rapid knock on the door.
"Come in," Kelly and I yelled. Star and Cynthia ran in, and Star turned on the radio.
"What are you doing?" I asked as Star changed the channel.
"Breaking News: John Lennon crashed his car in Scotland with his wife, Yoko Ono, child, Julian Lennon, and stepchild, Kyoko Cox," The news reporter stated, "This crash has been just announced and no further updates yet."
My heart dropped. God, I hope they're all okay.
"We have to go," I looked at Cynthia and Star.
"The next flight is in 3 more hours," Cynthia stated.
"Use my plane, I don't use it, and you can get there faster than a normal plane," Kelly suggested.
"Are you sure?" Star asked.
"Yes, stop standing here and go," Kelly pushed us out. We all got into Star's car, and I gave Star the directions to the plane site. As soon as we got on the plane we all tried to stay calm, the flight was an hour and forty minutes. We kept the radio on to listen in on what was happening. Cynthia was freaking out about Julian's safety. Star and I freaked out for John and Julian. Soon as we landed, we rushed to Golspie's Lawson Memorial Hospital.
"Hello, I'm looking for John Lennon and his family?" I asked the secretary.
"Sorry, onl-" the secretary turned to see Star and me. "Oh my god, you're the Beatle Twins! He is in room 104."
"Thank you," I smiled, and we started to walk to the room, but Cynthia stopped.
"He doesn't want to see you, hun. He told us when he came in," the secretary pointed to Cynthia.
"You guys go. I'll try to find Julian," Cynthia told us. Star and I ran to John's room. Soon as we walked in, John had stitches on his face, and he was shocked to see us. Star and I ran to John and hugged him.
"Oh, thank god you're okay," We sighed in relief. Then we pulled out from the hug, and I punched John in the arm, "You scared us, you asshole. You made me think we lost you!"
"Please, a small car crash won't take me down, Walker," John rubbed the spot I punched him. We saw no Julian, no Yoko, and no Kyoko.
"John. Where is Julian, Yoko, and Kyoko?" I looked at John.
"Where's George and Roger?" John asked with a bit of sass, "You would think your boyfriends would go to Scotland with you."
Star and I looked at each other. I forgot to tell Roger we were heading to Scotland, and by the look on Star's face, she failed to tell George.
"Did you guys forget to tell your boyfriends that you were going to Scotland?" John started to laugh.
"Not now, Lennon. Where are the other three people you came with?" I asked John.
"Julian is with my aunt Mater in Durness. Kyoko and Yoko are in different rooms," John told me, "I love you guys, but why are you in Scotland?"
"We heard about the crash," Star started.
"And we came here as fast as possible," I explained.
"Aw, all just for me," John fluttered his eyes, "You guys shouldn't have."
"We thought we would lose our older brother-" I explained.
"There is no way we would just stay in London and sit around," Star cut me off.
"Come here," John put his arms out for another hug, we hugged him back, and the doctor came in.
"Sorry, no one but family is allowed here," the doctor said, thinking we're fans.
"We are family," I assured the doctor.
"What is the relation?" the doctor asked.
"Sisters," John responded, "Doc, these are my little sisters, Scarlett and Star."
"Okay, Mr. Lennon, I want you to stay here for a few days." The doctor started, then looked at Star and me, "Will you be picking up the Lennons when they get discharged?"
"Yes," Star and I responded.
"Okay, We will stay in touch. Before you leave, give us your numbers, so we know how to contact you two," The doctor said, then walked out. Star and I remember that we left Cynthia in the lobby. We told John we would call him when we returned to London and left. We went to John's aunt to get Julian. We knocked on the door, and Mater answered the door. Julian ran over to us.
"Mama! Auntie Scar! Auntie Star!" He ran over and hugged all three of us at the same time.
"Are you okay, Jul? Are you hurt?" Cynthia asked as I was holding him really tight. He nodded while digging his head in his mother's neck. We walked in and hugged Mater. I told Mater everything from the hospital. Cynthia, Star, and I all decided to leave tomorrow morning. Once everything settled down, I quickly called Roger's market to see if he was there. After a few rings, someone picked up.
"Hello?" I could tell it was Freddie.
"Hey Rocky, it's me. Is Roger there?" I asked.
"Oh, Hey Carla. No. Roger told me he went to the studio since you weren't at work."
"Okay, great, thanks," I hung up and dialed the studio's number.
"Abbey Road Studios, how can I help you?" I heard.
"Hello, may I speak to one of the guests there? He goes by Roger Taylor or one of the Beatles."
"May I ask who is calling?"
"Scarlett Walker."
"Yeah, one moment, please," I was put on hold for a few minutes, then I heard someone pick up the line.
"Scarlett, where the hell are you?!" Roger panicked.
"Scotland," I answered.
"Why the hell are you there?"
"John got into an accident. Star, Cynthia, and I rushed here with help from Kelly."
"Is everyone okay?"
"Yeah, John, Yoko, and Yoko's daughter got stitches and are still in the hospital. We're bringing Julian home tomorrow."
I heard sounds from the background and voices, then a "Move over."
"Hello?" I heard George.
"Hey, Hazza," I smiled.
"Scarlett?! Is Star with you?! Where are you guys?!"
"Yes, Star is with me. We're in Scotland because Lenny got into a car accident."
"Is he okay?" I heard Paul in the background.
"Am I on speakerphone?" I asked.
"Yes, but not the point. Is John okay?" Paul asked again.
"Lenny is fine, Yoko and her daughter are fine, and Julian is coming home with us tomorrow," I started to twirl the line, "Can someone do me a favor?"
"What, Lottie?" Ringo replied.
"We left Star's car at the place, but I'm sure we left the car unlocked, and Star realized she didn't have her keys with her," I started, "Can someone just pick it up before it gets stolen?"
"I got it," I heard George say, "Can I talk to her?"
"Yeah, sure," I put my hand on the phone, "Star! George is on the phone and wants to talk to you."
I heard a bang, guessing she fell, then ran over to me.
"Give me the phone," she demanded.
Star's POV
"Hello?" I answered, shooing Scarlett away. Scarlett rolled her eyes, made kissy noises, and then walked away after I flipped her off.
"So Scotland, Eh? I thought you would go to Paris at the last minute." George joked.
"Still a place in Europe," I smiled and bit my lip, "But I would've taken you to Paris. Sorry I didn't tell you."
"I'm just glad you're okay." George started, "Your work called me. They said you left two hours ago and couldn't get a hold of you. It gave me a Panic attack, then Roger came in saying Scarlett has been missing too."
"Sorry I freaked you out. I was going to call while we were waiting for our plane, but then Kelly offered her jet. We didn't think about anything else besides what was happening in Scotland," I looked around, "So how's the first session back for the new album?"
"We only recorded one song. How is John?"
"Got stitches. Yoko got the most damage. She has a problem with her back."
"How about the kids?"
"Julian just has shock while Yoko's daughter got stitches."
"Glad everyone is okay."
"Well, when John gets discharged, Scar and I must return to Scotland if you want to come?"
"Jeez, invite me the next time," I heard George laugh. I felt this flutter come to me, causing a blush, "Well, I was going to take you on a date tonight, but how about tomorrow when you land."
"Well, I'll love to go, but we just have to drop Cyn, Julian, and Scarlett first."
"Or, I can drive up in Scarlett's new 1967 Orange Plymouth Roadrunner that got dropped off and have Scarlett drive her gifted car."
"Wait, it did?! No, John would be pissed if we gave it to her and he wasn't there. Plus, she hasn't gotten her license yet."
"You have a point. I'll figure it out. So what are you doing?"
"I was on the couch, trying to have Julian sleep. I bet you, Scarlett got him to sleep."
"Oh, no doubt," I could hear George trying to hide his laughter, "But Ringo said Zak loves you more than Scarlett."
"What are you doing?" I softly asked.
"Talking to my love while the others are leaving," he yawned.
"Go home and sleep. You sound tired."
"But I want to talk to you, and I can't sleep without you," George whined through the phone. I couldn't help but smirk and shake my head, "I hope you know I can feel the smirk from over the phone."
"How did-"
"I just know, love."
I looked at my watch and realized it was 10:50. I heard yawning from the other line.
"Geo, it's almost eleven at night. Go home and go to bed. Scarlett wants us to leave at 7, and tomorrow I am all yours," I heard him groan over the phone, "I love you."
"I love you too. Good night, love."
"Good night, love."
July 2nd, 1969
Scarlett woke us up earlier than she told us. Before we boarded the plane, I called George to let him know Scarlett made us leave an hour earlier than expected. Julian fell back asleep between Scarlett and Cynthia. The hour and forty minutes were brutal. To be completely honest, I didn't sleep at all last night. Every time I did, I would wake up from a nightmare. I got some sleep but kept on waking up due to a nightmare. We finally landed. Cynthia grabbed Julian with one arm and his bag in the other. We walked out to see Roger and George talking. I didn't know Roger was coming. Julian saw the two men, signaled he wanted to be put down then ran over to them. Julian hugged George first, then gave Roger a hug; Roger looked pretty surprised that Julian hugged him. I walked up to hug George.
"Hi," I blissfully sighed.
"Hi," George kissed me. I smirked, biting my lip, and we gazed into each other's eyes.
"Ewww, why is everyone doing mushy stuff?" Julian closed his eyes. I looked at Scarlett and Roger, who had arms around each other. I quickly walked over and kneeled to Julian.
"Don't like mushy stuff, do you, Jul?" I asked.
"No, Daddy does mushy stuff with my Step-mum," Julian scrunched his face, "They're really mushy during the trip."
"Your daddy used to get really mushy with your mama-" I felt someone backhand me. I turned around to see Scarlett giving me a look, "Anyways, when people love each other, they get all mushy. Some day you will meet a girl that will give you the mushy feeling."
"I would never get mushy. It's gross," Julian scrunched his face again.
"You say that now little Lennon?" I started to tickle him. He laughed and asked if I could pick him up. I walked him to the car to put him in his seat as Cynthia put his bag in. It was George's car, and I gave Julian a hug and a kiss on his head.
"Alright, little man, I must drive my car back to my place. I will see you soon." I messed with his hair.
"Bye, Auntie Star," He hugged me with a gloomy tone. I backed out of the car as Cynthia went in. I went into my car, sat in the passenger seat, leaned on George, and smiled, "Where to?"
"It's a surprise," George kissed my forehead, "While we're driving, you can tell me all about Scotland."
"Don't get me started on how John got into the accident," I sighed, "He decided to drive then lost control of the car."
"Why was he driving? He drives like shit."
"Exactly."
"But Yoko has a back injury and has a long recovery."
"So will John be in and have her lay down, or will he work from home?"
"Who knows at this point," I sighed, "How was everything around here?"
"We only got one song done, and I have to go back today," George sighed, "So, after my surprise, I'm dropping you off since you looked exhausted and going to the studio."
"I'm not tired," I yawned.
"That yawn says otherwise," George smiled, "Did you sleep last night?"
"No, I naturally kept getting nightmares since it's the first week of July," I sighed, "It was never the happiest week of my life."
"I know. I witnessed it," George grabbed my hand. We stopped at the diner where we had our first date, "Well, I would take you to Bouestin because I know you like the food there, but I thought you probably want diner pancakes."
"I do, thank you," I smiled, we walked in, and everyone looked at us and whispered. It doesn't help that I'm in my work clothes from yesterday and look like I pulled an all-nighter lying in bed. We got our seats and ordered breakfast than I saw three familiar faces, Theo, Aaron, and Caroline. Caroline noticed me and walked over, "Star, where did you go yesterday!"
"Scotland." I smiled.
"Why the bloody hell were you in Scotland?" Aaron looked at me.
"Yeah, Boss wasn't so happy with you leaving and Cecilia already being out for a holiday," Theo looked at me, "I had to work late and miss my date with Maddie."
"So sorry," I rubbed my face.
"Are you coming in today?" Carlone asked, "You look like shit, so I want to say no."
"Thanks, Care," I laughed, "No, I'll call him when I get home and tell him why I left."
"Why did you?" Aaron asked.
"John got into a car accident, and I, my sister, and John's ex-wife went to Scotland last minute to see what happened."
"They didn't tell me or Scarlett's boyfriend, Roger," George added.
"Oh my god, is John Okay?" Aaron asked.
"Yes," I smiled, then Aaron realized George, and I was on a bit of a date. He gave me a smirk and then dragged the other two out of the diner.
"So my boss will probably make me write a story," I sighed.
"You're probably right," George laughed. I smiled, bit my bottom lip, and shook my head, "Why do you do that?"
"Do what?" I asked.
"Bite your lip when you smile."
"I don't know. I always did that. I sometimes do it when I get shy or nervous."
"It's cute," George smiled as our food came out, and we started talking.
Scarlett's POV
Today is the eighth anniversary of Nancy stabbing me and me getting the scar on my back. Roger drove me home but stopped at the premier to buy both of us breakfast. We got to my flat, I quickly changed into my pajamas, and we ate breakfast on the couch.
"You alright? You seem on edge," Roger asked.
"Yeah, today's the anniversary of when I got my scar on my back... it's been eight years," I took a sip of my milkshake.
"Oh, sorry," Roger muttered.
"It's alright. As I said, it's been eight years," I shrugged. We watched whatever was on the television, but I put on cartoons as a child. I love the looney tunes. Roger and I finished our breakfast and then cuddled up on the couch.
"Little Wolf?" Roger called out.
"Hm?" I looked up at him.
"I know it's probably not the best time to ask, but my mum wants to know if you could come over for dinner on Friday? So she can properly meet you, I know it's probably not the best right now, and I can tell her no if you want," Roger started to ramble on as I just put my finger over his lips.
"I can go," I softly said.
"But what about the family night?" Roger asked.
"We're probably not going to do a family night. John's in Scotland. I don't mind missing one to meet your family if there is one," I smiled. Roger moved my hair and gently kissed me.
"I love you," Roger crooned.
"I love you too," I breathlessly smiled.
July 4th,1969- Star's POV
I woke up in George's arm and could feel his gaze.
"Stop staring. It's weird," I mumbled. I think that is the most used sentence we say to each other.
"It's not weird looking at my girl," George smiled.
"When I'm sleeping, it is," I cuddled closer to him, "I don't want to get out of bed."
"Neither do I," George kissed me on top of the head, "But you have work, and I have to be at the studio at 2:45."
"I don't have work today. Boss told me that since I stayed up late at work, I can have the day off to sleep," I smirked, "So I am all yours until 2, and it is 7:45 now."
"Why do we wake up so early?"
"I don't know," I giggled, "But I don't mind it because I got some time with you before work."
"Well. I'm not complaining," George leaned towards me and kissed me. He looked at me, then at my cameras, "Stay right here."
I got confused as he got up to grab my polaroid camera, walked back then sat on my feet. He started to point the camera at me. I giggled a bit as he tried to get the camera right. George finally took the picture. The flash blinded me; the picture came out of the printer portation. He grabbed the shot, jumped back next to me, and started to shake it so the ink could make the picture. Once the picture showed up, this glare line was on the side. I looked at George, who had a 'Are serious' look on his face looking at the picture.
"I can't see your pretty eyes in this picture," George then looks at the photo and kisses my nose, "but it still shows your beauty."
"It looks good even though there is a glare," I smirked and grabbed my camera, "I probably forgot to clean the lenses before I put it back."
Scarlett's POV
I sat in Roger's car while playing with my ring. I was told I should tell Roger about my childhood all day, but I'm afraid to. Roger has some hint to it since we made references during the Liverpool trip, but he never asked about them, so I assumed he never heard the jokes. We're on our way for me to have dinner with his family, which doesn't feel any better.
"Little Wolf?" Roger looked at me, then back at the road.
"Hm?" I blinked, then looked at him.
"Are you alright? You've been playing with your ring while staring out," Roger asked.
"Yeah... well, no... I've been meaning to talk to you about something," I coughed. Like ripping off a bandaid, yeah?
"What's wrong, love? Are you breaking-"
"No, no, oh god, no." My eyes widened when I took a deep breath, "Remember when I told you about my depression and cutting, and I said there was this certain person that always made it hard?"
"Yeah, you didn't want to go any deeper into that, so I didn't push it," Roger shrugged, "Plus, the boys always told me to never ask about your childhood."
"Well, you kinda have to know now, since you stuck with me this long," I joked, "Well, my mum, Nancy, was the worst person in my life. She was the person that made it really hard. She was never home, and when she was... she was beating, cursing, and bringing down my siblings, my dad, and me. When I was eight, I got into trouble at school and got suspended for a couple of days when Nancy found out she had to actually watch me and be a mother for once in her life. She grabbed me out of bed and started to beat me, she almost beat me to the pulp, but my dad and sister stopped her before she could. That was the first time she hit me, far from the end. I finally snapped and fought back a few times, but it didn't end well for me in the long run."
"Sometimes, hearing glass shattering sets me off. Nancy used to throw plates, vases, and such at my siblings and me. She's also the one who stabbed me that caused the scar. I tried to protect Star, which I got in return. I'm always ashamed of it because I didn't fight her off hard enough. My brain will sometimes play mean tricks on me and give me flashbacks that set off anxiety attacks, PTSD, and depression episodes. That is also why I get nightmares or screams in my sleep. Even though she has been dead, she is still in my head."
"I know that's a lot to take in, and I'm sorry, I'm a real nut case..." I looked at my hands, not wanting to look up. It was quiet for a minute. I just looked down and fought back the tears. I noticed Roger's hand started to intertwine with one of mine then he brought it closer to him to kiss it again.
"How can I help you with them?" Roger asked.
"Just keep doing what you've been doing," I smirked as I leaned onto Roger.
"Thank you for telling me. I know that was hard for you," Roger smirked, "Also, Scarlett never apologized because of your mental health. It's not your fault nor a burden. I want to help you in any way, and I'm honored you told me. I hope I can help you because that's all I want. I want you to be happy, healthy, and feel safe and loved."
"I do feel all of those things... plus being in love," I smirked, "Thank you, really."
At the Taylor's...
Roger held the door open as I walked into his childhood home. I noticed pictures of Roger when he was little, some I've seen in my 2019 life while scrolling through Instagram, but most are unseen photos. I admired the pictures while Roger grabbed his mother and sister. I heard chattering and smelt the dinner that his mother had cooked for the four of us. I turned to see the three Taylors looking at me. One is the comfortable soft gaze as the two examined me. Roger walked over to kiss me on the cheek before breaking the awkwardness of the three women in the room.
"Mum, Clare, this is my girlfriend, Scarlett. Scarlett, meet my mum Winifred and my sister Clare," Roger introduced us.
"Hello Scarlett, it's lovely to meet you, dear," Winifred walked over to hug me, "Roger is always talking about you."
"Talking? More like whining for a month because you caught him snogging another woman," Clare looked at me, "I like you already."
"Whining for over a month?" I asked.
"Clare!" Roger and Winifred both yelled before Winifred coughed and looked at me, "Why don't we eat? You two must be hungry from a long drive."
Roger led me to the dining room. He pulled me out of a seat, and once he pulled my chair in, he kissed my cheek, then sat next to me. Winifred made this beautiful meal. The first few minutes were awkwardly quiet.
"So, Scarlett, do you have siblings?" Winifred asked.
"Yes, I have eight, six brothers, two sisters," I answered.
"Eight? What are their names?" Winifred looked at me.
"My oldest sibling is my sister Venessa. Then it goes down the line of my honorary brothers Stu, Richie, John, Paul, and George, then my twin, Star, is the baby." I explained, "I call my honorary brothers my brothers because I think the word honorary downgrades them."
"Are you close with them?"
"Eh, a bit. I'm closest with my twin than anything. Then my four brothers, John, Richie, Paul, and George, then Stu, Payton, and Venessa. Stu lives in Germany while Payton and Venessa are still in my hometown Liverpool."
"You're from Liverpool?" Clare looked at me.
"Yeah, scouser born and raised," I spoke with my scouse accent merging with my central London accent.
"When did you move out of Liverpool?" Winifred asked.
"1963. I lived with my brother John until I was 20. My dad died when I was 14, and my brother John has inherited my twin and me."
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry. What about your mother?"
"Scarlett, uh- doesn't have a mother," Roger coughed to keep me comfortable.
"She was around but wasn't my mum. The only mothering thing she never did was birth to my siblings and me," I explained.
"I'm sorry. But I get that Roger doesn't have a good relationship with his dad. It's best when he's not around," Winifred grinned as both Taylor siblings acted distant once their father was mentioned. I know Roger will tell me when he's ready, but it's my job to make him comfortable. I weaved my hand with Roger and leaned over to kiss him. Roger turned red with nerves. We changed the subject since we all had a mutual understanding that family is a touchy subject for us all.
"Roger told me you work for Kelly Price. How is that? I don't know much about fashion." Winifred asked.
"It's good. Kelly is a sweetheart," I smiled. I don't know if they didn't realize my social status or pretended like they didn't. But either way, I enjoy having a conversation like a normal human being, not someone with my social group. I told them about how I got a promotion then we changed the subject to music.
"Do you play anything? Assuming you're around music a lot with Smile," Winifred asked.
"Yes, I know the piano, bass, and guitar," I listed, "I know the basics of drums, though. My brothers are in a band, and my dad was obsessed with music. So I'm always around music."
"Don't you ever get tired?" Winifred asked.
"No, not really. I love music. It's a part of me, I guess," I shrugged.
"Have you gone to concerts?" Clare asked.
"Many," I nodded.
"Who have you seen?" Clare asked.
"Oh y'know, Beatles, Stones, The Who, and all kinds of people like that," I explained.
"Who's your favorite?"
"I have to say my favorite was Elvis. I saw him in this secret gig. My sister freaked out; she loves Elvis. I would say the Beatles, but I've seen them enough times. I got sick of them," I shrugged. Once we finished dinner, Clare grabbed my hand and took me to Roger's old room. It had all kinds of posters on his wall and his old school books.
"His favorite Beatles Twin poster is over his bed," Clare pointed as I sat on his bed and looked up to see my 1964 promo poster. I cringed from the look. When Star and I just got our Beatle Twins titles, Brian Epstein got Star and me to do a photoshoot and send out promo pictures, posters, etc. So the media knew who we were. Epstein thought if the girls loved the lads and the boys loved Star and me, that would create a bigger platform for the Beatles, which did work out in his favor.
"Roger loves the brown-headed one; I always mix the two." Clare told me as she looked up, "Her name is Scarlett Walk- Oh My God, You're Roger's celebrity crush! You're the Scarlett Walker like Beatles twin Scarlett Walker!" Clare looked at me.
"Clare, keep your voice down," Roger leaned onto his door frame.
"You're dating pop culture royalty!" Clare stood up, "Plus, your celebrity crush! I have to tell mum."
Clare ran downstairs before Roger and I had a word edge-wise, but the two of us chucked, and Roger walked over to his bed to sit next to me.
"Do you think they liked me before the Beatles Twin thing came out?" I asked.
"My mum told me she loves you," Roger kissed my nose.
"Clare told me you have a thing for the brunette Beatles twin. Usually, people love the blonde one more," I teased.
"Eh, the brunette twin is hotter and more interesting," Roger cupped my face, "And smart, and very underestimated. But I can see this desire to break out of the goodie two shoe label, but she seems to struggle to get out."
"She is a bit stuck. Her sister owns the wild crown," I looked into his eyes.
"I'm sure I can help you out there," Roger moved his hand and started to stroke my chin.
"That's hard because I'm supposed to be the calm one."
"Darling, how are you the calm one when you're constantly on the verge of a mental breakdown because you just shove everything down."
"I'm the most relied on. I'm not supposed to fuck up. I'm the one everyone goes to."
"I know, but that will be your downfall one day."
"I know." I sighed. I love Roger because he sees me, not the lie I put out for everyone. Only a select few can see who I actually am. Star being one of them, next is George. He always had that ability to see your best self. Of course, my other siblings also see who I actually am, but most of them just fall for the lie. John never did. I guess he can see if I am bullshitting or not for the time we spent together. John is one of the only brothers that doesn't have that unique ability George has. He can only tell if I'm bullshitting, and when I'm not okay, he comes and talks until I am. Roger can see the real me and sense and know what I sincerely want. It's to the point where I don't even realize what I want until Roger helps me fulfill the unknown desire or need. He truly connects and understands me on a level I never felt with anyone else. And it feels fantastic.
"We should go back down. My mum and Clare probably think we're fucking up here," Roger joked as I giggled.
"Probably," I giggled.
July 5th, 1969- Scarlett's POV
My head is in the crook of Roger's neck, and his arms are around my waist, pulling me closer to him. I was comfortably sleeping in his embrace before I heard the phone go off. Eh, if it's important, they'll leave a message, call twice... or both. The phone stopped ringing for a brief second, then it started to ring again. I sighed, opened my eyes, wiggled out of Roger's embrace, and dragged myself over to the phone.
"Ello," I yawned.
"Hello, sorry to bother you but is this Scarlett or Star Walker?"
"Scarlett Walker here."
"I'm the doctor at Golspie's Lawson Memorial Hospital. I am calling about Mr. John Lennon."
"Yes, what did he do now?"
"Nothing. I want to say Mr. Lennon will get discharged today with his wife and stepchild."
"Okay, um, we will be there soon as we can."
"Okay, thank you."
I hung up the phone and called Kelly.
"Hello," Kelly answered.
"Hey, can I borrow the jet again?" I asked.
"John's coming back?" Kelly yawned
"Yes," I rubbed my eyes, "They just called."
"Yeah, I'll call the pilot."
"I owe you one."
"Not really. Bye, Scar."
"Bye, Kels."
I walked into Star and George's room, the two were all cuddled up, but I still could wake up Star by torturing her, and George not feeling a thing. I walked over and started to slap Star's face, more like a tap. She loves me, I swear.
"What?" Star whined, hitting my hand away.
"Get up. We gotta go to Scotland to get Johnny-boy," I pulled my hand away.
"Can we leave him there?" Star asked, shifting her position to get cuddly with George.
"Sadly no. George, Paul, and Ringo probably need him soon as possible," I looked at her.
"She's right," George mumbled.
"Fine," Star sighed, starting to wake up.
"Thank you, we're using Kelly's jet, so we're in no rush, really," I shrugged, walking out. I walked back into my room, and Roger had drilled half his face into my pillow. I smirked, walking over to him so I could crawl on top of him and start to move his golden locks to see his face. I plant soft kisses along his jawline and neck.
"Baby," I soothed as Roger hummed, enjoying every kiss.
"Yes, my Little Wolf?" Roger opened his blue eyes that Immediately focused on me as soon as they opened.
"I have to go to Scotland today. If you wanna come?" I giggled as Roger's hand gently stroked up and down my back.
"Ooh, I got invited and told the second time," Roger joked as I rolled next to him.
"Real funny," I rolled my eyes as Roger pulled him closer to him and kissed my temple.
"I would love to come," Roger gently said.
"Okay," I turned and moved a piece of his hair. He's growing his hair into his famous mullet that every 2019 fan has the hots over. Roger softly grabbed my hand and softly kissed it, "We have to get ready now."
Roger groaned as I got out of bed and looked through my clothes. I could feel Roger's eyes on me. I pulled out a pair of jeans and a t-shirt and then looked at Roger.
"Yes?" I smirked at him.
"Nothing," Roger got out of my bed and walked over to give me a quick kiss, "You just look gorgeous."
"Thank you," I smiled at him as Roger grabbed a change of clothes since he's been leaving some extra things of clothes here, then walked out while closing the door. I changed into a white T-shirt with Good Times written in blue and jeans with blue high tops converse. I have a lot of different colors of converse and gogo boots, those two are the only shoes I can work with, but I have a few other shoes besides those two. I walked out of my room as Roger walked out of the bathroom. Star and I walked into the bathroom to brush our teeth. Elaina followed Star and me to the bathroom. She was trying for Star to let her borrow her car because Elaina totaled her car the other day with her reckless driving.
"It's not like you're going to use it today," Elaina begged as Star started to brush her teeth, "You'll be in Scotland."
"Not for the whole day," Star said with a mouthful of toothpaste.
"Depends if John wants to quickly visit Mater before we leave," I grabbed my toothbrush and started to brush my teeth.
"But please, can I borrow your car?" Elaina asked.
"If you don't ruin my baby," Star spit out the toothpaste foam.
"I thought Geo was your baby?" Elaina asked.
"He is, but I didn't spend 22,874 Pounds on him," Star looked at Elaina.
"You spent that much on your car?!" Elaina asked in shock
"Yes, I got a few thousand off because I was a Beatles twin, and they offered to switch the driver's side to the UK side for free," Star walked out with Elaina following her. George and Roger came in.
"Did I hear correctly that Star spent £22,874 on her car?" Roger asked, "How did she get that much money?"
"We inherited much money from our dad when we were 18. She spent that money on her car," I spat out the toothpaste foam.
"Yeah, I remember John flipping out because he said no to her buying the car," George laughed. I walked out to Star, giving Elaina the rules and regulations of her car. After a few more minutes of watching Star tell Elaina if she crashes Star's car, she should consider a lock on her door, we started to leave.
"Don't make me regret it!" Star said, throwing the keys at her as we were leaving.
"I won't!" Elaina called out as we were closing the door on her.
Star's POV (Later...)
We successfully brought John back to London in one piece. He wanted to go to ours and invite the rest of the boys. Scarlett and I are in her bedroom as the Beatles play around with their guitars in the living room. Besides me, their partners are sitting around watching the kids play together. Scarlett and I are reading the series of our dad's journals. Back when my father was still alive, he had this journal. He got a new one every few months, but he always jotted down his life. When we used to ask what it was, he always responded with, "one day when I'm gone, you'll read the dumb shit I did." When he died, they couldn't be found until Scarlett and I were in the attic in Liverpool and found them along with the yearly photo album I took over. We got interrupted by the phone, and I got called by George that it was for me.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Hello, is this Ms. Walker?" Someone asked.
"Well, there's two living here. You need to be a bit more specific," I shrugged.
"Ms. Star Walker."
"Yep."
"Hello, I am officer Ward. Do you own a 1966 blue mustang convertible?"
"Yes."
"Do you know an Elaina Wilson?"
"Yes, she's one of my flatmates."
"I'm so sorry that Ms. Wilson crashed your mustang, She is alright, but the car is damaged."
"Hold one a second?" I put my hand over the receiver and cursed Elaina out. This was the one thing I told her not to fucking do!
"Ms. I can hear you." The officer said.
"Right, sorry, do I need to come to the station?" I rubbed my face.
"Yes, it would be recommended."
"Alright, thank you, officer," I hung up the phone and walked out, "Elaina. Crashed. My. Fucking. Car."
"Did she really?" Scarlett walks out, laughing.
"This is not funny," I looked at her, "I used most of the money dad gave me for that!"
"That sounds like your problem," Scarlett laughed, "She crashed her car yesterday. Did you seriously think she wouldn't do the same thing?"
"Ye-"
"It's Elaina we're talking about." Scarlett cut me off.
"Fuck," I sighed as Scarlett, and the other three laughed at me, "Anyways, I now have to go down to the station, Scarlett. You might not have a best friend after this."
"Don't kill her," Scarlett said as I started to walk out.
"No promises," I closed the door and stormed to Theo and Aaron's flat.
"Yes?" Aaron answered the door, "Why do I see a homicidal rage in your eyes?"
"Because my sister's stupid mate just crashed my baby," I blinked.
"And you're here; why?" Aaron asked.
"I'm looking at my ride," I smiled.
"Okay, this is my problem; why?" Aaron asked.
"Because I need to bring someone to make sure I don't murder El, and you would at least let me get the first punch in before backing me off," I shrugged.
"Alright, let's go," Aaron grabbed his keys, and we left. Aaron drove us to the station, and I saw Xaiver, Ryder, and Kit in their trainee uniforms. Near them was my poor baby destroyed. The front of the windshield is smashed, the front is pretty dented, and the back is smashed.
"I'm going to kill her," I blinked, looking at my poor baby.
"Damn, what did she do? Run through a fucking wall?" Aaron looked at my car, "That ain't a mustang. That's a clump of metal and broken glass."
"Done yet?" I looked at him.
"No," Aaron said, we got out of the car, and the three bozos looked at me.
"Spark, what are you doing here?" Xavier walked up to me.
"Trying my best not to kill my sister's best mate for doing that to my fucking car," I pointed to my car.
"Yeesh, on the good side, it could be fixed," Xavier looked at my car.
"What did she do? Run it through a wall?" Kit asked.
"That's what I said!" Aaron said.
"I'm going inside," I muttered, walking in and looking right at Elaina, then trotting over to her.
"What the hell did you do to my baby?!" I glared at Elaina, "The poor thing is destroyed!"
"Star, I am so, so sorry," Elaina apologized.
"What did you do?! You had one fucking job!" I glared.
"Ms. Walker?" a young man coughed, walking over.
"In the flesh," I breathed, "What happened to my car?"
"Ms. Wilson was under the influence of marijuana while driving and crashed it into a wall, but before she got hurt, she jumped out, and the car crashed into other cars," the officer started to explain, "The expenses are going to be a lot of work for the crash and-"
"Wait, who is paying these expenses?" I asked.
"It was your car, ma'am, and you're quite rich too," the officer looked at me.
"She's the one that crashed the car because she was under the influenced, and she caused the destruction," I pointed to Elaina, "It's not my fucking fault! She was the one fucking driving. She is the fucking one paying!"
"The hell I am!" Elaina looked at me, "Your car, and you're fucking rich!"
"You were driving under the influence and caused the crash!" I looked at her, "Therefore, you pay!"
"Tell her she's paying the expenses off." I looked at the officer, pointing to Elaina. I noticed Aaron, Jasper, Xavier, and Kit leaning against the wall, watching us and eating vending machine snacks.
"The hell I am!" Elaina looked at me.
"Please tell Ms. Wilson that she needs to pay for the fucking expenses from her fucking accident!" I ignored Elaina and looked at the officer.
"Ma'am, I need you to calm down," the officer stated
"No, I am not fucking calming the fuck down! She ruined my baby and someone else's property and got away with it!" I crossed my arms, "She should've gotten her license taken away with her first DUI and learned how to fucking drive before getting it back!"
"That is a good idea, Ms. Walker. Thank you for your feedback," the officer said, then pulled Elaina to talk to her.

When Worlds Collide | Remus Lupin x Reader
Word Count: 4,535 words
Warnings: cussing, a lot of year 3 spoilers, fluff
July 28th, 1993. Diagon Alley. 12:38 pm.
A wide grin crept onto your face, letting a few giggle leave your lips as you untangle your hair out of the poor snowy white owls talons, scratching behind its head watching it sink into your touch. Offering the creature a treat, the bird happily hooted into your hand flying away. Its wings contrasting against the stark blue sky as you made your way around all the shops with a smile on your face. The bags in your hands sagged under the weight of all of your new clothes and supplies for the upcoming school year.
In the upcoming month, Diagon Alley would be bursting with children and you knew the kids would need the supplies more so you would rather buy your things before hand so you wouldn’t risk the chance of leaving kids empty handed.
“I had no idea you had a special talent with animals, Professor,” The sound of someone speaking behind you made you jump, turning to face a sandy haired man whose eyes twinkled happily. You felt yourself relax, a smile creeping onto your face nudging Remus playfully. A blush coating your face as he let out a deep chuckle walking alongside you, as you made your way down the street.
“It’s a special talent of mine. They just get so excited to see me, they end up running into me. Purely intentional,”
“Of course... tell me more about it,” He mused, the teasing tone of his voice made you flush a deeper shade of pink. You giggled, shaking your head adjusting your hold on your bags spotting Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlour out of the corner of your eye feeling your mouth water at the thought of some ice cream in this blazing heat.
“I’d love to tell you more about this over some ice cream. Care to join, Lupin?”
“You know, I do have a name, right?”
“Of course, but where’s the fun in that?” Remus shook his head his curls ruffling, following after the bubbly Hufflepuff whose face only brightened as they approached the Ice Cream Parlour. “Alright, I’m going to find us a table and set my bags down. Could you order me a cone? I’ll take anything with chocolate- ooh! Could I get something with caramel in it as well?”
Remus’ eyebrows raised in surprise, parting his mouth to ask if she wanted anything else but you had already bounced away. You waved at some people who you had recognized letting them drag you into a small conversation. He approached the man whose face looked rather enthusiastic, ordering his favorite flavor from the shop, ordering the same for you knowing if you were as big of a chocolate fan as him then you would adore the cold treat. Remus gracefully paid the man, offering a small thanks grabbing a hold of the treats walking over to you chewing on his bottom lip nervously.
Your face brightened up as you saw him approaching with a tall ice cream cone, grabbing a hold of the treat ready to devour the chocolate cream, “Thank you, Lupin. This looks delicious- I mean when has chocolate ever looked gross? Never that’s when.” You eagerly took a bite out of the cone, your eyes rolling into the back of your head at the sweetness overwhelming your senses.
“That good, huh?”
“Yes! I never thought chocolate would taste much different with chunks of chocolate mixed in with it.” You hummed, adjusting your position on your seat as Remus took a seat across from you his demeanor looking more shy than you had previously seen it.
“How much do I owe you, Lupin?”
“Don’t worry about it,”
“No, please. Let me repay you.”
“I’m just going to deny it regardless, (Y/N)” He mused, cocking his eye brow at you. The hufflepuff just nudged him and thanked him softly.
Eyeing your surroundings, locking eyes with a few wandering stares in your direction knowing they were aimed towards the scarred man in front of you. You mustered up the harshest glare you could, without a second thought. The people quickly looked away pretending to be occupied, smiling to yourself enjoying the cold treat.
“You know, you didn’t have to do that... I’m used to all the staring.”
“Just because you’re used to it doesn’t mean you should have to endure it. You’re a human being, with emotions just like everybody else. So what if you have scars on your face? That doesn’t make you any less human."You huffed, running your fingers through your fly aways. "I like to think of scars as- well, like memories! Fun stories to tell my friends, or strangers who like to stick their noses in everyone else’s business” You spoke the second part of your sentence a tad bit louder, knowing the people were eavesdropping on your conversation making them hush their whispered talk.
Remus felt his tummy flutter at your words, knowing you wouldn’t be saying those things if you knew the truth. If you knew who he truly was... a monster. But for now, you didn’t, and until you did he was going to soak up as much time with you as he possibly could. Letting the smile reappear on his face, as he watched you eagerly ramble about the upcoming school year and how excited you were to finally be working alongside a dear friend.
September 1st, 1993. The Hogwarts Express. 10:42 am.
Remus sluggishly plopped down in an empty compartment, wrapping his coat around himself pressing his face against the cold glass. You shook your head at the poor soul, rubbing his back comfortingly. The sandy haired man had told you that he had barely gotten any sleep due to this bad stomach bug, and to make matters worse he woke up that morning feeling like he had been hit over the head with a bludger. You had offered to give him a ride to Hogwarts, but he insisted the train would be just fine and that he would meet you at the school. Next thing he knew, the Hufflepuff is dragging him eagerly through the train waving to past students and new faces a wide smile on her face on the lookout for an empty compartment.
“You didn’t have to accompany me-”
“Lupin, I never have to do anything. But, I was not going to let you sit in pain surrounded by a bunch of kids. I personally love kids, but I would end up hexing a couple if I was in your state,” A deep chuckle left Remus, eyeing the Hufflepuff with a warm gaze, you felt your breath hitch as the proximity of the two of you finally clicked in. “Try to get some rest, Lupin. I’ll wake you up if absolutely necessary.”
“Thanks, love. Try not to hex any kids while I’m asleep,” You let out a loud laugh shaking your head at the man who was quickly falling asleep, his eyes drooping before he finally closed them his body slumping against the cold glass.
“No promises...” Mumbling under your breath, standing up from your position next to him moving your belongings to the overhead struggling with the last luggage due to it being out of reach huffing angrily. The sound of people entering the compartment caught your attention, turning to face the infamous Golden Trio eyeing you with a smile on their faces. You flashed them your signature smile, bringing them into a hug.
“Hi, you guys! How are you? Did you guys have a good summer?” The four of you spoke eagerly about the summer and their plans, exchanging all sorts of fun things they had done lifting the spirit of the room before Ron looked down at the unmoving body off to the side a confused expression on his freckled face.
“Um... Professor? Who’s the dead man in the corner over there?” You let out a chuckle, shaking your head at his bluntness to which Hermione had smacked him upside the head for, leaving the dark haired boy to snicker at the exchange.
“He’s not dead, Ron. He’s sleeping. And his name is Professor Lupin to you,”
“Professor? Is he our new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher?”
“Correct, Harry! Wow, you really do have some brain activity up in there. I was getting quite worried there for a moment,” You teased the dark haired boy who just flushed, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. “Let’s take a seat before we go flying, alright?”
The next 2 hours went by like a breeze, with you speaking energetically to the trio enjoying your bag of caramel popcorn you brought from home the sweet aroma filing the air. Hermione was happily eating a Cauldron Cake, while Ron and Harry were more or less goofing off with the cakes. You were in the middle of telling them a story of your life before you came to Hogwarts when the train began to slow down the trees you guys were passing slowly became more visible. You hastily looked down at your watch, Hermione doing the same looking around with your wand in hand.
“We must be nearly there,” Uttered the redhead whose stomach growled loudly, leaning forward to take a look out the giant glass window, both you and Hermione eyed him a confused look on your faces.
“We can’t be there yet,”
Before you could agree, the sudden stopping of the train sent you nearly tumbling to the floor casting a fast spell to catch the falling luggages sending them back into their rightful places. The rain which you had hardly paid attention to before roared louder, slapping harshly against the train and then without warning all of the lights went away leaving your vision to be swallowed by the darkness.
“Lumos.” You mumbled, the light coming from your wand lighting up the entire compartment. The compartment door slid open, the nervous boy practically clambering over Harry in a rush to get away from the dark hallway. Neville’s chest heaved up and down offering the Professor a nervous smile. “You guys stay here, I’m going to go check with the driver.”
The sound of someone else making their way in, the flowing red hair caught your attention giving Ginny a comforting smile offering her a spot next to her brother which she happily took. The 5 of them looked cramped, but they weren’t complaining, the tension in the room was thick. They would all rather be stacked on top of one another like this rather than being alone.
“Ouch-”
“Ron, your elbow!-”
“-Crookshanks stay-”
“That was my nose-”
“Quiet!” The sound of Remus speaking startled you, turning to face the man whose face looked like it hadn’t slept in days but his eyes were wide awake and alert as he eyed the trembling children and your familiar frame standing next to him. He stood up, towering over each and every single one of you adjusting his coat so it hung over his shoulders. “Stay here, don’t move until one of us comes back-”
An unsettling sensation seemed to wash over the people in the compartment, the room drastically growing colder as a dark cloaked figure entered the room it’s dark faceless face staring down each and every single one of us.
A walking shadow, towering over you like a cloud moving around like a snake about to attack its prey.
The presence of it in the room made the children physically shiver, clinging onto one another feeling their chests tighten.
You felt your body struggle to breath as you saw the dementor take a hover forwards. Both you and Remus pointed your wands aggressively at the figure, getting in between him and the kids.
The dementor hesitated before its head snapped towards Harry taking in a shaky breath the rattling of its chest sending shivers down your body. The boy’s body went rigid, his eyes rolling into the back of his head his body sliding onto the cramped compartment floor. You felt your heart clench, dropping down to your knees cradling his head onto your lap so he wouldn’t end up hitting it as he began spasming.
“None of us are hiding Sirius Black under our coats. Go.” Remus angrily demanded, not faltering from his stance. The dementor paid no attention to the scarred man, leaning down to the trashing body on the floor. You whipped your head up, angry tears in your eyes pointing your wand at the dementor.
“Expecto Patronum!”
You hastily shouted, letting all of your happy memories linger in your brain sending your patronus towards the dementor who just fought against it but he couldn’t get through forcing him to leave. After the cloaked figure left your compartment, the light seemed to make its way back surrounding all of you with some warmth.
You crumpled against the ground, your breathing heavy after having used the powerful spell. Harry laid motionless against you, his face covered in sweat from the fit he had just finished having.
“Holy- I haven’t used that sucker in forever,”
“And you shouldn’t of had to. Stay here. I have to speak to the driver and hopefully get an owl out to Dumbledore.” Remus whispered down at you, standing up to his full height making his way out of the room before he turned on his heel tossing you a wrapped parcel, “Eat some of this, and make sure Harry gets some too.”
You shakily opened the parcel coming face to face with a block of chocolate, breaking off a piece popping it into your mouth. An immediate warmth spread throughout your body, regulating your breathing as you saw the worried looks on the children’s faces.
“Mister Weasley, would you mind slapping Harry awake?”
“Not at all,” You carefully dropped Harry’s head onto Ron’s cloak which he lent without a second thought. Breaking off a few pieces for the remaining people in the compartment, who gratefully took the chocolate their faces visibly relaxing. Who in the world let Dementors come so far from Azkaban? Let alone near these children. I am going to hex someones boss into oblivion, you angrily thought to yourself shakily standing up after making sure Harry was alive and breathing.
September 1st, 1993. The Great Hall. 7:38 pm.
The feast was about to start, and you were practically bouncing with energy at the thought of all the first years about to come crawling through those big double doors. Remus looked down at you with a nervous smile, catching sight of all the new faces practically whispering about him right in front of his face shifting nervously his coat hanging off of his shoulders much like it did on the train.
“How are you not a wreck after the incident on the train? Casting a spell like that takes a hell of a lot out of you, love”
“I was angry at first, but I didn’t want that to be the first impression these kids have of me. So, I helped myself to a little bit of your chocolate, don’t worry I’ll buy you more. and now I feel like I’m running on 3 cans of Red Bull.” Remus chuckled at your muggle remark, your smile never leaving your face.
Just as you opened your mouth your stomach growled rather loudly, a faint blush making its way across your face wanting to avoid eye contact with the two professors sandwiching you. Sheepishly nudging Severus whose upper lip just twitched, turning to face the sea of kids who were coming in through the double doors.
Subconsciously adjusting your position, placing your signature warm smile on your face feeling the nerves from the kids all the way from where you were seated. Remus fidgeted slightly, feeling his leg brush against yours as he saw the never ending clutter of 1st Years in the Great Hall. The sorting of the kids went surprisingly fast, clapping just a tad bit eagerly if they were sorted into Hufflepuff, but you didn’t let anyone else know that. You hadn’t even realized Dumbledore was speaking until halfway through his speech, quickly focusing all of your attention on the Headmaster.
“On a happier note, I am pleased to welcome two new teachers to our rank this year.” You felt yourself having to hide the grin making its way onto your face as you clapped enthusiastically as Remus stood up bashfully, bowing slightly as Dumbledore called his name out. Letting out a wide grin, and a small holler as Hagrid stood up once his name was called his face a bright red wiping his sweaty hands on his heavy coat. The Gryffindor table seemed to have lost it, nearly jumping out of their seats to congratulate their favorite teacher at Hogwarts.
“Let’s not keep you guys waiting, dig in!”
A sound of joy left your lips as piles of delicious food appeared in front of your very own eyes the intoxicating smell of the food made your mouth water, happily helping yourself to their delicious chicken and mashed potatoes.
“Did you miss the food, Lupin? I know for a fact I gained about 10 pounds my first month teaching at Hogwarts from the food alone.”
You teased, shoving a spoonful of mashed potatoes into your mouth eyeing the freckled boy who looked like a boy on Christmas day a smear of cheese on the corner of his mouth.
“Yes... I don’t think I have eaten a meal close to as good as the food here.”
“Hey, Lupin. You got a little bit of cheese right there-” The brunette blushed, wiping at his mouth with a nearby napkin. The remainder of the dinner you spent happily talking to Remus and occasionally getting the attention of Severus who would chime in a stoic look on his face until the sandy haired man hastily left the table claiming he had forgotten something. By the time it was time to return to your respected chambers you couldn’t help but feel a little glum, you didn’t quite want the night to end just yet. Which is why you took it upon yourself to sneak out of your chambers past curfew, much like you did during your last year at Hogwarts, making your way towards the kitchens a skip in your step.
“I do believe it is past curfew, Professor.” You nearly let out a scream turning on your heel, coming face to face with Professor Snape whose face looked happier to see you than it had during the feast. Playfully shoving his shoulder, shaking your head at the tall man who was sporting a small smile.
“You-you scared the hell out of me! I thought I was alone.”
“Well, I think you were a little off-”
“Oh shush,” Letting out a small chuckle, running your fingers through your messy locks catching glimpse of the vial in his grasp. Nudging his empty hand, motioning towards the vial with your head. “What’s that for?”
He visibly stiffened for a split second, and if it weren’t for the fact that you were intently looking at him you would have missed it. “Dumbledore wanted me to bring this down to Lupin, apparently he needs it for his upcoming Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson.”
“Huh... well I hope it all goes well. I’m going out for a little walk out by the Whomping Willow. You’re more than welcome to join me, Severus.” You teased the lanky man, walking backwards a smirk on your face. His lips twitched, tilting his head to look at your retreating figure.
“Come help me deliver this, and then we can go on your so called walk.”
“That’s the spirit, Severus!”
October 30th, 1993. The Forbidden Forest. 12:35 am.
The werewolf standing in front of you caused a wave of goosebumps to make their way down your arms, halting your movements knowing they could go charging at you at any moment. The creature tilted its head, taking a couple steps forwards your still form. You didn’t expect to find anyone out and about this late, let alone a werewolf that made your short stature look pathetic next to him. Holy... I don’t wanna die. I don’t wanna die. Merlin- your thoughts were cut short by the feeling of the creature nuzzling against your hand. You tentatively rubbed his hairless face, which in turn made the creature whine nudging you more aggressively. Letting out a soft chuckle, rubbing his head without as much hesitation.
“You’re alright buddy... I know, I know. I’m right here. Don’t worry. Are you hungry? I can go get you something to eat,” The werewolf let out a loud howl at your words making you laugh, never letting go of his face knowing he was probably feeling stressed. “Okay, okay. Let’s go get you fed, alright?”
The next couple of hours you spent trying to fix up the werewolf wounds, trying your hardest not to inflict any pain on the creature. You were tired beyond belief but you didn’t want to leave before morning, to try to catch a glimpse of the creature human form. It was around 5:30 am when the sun had began to bring some light to the sky, making the creature freak out.
“Hey... hey it’s okay. Look, I’ll be right here until you finish transitioning okay? I’m not going anywhere...” The werewolf froze, shifting its weight letting out a soft whine at your words. “Come here,” You made small grabby hands at the creature, who happily made its way over to you nuzzling into your touch as the sun crept its way along the horizon small rays of the sun streaming in through the forest. The werewolf let out painful groans, crumbling further on you its upper body sprawled across your lap as it felt itself transitioning. You hushed the hairless creature trying to ignore the pained cries and the cracking of its bones. The next couple of minutes you spent looking away from the howling creature as bare skin started poking through, not wanting to invade their privacy.
A loud sob left Remus’ lips as he laid naked and vulnerable on the lap of one of his former classmates, “P-please... don’t leave...” Your head perked up at the familiar voice, turning to face the sandy haired man who was trying to cover himself with his hands but failing miserably.
“Oh, Rem...” Hushing at the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, hastily tugging off your black robes covering the shivering man. He let you wrap him up, groaning softly as he tried to sit up. “Let me help you-”
“I’m okay... I-I got this.” He huffed, his arms shaking from straining to push himself off of the ground. After many failed attempts he finally got himself into a sitting position, his back hitting the hard bark on a nearby tree. Your eyes scanned his bare chest and torso, not failing to notice the toned body underneath the robes. He had the black fabric covering his lower half, along with half of his torso. “Why aren’t you running away like everyone else?”
“Why would I?” You hummed, making yourself comfortable next to the werewolf who just stared down at the hands on his lap,
“You’re still Remus, aren’t you? And... even in your werewolf form you didn’t lay a single finger on me, Rem. Look, I know that you think you’re a monster but I just don’t see it.”
“Don’t say things you don’t mean, love-”
“Remus. Have you ever known me to be a liar? I mean, you could ask anybody. I have only ever lied once... and that was when people asked me about my animagus form.” His eyes peeled open, turning to eye you his eyebrows furrowed. You just gave him a cheeky grin, standing up from your position on the cold ground brushing off any stray leaves and dirt off of your clothes facing the man who just stared at you curiously. Without a second thought you had quickly formed into a gorgeous wolf, shaking your fur out a glint in your icy eyes. Remus’ jaw dropped, his eyes wide trying to form words at the sight of you standing there in broad daylight. Just as quickly as you had appeared, your wolf form quickly shifted back into your human self making your way back towards the flabbergasted man.
“B-but... since when-”
“You and the marauders weren’t the only mischievous teenagers at Hogwarts.” You teased, taking your place next to the Marauder who just flashed you a genuine smile letting out a small chuckle. “But... I, unlike you guys, waited to legally become an animagus.”
“Ah, and the Hufflepuff in you strikes again.”
“I will throw you into the Black Lake, Lupin.” He rolled his eyes at your harmless threat, turning his head to lock eyes with your soft stare. “Let me take you back to Dumbledore, oh wait, you need clothes... right.”
October 30th, 1993. Defense Against the Dark Arts Classroom. 11:36 pm.
“You didn’t have to spend your Saturday with me, love. I know you have important things to plan for your classes, I honestly could have been fine-”
“Remus... you’re not forcing me to do anything. I promise. I wanted to spend my free time with you, and I have loads to talk to my students about. And if not, I have the perfect Professor in mind to bring in to help teach my class.” A light blush sprinkled his cheeks, running his fingers through his locks as he eyed the grinning Hufflepuff who just pointed down at the forgotten chocolate bar on his desk, to which he just huffed popping a piece of the savory treat into his mouth. “There you go!”
“You are even worse than Pomfrey when I don’t take my vials,”
“I take offense to that, Lupin.”
“Oh so we’re back to last name basis now? Alright then-”
“No! Don’t you dare-”
“Mrs. Black-”
“Remus!” You whined, shoving the sandy haired boy playfully who just chuckled at your attempt to shove him not moving an inch from his position a cheeky smile on his scarred face, “I dated him for 3 months, not 3 years!”
“Tomato, tomato.” A small pout formed on your lips, making Remus melt at your pursed lips parting his mouth to speak before a loud cough interrupted them looking up to come face to face with Severus.
“Is this a bad time?”
“Of course not, Severus. Did you need something?” You chirped, taking a small bite of your chocolate balls.
“I-uh... I came to deliver something for Lupin. But I can come back later-”
“She knows, Severus.”
“Right. Well, I didn’t see you in the Shrieking Shack last night and I was wondering where you were.”
“A certain Muggle Studies Professor was with me last night. She stayed with me up until I morphed back, and even then she walked me back to the Hospital Wing.” A small smile tugged at your lips, rolling your eyes at the dramatic tone of his voice. “Dare I say she even gave me mouth to mouth-”
“Alrighty Mister! That’s enough of that.” Hastily standing up from your seat, chuckling at his words brushing your hair out of your face. Severus had the smallest of smirks on his face as he helped you not trip over the sea of desks. “I’ll be in my office if you need me, Lupin. If anything, and I mean anything bothers you just call for me and I’m there,”
“You don’t have-”
“I know. But I want to...” You whispered softly, reaching over to press a much awaited kiss onto Remus’ cheek holding yourself there momentarily before pulling away giggling at his reddening face.
“Goodnight, Remus.”
“Goodnight...” He mumbled, waving to your retreating form waiting until you walked out of the room before slamming his face onto his desk groaning loudly. “Severus?” The dark haired man hummed in response, his eyebrows raised. “How much do I have to pay for you to hex me?”
“I’d do it for free.”

Shell
Author: bvidzsoo
Warnings: violence and swearing
Pairing: Park Chanyeol x female reader
Summary: Mermaids and Pirates, in this story they are all true. Fairytales come to life when you least expect them, bringing you on amazing adventures. What you could have never even imagined became a nightmare as soon as you are kidnapped by some cursed pirates that perhaps aren’t as evil as myths make them out to be.
A/N: Well damn, it’s been a long time since I have written something but motivation hasn’t been with me for a long time now. Maybe it’s the stress and the time I don’t have anymore, but quarantine made sure I have enough time now. This one shot has been sitting in my drafts for a long time now so I’m glad I finally finished it. This was a request btw and if the one who requested it sees it, I hope you enjoy it even though I made some changes! Happy reading now!
Have you ever heard of mermaids? Do you believe in mermaids? What about pirates? Do you fear them? Well, you better do. Pirates are ruthless men who navigate on the seas and at night, when everyone is sleeping, they make a stop at shore towns and then...they robe the whole village, killing men and taking the women and children.
Even if these are just myths, people in the town I grew up still believe in them. And unfortunately, I do too. It’s not just the pirates, the creatures of the night and sea...they are real. I haven’t seen a mermaid yet, but when I was younger my grandfather, who was a sailor, would tell me stories about the big sea and its mermaids, sirens. Mermaids, who were kind and guided him...sirens, who were bloodthirsty creatures who guided him towards his death. One day, when I was ten years old, my grandfather didn’t come home. Some say it was the sirens who killed him, others say that the pirates attacked him and took him as a prisoner. But growing up as the daughter of the major, with a sailor grandfather, my hopes still rely on the fact that he found that much-desired chest of gold he always told me about and decided to settle on a quiet island, with his mermaid friends.
Our town is called Shell, and it has two origins. Elders say that before humans lived in this place, this was the territory of all kinds of mermaids, their sanctuary. And those who still refuse to believe in ‘fairytales’, as they call it, say that the town got its name because of the influx of shells the sea brings to the shore. It is true, if you go on the Vest side of the beach, you risk of getting cut by the many shells that lay untouched on the sand. But that’s also one of the things we are famous for, rich people who wish for the finest jewelry or people who would like to gift something elegant to a significant other, travel to our town to buy these shells, handmade by the people of the town...that including me.
The streets of the town were buzzing with people running up and down, getting ready for tonight’s summer festival, the Mermaid Night. It’s a celebration our town always holds on the third week of July, a way of showing their gratefulness to the mermaids that left this land behind for us. But truth be told, people are just happy that they can get drunk and holler around the streets without getting sanctioned and probably hook up with others.
I sighed as I stared out the window of the shop, the wind blowing gingerly my bangs away.
“Is something bothering you, Miss?” The rusty voice of the old lady resonated in the vacant shop, her fingers working fast as she braided the rope of the bracelet.
“My father” I answered with a sigh, staring at the people longingly “He said I’m not allowed to attend the festival this year--Have you heard anything more absurd than this?”
“Maybe he knows something you don’t” The old lady, Mrs. Han, muttered quietly.
“And what could that be?” I asked with a huff, closing the window and turning around to face Mrs. Han.
“The legend says…” Mrs. Han looked up, a glint in her eyes as she grinned “On every fifteenth year, there will be a white moon...and the white moon is the guide of the pirates, meaning it brings pirates. I’m sure the Major just wishes to protect you from any oncoming danger”
“But if pirates are coming, doesn’t that mean the whole village is in danger?” I asked quickly, standing up from my place and walking closer to her.
“The village is fine, dear. The people are getting older and older, we aren’t in danger but you and your friends--I can’t say the same” My eyebrows furrowed as I stared at Mrs. Han’s wrinkled face.
“Because we are young? Are we potential targets?” I raised my eyebrows, growing a little amused. Even if I believe in the myths, until I don’t see something I won’t truly believe it. Just like mermaids, maybe they left this land for us, but maybe they are already dead and we just try to carry on with their memories. What if pirates don’t exist anymore? Leeteuk and Donghae, friends from the Sun kingdom, last time they visited, they didn’t bring any bad news...in fact, I haven’t heard of pirates ever since my grandfather disappeared eight years ago.
“It’s a dangerous thing to play around like that, child. You should be careful, the Major didn’t say those to you to scare you off” Mrs. Han’s words were stern as she looked up and I just hummed quietly.
The door opened behind me and two voices I already know too well abruptly stopped talking.
“Y/N!” It was Sooyoung who called out first, her voice loud.
“Hello, Mrs. Han” The always respectful Joohyun bowed as I turned around and smiled at my friends.
“Hi” I waved a little before turning back towards Mrs. Han “Well, I will come and pick up the bracelets tomorrow, Heechul is quite impatient” I muttered, gathering the gown in my hand from the table as Mrs. Han just chuckled.
“Tell the boy I expect more silver from him this time, he might travel here from the Sun kingdom, but I work on these not him” I giggled and kissed Mrs. Han’s cheek before heading for the door with the girls.
“Of course, I’ll make sure myself he pays more” Mrs. Han just snorted before I closed the door, turning towards the girls.
“Why is she always so...cranky?” Sooyoung asked with a grimace, her red dress shorter than usual.
“She can hear you, you know” I rolled my eyes as Joohyun pushed Sooyoung to the front as we started to walk.
“She’s too old to hear us” Sooyoung snapped back as she fixed her eyes on me.
“She’s not” I huffed, crossing my arms in front of my chest, almost letting my white gown fall on the sandy street.
“That’s not important” Joohyun was quick to interfere “Tonight, however, is important. How are you dressing up?”
“Oh, my sister made a dress for me at least two weeks ago” Sooyoung shrugged as she pouted “I don’t really like it but she wants me to wear it, so I guess I have to”
“Your sister is the best tailor in the town, how can you not like it?” I asked, eyebrows furrowed.
“She has a different style compared to mine” Sooyoung shrugged, taking an apple from Yuta’s tavern, who was too busy grinning at Yeri, a girl that is three years younger than us.
“You should pay for that” Joohyun was quick to narrow her eyes at Sooyoung who just chuckled and took a bite of the apple.
“When was Sooyoung ever fair?” I asked in a mocking whisper, making Sooyoung roll her eyes.
“It’s not my fault he was too busy flirting with Yerim” Sooyoung just shrugged, leaving Joohyun sighing.
“I’m not coming” I suddenly forced out the thought that has been bothering me all day.
“What?” Joohyun stopped walking, wide eyes directed at me.
“My father forbid me from doing so” I sighed loudly, watching the ground as I pushed the sand around with my feet.
“Why?” Sooyoung asked, her voice not as concerned as Joohyun’s was.
“Something about pirates and the fifteenth white moon” I just shrugged and Sooyoung hummed as her eyes surveyed the market.
“My mother told me about it too” Joohyun spoke up, placing a comforting hand on my arm “I’m not allowed to stay out later than midnight”
“Of course, can’t have a beautiful maiden like you disappearing” Joohyun stiffened at the masculine voice, her face suddenly turning blank. Sooyoung just chuckled as she took in the sight of Yunho. His hair was tousled, he probably just came back from fishing judging by the smell and bag he carried. His white shirt unbuttoned until you could see his tanned chest and trousers at the end slightly wet.
“What do you want?” Joohyun asked as she sent a glare towards him.
“I hope you didn’t forget about that dance” Yunho only winked at Joohyun.
“I told you, I am not dancing with you, Mr. Jung” Joohyun held her head high even if Yunho towered over the three of us.
“Irene, dear, why won’t you drop your attitude and--”
“It’s Joohyun, and why won’t you leave me alone already?” Joohyun hissed at Yunho who didn’t look that amused anymore.
“Where’s the fun in that?” He still chuckled, but a small glare was sent at my friend.
“I bet it won’t be too much fun when the Major hears about it, huh?” I raised my eyebrows, speaking before anyone else could. Yunho’s eyes snapped at me and Joohyun hissed, glaring at me. It’s known by everyone that Yunho doesn’t like me, he thinks I’m arrogant and hold power over everyone just because I’m the daughter of the Major. But those aren’t true, I’m only like that with people who are rude and won’t stop bothering me. So maybe Yunho is right, I do kinda act rudely towards him.
“Oh look, Miss Kwon found her voice, are you now running to daddy as well?” Yunho rolled his eyes as I just smiled, waving at him.
“I’m sure you know your way to the Major’s house. I’d like to thank you in advance for the delicious fish you brought for us” I winked at Yunho as I took Sooyoung and Joohyun’s arms, pulling them after me.
“You need to stop doing that!” Joohyun hissed as I felt dagger-like glares melting into the back of my head, no surprise, coming from Yunho.
“Why? It’s funny” Sooyoung snickered and Joohyun was quick to slap her back.
“Because it’s dangerous” Joohyun looked at me, pulling her arm free from my grip “You know Yunho is not a very good man”
“And you expect me to stay calm and not worry when he’s after you? Of course I know about his reputation, that’s why I always interfere”
“He could hurt you”
“No, I’m the daughter of the Major and you are not, Miss Bae” I stared at Irene with concern, eyebrows turned into a frown.
“Okay, fine” She sighed, turning away from us.
“What did you do to him though, Miss Bae?” Sooyoung’s voice was mocking as she nudged my shoulder “Tell me your secret spells”
“Do not call me a witch, you know how people react to that, Sooyoung” Joohyun snapped, apparently her good mood gone thanks to Yunho.
“Come on, I was just joking” Sooyoung rolled her eyes offended “But I’m serious though”
“I didn’t do anything” Joohyun shrugged, her eyes lingering on a set of shell necklace. I eyed it too with a smile, I’ll buy it later for her.
“He’s just...Yunho. You know he can’t accept a no and I’m constantly giving him no’s, figures why he’s still after me” Joohyun shrugged and Sooyoung rolled her eyes while I chuckled.
“You say no to every boy”
“Well…” Joohyun’s cheeks suddenly turned red and Sooyoung and I glanced at each other amused. Jaemin was standing in the doorway of the flower shop, waving with a big smile at Joohyun. She waved back, throwing us a glare when Sooyoung and I waved at Jaemin while giggling.
“Why are you like that?” Joohyun hissed as Sooyoung and I just continued to giggle.
“Yunho is going to be livid when he finds out about this” Sooyoung commented with an evil smirk and I mirrored her reaction.
“Oh, really?” Joohyun’s tone turned darker as she looked at us with the same smirk “I guess he won’t take it well when he hears Jaemin is my date for tonight”
“What!” Joohyun just giggled as she hurried away to her mother’s tavern, leaving Sooyoung and I with our mouths hanging open.
“This girl!” Sooyoung just sighed as I started giggling again.
“At least she knows how to get a man...unlike us”
“Speak for yourself” Sooyoung nudged me, eyes narrowed “I always get what I want”
“I almost forgot” I rolled my eyes as she just chuckled and pulled me after her, going to Mrs. Bae’s tavern.
The lights were dim in the room as I rushed underneath the covers, pretending to read when I heard my father’s steps getting louder.
“Y/N?” He asked as he knocked on the door, his deep voice soft.
“Come in” I cleared my throat as I looked at the door.
“You are reading…” He trailed off, looking around the room “I thought you left”
“Left? How?” I asked with a chuckle and dad only shook his head, which was lowered due to his height so that he wouldn’t hit in the doorframe.
“I’m sure I don’t have to say more” He raised his eyebrows and I chuckled as I lowered my book and slightly turned towards him, making sure the blankets still covered my whole body.
“You know I usually listen to you”
“Usually, that’s the problem” I chuckled and dad just sighed as he ran his fingers through his gelled back hair.
“I have to go now, you stay home, okay?” I just hummed as dad sighed again and turned around, closing the door behind him as he walked away. I grinned as I threw the blankets off my body, rushing to my mirror to clip my bangs to the side and place on red lipstick. I patted down my red dress, slipping on my sandals and taking the little jewelry box I quickly opened my window, glad that my room was on the first floor for the first time. Dad left a few minutes ago so it was safe for me to go too.
I know I’m doing wrong by not listening to him but I can take care of myself and it’s not like some legend is actually true. I carefully climbed out the window and closed it back, my sandals sinking into the sand of the beach.
“Hey!” I quietly called out, looking towards the bushes on the left, “Joohyun, Sooyoung”
“Is it okay to come out?” Sooyoung hissed quietly and I giggled as I answered a ‘yes’.
“Finally” Joohyun sighed as she stepped out first, patting down her light blue dress, “I’m never hiding in the bushes again for you”
“Next time this happens, drinks are on you” Sooyoung threw me a glare and I just laughed, walking up to hug them. Sooyoung’s dress was absolutely pretty, the green contrasting her red hair nicely.
“Why were you complaining about your dress?” I huffed as Sooyoung just scoffed, “It’s gorgeous”
“Yeah well...it’s not that bad…” Sooyoung just grimaced as both Joohyun and I snorted, she obviously likes it. She’s just too stubborn to admit it.
“Joohyun” I cutely smiled at Joohyun as I took her hand and placed the jewelry box in it.
“What’s this?” She asked confused, taking the box.
“Open it” I muttered and Joohyun’s eyebrows were furrowed as she opened it. Sooyoung’s mouth fell open as Joohyun gasped, quickly looking back at me.
“No, Y/N, why?” She whined like a little kid and I just shrugged.
“I saw you looking at it in the market”
“I can’t accept this” Joohyun quickly closed the box, trying to hand me back the light pink shell necklace.
“Yes, you can” I sassed back and Sooyoung took the box from Joohyun, opening it.
“This is really pretty” She muttered as she took the necklace out and turned Joohyun around.
“Next time tell me when you are in the mood to buy us something” Sooyoung muttered as she carefully placed the necklace on Joohyun.
“This isn’t fair” Joohyun just whined as she touched the shells tenderly, looking at me, “This costs a fortune, how will I pay it back?”
“Your friendship, both of you, is enough. I don’t need money or anything else, just you two” I smiled at Joohyun and Sooyoung gratefully while Joohyun just looked away while Sooyoung rolled her eyes.
“That’s cute, but now we need to go unless you want to miss out on the fun?”
“Let’s go!” We intertwined our fingers as we quickly took off towards the market.
Obviously, thanks to Sooyoung’s needs, we first stopped at the Inn to drink something. It was loud and more crowded than usual. Men usually populated this place, but now women were roaming around too.
“Something light or…?” Sooyoung raised her eyebrows as we made our way up to the bar.
“Beer” Joohyun was quick to call out as Mr. Kwon looked at us with his eyebrows raised. He’s a middle aged man who’s been working at this Inn ever since it opened.
“Three?” His eyes narrowed at us, trying to recognize us, “Miss Bae, Miss Park and...the Major’s daughter?”
“That’s right” Sooyoung flashed Mr. Kwon a cute smile, waving some cash in her hand. Mr. Kwon got the message and quickly handed us three big glasses of beer. Sooyoung liked her lips as she quickly drank it while I took my time. Joohyun’s eyebrows were furrowed as she carefully gulped down the contents of the glass. I shivered when I finally finished the beer, Sooyoung’s eyebrows raised at us as she already finished it.
“You are supposed to drink it faster” She said with a chuckle as I placed the glass on the high table beside us.
“I’m dizzy” Joohyun muttered as she took a last sip and placed the glass beside mine.
“What?” Sooyoung rolled her eyes as we made our way out “There’s no way you are already dizzy”
“It hits hard” Joohyun muttered as she clung onto my arm.
“This is beer, it can’t hit as hard as Vodka or whatever Mr. Kwon likes to mix” Sooyoung pushed some people away as they were blocking our path.
“Shut up” Joohyun snapped as she sent a little glare at Sooyoung “We are all different”
“Wow, they overdid themselves this year” Sooyoung’s voice was mocking as she stared at the market with a scoff on her lips.
“What did you expect? It’s the one-hundredth year anniversary of this Festival” Joohyun deadpanned, rolling her eyes.
“Well, I don’t think it’s bad” I shrugged while looking around. The market was cleared of the stalls, a decent looking stage placed at the other entrance as the middle was left empty for people to dance. On the stage, a band was singing some slow songs, an older band that had been playing ever since I was born. They are quite old but people here like them a lot, well, mostly elderly people.
“I should find Jaemin” Joohyun muttered as she looked around, just as people started clapping and the band left the stage only for another to come up.
“Good evening!” The young boy spoke loudly into the microphone, he was one of Jaemin’s friends, Jeno.
“We hope we can make you feel good tonight, have lots of fun!” The youngest, Jisung, spoke into his own microphone enthusiastically. The crowd clapped loudly, some even whistled.
“They do look good” Sooyoung’s lips pulled into a grimace as she watched the band pace around before starting to play some upbeat music.
“I’m going now” Joohyun flashed us an excited grin before running off towards Jaemin. Both Sooyoung and I watched with a pout as Joohyun was hugged by Jaemin, and our usually shy Bae Joohyun, actually kissed Jaemin on the lips.
“I didn’t see that coming” Sooyoung’s voice was surprised as I looked at her with my eyes wide.
“Well...at least she’s having fun tonight”
“Yah, if you think I’m not having fun tonight...you are wrong” Sooyoung crossed her arms in front of her chest as she pursed her lips at me.
“Are you leaving me too?” I asked with a sigh, maybe I’ll just go home after that.
“Not yet” Sooyoung flicked her hand, leaning closer to me “We have fun first”
I giggled as Sooyoung took my hand in hers and we went to join the others dancing, the music loud as people laughed and danced together. I grimaced at Sooyoung as she twirled me around, making her laugh. Our fingers intertwined as we danced around, bumping into people, even being able to tickle Joohyun as we passed by her, our dancing wilder than others. Some people glared at us when we just laughed but others joined us and soon we were breathless and retreating to a table that was empty by the stage.
“Oh, this is fun” Sooyoung laughed as she patted her forehead.
“Who needs boys, right?” I winked at her as I gathered my long hair in one hand, fanning myself.
“I do” Sooyoung pursed her lips and I just rolled my eyes, eyes falling on the crowd. I could see Joohyun dancing with Jaemin, a big grin on her lips as Jaemin was smirking at her. Unfortunately, it wasn’t just me who saw them, Yunho, on the other side of them was dancing with a girl, Soojin, but his eyes were on Joohyun and Jaemin his glare hard as it was directed at the happy couple.
“Yunho isn’t too happy” I muttered as Sooyoung searched the crowd, a snort leaving her lips.
“That’s what he deserves, Soojin is just made for him” At that both of us burst out laughing, Soojin being not one of the best girls in the town. After cooling off, Sooyoung waved at a bartender from the Inn and asked for water as we continued to sit at the table, wanting to rest just a little more.
As I looked around, my eyes lingered on the entrance to the market, a strange feeling enveloping me. I can’t be spotted by my father or Mrs. Han or else I’ll get in trouble. Just as I was about to look away, nine men came walking towards the market.
“Sooyoung” I called out, reaching for her arm to get her attention.
“What” She snapped as she ignored the boy that tried flirting with her “I was in the middle of some--oh”
“Exactly” My eyebrows furrowed as my eyes took in the figures of the nine men “Who are those?”
“I have no idea…” Sooyoung chuckled, a smirk forming on her lips “But they definitely live up to the image of a good man”
“They seem dangerous” I muttered as my eyes were drawn to the tallest one, his black hair curly as it fell messily on his tanned forehead. They all looked tanned, too tanned. My eyebrows furrowed as I let my eyes rest on them for longer, observing how they were dressed. Their pants were a dark green, form-fitting as they were tucked into black boots and they all wore white shirts, some tucked some not, their tanned chests on display.
“I don’t know about you” Sooyoung was on her feet, dusting her green dress of “But I really like what I see”
“Sooyoung” I finally averted my eyes from them, catching her hand when she went to move away, “We don’t know who they are. They could be dangerous people”
“And what if they are from the Sun Kingdom?” She raised her eyebrows.
“But we don’t know” I insisted and Sooyoung only rolled her eyes, shrugging my grip off her hand.
“And I will get to know them, unlike you” She shrugged as she walked away with a small wave, heading to the Inn, where these nine mysterious men disappeared to. I sighed watching as Sooyoung had a bounce in her step, greeting a few people. Now I really am alone, should I head home? But as that crossed my mind, suddenly someone appeared in front of me. I looked up to see Yeri smiling down at me.
“Did your friends ditch you?” She asked.
“Oh...I guess they did” I chuckled, scooting over to let her sit down.
“Well, Seulgi and Wendy unnie left me alone” Yeri sighed as she looked at me “And I saw you sitting here so I thought I’d come up and speak to you”
“Thanks, Yeri” I patted her shoulder, making her smile widely back, “Do you not have a date?”
“Oh...well, I kinda did” She played with her blonde hair, biting her lip “But I guess I was ditched”
“By whom?” My eyebrows furrowed as Yeri just sighed.
“Yuta” She muttered and I snorted loudly. Yeri’s head whipped in my direction, eyebrows raised.
“Yuta is a charmer, you should have known better. He targets young girls, don’t fall for his flirting anymore, okay?”
“I realized that too” Yeri just pouted, voice quiet.
“Well, since we both are dateless...let’s go and dance!” I exclaimed, pulling Yeri up with me. She giggled as she followed after me, waving at Jisung and Chenle when I dragged her to the front of the stage.
“Why are you dateless?” She raised her voice, swaying to the music.
“Because my father forbid me from coming”
“Why?” Yeri asked surprised, giggling when I twirled her around.
“White moon, usual superstitions” I just rolled my eyes and Yeri giggled again, bumping her hip into mine. We both giggled as we made eye contact and wiggled our butts to the rhythm.
“Y/N” She spoke up as we connected our palms, dancing in circles “Did you see those men that came?”
“I did, don’t speak to them” I warned her, changing places with a jump “They can be dangerous”
“What if they are pirates?” She bit her lip in excitement as I tensed a little, looking around quickly.
“They disappeared eight years ago” I answered, holding her hand in one hand as we got away from the stage, dancing more in the center of the market.
“But my brother says that there was a crew sailing around the Moon Kingdom and rumors say they are ruthless and powerful. You know my brother wouldn’t lie about something like that” Yeri’s eyebrows were furrowed as I hummed, twirling around as she pushed me around. From too many spins, I became disoriented and ended up tripping over my feet and sent Yeri back, making her giggle. She almost fell on her butt but she seemed like she wasn’t bothered by it as some hands steadied her by the waist. My eyes shoot up at the face of the person, only to make me tense when I realized it was the tallest of the nine mysterious man.
“Tricky these dances are, aren’t they?” His deep voice rumbled over the loud music, making me quite surprised that someone like him could have such deep voice. From closer up, his eyes were too big and lips plump, his ears big almost as if he was a Fairy.
“Good enough if they sent me in the arms of a man like you” Yeri was quick to answer and my jaw almost dropped open upon her words. The man’s lips quirked up in amusement as he pushed her slightly away, to let her stand on her own feet.
“Would you mind dancing with me then?” But before Yeri could answer, I gripped her arm and pulled her behind me. Yeri remained silent as I narrowed my eyes at the taller man in front of us.
“She’s not up for a dance with strangers, sorry” I said, voice steady and stern as the man’s eyebrows shoot up.
“And are you her mother to tell her what she can and can’t do?” The man was quick to fire back and I raised my eyebrows at him.
“And who are you to ask such question from a young girl? Dancing? Seriously?” That seemed to shut the man up as he glanced at Yeri once again, his eyes racking over the little body that was still visible from behind me. He seemed like he realized how young Yeri looked and lowered his head a little, almost like in a bow.
“My apologies Miss, I did not realize how...young she looked…” His tone was sarcastic, dripping with teasing and I just smiled at him, obviously not affected by his words.
“Yerim, go find your friends” I muttered to the younger girl as she nodded and patted my shoulder before running off.
“Seems like you don’t have a partner to dance with anymore” I clasped my hands together in front of me as I smiled up at the tall man, “What a pity...”
“That’s truly a pity” He rubbed his jaw as if he was thinking but then a dangerous glint appeared in his eyes “And since you are the cause of a potential dance partner leaving me...how about you dance with me?”
I chuckled loudly, raising my eyebrows at him, “I don’t trust strangers”
“In that case...I’m Chanyeol” He extended his hand and I glanced at it but didn’t shake it, “Come on, we aren’t strangers anymore”
“Fair enough, I’m Y/N” I gave him my name as well and a smirk appeared on Chanyeol’s lips.
“So...you owe me a dance, Y/N” He muttered, stepping closer. I flashed him a confident smile, maybe I can get some information out of him.
“One dance” I pointed a finger at him and Chanyeol just nodded his head, extending his hand for me to take. Walking us back to the dancing people, Chanyeol’s big hands landed on my waist as I grabbed his elbows. The beat of the music slowly turned slower and slower, until people were swaying to the beat in partners.
“This place seems lovely” Chanyeol spoke up as he lead us to the beat of the music.
“It is” I nodded, looking up into his eyes “Where do you come from?”
For a little moment, his eyes narrowed into slits, but as fast as they came they were gone. A big smile spread on his pink lips, eyes glinting in the lights of the market.
“From the sea” I cocked an eyebrow, lips pulling into an amused grin.
“What a surprise, I would have never guessed” At my tone Chanyeol laughed quietly, but I waited for a real answer.
“Me and my comrades are from the Seven Seas Kingdom” My eyes widened a little bit as Chanyeol hummed along the music, bringing me a little closer to him. The Seven Seas Kingdom is up in the far North, those who travelled there say that people are ruthless and don’t like new comers. The waters are always harsh there, the weather a lot colder than here, in the South.
“Then what are you doing here?” I asked, eyebrows now furrowed as I watched Chanyeol’s lips twitch.
“We are...explorers” That didn’t sound too convincing as he said it, his eyes narrowed when he probably saw I didn’t believe him entirely.
“We wanted to see new places, meet new people. This is my favorite so far” I smiled at him, growing a little stiff when he leaned down.
“And the girls here…” He trailed off with a chuckle, a smirk settling on his lips “are quite beautiful, those people who said so sure didn’t lie”
I snorted, detaching myself from Chanyeol as the song ended and Jeno said his goodbyes before a girl band would take over their place.
“I bet those people had some great experiences here” Chanyeol just smirked as I looked past him to see Sooyoung with a man that arrived with Chanyeol. His light brown hair was pushed back, his jaw sharp as his head hovered dangerously close to Sooyoung’s. My eyebrows furrowed as I watched them dance, not happy to see Sooyoung so careless.
“Ah, do you know her perhaps?” Chanyeol was quick to see the change in my face as he turned around, eyes on Sooyoung and his comrade.
“She’s my friend” I answered, looking back at Chanyeol to see him nodding at the man who was smirking. I really don’t like this.
“He’s Baekhyun, a comrade of mine” Chanyeol looked back at me, his features holding amusement “Don’t worry, he’s a good guy. I’m sure your friend will enjoy her time with him...”
“Yeah, I bet she will” I muttered rather unhappily as the town clock gonged loudly, alerting us that it was midnight. Since I promised my father I wouldn’t come, but I still did, the most I could do was at least go back by midnight.
“Well, if you are looking for fun I suggest you find someone else” I smiled at Chanyeol as he raised his eyebrows.
“I’m leaving...but you can search for a girl called Soojin, she’s quite fun to hang out with...at least that’s what I heard from men around town” I winked at Chanyeol and before he could say a word, I turned around and left the place, hurrying home hoping that father didn’t arrive before me.

Usually, on a Sunday morning, the town is quiet, everyone enjoying their time with their families. But the loud noises outside steered me awake, eyebrows furrowing as I sat up in my bed, rubbing my eyes. The Major’s house wasn’t far from the market but you still had to walk down the beach or go through the little street to get there. There was some sort of commotion happening outside that I didn’t understand as I got out of bed, opening my door.
“Father!” I called, walking around the house “Are you home?”
There was no response as I knocked on his study door so I pushed the door open, indeed finding it empty.
“Father--” My sentence got cut off by the shrill scream that traveled around the beach and into the house. I froze, heart picking up. I know that scream, I could recognize it anytime.
Throwing the door open, in a haze, I picked up my white gown and threw it over my nightgown as I ran down the beach, barefoot. The wind whipped at my face as my feet sank into the sand, heart beating faster and faster as there was another scream, from the same person. The splashing sounds of the water only edged me on to go faster, the market coming in view as I spotted the people gathered around the stage that was placed for the festival. I ran even faster, lungs burning as I finally got off the beach, feet aching when it made contact with the wood and sand on the ground of the market. I pushed the people out of my way, eyes wide when I could see the people on the stage. A blonde man was holding Sooyoung, holding a knife to her neck while the one who she danced with yesterday night, Baekhyun, was threateningly holding a sword towards Sooyoung’s family. My heart seemed to fall flat when I saw little Yeri, with tears streaming down her cheeks, as she was held by Chanyeol. No, this can’t happen. I flinched back when someone suddenly gripped my hand.
“Y/N” Joohyun’s voice was shaky as she stared at me wide eyed “They--they are pirates”
“What!” I breathed out, still trying to catch my breath.
“They want to take Sooyoung and Yeri” Joohyun continued and I almost choked on air as I looked back towards the stage. It seemed like Sooyoung’s eyes found us as she stared at us, face blank but her eyes held fear. No, this can’t happen, not to them.
“Mother!” Yeri called out when Chanyeol suddenly started dragging her away and my muscles tensed as I knew I had to do something.
“No!” I screamed, pushing past the few people that were in front of me, Joohyun still gripping my arm, “Let them go!”
The people went silent, shocked as they stared at me. The pirates were looking at me amused, but the blonde one looked surprised even. As my eyes darted around, I saw my father’s wide eyes as he was pushing the people out of his way.
“I’m not letting you take them!” I screamed, looking directly into Chanyeol’s eyes as he stared at me with a smirk.
“Oh really?” His deep voice resonated in the market as people covered back, “What are you going to do?”
“Y/N, no” My father’s harsh voice made me jump, wide eyes looking at him “Stop it”
“Y/N, you can’t--”
“I have an offer” Chanyeol’s voice silenced my father as we looked back at him, “You give us your daughter and these two girls can stay”
The market went dead silent as my heart stopped beating. I felt all eyes slowly fall on me and I gulped. By now, Joohyun’s grip felt normal but the way she was squeezing it suddenly made my whole arm go numb.
“Y/N” She whispered, eyes searching for mine.
“No” My father said, head held high as he looked at Chanyeol and the other three pirates, “I will not let you waltz into my town and take away our women. My daughter or not, you can’t take them”
At that, the three pirates started laughing and people started muttering around us.
“Or we can kill you, it’s your choice” Baekhyun said with a shrug and I glared at him hard.
“Let them go” I said again, eyes pleading as I looked back at Chanyeol.
“Come with us then” Chanyeol tilted his head with a grin and I gulped as Joohyun whimpered beside me.
“I’m not letting you take her!” My father shouted as he charged forward and I gasped when suddenly two more people jumped out from the town people, swords pointed at my father.
“One more step and you are dead” A man with big eyes and a killer gaze spoke up. My father stopped abruptly and silence once again settled over the market until Yeri’s brother turned towards me.
“Go” He spoke up, eyes narrowed at me “They want you, go with them!”
Yeri’s eyes were wide as she stared at her brother, unable to speak.
“Yes, they want you not my Sooyoung!” Mrs. Park screamed, pointing a finger at me.
“Very well” Chanyeol smiled and he nodded at Baekhyun and the blonde man who let go of Sooyoung and they both took off, coming towards me. Before my father could react he was held back by a gentle-faced man, hold firm.
“Y/N, no, wait, please--” My father continued calling out as Baekhyun grabbed my arm and urged me forward.
“No.” Joohyun’s grip was iron like as she glared straight in the eyes of the blond haired man, “I’m not letting go of her”
“Then you come too” The blond haired man scoffed as he gripped Joohyun by the arm, trying to pull her off me but she was not letting go. Now that Sooyoung was free, her mother was clutching her to her chest as Sooyoung watched with tears in her eyes.
“Kill me if you want to but I’m not letting go of her” Joohyun’s voice was low and her eyes screamed murder.
“What about you come with us then?” Chanyeol suddenly proposed as he roughly pushed Yeri away from him, who stumbled a little before running to her brother.
“I said, let her go” She hissed as she gripped the blond haired man’s arm tightly, the man had a cheshire grin on his face.
“Sorry, but I can’t do that, Miss” He almost looked apologetic as he flashed Joohyun a look before hauling her up by the waist, her grip instantly disappearing from my arm.
“No, let me go!” Joohyun screamed as she started kicking around, Baekhyun suddenly picked up his pace as he dragged me off. I couldn’t do anything but stumble after them, not if I wanted the town and my friends safe. Joohyun’s cries were loud as she screamed after us, probably putting up a fight with the pirate. I caught Sooyoung’s regretful eyes before I was fully dragged out of the market and my father’s tearful eyes. It was okay, I saved people. So after all, pirates were really real. That should have been a shock but I was expecting it in some ways, it was too good to be true, as some would say.
Baekhyun’s grip on my arm was still harsh but he wasn’t dragging me after him anymore, rather walking beside me, whistling quietly as Chanyeol led the way. The other pirates were behind us and as we neared the beach, the blond man ran up to us, cheek a little red and forearms marked with red scratch marks.
“That friend of yours is quite feisty” He chuckled as he fell in step with Baekhyun and me, chest falling and rising quickly. I refused to acknowledge him but I couldn’t fight off the little grin that appeared on my lips, serves him right for touching Joohyun.
“May I get her name?” His question was polite, a charming smile on his lips. I scoffed but still didn’t spear him a glance, my eyes glaring daggers into Chanyeol’s broad back.
“I wouldn’t mind having fun with her when we return The blond haired man muttered and that ticked a nerve as I flinched away from Baekhyun, jumping to the blonde haired man’s collar.
“Don’t even dream about it. You have me, leave her alone” I hissed as the others eyed us amused, Chanyeol with a scowl on his face.
“All are women like you in this town?” Baekhyun only laughed at the question, pulling me off the blonde haired man quite roughly.
“I guess yes, you have no idea how hard it was to get Sooyoung to finally shut up last night” At that the boys cackled and I looked at Baekhyun, my glare directed at him.
“You don’t scare me” He chuckled, looking down at me “I’ve dealt with scarier things, and I know how to shut you up”
I felt like gagging at his wink but got distracted by the huge ship in front of us. How did we not see this? Was it here all the time? When did they arrive? I wish I did listen to father and didn’t go to the festival last night.
“We have our ways” The big eyed man spoke up behind me, examining my face as if he read my thoughts, “We hid the ship, we aren’t stupid”
“Anyone with two eyes would see such huge ship” I muttered, biting my lower lip when I was getting dragged into the water in order to reach the ship.
“Let’s call it…” A weird grin stretched on the same man’s lips “Magick”
“As if” I scoffed but the man just remained with the same grin, making me feel uneasy. The water reached my waist by the time we reached the ship and I already regretted wearing such a nice gown. The salt water probably ruined it, not like I could wear it anymore, who knows what will happen to me now. I’ve heard enough horrible stories about women who are taken by pirates.
Chanyeol was the first one to climb up the ladder, easily jumping on the ship. I was nudged forward and I almost fell face first into the water. I turned around to glare at Baekhyun but he wasn’t even looking at me.
“We haven’t got all day” He shrugged, pursing his lips “Go on, hurry, little princess”
“Don’t call me that!” I snapped at him, angrily gripping the ladder and hauling myself out of the water, “Try to peek and you are dead”
The men bellow hollered in laughter as I scoffed, eyes set into a glare as I climbed the poorly bid stairs of the rope. It was hard to climb it, it was cutting my feet and the wet dress was another weight on my body. Great choice to wear all white, Y/N, really amazing I must congratulate myself.
To my relief, there was a hand extended for me when I reached the top and I grabbed it tightly, jumping on the other side of the railing. I was stunned when I looked up, the youthful face handsome and sharp.
“Come” He muttered lowly, voice not too deep as his grip was gentle but firm.
“Where are you taking me?” I asked, panic rising in my voice as the boy sighed.
“To your room”
“My-my room?” I asked wide eyed, looking at the boy’s face. He seemed serious, not giving much away.
“Captain Park said so” He just shrugged as we descended the desk that led underneath the deck.
“Captain Park” I scoffed, finding it amusing. It sounded amusing. He’s just an asshole, not worth the respect.
“I suggest you don’t anger him, he’s not pleasant when he loses his temper” The boy commented casually, opening a black door. The room was definitely not big, far from my room back at the Major’s house. There was a bed in the left corner, just enough to fit a single person. A little closet on the opposite and a desk on the right side with a fallen chair. The light was dangling from the ceiling, and I haven’t seen something like that before.
“It’s not that horrible, just listen to the captain” The boy said as he gently pushed me inside the room, “I’m Sehun, by the way”
“Okay” I muttered, eyeing the waiting boy. He had his eyebrows raised, waiting for something.
“Y/N” I muttered, realizing he wanted to know my name. For the first time he smiled, he looked even younger, before he turned around and left me alone, closing the door behind him. I sighed and went to sit on the bed, not bothering to raise the chair back to its place. Curse this whole day.
I was left alone for a short time before I heard loud voices above me and I figured it was the boys from the deck. The ship suddenly jolted and my heart clenched, we are taking off. This really is happening, they really are taking me away from my home, my family and my friends. The door opened and I couldn’t help it but glare at the man standing in the doorway.
“I hope you like your room” He grinned, stepping inside uninvited. I glared more at him, murdering him in my mind. It’s all his fault I’m here right now. If he didn’t have to show his masculinity back in town, I could still be at home, but no, he needs to show off.
“Did you forget how to speak, sweetheart?” He asked with a chuckle when I scoffed, still glaring at him.
“You wish I did, and don’t call me sweetheart” I snapped at the pirate.
“I guess you are quite shocked” Chanyeol smirked, only now did I see he had some clothes in his hands.
“Shocked? Not really. Angry? Very much” I flashed him a sweet smile, standing up when he started coming closer towards me.
“Why so snappy? You were nicer yesterday night” Chanyeol pouted fakely and I rolled my eyes, standing with my back straight.
“Yesterday night I thought I was speaking to a man, not a pirate”
“You make it sound like we aren’t human, sweetheart” My jaw clenched at the usage of the nickname as I crossed my arms in front of my chest.
“Are you though?” I raised my eyebrows, gaining Chanyeol’s attention as he was looking around the room before, “If you say you are human, why do you steal, rob towns and kill people? Why did you take me away? I tell you why, for your own sick entertainment. You are just a bunch of assholes who grew up in a bad family and now have to show their superiority to others by such acts? You know what Chanyeol? You got yourself the wrong girl if you think I will obey you or anyone on this ship. Filthy pirates”
“Watch your language” Chanyeol’s deep voice raised an octave as he glared at me, “I won’t let someone like you treat me without respect. A little princess who was raised in wealth and luxury? You have no idea what’s waiting for you”
“Really? What makes you think I’m not going to kill myself the second you leave this room?” I challenged Chanyeol, knowing well damn it was wrong. I shouldn’t test my limits.
“If you want that town to live, you won’t, trust me” He chuckled, standing too close to me for my liking.
“Don’t expect me to respect you, not after what you did, you are just a filthy pirate who probably has some daddy or mommy issues and doesn’t know how to--”
“You will--” Chanyeol’s big palm gripped my neck harshly, cutting my words off “listen to me and obey me. I won’t be treated without respect. You have one week to prove yourself to be useful before I send you out on the dark market or feed you to the sharks. If you know what’s best for you, you will listen to me”
I didn’t want to show it, but I knew the second Chanyeol smirked that the fear I felt was obvious in my eyes. He pushed me away, making me fall on the bed as he strode towards the door, head held high.
“And you won’t be wearing those princess clothes anymore” He chuckled mockingly and my jaw clenched as he slammed the door closed after him.
“I’m not a princess!” I screamed at the top of my lungs, falling in the bed limply, closing my eyes when I suddenly felt them fill with tears. No, I can’t go to the dark market or die, I need to go back to my father and friends. I couldn’t help it but curl up in a ball and let the tears fall as sleep quickly took over me.
~~~
The heavy knocks on my door woke me up from my deep slumber, eyebrows furrowing when I sat up. At first, I felt confused as to why was I slightly swaying but soon realized I was on the ship with those pirates.
“The captain wants you on deck in ten minutes, I suggest you hurry, princess” Baekhyun’s irritating voice made me furrow my eyebrows as I groaned loudly.
“I’m not a princess!” I shouted again for everyone to hear, jumping out of bed. I kept huffing as I paced up and down in the room, not wanting the pirates to see me in my nightgown, it’s quite see-through. What about the clothes Chanyeol brought in yesterday? I suppose they are for me to wear since they don’t have any female clothes. I sighed as I eyed them, thankfully they seemed clean, and quickly got myself dressed. I pulled my hair in a high ponytail, tying it with a rope I always keep on my wrist, just in case. The clothes weren’t too big and they surprisingly fit well, only around the hip area were they a little too baggy. With a grimace, I opened the door and went back the way I was lead here yesterday by Sehun. The hallway was darker than upstairs, so as soon as I stepped into the light my eyes started hurting. I groaned loudly as I walked up to the stairs to the deck, the chatter stopping between the pirates.
“What!” I snapped as nine eyes were on me. I felt a little intimidated but I kept my back straight and head high, that’s how my father taught me, no matter what the situation is, I show who I am.
“She doesn’t look like a princess to me” A man with a weird accent whispered, not quietly, obviously, if I heard him, to the man beside him who had peaceful features. His comrade only chuckled before looking back at me.
“Welcome, princess, I’m glad we didn’t have to drag you up here ourselves” The deep voice beside me was so sudden that it made me jump. The pirates snickered as I glared at all of them.
“That’s probably best for you” I snapped as I looked at Chanyeol “You are not allowed to touch me in any ways”
“Oh really?” Chanyeol asked as a smirk spread on his lips. If he is trying to humiliate me in front of these men, I hope he stops before I kick him in the balls, I’m not afraid to do it.
“That refers to all of you” I snapped, looking back at the other eight boys.
“Captain, why did you take her? She sounds annoying” A man with cat like eyes commented as he was sitting on some wood barrel, sharpening his daggers.
“I didn’t have much of a choice” Chanyeol sighed beside me and my eyes widened.
“You didn’t have much of a choice?” My voice raised as I looked back at him “You could have easily left my town without showing off, you asshole. Wasn’t I clear enough last night? Do you want me to repeat my thoughts about you all? Would you like the boys hear my thoughts as well?”
Chanyeol’s eyes narrowed as he took a step towards me, making me take a step back away from him.
“If you want to live, shut up” I snickered at Chanyeol’s threat, crossing my arms in front of my chest.
“Really, I’m not afraid of you” I grinned at him but Chanyeol’s jaw was gritted as he suddenly grabbed my arm harshly. I was about to protest but he started dragging me harshly after him, I tried fighting my way out of his hold but he was obviously stronger.
“Stop” I hissed at him as he stopped right by the edge of the ship, a piece of the railing missing here. The ship was rocking stronger as the wind picked up, waves also stronger. A wrong move and I’d be sent into the sea underneath us.
“See this?” Chanyeol muttered darkly, his grip tightening only a little bit, “Keep that attitude going and this will be your faith”
I yelped when Chanyeol pushed me just a little forward and I quickly latched onto his arm, afraid that he’d really push me into the water.
“You have no power over me, Y/N, don’t forget that” He looked directly into my eyes before pulling me back harshly from the edge, eyes still on me as I slapped his hand off my arm.
“Did you enjoy the show?” I sneered at the rest of the crew as they were looking at us curiously, my comment made them crack up.
“It wasn’t even that entertaining” Sehun said with a shrug and I glared at him.
“Since you are already here” I flinched away from the hand on my back, glaring hard at the tanned boy, “Your help would be nice around the deck”
“My help? I’d rather root away in my room” I scoffed making the boys laugh.
“Actually, Jongin, that’s an amazing idea” Chanyeol grinned as his eyes lit up, teeth showing. I stared at him a little longer, finding that expression adorable. No, what the hell, we hate Chanyeol, remember?
“I know it is” Jongin grinned as he placed his hand again on my back, making me step away from him.
“So, what are you thinking about?” Chanyeol asked as he eyed Jongin curiously.
“She can be our personal maid!” Jongin exclaimed and my eyes widened as affirmative responses came from the other boys.
“Oh no” I shook my head with an almost hysterical laugh, “I’m not going to clean your mess or be ordered around by you. You did it yourself before, keep doing it. If not, I’d rather jump into the water by myself”
“She’s funny” The blond haired man from yesterday said with a loud cackle, earning a grin from Baekhyun and an eye roll from the big eyed boy.
“I wouldn’t mind some help though” The cat like eyed man spoke up, putting his dagger finally away as he seemed pleased, “Cleaning up the mess after them can be horrifying”
“Exactly my thoughts” I nodded eagerly, pointing my finger at each pirate, “I’m not going to clean their dirt”
“That hurt, princess” Baekhyun placed a hand against his chest “We aren’t that filthy”
“Yes, you all are just some filthy pira--”
“If you’d like…” The big eyed boy spoke up, voice softer than what I was expecting it to be, “You can help out in the kitchen today and clean up tomorrow”
“My room needs cleaning today” The weird accented guy said with a pout, he actually looked cute.
“Clean it yourself” I scoffed, crossing my arms in front of my chest.
“Here” I jumped at the loud sound when the blond haired man and Chanyeol dropped different cleaning items in front of me, “You can start right now”
Chanyeol’s grin was the most annoying one, making me fum with anger. I huffed as I picked up a cleaning rug and stormed off, knowing I didn’t have much of a choice but to clean the ship. Screw these pirates.
Was I right to call them filthy? Oh yes, I was very right. I wonder if these boys even know what washing a cloth is? Except like three people, their clothes smelled horrible and I was forced, by my own brain this time, to wash their clothes as best as I could with the salty water and some soap I found in the ‘dungeons’. It was just actually the storage room underneath all the other rooms, basically the bottom of the ship.
After washing their clothes and proudly hanging them up on a rope on deck, I finished cleaning their rooms, actually happy they didn’t posses many things. But the dust was horrible in one room and I didn’t even want to find out whose it was. By dinner time I was spent as I usually don’t do this at home, we had a house maid who did this job. Sometimes I would help her, but my father wasn’t too fond of the idea. I was forced to not wear the little vest as the burning sun was making me sweat like crazy on deck. Yes, I even had to clean the deck. When I finally finished cleaning, the big eyes man, who’s name is Kyungsoo, approached me cautiously.
“I don’t bite, you know” I muttered, rolling my eyes as I tapped away the sweat on my forehead with some mop I found in my room.
“I take your threats seriously, I still need my private parts, you know” I couldn’t fight back the little smile as I looked at the boy.
“Dinner is ready, you should come and eat with us” The boy continued to watch me as I stood up and rolled down the sleeves of the white shirt.
“Are you the cook or something?” I asked Kyungsoo as we made our way down, heading for the kitchen.
“I can cook too, to their luck otherwise they’d die of hunger” I couldn’t help it but chuckle, imagining Baekhyun whining for food like a little kid. It’s my first day on this ship, what am I doing going around imagining things? No, get yourself together, Y/N. You are the daughter of the Major and you need to get back to Shell somehow.
“That would be nice to watch” I muttered barely but Kyungsoo still heard it and chuckled, opening the door for me. I offered him a thankful smile as the others stopped whatever they were doing, eyes set on us.
“Wow, she smiled” Sehun was the first to break the silence, his face just as blank as his voice. I rolled my eyes and went to sit beside Minseok, the cat like eyed man, rather than Jongdae, blond haired man, who had a dangerous grin on his lips. Kyungsoo occupied the seat beside Jongdae and the boys suddenly went back to eating, digging into their food. Even though Baekhyun was sitting across from me, his loud chewing was getting on my nerves as he kept grinning at what Yixing, the weird accented guy, was telling him. Junmyeon, kind faced guy, kept sighing beside me as he slowly ate his food. My mouth pulled into a grimace when Kyungsoo placed some rice and fish on my plate.
“Oh, princess doesn’t like the food?” Chanyeol mocked from the head of the table. I rolled my eyes and started eating the rice, eyeing the fish.
“You can eat it, I made sure it’s well cooked” Kyungsoo eyed me as I hesitantly teared the fish apart to take out the little bones.
“I don’t exactly like fish” I muttered and Minseok eyed me as him, Junmyeon, Yixing and Kyungsoo were the only ones eating like civilized people.
“Aren’t you from a shore town?” Minseok asked, eyebrows furrowed.
“That has nothing to do with me liking or not fish, it’s not my favorite dish” I shrugged as I slowly chewed the food.
“Well, princess, you’ll have to get used to it...or at least for this week” Chanyeol smirked when I glared at him.
“One week?” Sehun asked curiously, stealing some pepper from Jongin’s plate when he was busy staring at Chanyeol.
“If she’s not useful to us, we are sending her to the dark market. Our next stop is in the Vest Kingdom, so we shouldn’t worry” Chanyeol spoke with authority and the boys remained quiet as he continued, “I’m sure Blackpink wouldn’t mind an addition to the team”
“Jennie and Jisoo would be thrilled to hear” Baekhyun said with a smirk, mouth full of food. I glared at him for not being able to eat like a normal person.
“Who’s Blackpink?” I finally voiced my thoughts, looking around, eyes landing on Junmyeon who sighed once again.
“An organization of girls, a cult, anything you want to call it...they take girls and teach them different things...if they are good fighters, they add them to the Vest Army under Rose’s division, sometimes Lisa gets new girls for entertainment purposes or...Jennie and Jisoo get new girls either for prostitution or different criminal activities” Junmyeon’s explanation made me gulp hard as the boys eyes were on me.
“I don’t...want to meet these girls” I muttered, looking down at my food as I continued to eat.
“Then be a good girl” I could practically hear the smirk in Chanyeol’s voice but for once I decided to gulp down my remark with my food, it won’t do anything good. I don’t want to get to the hands of Blackpink...especially not to Jennie and Jisoo’s hands.
After dinner, I was nice enough to offer and wash the dishes as the boys left me behind, apparently going back to the deck, cards and bottles in their hands. They were definitely not up to something good. My hands felt numb by the time I finally finished washing the dishes. Drying my hands on my brown pants, I left the kitchen, heading to my room when I heard someone groaning from the top of the stairs. Curiosity getting the best of me, I took a peek only to see Kyungsoo glaring at the steps, leaning against the railing. I was just about to leave when he called my name.
“Y/N?”
“Yes?” He sounded unsure, almost confused.
“Could you help me?” My eyebrows shoot up but I climbed the stairs and joined Kyungsoo.
“What happened?” I asked curiously, realizing he was drunk as his clothes smelled of some strong liquor.
“Oh, we went to play cards and I drank too much” He chuckled, his eyes not exactly on me “Now I’m drunk and can’t descend the stairs...could you help me out a little?”
I sighed but took Kyungsoo’s arm and placed it around my neck, letting him lean against my body.
“I feel sick” He muttered and I almost cringed away, afraid that he’d throw up.
“Why did you drink then?” I asked instead, taking one step at a time, careful to not fall.
“We need to loosen up from time to time” He just shrugged and I huffed as we got to the bottom of the stairs.
“Which is your room?” I asked as I walked down the corridor with Kyungsoo.
“The one beside the kitchen” He muttered, swaying a little, almost knocking us over. I chuckled, looking at him.
“The cook is closest to the kitchen, the boys would die without you here” I muttered and it made Kyungsoo laugh a little too loudly.
“They are good boys, you know” He hiccuped as we arrived to his room, “Especially Chanyeol, just give them time. Chanyeol is pretending to be all this big and bad boy, but he’s actually softer than any of us--”
Kyungsoo’s eyebrows furrowed as I helped him sit on the bed, glad that his weight was finally off me, “Well, maybe he’s not softer than Jongin, but he’s nice, you know”
“He didn’t leave the best impression” I muttered as I headed to his closet, opening it.
“I’m surprised my clothes fit you that well” Kyungsoo muttered as he eyed me taking out his clothes.
“Your clothes?” I asked surprised, turning towards him.
“Yeah, mine” He chuckled and I grinned a little as I went back to him.
“Can I help you change, you smell awful” I grimaced a little and Kyungsoo hummed.
“So it was me” I chuckled a little as he struggled out of his shirt.
“I’m sure the others are just as smelly as you are and I’m also sure I’m not helping them as well” Kyungsoo laughed drunkenly and held his hands up like a little boy as I fidgeted with the clean shirt.
“You know…” Kyungsoo trailed off for a second as he looked at me seriously with his big glinting eyes, “I’m surprised how much I like you, it’s only the second day of having you here”
“Well, at least I know someone likes me genuinely” I muttered as I buttoned Kyungsoo’s shirt rather clumsily as the waves were harsher tonight and rocked the ship more.
“I guess you don’t like us…” Kyungsoo trailed off, again, watching the ceiling.
“I do like you, it’s just--” I sighed as Kyungsoo and I locked eyes, “You stole me away from my life. I didn’t want this, your Captain dragged me into this mess. I want to go back to my father and my friends. I miss them so much and it’s been only two days, Kyungsoo. I want to escape from this nightmare. Every day I wake up I just hope it was another bad dream, but then Baekhyun whistles ‘princess’ outside my door and I know I’m in the same hell”
Kyungsoo chuckled at my last words and sighed as he gripped my arm, carefully laying down as I helped him.
“I understand how you feel, because I was once like you” He muttered so quietly I almost didn’t hear him, “My life, our lives, weren’t like this always. There’s horrible things out there in the world and we stumbled upon one of them”
“What do you mean?” I asked softly, my eyebrows furrowed in confusion as Kyungsoo pulled me to sit down on his bed, hand still holding onto my arm.
“We were once all carefree kids, running around the markets in our Kingdom and causing mischief” He smiled fondly at the memory, eyes closing, “But one day...Chanyeol stumbled upon something dangerous and that cursed us…”
I stared at Kyungsoo’s peaceful face as I let his words replay in my head. Chanyeol stumbled upon something dangerous and that cursed them? That made no sense. I didn’t see Kyungsoo as the one to believe in fairytales. Was he so drunk that his mind made up stories? They do say after all...drunk men tell no lies. My head swirled with confusion that night as I left Kyungsoo’s room and headed to mine to rest. Were they really cursed? But how did that happen?
~~~
Next day I was up before the sun was. I decided Kyungsoo deserved a good breakfast after the night he had. He most definitely will be hangover. It leaves me confused as to how the swinging of the ship doesn’t make them feel sick as every morning I wake up I feel dizzy and lightheaded.
Thankfully, I knew my way to the kitchen and didn’t cause any hubbub, however, I did stumble into a chair placed in front of Baekhyun’s room, which left me confused. Why was the chair there in the first place? It wasn’t an easy task finding every ingredient for the seaweed soup I planned on cooking which Mrs. Han taught me after my father had a huge hungover and couldn’t stand up from his bed for a whole day. There was no pepper but paprika would work as well. I hummed quietly to myself as I added all ingredients into the cauldron, careful with the fire of the stove. A very weird stove that I had to stare at for at least ten minutes before I figured how it worked...at least they have a stove. I also figured if Kyungsoo drank so much the other boys must have done the same, and as much as I don’t like them, I don’t wish to hear all day some men whining about how bad they are feeling or worse...having them throw up which I would have to clean afterwards, disgusting. I moved around quietly as I looked for a cup and spoon that I could take to Kyungsoo.
Today I felt rather creative so before leaving my room I decided I would freshen up a bit my outfit. The pants were too warm as I spent my days out in the blazing sun on deck and decided that I could just shorten them, like Sooyoung’s sister taught me once. Just the thought of Sooyoung brought tears to my eyes but I blinked them away knowing she was safe, and focused rather on the little happiness I felt after successfully designing these new pants for myself. I hope Kyungsoo wouldn’t mind seeing as I ripped one of his pants.
I jumped as someone cleared their throat behind me, slamming the cup down against the table beside me.
“What are you doing?” The deep voice was hoarse and I turned around with a glare.
“Cooking, obviously” I muttered as I took in Chanyeol’s disheveled form. He looked horrible, honestly. The only thing that sat rightly on him were his pants. His blue shirt was wrinkled and all buttons undone and black curly hair sticking out in every possible direction while his face looked swelled.
“Are you planning on poisoning us?” He chuckled as he shuffled inside the kitchen, eyebrows furrowed as he held onto his head.
“I wish I was doing just that...but no” I answered Chanyeol as I watched him amused. He seemed disoriented as he opened cupboards.
“What are you searching for?” I asked curiously as I watched him hiss as he closed his eyes. Just how strong was the liquor they drank last night?
“Stop asking questions or else my brain will blow up” Chanyeol hissed and I chuckled as he drew closer opening and slamming the doors of the cupboards.
“Then I shall gladly continue questioning you” I said with a smirk when Chanyeol sent me a dark glare, making me chuckle. Who would take a man seriously when he looked like that? He stopped in front of me and I tensed as he leaned up and opened the cupboard above me, his chest pressing dangerously close to my face. Bare chest, tanned chest, muscular chest...I hissed at my own thoughts, silently lecturing myself for openly drooling at the enemy.
“Curse Kyungsoo, we’ve got no hangover potion anymore” Chanyeol slammed the cupboard door close with a groan. I grinned as I looked up at him.
“Luckily for you, I have just what you are looking for” Chanyeol’s eyes landed on me as he stared down at me, eyebrows raised.
“And what is that?” He asked mildly interested and I smirked at him as I pushed him away harshly, making him groan as he stumbled backwards.
“My poison is actually a soup for hangovers so...sit down and wait patiently” I pointed the spoon at him as I went and took another cup and walked back to the cauldron. It was boiling, green bubbles raising to the surface, that means it’s all good to serve. Filling half of the cup, I walked to the table and placed the cup and spoon in front of Chanyeol while staring at him expectantly. He stared at the soup in disgust as it continued boiling, the green bubbles continuously raising to the surface.
“I was right, you are trying to poison us” He muttered as he carefully took a spoonful and stared at it.
“Well excuse me, but until you stare at it and contemplate whether it will kill you or not, I shall head to Kyungsoo’s room and feed him the soup” I said with a glare and walked past Chanyeol, ignoring his confused gaze as I knocked on the boy’s door. There was a quiet murmur and I walked inside, closing the door behind me.
“Morning!” I called loudly and cheerfully, watching as Kyungsoo squirmed and pulled the covers over his head. I chuckled and went to sit beside him on the bed.
“You know, as much as seeing you all squirming and whining amuses me, I decided to be nice and not poison you while I cooked this soup” I said quietly as if talking to a child and Kyungsoo peeked out from underneath his covers.
“What soup?” He asked quietly, voice barely audible.
“Seaweed soup, the best one from my Kingdom, an old lady taught me how to make it”
“It must be good then, old ladies always know what they are doing” Kyungsoo muttered as he carefully sat up and took the cup from my hands.
“You are underestimating me, comrade” I glared at him jokingly and a smile appeared on his lips as he smelled the soup. I watched as he started eating it carefully, slowly grinning and grinning wider.
“So it’s good then?” I asked with a grin and Kyungsoo nodded eagerly as I chuckled.
“Its effects come rather quickly so you shouldn’t worry about--” There was a big commotion outside the door as loud whining and footsteps combined together.
“You better go and feed them before they realize we have no more hangover potion and think it’s the end of the world” Kyungsoo said with a chuckle as he nodded towards the door.
I sighed as I glanced at the door, not wanting to leave Kyungsoo’s room, “Fine”
The second I was out in the hall it felt like I was in the market. The boy’s voices blended together, louder and messier than ever before. This was a disaster already. I stood in the doorway to the kitchen and clapped my hands loudly. Everyone in the room groaned loudly as Baekhyun glued his palms to his ears, Yixing following suit.
“If you’d just take a seat and calm down I could actually help you out!” I said loudly, making Jongin whine as he looked at me in pain. Chanyeol remained quiet as he looked at everyone and as he nodded everyone took their places at the table, except for Kyungsoo who was still in his room.
“Very well” I said with a pleased smile and walked to the cups and took eight of them to fill with the soup, I was hungry as well. Handing them the cups and spoons I took a seat opposite Chanyeol and quietly started eating, that is until someone made a gagging sound.
“What the hell is this?” Of course it was Baekhyun who was glaring at his green soup.
“Poison” I said casually and all boys stopped eating as their eyes fell on me. Jongdae spit back the content from inside his mouth into his cup. I remained nonchalant as I kept eating that is until Chanyeol started laughing loudly. My eyes widened and we all looked at him as if he was crazy.
“You good, Captain?” Junmyeon asked softly as he had already begun eating again, having seen that I was eating the same soup.
“You really don’t think she’d poison herself as well?” Chanyeol asked as he looked at the rest of the boys that weren’t eating anymore, “It’s good for your hangover, eat it”
And with that Chanyeol rose from the table as the boys started eating again, eyes finding mine when he was in the doorway. He nodded at me subtly and I looked back down to my soup as he walked away. I guess that was his way of saying ‘thank you’.
~~~
The days passed by quickly and I became more and more nervous as we were drawing closer and closer to the Vest Kingdom. Chanyeol still wasn’t saying if I would stay with them or if they would sell me away. I was really holding onto the hope that seeing as Kyungsoo, Sehun and Jongdae really liked me, Chanyeol would keep me around. But then...Baekhyun doesn’t like me and neither does Chanyeol and seeing as those two are rather close, I will most likely be sold off. Before that happens, however, I have formed a plan in my head. If I am to be sold, I shall act like a weeping princess and beg them to keep me, acting of course because I wouldn’t beg a pirate even if my life was at stake. So then we get to the market in the shore town of the Vest Kingdom and I kneel whoever is with my in the groins and run away, hiding. After they leave I travel to the Queen of the Kingdom and beg her to send me home, our Kingdom’s might not be on good terms, however my father once helped her and she needs to turn back the favour.
I was busy cleaning the Captain’s cabin, which was fairly larger and fuller of objects than the others room. Of course Chanyeol would take the largest room, he was that selfish. I sighed as I dusted off another shelf of books until one book caught my eyes, ‘Curses and how to live with them’. What was a book like that doing here? The others were about traveling, the kingdoms and some myths and fairytales written by famous authors. My eyes narrowed as I took the book and walked back to the big oak desk, abandoning the rag on the chair, as my eyes fell on another book laying beside the outstretched map, ‘Witches, Curses, Countercurses’. What is all this curiosity about curses? Was Chanyeol planning on cursing someone? Perhaps me? Then suddenly Kyungsoo’s drunken words about a curse rang through my brain. Was it true then? Did he really say the truth? It seems like.
“What are you doing?” I slammed the black book against the desk in fright as Chanyeol’s deep voice boomed in the room.
“Cle-cleaning your room” I cursed myself for stammering, but Chanyeol’s gaze was murderous.
“Doesn’t look like it” He snapped as the door behind him slammed shut, making me jump again. Curse you, Y/N.
“Who allowed you inside?” He walked closer and I walked to the other side of the desk to make sure there was distance between us.
“I’m supposed to be cleaning every single room on this ship, remember?” I snapped as I sent a glare at Chanyeol, heart beating faster than before. I’m afraid, but I don’t know why. Being closed inside a room with Chanyeol alone makes my hair stand on edge and heart beat fast. Maybe because he’s the one that basically kidnapped me or maybe because he’s really handsome, however this is the first and last time you hear me saying that, or maybe because he looks like he could kill me with his eyes after he took a look at the book I took interest in.
“I didn’t give you permission, however, to clean this room” His dark eyes watched me intently as he walked closer.
“Yes, but you also didn’t state that I was not allowed inside, so how was I supposed to know?” I raised my eyebrows at him as we kept circling the desk, him trying to close in on me and me trying to put more and more distance between us.
“You were snooping around. I don’t tolerate thieves on my ship” My eyes widened at the accusation. Does that mean he’ll really sell me? I’m not even a thief!
“I’m not a thief!” I exclaimed angrily as I walked faster after Chanyeol tried lunging at me, “Stop running after me, I told you I won’t let you touch me!”
“As if someone will respect your wishes on this ship” Chanyeol sneered and I glared at him fiercely as I took the black book from the desk in my hands, his eyes fixating on it before his glare intensified.
“To keep you updated, Kyungsoo, Sehun, Junmyeon, Yixing, Minseok, Jongin all respect my wish so I don’t see your problem here, Chanyeol” I taunted him with a smirk and Chanyeol scoffed before his glare returned again.
“Put that book down” He demanded, making me look at the black book in my hands. He stopped in his tracks and so did I.
“No” I answered defiantly, glancing at the open window. Chanyeol seemed to pick up on my train of thoughts as his eyes darkened even more.
“Don’t even think about it” He warned, Adam apple bobbing up and down as he gulped. He almost looked...nervous.
“Why does this book matter so much to you?” I pressed on, knowing my luck was running thin.
“Put it down on the desk and I will let you go unharmed” Chanyeol’s voice sounded nice for the first time, but I didn’t like the threat.
I smirked as I took a small step towards the open window, the waves crashing loudly against the side of the ship, “What if I throw it out the window? The ocean will swallow your book and then--nothing will remain of it. Like you did with me. You took me away from everything I held dear and threatened to sell me off”
“I will take you back home, but put that book down, now” Chanyeol’s lips pulled into a tight smile and I chuckled as my eyes widened, amused that for once I had the upper hand while interacting with him.
“I don’t believe you” I said the words slowly, looking down at the book with a deep fake frown, “And I don’t like this book, we’d be only even if I made it disappear, don’t you think, Chanyeol?”
His eyes stayed fixed on my hand and I smirked as the silence dragged on, neither of us making a move. The desk was still between us. What’s my plan though? I throw the book out the window and run from his room? I can’t hide in my room, I’m on his ship for God’s sake. He’ll throw me off the ship in the best case, better to drown than get sold off to that Blackpink organization. I’d rather die than become a slave. But I want him to hurt like I do, knowing how far away I am from all of my loved ones. My eyes must have shown finality because Chanyeol’s eyes widened as he jumped towards me right as I raised my arm. I was going to throw the book out of the window, it almost left my hand, but I was roughly showed into the bookcase behind me, book flying out of my hands but sadly onto the wooden floor and not out the window. I hissed as the shelves dug into my back, Chanyeol’s big body pressed against me. I flailed my arms, pushing against his chest hard but Chanyeol growled and just held on tighter. I kicked his shin hard, realizing my hands were no use, and Chanyeol yelped loudly as he let go of me, I was finally able to push him away. I turned sharply and went to run for the door but before I could take even three steps hands around my waist whirled me around and I screamed as I was thrown against the desk. I yelped in pain as my hips crashed into the edge of the desk, probably bruising it as well, before I was turned around again, hand around my neck. I was bent backwards, feet barely on the floor and hands gripping the desk tightly as I fought against Chanyeol trying to push me down against the desk fully. Realizing I wasn’t about to give up the fight, he stopped pushing me but his hand remained around my neck, keeping a firm grip. He lay his other hand on the desk behind me, leaning so close our lips were almost touching.
“You are going to pay dearly for that” He spoke quietly, aware that due to our closeness I could hear him very well, but his voice was deadly.
I huffed, maintaining his eye contact even if I was close to shaking, “I didn’t even get to throw it out the window so why are you getting worked up, Chanyeol?”
“Stop saying my name like that” He snapped and I smirked as I raised my eyebrows.
“I don’t like being called princess and yet you still call me that…” I pretended to think for a moment, “What to do, what to do…”
“I know what I’m going to do with you” The dark smirk that stretched on his lips made me gulp, “And I have a feeling you won’t like it--”
“You and your crew are cursed” I blurted out in panic, not wanting to hear the rest of Chanyeol’s words. Chanyeol’s mouth remained opened as he looked at me mildly shocked, hand tightening around my neck.
“How do you know” He growled after collecting himself.
“Kyungsoo told me when you all got drunk” I whispered, my heart pumping fast due to the adrenaline.
“He can’t keep his mouth shut when drunk, the idiot” Chanyeol hissed as he looked past me.
“So it’s true then…” I trailed of gripping his wrist with one hand as his grip was becoming uncomfortable, but Chanyeol didn’t loosen it he just looked back at me with a fire burning in his eyes.
“I decided last night to sell you off tomorrow” Chanyeol’s words felt as if a weight was dropped onto me. My eyes widened and I gripped his wrist firmly now, feeling the panic rising in me again. But I thought he’d keep me after everything I did for him on this ship!
“But--but I did everything you asked and I--”
“You are too annoying and what you did everyone else on this ship can do, therefore you are to no use to us” Chanyeol’s voice held finality as he pulled me upright, back to my feet and let go of me.
“No, you don’t understand! I--I did everything you asked me why would you--the boys like me! I help Kyungsoo a lot and I--Sehun said how much he liked my company and that you feel better having me around! He told me that you enjoy my company, Chanyeol, why would you--”
“All that boy talks is nonsense” Chanyeol scoffed, averting his eyes from mine. I felt the tears in my eyes as I gripped his biceps trying to get him to look at me.
“Chanyeol, please--”
“Get out” His voice was quiet as he didn’t look at me.
I shook his arms as I stared up at him helplessly, “Please, Chanyeol, don’t do--”
“Get out” He repeated his words still refusing to look at me, still standing numb underneath my touch.
“Chanyeol, I--”
“Get out!” He suddenly shouted so loudly that a sob involuntarily escaped my lips. He stepped back and wrenched his arms out of my hold as he walked to his chair, leaving me trembling. I took off towards his door almost numbly as my lips trembled as tears rolled down my cheeks.
“You are the monster they speak about in the fairytales and myths” I muttered lowly before slamming his door shut and running down the corridor and towards my room.
I wanted to die.
“I’ll be back in ten minutes top.” Sam said as he walked off towards the large bookstore.
Dean scoffed, “Yeah… right.”
Sam flipped him off as he jogged across the street as (Y/N) laughed. Dean was leaning against the back of Baby looking down at his phone. Her eyes traveling the length of his body from his broad shoulders down his muscular arms and narrow waist that led to his bowlegs. He was firm but cuddly. Her heart began to thump in her chest.
(Y/N) met the Winchesters five years earlier when they crashed the hunt she was on. First Dean’s cocky attitude annoyed her but the more she got to know him the more she grew fond of him. Then after a particularly bad hunt where she got hurt, she fell for Dean who refused to leave her side until she was better. Ever since then she longed to be with him but knew she was his type.
She looked down at her feet the overwhelming sadness of being lonely hitting her hard. She felt Dean bump his shoulder into hers. Putting a smile on her face she looked up at him. Concern filled his olive eyes as he pursed his lips.
“What’s going on inside that pretty head of yours? You look like you’re going to cry.” he asked the same concern evident in his raspy voice.
Looking up at him the look of love and care staring back at her had her brain pushing the very secret she had held all these years past her lips, “I love you.”
Dean chuckled sliding his arm around her shoulders, “Awe I love ya too sweetheart.”
(Y/N) pushed him slight away, “No Dean, I mean it. I love you. I’m in love with you. I have been since the moment you stayed with me after getting hurt by a demon. I know I’m not your type because I’m chubby and hardly ever resemble anything girly or sexy. I just can’t keep this a secret anymore so I love you.”
She began to walk away from him until he reached out grabbing her elbow, “Hold on you can’t just say that and run away.”
“Come on, tell me you don’t see me in that way. That you love me like the little sister you never wanted. That we’re just friends.” she looked down at her feet tears threatening to slip down her cheeks.
“(Y/N) I wished to hell that I could tell you that. I wish I could say that you’re a little sister to me or that we are just friends, but I can’t.” he said as she looked up at him with wide eyes.
“W-Wh... come again?” she asked.
He chuckled looking down bashfully a hint of red creeping over his cheeks, “The truth is from that very moment that demon stabbed you and I thought we were going to lose you. I knew... I knew that you meant more to me than just a partner or friend. I knew I finally found what I had always dreamed of having. I found my home.”
Now tears were streaming down her cheeks from utter happiness coursing through her heart, “Dean Winchester, I swear to god if you are pranking me right now I will never...”
He cut her off by pressing his lips to hers. His arms slipping around her waist pulling her tightly against his body. Her hands slipping behind his neck and into his soft, sandy brown hair. “(Y/N), I love you too.” he whispered against her lips.
“About damn time you two finally admitted your feelings!” Sam exclaimed from behind them causing them to laugh.
Sam was focused on his computer screen as (Y/N) sighed bored out of her mind, "Seriously Sam, I feel fine. I don't think that witch casted a spell on me."
"(Y/N) you were hit with some kind of pink glowing light after she said an incantation. I want to make 100% sure you are okay." He said looking up at her. His hazel eyes were filled with worry and she laid back on the bed closing her eyes.
Suddenly her heart began to beat faster and a wide smiled came across her lips. She felt like her whole body was buzzing with happiness trying to burst out from her. That is when she watched Dean walked through the door. She rolled onto her belly and sighed blissfully resting her head on her arms.
He seemed to have a glowing pink shimmer surrounding him bringing out his gorgeous olive eyes and sandy brown hair. When he spoke, her whole body clenched wonderfully. "Did you find out what that old hag hit (Y/N) with?" Dean asked glancing over to her as she smiled up at him.
"I think so. It's a powerful enchantment that causes utter happiness around the person she loves. Sounds like it was created to distract people while the witch would rob them blind." Sam explained as she only half listened.
Dean sat next to her as she sat up swinging her legs over the edge of the bed, "Deanie, you're so adorable. I just love your chunky cheeks and this little nose of yours." She said touching her fingertip to the tip of his angular nose.
His eyebrows scrunched together bringing his finger up to touch the tip of his nose as she giggled laying her head on his shoulder. "Sammy, find the cure so we can get her back to normal." Sam nodded as she crossed her arms pouting.
"I like being this way. I feel all kinds of happy when I'm around you. I never show it though because you don't like me like that." She felt like her head was boiling and groaned curling up in a ball.
Dean picked her up cuddling her in his lap and kissed her warm forehead, "Sweetheart, of course I like you. I just want you healthy and safe. Now why don't you lay down for me and try to sleep while we look for a counter spell."
He lifted her with ease and laid her on the bed. That is when she grabbed a hold of his arm, "Lay with me so I can have good dreams while sleeping."
She watched as he looked to Sam who shrugged nodding, "It's alright Dean. Go ahead and I will find the cure."
Feeling Dean's arm slip around your waist and his body pressed against yours was like being in Heaven. As she drifted asleep she heard Dean said to Sam, "I guess I should tell her I love her when she's cure." She smiled happily feeling at ease in his arms.
Those Lips
Summary: (Y/N) thinks back on the day everything changed between her and Dean Winchester. Characters: Dean Winchester, Reader Pairing: Dean x Reader Warnings: Fluff Word Count: 464 GIF Submission By: @dean-winchesters-bacon A/N: As always this is unbeta so all mistakes are mine. Lying in bed next to my best friend and lover I watched as he slept peacefully. His short sandy brown hair was unruly sticking up in every direction. His olive eyes hidden beneath his eyelids moving slightly indicating he was dreaming. His nose and cheeks were dusted with freckles showing up more now since it was summer time. Then my eyes landed on the one part of him that had changed everything between us.
I remembered it like it was yesterday, Dean coming over to my apartment to hang out after a hunt. We were sitting on the couch watching TV and I had my feet resting in his lap. Nothing was out of the ordinary except the fact I was hyper aware of every move he made.
When he would brush against my legs or how his fingers always found their way to my hair twirling it between them. That night, it was the simple act of him drinking a beer that sent my body in overdrive. He would lift the bottle to his full lips tipping it back and letting the golden liquid flow into his mouth.
His lips naturally puckering after the bottle left them and his tongue darting out to capture the few drops left behind on his lips. It was at that moment I let out a strangled breath catching his attention. After mercilessly asking and tickling me I finally confessed my greatest sin to him.
"I want you." Three little words that tumbled out of my mouth. He sat back for a moment as I went to move my feet from his lap.
He grabbed my ankle placing my leg on one side of him and moved over me leaning in close, "Took you long enough to say that too me."
The moment his lips touched mine I knew everything had changed. The way his mouth moved with mine as if we were in this choreographed dance. The way he would take my bottom lip in between his teeth nipping at it. Then the trail of wet kisses down my neck sending chills down my spine and moans of praise from my mouth.
A low chuckle brought me out of my memory as I looked down to see groggy green eyes looking up at me, "You were thinking about them again."
I could not help but giggle, "You caught me. Those damn lips of yours are my greatest weakness. I have no defense against them."
He propped himself up on his elbow a smirk playing on his deadliest weapon against me. "Good." He whispered as his lips went in for the attack.
"I guess there are worse ways to die than death by Winchester lips." She giggled as he rolled over her caging her in kissing her deeply.
