El Sevilla no ha podido pasar del empate frente al Maribor (1-1), pero después de que el Liverpool haya vencido con mucha solvencia al Spartak de Moscú, el equipo español se ha metido en los octavos de final de la Liga de Campeones.

El Sevilla salió con un once repleto de jugadores titulares, al menos desde el planteamiento, sin tener en cuenta que el Liverpool se enfrentaba al Spartak de Moscú en Anfield, por lo que cabía esperar una ayuda del equipo inglés. Quizás por ahí puede explicarse el mal rendimiento del equipo hispalense, que hizo un primer tiempo realmente pobre.

De hecho, en esa primera mitad las ocasiones más claras fueron para el Maribor, más allá del gol. El equipo esloveno se puso por delante en el minuto 8, en una acción en la que el Sevilla estuvo demasiado concesivo. El lateral Milec hizo una gran acción por banda derecha, y le puso la pelota en la cabeza a Tavares, que fusiló a Sergio Rico desde cerca.

Banega lo intentó con un remate lejano en el minuto 27, pero de nuevo fue el Maribor el que encontró buenas situaciones de remate para, incluso, haber ampliado la ventaja. Tavares volvió a tener una buena opción desde muy cerca, que sacó Rico, y justo antes de llegar al descanso, intentó un remate desde muy buena posición, quizás demasiado potente, que se marchó fuera por poco.

En el segundo tiempo seguimos viendo un Sevilla bastante lento, pero la explosividad de Ben Yedder sí generó alguna buena acción de ataque. En el minuto 71 llegó la primera gran opción del Sevilla para empatar el partido, pero Ben Yedder, desde el corazón del área tras recibir una prolongación en el área chica, estrelló su disparo en Handanovic.

El 1-1 llegó en el minuto 72, gracias a Paulo Henrique Ganso, que salió en la segunda parte para revolucionar el ataque del equipo andaluz. El brasileño cazó la pelota en la frontal del área, y se sacó un remate potente que entró, eso sí, después de un terrible fallo de Handanovic, que se tiró realmente mal y la pelota se le coló por debajo de su cuerpo.
