lately i've finally been playing a bunch of the little free games i've had my eye on, and i really enjoyed paranoiac (the remake). so here's a miki

Miki Takamura's Character & Personality

Miki is a kind and considerate young woman. Unfortunately, she's somewhat mentally unstable and suffers from depression. Due to this, Miki comes across as being quite timid and shy. It's also implied she suffers from PTSD as she blames herself for her aunt's death. As such, Miki has poor self-esteem. In part to her depression and most likely schizophrenia, Miki can be quite paranoid at times, with an overactive imagination. At the same time, her vivid imagination allows her to be creative. Miki is a romance novelist and is gifted at playing the piano. Beyond this, she's quite forgiving towards other people and bears them no ill will, even if they hurt her. Additionally, family is very important to Miki. In the Good End, she becomes a more positive person and properly comes to terms with her trauma. As a result, Miki is determined to get treatment for her mental illness and has a much happier outlook on life.

so uh. i started playing paranoiac instead and while it's definitely better (too many annoying chase scenes imo) i have to admit i was not expecting to suddenly be relating to this game

started playing insanity by uri! i've heard it didn't get good reviews but it's her first game so i'll try it out anyhow.

ok so i've been playing for a bit and i think the main reason this one didn't get good reviews is that. nothing is happening. maybe it's just a slow start tho

might've just gotten kenta killed lol

gonna take a little break for now. not a bad game exactly, but i can definitely see why it didn't get very popular. kinda slow overall, not a lot of direction. still, it's interesting enough i guess

TAG DUMP PT. 3

okay since y’all seem interested, here’s the crossover/story idea i had for a handful of rpg horror games. i decided to call it Harvest Festival

(this is copy-pasted straight from my notes app since im not used to sharing my writing, pls be nice)

here’s the premise/plot: after our heroes have experienced horrors beyond their imagination and found their way back to safety, they find themselves in a decrepit old-timey little mountain town surrounded by forest, with no memory of how they got there and no way out through the misty woods. the few townspeople they find are emaciated and wraithlike, and speak of an “infestation” and the coming harvest festival, when a great feast is to be had. everywhere they look, rats peer back at them, their beady eyes glinting with spite. something’s not right here.

misc details:

- near the end of Ib’s story, close to the confrontation with Mary, “Viola” (aka the witch Ellen in Viola’s body) fails the painting puzzle in her story and is suddenly thrown into the fabricated world. Realizing that she’ll be trapped if she doesn’t kill two of the other three, “Viola” attacks them with her knife, but loses the fight, and is incapacitated long enough for Ib, Garry, and Mary to escape and re-enter the real world, leaving “Viola” trapped in Mary’s place

- “Viola” is none too pleased about this and neither is her demon cat, who now takes the form of a demon rat and has brought our heroes to this cursed town in the middle of nowhere to kill them off in an elaborate ritual to bring “Viola” back into the real world, which is what the “feast” on the final day of the harvest festival truly is

- lots of our heroes’ old friends make appearances in this, such as some of the paintings from the fabricated world (albeit slightly damaged due to the curse) and our favorite purple bitch, Oni (who is actually a good boy in this, he was brought to the town due to the curse and just wants to go home)

- the characters find their old weapons and tools lying around the town

- “Ellen” (aka Viola’s soul in Ellen’s body) is trapped in Ellen’s body even in death due to the demon cat/rat using the remaining magic in “Ellen’s” body/soul to trap our heroes, and she wanders the town as a ghost desperately trying to help our heroes escape in hopes of saving them (and everyone else “Viola” could hurt if she escapes) from suffering her fate

- Hiroshi finds a cat (specifically the one in the fake-out jumpscare scene from Ao Oni) and names them Scribble

- when they meet Oni, they’re investigating an old farm after losing their weapons to a trap in the farmhouse and they suddenly see a flash of something huge moving near the treeline, which then pauses, looks up, and rushes towards them. Garry tells the others to get behind him, but it knocks them aside like a ragdoll and singles out Hiroshi, eyes glinting with recognition. Hiroshi is too terrified to move, and braces themself as the creature leans in....and then buries its face into Hiroshi’s chest, whimpering like a puppy. turns out, it was hiding near the farm because it was scared of everything and everyone in the cursed town, and only approached them because he recognized Hiroshi. poor guy

- Mary and Oni get along really well, since Mary is used to weird creatures, Oni likes the creepy dolls that seem to follow Mary around, and they both like to draw. oh and they’re both fucked up and evil, that too.

- eventually Oni stops being scared of the creepy townspeople and just starts eating em, but usually he spits them out because the protagonist squad aren’t very cool with it (except for a few times, because those times the townspeople are bastards)

- also, in this au Hiroshi’s friends escape the mansion unharmed, as their “deaths” turn out to be one of the many supernatural illusions in the mansion meant to mess with them (all four kids were split up and thought they were the only survivor until they reunited at the very end). however, they’re separated from the main cast until the ending

- Ogre, the mysterious red-eyed salesman, also makes an appearance, and while he seems to be on our heroes’ side, his intentions are unclear, and they only really trust him because they need all the help they can get. Aya is especially distrustful of the strange man, who seems to take a bit too much interest in her. (Aya does not become evil in this au because i can do whatever i want)

Game Description

Paranoiac is a freeware survival horror role-playing video game made by Uri. In the game, Miki Takamura moved into the house which belonged to her aunt. Her first night there, she’s attacked by a strange, fleshy and shadowy monster with a human shape. Every night since, the monster returns. Meanwhile, Miki’s mother grows more distant from her. Now, Miki’s only ally is her neighbor from across the street, but he later starts doubting her sanity.

Miki Takamura moves into a house formerly owned by her aunt. Filled with mysteriously locked doors, the house has an oppressive air. And though wanting to use it to recuperate, strange things keep happening to her... Uri has released a remake of her second game, the horror exploration game Paranoiac. It revamps the graphics and layout, adds some new parts to the story, and makes the chase sequences significantly less obtuse and punishing. Even if there have been slight changes to the story, though, it is still that game. So be aware there are themes of mental illness and abuse.
