I was thinking "Man, I bet a lot of Locked Tomb fans would go nuts for Die," and then I realized I knew a bunch of comics I think fellow Muir fans would like. So here, have some of my personal faves.
Tumblr media
Bitch Planet, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Valentine De Landro
This one will probably never be completed, but the two existing volumes are absurdly good. It's about an off-world penal colony for non-compliant women. Brutal, angry, pulpy--and full of love and admiration for women who rebel.
Tumblr media
Die, Kieron Gillen, Stephanie Hans
Goth as hell, lovely, and extremely gender. All about the power of story, but story here is not inspirational. It is eldritch: amoral, all-powerful, and hungry.
Tumblr media
Love and Rockets, Jaime Hernandez, Gilbert Hernandez, Mario Hernandez
I'm particularly thinking of the Jaime stuff here--queer punks on bizarre adventures, loving and surviving in a shit-ass world.
Tumblr media
Monstress, Marjorie Liu, Sana Takeda
A terrifying and powerful lesbian on a quest for revenge has an elder god come out of her arm stump occasionally to kill people. Also, there is a cat who is a nekomancer. (Get it?)
Tumblr media
Once and Future, Kieron Gillen, Dan Mora, Tamra Bonvillain
There's a lot going on here thematically, but whatever. Just take a look at Bridgette, 80-something monster hunter with just the worst attitude you've ever heard of. See that old woman? You will absolutely want to fuck that old woman.
Tumblr media
Pretty Deadly, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Emma Rios
Ungh. The art. The deathiness. The art. Imagine if the Locked Tomb took its aesthetic cues from westerns, swap out necromancers for reapers, and you're pretty much there. Just a gorgeous series.
Tumblr media
The Sandman, Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, Mike Dringenberg
You have heard of Sandman. It is as good as you have heard. Shares with TLT an unflinching--but warm--look into the darkness.
Tumblr media
Tigress Queen, Allison Shaw
Buff warrior queen must enter the opulent city of the enemy empire to seek peace. Palace intrigue, diplomatic tensions, occasional fights. Everyone is very sexy.
Obligatory mention for the five of you who never put on gray bodypaint: Homestuck is interesting, but I do not recommend it because I do not think the comic itself is very good. Homestuck is a several-thousand page joke at the expense of the reader. It did not deserve the passionate, creative fandom it attracted.
It gets mentioned a lot as a TLT influence because Muir co-wrote a beloved fic (Promstuck), but she herself has said it's not any bigger an influence than a million other things she's read or played. There are some interesting overlaps, but many of those are because she's influenced by the same material Hussie is (notably parser games and jrpgs).
If you really want to read Homestuck, I recommend listening to Homestuck Made This World as you go.

And for once, you let go, Of your fears and your ghosts. One step, not much, But it said enough
"Natural Twenty!" Erica shouted excitedly, the rest of the table jumping to their feet in uproar. Eddie stared pensively over the laminated board separating him from the rest of his players, waiting for apprehensive silence to descend over the group again.
"Lady Applejack. How do you want to do this?" He smiled proudly, Erica's face lighting up as she described her character dealing the final blow to the big bad boss of Eddie's latest imaginative campaign.
"And with that, Lady Applejack has once again saved the party for immeasurable peril. Until next week brave heroes." Eddie said gradiously, rising to his feet and performing a dramatic bow as Mike remarked, returning Erica's victorious dice to her outstretched hand
"I feel like ever since you joined this group you always seem to get the final hit in."
"That's girl power Wheeler, get used to it." She replied confidently, turning to face a now laughing Eddie, the only person allowed to use his town-given label affectionately "Speaking of, Freak, when you are getting your girlfriend to join in? It'd be nice to have a little more representation of my fine gender."
He heard Gareth scoff beside him, still in disbelief at yours and Eddie's relationship despite all evidence to the contrary, convinced Eddie had just been playing an elaborate game with him since that first night at the Hideout.
"That's a nice thought Sinclair, but I don't think Dungeons and Dragons is really her thing." Eddie dismissed, feeling a bit embarrassed by the suggestion for a reason he couldn't quite put his finger on.
"Let me guess," Erica continued, one hand on her hip like Eddie was about to be dealt more damage than his precious game's monsters, "You've never even asked (y/n)?" Eddie faltered, defensive and unsure why he was suddenly the one being interrogated. "You know what Munson, i'll make you a bet."
"Erica, you've got to stop making bets on people's lives." Lucas sighed from across the room, only to get immediately shushed.
"I'll bet you ten american dollars that if you ask (y/n) if she wants to join the party, she'll say yes." Silence fell amongst the group, wondering if the quest cast Eddie's way would be a gauntlet he chose to accept.
"You're on Sinclair, let me know if you need something to break your piggy bank with ." He mocked, spitting out his answer before he could think about it enough to back out. But as Erica mimed shaking his hand across the table and the group started to pack up their things, a certain chill seemed to settle under his skin at the thought of broaching the topic with you.
---
"Eddie? Eddie. Eddie!" You repeated, starting to wave your hand an inch from his nose until finally he snapped out of his trance.
"Sorry, we're on question two right? I was just thinking about it." He quickly tried to recover, watching an unconvinced expression form across your face as you set the pen in your hand down amongst the books and papers scattered across your bedroom floor.
"We were on question two forty minutes ago. And you've been somewhere else all day." You leant forward across the floor, crawling closer to Eddie so you could kneel right in front of him, knees lightly meeting on his. "What are you actually thinking about Eddie?" You asked softly, trying to mask the concern in your voice as you placed your hands in his lap.
The truth was, from the moment Erica had mentioned you at D&D, Eddie had felt a mess. It should be a seemingly innocuous step in your relationship, your answer either way not bearing any weight on how you felt about Eddie. But Eddie knew it meant a lot more than that to him. There was a reason he hadn't wanted to bring up that important piece of his life with you; and the reason was fear.
Even though it was just a game, as soon as Eddie started running a dungeons and dragons club in second year of high school, people had turned it into so much more than that. It felt like every year his reputation grew yet again, the cruel names, the snide comments, the satanic rumours about him spreading until he felt like he couldn't even look Wayne in the eye for fear of what he'd heard about him, and even worse, what he believed. It felt like D&D was so intrinsically tied up in Eddie's bad reputation, in the things about him that made it impossible for him to fit in with everyone in Hawkins, that broaching the subject with you could only end in more ridicule, more scorn.
All day Eddie'd been haunted by the ghost of his life before you were in it. The constant taunting at school, the fear of what the rumour mill would churn out next, feeling like maybe he'd just never be enough for someone to want in the way he wanted them. And now, as you perched barely an inch away from him, empathy emanating from your eyes as you watched the gears turning his head, his sullen expression setting your own mind racing, Eddie felt like he was about to open a gate in Hawkins you'd finally choose to exit through, leaving him behind and alone again.
"It's nothing, I was just wondering," he readied himself, taking a deep breath to try and steady the imminent cracking in his voice, knowing if he let fear win out in this moment it's one he'd always regret. And he knew, deep under all that worry, that if there was anyone he could stop feeling scared around, it was you,
"Would you ever want to play D&D with me and Hellfire club?" He let the question hang in the air, watching a confused frown form across your brow and bracing himself for the haunting rejection that was about to come.
You could feel your face portray how lost you were by his request, unsure how something that made him so happy would make him so uncomfortable to talk about. Was he worried you'd ruin it for him and the group, because you didn't know all the rules? Did he feel like he just had to invite you as his girlfriend? As the second of silence passed you watched the depth behind his intensely dark eyes drift from discomfort to genuine sadness, finally understanding what this exchange meant to him. He wasn't worried you'd say yes, he was terrified you'd say no, and call him a freak like the others. He was scared to let you into a part of his life that so many mocked, worried even asking would change how you felt about him.
And so you let the widest smile you could muster break out across your cheeks, letting out a happy chuckle as you asked excitedly,
"Can I really? Are you sure that would be okay!" You practically bounced as you drew yourself up on your knees, watching Eddie's apprehensive expression, still waiting for you to deliver a punchline at his expense.
"Yeah, of course, if you want to." He stumbled through the confirmation, watching with suspicion as you shifted position again, a relieved smile starting to cross his worried face as you settled onto his lap, wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling your chest tightly against his.
"Thank you Eddie! I'd love to." You held your position until you felt Eddie's arm finally react and begin to envelop you, vice-like in their encompassing hold, but leaving you just enough room to pull back to bring your face back in his view. He scanned it eagerly, looking for any signs of deceit or sarcasm, judgement or disgust, but just found the warm joy he'd still not grown accustomed to having so close.
"Really?" He found himself breathing out without thought, unconvinced of your answer to his request, but even more astounded by your existence in his life, the seemingly missing piece from his years of anguish.
"Really!" You replied, like it was the most obvious thing in the world, lips finding his in your excitement and feeling the undeniable response of a smile. "Can you give up on homework and start teaching me the game?" You asked happily, wondering quite what you had just signed yourself up for, but looking forward to seeing Eddie in his element nonetheless. Eddie stared back at you for a moment, heart bursting at the prospect of getting to talk you through something that meant so much to him, like another little piece of his being was revealed and you were accepting it with the same unending affection you had the rest of him. He let one hand loosen its hold on your waist, the other coiling round tightly to fill the void, while he brought his palm to the side of your face, bringing it back towards him again.
"Not yet." He said happily, excitable kiss landing on your lips as he pulled you tightly against him, intending to keep you firmly in his lap for the rest of the afternoon if he could help it. He could let go of his fear and his ghosts, as long as he didn't have to let go of you.
---
That week Eddie found himself setting up for Hellfire even earlier than usual, nervous for your first experience of the game, but excited that it meant he'd have you perched beside him all night. You agreed to just watch the session that afternoon, still trying to get your head around the basic mechanics of the game and wanting to see how it all worked in practice before jumping in yourself. The party were set to arrive at 5:30, and by 5pm Eddie had laid out all his props, carefully hiding key figurines behind his dungeon master's screen and watching you carefully rotate each one in your hands as you examined it closely from your chair beside his throne. It had taken a bit of convincing that you did in fact need your own chair for the evening, Eddie campaigning whole-heartedly for you to just spend the session observing from his lap, cocky smile creeping across his lips as he threw glances to the clock above the door periodically,
"If you insist on sitting over there for the game, you could at least do me the honour of joining me on my throne before everyone else gets here." He uncrossed his legs and patted the top of his thighs, feeling more in his element settled in his master's chair than he thought he would around you. Eddie wore confidence well, his eyes glowing darker as you obliged his request, lifting slowly from your seat to straddle his lap, fingers weaving through his hair as his hands found your hips,
"You can have me for ten minutes, then back to my chair, I don't want to scar any of your freshman," You flirted, Eddie nodded slightly in agreement before his lips landed on yours, wasting no time and knowing it wasn't a freshman he was hoping to scar. His chest pressed into yours as his thumbs rubbed warm circles in the soft skin of your thighs, taking your content hum as an opportunity to pass his tongue through your lips. Caught up in the intoxicating taste of Eddie you always missed the smile flashing against your lips as you heard the room's double doors creak open behind you.
"Eddie, why'd you...AH!" A confused voice called behind you, before falling into awkward silence as you climbed off Eddie lap, noticing his reluctance to loosen his grip on you.
"Gareth, you're early." Eddie feigned surprise, knowing full well he had given him the wrong time, basking in the baffled look on his face at your position by Eddie's side. "I don't think you two have properly met you, Gareth this is my girlfriend (y/n)." The word girlfriend was loaded with emphasis, the set up quickly becoming clear to you, even if the motive remained a mystery,
"Nice to meet you Gareth." You offered with a small wave, trying to remember anything beyond climbing on Eddie's lap. "I hope you don't mind, Eddie said I could sit in on Hellfire today so I can see how this all works for when I wanna play."
"Eddie said you could sit in? You want to play Dungeons and Dragons?" Scepticism still clear in his voice as Eddie draped his arm over you, less than subtlely planting a kiss to your template as you returned to your separate seats.
"Yeah one day! Why don't you tell me about your character?" You asked as Gareth began pulling sheets of paper out of a notebook, still unsure if this was an elaborate set up from Eddie, rather than admitting to a lie. As he began to tell you the details, you were sure out of the corner of your eye you could see Eddie stick out his tongue at Gareth from beside you, beaming with confidence in your company. Even if you didn't end up enjoying the game tonight, you could tell you were going to really enjoy the confident, funny, and somehow sexier than usual dungeon master Eddie.
Eddie watched the scene playout with glee, ecstatic that his friend was going to have to stop being surprised at every mention of your name now. However as sweet as the vindicating feeling was, he could only consider it his second favourite Hellfire interaction of the week.

Two Days Earlier:
It was no wonder Erica walked through the halls of her middle school like she owned the place, crowd of friends swarming her side, drawn to her confidence and unwavering loyalty to herself and those she deemed worthy of her friendship. That Tuesday was no different, pausing while one of her assorted besties exchanged books from their locker, Erica monologuing fluently about 'it being absolute bullshit if she doesn't get made captain of the debate team this year.'
"Erica, sorry to interrupt but I think that guy is looking at you?" One of her friends stopped her, pointing to the figure coming down the corridor and beginning a wave of giggles from the squad around her.
"What the freak?" Erica sighed out in disbelief as she recognised the figure of Eddie Munson towering over the kids in her middle school, walking confidently through the halls, clutching a cupcake in one hand as he scanned the shapes below him. As broadly as his reputation seemed to have spread around Hawkins, it didn't seem like any of the middle school girls knew Eddie as a freak, any older boy approaching Erica enough to send a few excitedly scurrying off to begin stirring up the rumour mill.
"Sinclair!" Eddie called out as he finally laid eyes on his target, ignoring the look of borderline outrage she gave him as he stomped over, oblivious to the stares of the kids around him.
"What are you doing here Munson? Even you can't be repeating this many years." Erica delivered the line suspiciously, the kind of comment that would have stung from anyone else, but from Erica only drew a wry laugh from Eddie.
"Not quite Lady Applejack, I come with an offering." He fumbled in his pocket for a second before pulling out a ten dollar note, extending it to the frowning middle schooler before her patience with him expired completely. "You won the bet, so this is for you. And this is for you as well." He continued, revealing the cupcake resting on his outstretched palm, "Just as a thank you." His performative tone dipped into sincerity as the sentence came to an end, Erica letting herself exchange a real smile with Eddie, happy for her friend and her just desserts.
"You're welcome. And you should never doubt me again." She said, nodding seriously as she took a bit of the well-earned treat. She tilted her head as she chewed, eyes widening at Eddie, "Was there something else?" Eddie laughed, genuinely a bit intimidated by the girl that barely reached hip height on him, and bowed as he stepped away.
"That's it, enjoy the spoils of your victory!" And with that he bounded back down the corridor, conscious to get through the exit before any of his old teachers saw him and realised he still had homework due.
"Who was that!" A chorus of girls whispered as they formed around Erica again, her surprise visitor sure to be the talk of all her afternoon classes.
"Just a senior who needed my advice with something." Erica remarked nonchalantly, taking another bite of her cupcake before setting back off to class. Owning middle school was easy.

LOS ANGELES, CA - Classic historical drama film Braveheart is receiving a reboot by Paramount Pictures next year, this time with an all-female cast.
Lena Dunham will play the starring role of Willow Wallace, a "fierce Scottish she-warrior who don't need no man."
Co-stars include Melissa McCarthy, Amy Schumer, and Beyonce. The band of female fighters will go on a brave quest to topple the patriarchy in 14th-century England, attempting to establish an all-female commune in present-day Scotland.
In an inspiring speech late in the film, Dunham's character will rant about abortion rights and healthcare for all, inspiring her squad of she-soldiers to charge into battle. "Aye, fight, and you may die. Run, and you may live another day being oppressed by heteronormative gender constructs," she yells. "But dying in a concentration camp run by Mike Pence many years from now, would you trade all the days from this day to that, to come back here and tell our patriarchal oppressors that they may take our lives, but they will never take our access to abortion on demand?"
The majority of the army is, of course, slaughtered.
"Historical drama films about men who actually existed have been very exclusionary in the past, insisting on casting men to play the men," said director Zena Noman. "We can finally end the discrimination that women face in not being cast for male roles. It's time to break the stigma."
Paramount is hoping the film can make at least $10 at the box office, according to insiders.

dear moon smoosnoom,
i think i should stop sending u this daily compliment and start sending u daily remittances bc there’s no way u let us read ur fics for free.
u also published ur work the minute my class started so it's ur fault that i couldn't say a word in italian about gender equality (i forgave u the moment i read the first sentence).
anyway i have to stop mumbling cause i have a lots of thoughts about “mike wheeler's guide to falling in love with a superhero”.
i started giggling from the first line. mike wheeler is a vivid example of cringefail loser and i really wanna know what aunt janine did (there must be something REALLY bad since she's on the list next to the mosquitoes).
i love how everyone has already come to terms with the constant fights of superheroes and villains and don’t pay attention to them until their lives are in danger.
i love that mike is always late whether superheroes are involved or not.
i love that mike with spiderman and mike with will are two different mikes. the first is slightly vicious with his dislike of superheroes and causticity and the second is just a guy who can't make a complete sentence in front of a charming neighbor (it’s me. hi. it’s me then i try to write u smth cute but not cringy). will must be so confused lmfaooo good thing he likes both mikes.
and it’s a good thing that mike likes will’s both hypostasis. i like that they r still first of all friends with common interests and only then fools in love.
i also love that mike is not a complete idiot. the fact that he realized that will is a spiderman almost immediately (here he figured out who’s will faster than he understands that he likes guys in some fics). and the fact that he didn’t kiss him in a costume.
mike wheeler extolled his partners all his life in order to eventually fall in love with a superhero. he’s a loser but he’s my loser.
i love that mike wanted to make things right so he brought will flowers. and he wanted to like wait until their real date to kiss him 🥺 and why is will surprised that mike knows?? honey not that you hid it very well.
and the upside down kiss! it’s must be so inconvenient but it’s so iconic.
i wanted to share my favorite quotes but there r so many of them… so here’s the one that made me giggle to tears: “They sit together in a cafe, after Dustin finally finds a free Monday afternoon from his job of being a director, Nobel Physiology Prize winner, entrepreneur, and his ongoing quest to achieve world peace, and Mike had finally felt strangely sociable, agreeing to meet up and chat.”
i think i should write u another poem just to show u how much i love u and talented u r.
love, daily anon 🤍
dear daily anonymous,
icant believe even a little anyone wants to read anything i write !!!!! id be insane to charge anyone anything, altho i am incredibly Broke . speaking italian is so crazy cool, im also bilingual !!!! would love to hear ur thoughts abt gender equality, altho idk how much i would understand :]
i made u giggle !!!!!! everyone cheered !!!!!!!!!!! aunt janine has done unspeakable actions that he would rather not mention right now, thank u, and she should be glad to be placed next to Mosquitos !!!!
i do think new york is a "mind ur business" kind of place, at least from what ive seen during my stay there, and mike does seem the sort to always be a little late and a little flustered around his attractive neighbor (just the one) (and don't worry i think ur plenty charming 🫶)
yes yes !!!! i always think friendship is the best foundation for a romantic relationship :)
mike is one of the smartest ppl in the show !!!! he's great at spotting patterns and i think he would be so so quick to pick up on will being spiderman !!! (and that's so true omg i love realization fics but im also very impatient !!!)
mike wheeler the hypocrite that u are 🫶🫶🫶
yeyes despite it all mike is a sap !! and he wants to do it all right !!!! LOLL give will some credit, altho it's not like will Wanted mike to figure it out haha that would be Crazy ...... 👁👁
i remember watching the upskde down kiss when i was like . three . and being so confused i had no concept of who or what spiderman was 😭 but it still stuck with me so many years later !!!
im soso happy u liked it !!!! ur opinion means the world to me and i cherish it very much, so thank u for reading it !!!!! i might write u a sonnet next time
love, moon smoosnoom 🫂

Kroashent Commission: FrogQuest
A commission for https://www.deviantart.com/srgntdrew , finds the perpetually cursed knight, Sieur Michelle (formerly Sieur Michel), previously turned into a frog by their rival, Claudia d'Artois, but partially restored.  Realizing, and coming to terms with their strange fates, Michelle sets off into the world on a pilgrimage of self-discovery to find out who they really are after all their changes, leaving Aulnay in the capable hands of their lover and friends.  Where will their journey take them next? ----------------- Val's Notes: I've had the pleasure and opportunity of drawing Mike's adventures in Alvez for some time now, with the generous support of Srgntdrew to make Michelle, Thierry and the others as living, breathing characters in the world of Kroashent.  Sir Mike, as they are more commonly known has quite a collection of adventures and transformations outside of Kroashent's world though, and I decided it would be a fun challenge to push the envelope a little further and give Michelle a little extra push in their design to set apart their Kroashent appearance and make them a little more unique to Alvez.  This seemed like a great conceptual piece to start that experiment, as Michelle sets out from home on a quest to define their new life. I am a big believer in using colour as a part of a character, so I wanted to keep the colour palette of Mike's iconic and striking black and gold armour.  Because this is cloth, not specially forged armor, I diluted the colours somewhat, and added in a brown gambeson with polished bone clasps, a simple padded armor often used for travel, light combat and everyday use by medieval knights.  Gambeson in Alvez are worn by both male and female persons, as the world supports a wide martial tradition across all genders, and it seemed like a perfect fit for Mike as they determine their own identity between the man they were and the woman they have become, (among other changes) and they determine who they want to be. The Gamberson, longcoat and pants is a functional outfit for any of the situations Michelle finds themselves in, between travel, fighting and the fairly new role as their lover's companion at court.  Its not too formal, but is acceptable in a wide range of situations, stylish but lacking ostentatious flair that the simple soldier would frown upon (unlike their rival, Claudia, who is all about that flair) Let me know what you think about this new look and I hope you enjoyed this little behind the scenes peak into my creative process. -----------------

808 can also turn into a hovering spherical ball, changing her appearance to just her face, ears and a red line signifying her collar. In this form, a speaker appears on the back of her head that sends out visible pulses which acts a a metronome.
Bunk Bed Junction walked so Chai could run; the former’s abandoned revolt brought about an international renaissance in Rock music. Chai intended to go to Vinyl City and get music lessons from Bunk Bed Junction, but his plans got derailed when the Noh Choiarks and the Noh Saiarks attacked the province. A friendship with Hime, the Bomber Girls Cures, Cure Earl, and Mike ensued when they teamed up to put down the invasion.
Ever since synchronizing with Chai, 808 has taken a great liking towards him and his social circles, often posing with them, emoting and sharing reactions to the events in front of them. Besides this, she normally acts as a regular cat. Although on some occasions, 808 performs gestures such as mimicking karate poses or, in very specific instances, Mike’s poses. 808 only has a basic idea of what Tokusatsu is.

Maybe not the healthiest love language, but I love how upset Jimmy gets when Kim is hurt/in danger.
im watching the video and omg 😭😭😭
at least we know he truly loves her!
He hadn't prayed in over 20 years, but he did when Iris was born.
every day that I remember bcs exists I always wish there was some sort of spin off as jimmy and Kim as parents 😞
or any new content with Kim really
I'm sure we'll get more follow up with Kim eventually. I just hope it delves into her taking on a more matriarchal role.
I hope so!! I can't wait for it
It's hard to explain; Kim has her own relationship with God/suffering, and Jimmy can do his best to support her through it, but ultimately he is a helpless bystander. Something about the gender roles of that dynamic just really appeals to me.
that does sound really interesting, can you explain more on the whole Kim's relationship to god thing?
It mostly ties back into what I was saying in my Bandersnatch post. When Kim was becoming paranoid about the cartel following her, that left her with lasting trauma. Even when she "knew" she was out of the woods, the feeling of eyes on the back of her neck never left her. This was roughly the same time the dreams about Iris started, so the emotions are all mixed together.
She was an atheist/agnostic for most of her life, but after she moved from Florida to Wyoming, she tried to make more of an effort to reflect, open her mind to higher spirituality and philosophy. Maybe she was just trying to make sense of her guilt over everything that happened. Why she has so many dreams, and they all end with a gun in her hand. Pastor Dawson said a few things that resonated with her, and that's partially what motivated her to work with him. But ultimately she is on her own quest.
There is this lingering feeling of doom, and Iris isn't an escape from that; they're just a part of the bigger picture. But even if Kim can't see the future clearly, she can sense it, and she dreads it.
She was hoping during the delivery she would get some kind of clarity. But while it was overall a positive experience, she never quite got the epiphany she was hoping for. She's trying to get better about this, but she's always felt like she had to bear everything alone. It's hard to let Jimmy in. Because he's a man, and the stereotype is that men are out of their depths dealing with matters of witchcraft or life and death.
oh wow 😮 it does suck thinking about how they'll never truly feel safe, even if that's all we want for jimmy, Kim and their kids. but I know life isn't always fair..
I don't actually want Kim safe. I want her making the death-by-a-thousand-cuts sacrifice all movers and shakers of history find themselves making. Besides, I've never been menaced by the cartel and I STILL can't shake the looming dread. Things ARE going to get worse before they get better. I like the idea that on some gut level Kim knows she is a character in a tv show. But even if it's all just a story, that doesn't mean what she does doesn't matter. People copy what they see in the movies, so she better watch her step.
I really do like when Kim does badass things, it's so cool! even after everything. I know I'd be stressed asf or something lol
We do see some echoes of Mike with the way Kim handles things, especially as she gets older: her hands shake, but only when no one else is watching.
My OC Rita, she's been trying to warn Kim all along that there's a great destiny in store for her, but it's not going to be pretty. Then again Rita is also a sadist and a misandrist, so her advice to exclude Jimmy from spiritual/mental/physical turmoil, should probably be taken with a grain of salt.
I love when there's parallels between brba and bcs, within the shows and characters. I think it's cool to incorporate that in your writing especially
yeah haha id take that advice with a grain of salt too
Kim only speaks to Rita in her dreams, and she never remembers the details of the conversations afterwards
but the deja vu can get pretty heavy sometimes
oh wow 😮 do you Kim wakes up and tries to write down the details or something like that? but I usually forget my dreams as soon as I wake up so maybe that's why
Half the time she doesn't remember that there's anything to write down. She would get a chill if she saw Rita's face in a crowd in her waking life, but she doesn't even remember the name of the demon.
I see... that must be scary not exactly knowing this person. im sure she has a lot of questions
But it's kind of fucky; the continuity should be easy to explain but it's not:
By Kim's perception, the universe of Breaking Bad is "the real world"; this is where she spends most of her time, where she works, where her family is, where the memories of her life can be understood as a linear experience. This place called "Allusion Hall" is the dream world, a Backrooms type location where time flows differently. Kim comes here during the night to sort out her thoughts and emotions, but she always returns to Breaking Bad the next morning.
To Rita, Allusion Hall is the reality and Breaking Bad is the dream world. Fictional universes are simulations that characters can be plucked out of, repaired, influenced, and sent back. Breaking Bad is just one of the worlds Rita has access to, and she's been interfering with hundreds of female characters, anyone she feels like buggering really. Mostly just to be a skeez, but there is a larger political goal she's been working towards.
I forget if you said you watch Westworld but I am very directly pulling from this: "Friendly blonde farmgirl goes about her day-to-day life pretending like the game of cowboys and indians/cops and robbers is the natural order of things. But on her deepest level she knows this whole life is just an illusion, and there's a deeper purpose to why the above-ground world looks the way it does".
no I haven't seen Westward, but the whole reality and dream world kind of reminds me of like reality shifting which I remember being popular on TikTok a couple of years ago 😅 I don't know if you know what that is but that just came to mind
I don't think "shifting" works but I get why people do it. People will find any excuse to embrace the idea that the pain can be escaped with just the right mental trick; that's what religion is. But the thing is, if you were in a tv show, how would you ever know?
true.. unless there's some like weird 4th wall breaks? or some Truman show stuff, although ive haven't seen that yet either lol
The point being, Jimmy can tell something's been bothering Kim. Pregnancy can be a stressful time for a woman but this... this is something more. But even if she wants to explain to him, she doesn't even know how. And she's really worried that if she starts unironically getting into these red pill vs blue pill theories, he'll think she's crazy. He already lost one loved one to delusion; she really doesn't want to scare him like this.
But the story I want to write, she does get up the nerve to tell him while they're at the hospital. And he basically assures her that even if he doesn't fully comprehend, he's putting his faith in her. They don't need to be in agreement about cosmology exactly, and he will stop her if he thinks she's going down a bad road with this. But at least for the time being, he's feels that the odds she's onto something are not just possible but probable.
I want this short fic to be about themes of religion and paranoia, but mostly about how wanting to shield other people from what's hurting you can be selfish. Usually not to the same extent, but childbirth can hurt the father too, because if you love someone you hurt with them.
No matter what happens, pacing the waiting room is always worse.
you really do think about this a lot, it's cool how passionate you are about them
^_^
Since exams are over, hopefully I'll find time to sit down and finish this fic.
I can't wait then!!
He sees so much of Kim in Iris. They mostly look and act like their dad, but every once in a while, something about the eyes, a look they give, their mannerisms, it makes him feel like he finally did something right in his life, continued something that deserved continuing. Still feels too good to be true.
aww that's so cute
And even the parts of himself he sees reflected, it reminds him that being hard on himself never solves anything. He's made mistakes. He's made lots and lots of mistakes. And nobody owes him any forgiveness. But maybe he let comments like "so you were always like this" cut deeper than they needed to. Cus when he looks at Iris, he doesn't see a bad kid, even if god knows how young he was when Chuck started looking at him like he was. He sees someone with a good heart but a lot of energy, someone who could do a lot of good in the world if given a strong sense of discipline and an understanding ear. I think for both parents, the reflection they see in that child's eyes comes with less personality dysmorphia than what the parents were getting from a common mirror. And sure, that alone isn't a good reason to have a kid. But once the kid's here, having thoughts like that are kind of unavoidable.
Although when Kim looks at Iris, I wouldn't say the echoes of "We are poison together" have stopped. But it does frame things in a more positive light: animals evolve venom for a reason.

Michael Savage of New Canaan Discusses the Link Between Family Poverty and Child Labor in Honduras
Reporting by Mike Savage from New Canaan CT
In the heart of Central America lies Honduras, a country with a rich cultural heritage and a landscape that spans from tropical rainforests to picturesque coastlines.
Despite its natural beauty, Honduras grapples with a pervasive issue that threatens the well-being of its future generations: the alarming connection between family poverty and child labor in Honduras.
This article delves into the intricate web of factors that contribute to this link, examining the socio-economic challenges faced by families in Honduras and the detrimental impact it has on the lives of children.
Honduras Historical Context
To understand the present-day scenario, it’s crucial to explore the historical factors that have shaped Honduras and laid the groundwork for the current state of affairs. Honduras has a complex history marked by political instability, economic inequality, and social challenges.  Mike Savage New Canaan
The country has faced periods of political turmoil, leaving a lasting impact on its economic development and exacerbating disparities among its population.
The agriculture-dominated economy of Honduras has often struggled to provide sustainable livelihoods for its citizens. Small-scale farmers face challenges ranging from unpredictable weather patterns to a lack of access to modern agricultural practices. The resulting economic instability has led to widespread poverty, with a significant portion of the population living below the poverty line.
The Intersection of Poverty and Child Labor
In the intricate tapestry of poverty, one distressing pattern emerges: the exploitation of children through labor. Poverty acts as a catalyst for child labor, pushing families to make difficult choices in their quest for survival.
The desperation to put food on the table and secure shelter often leads parents to send their children to work, foregoing their right to education and a proper childhood.
Children engaged in labor are often subjected to hazardous conditions, working in agriculture, construction, and other sectors where their physical and mental well-being is compromised.
The vicious cycle perpetuates as these children are denied the opportunity for education, limiting their chances of breaking free from the clutches of poverty in the future.
That’s just one reason my wife, Sandra, and I established the Mike Savage-Rivera Foundation from our New Canaan home to help donate vital necessities to the impoverished families of Honduras.
Factors Contributing to Child Labor
Several interconnected factors contribute to the perpetuation of child labor in Honduras, with poverty being the linchpin:
Lack of Access to Education: Poverty severely limits families’ ability to send their children to school. Inadequate infrastructure, a shortage of qualified teachers, and the cost of uniforms and supplies further impede access to education. As a result, children are left with limited options, often forced into the workforce at an early age. Savage New Canaan
Limited Employment Opportunities for Adults: The scarcity of viable employment opportunities for adults, particularly in rural areas, leaves families with no choice but to rely on the income generated by their children. This is a heartbreaking consequence of systemic issues that hinder economic growth and development.
Social Norms and Cultural Factors: Deep-seated cultural norms often perpetuate the cycle of child labor. Traditional expectations may prioritize work over education, especially in communities where survival takes precedence over long-term aspirations. Breaking away from these ingrained beliefs becomes a formidable challenge for many families.
Impact of Gender Inequality: Gender-based discrimination further compounds the issue, as girls are often more vulnerable to exploitation. They face not only economic pressures but also societal expectations that limit their opportunities for education and personal development.
Addressing the Issue
Effectively addressing the link between family poverty and child labor in Honduras requires a multifaceted approach that tackles the root causes. Here are some key strategies:
Education Reforms: Initiatives aimed at improving access to quality education are paramount. This includes investing in school infrastructure, providing scholarships, and ensuring the availability of qualified teachers. Education must be seen as a fundamental right, not a luxury.
Economic Empowerment for Families: Programs that focus on creating sustainable livelihoods for families are crucial. This involves supporting small-scale farmers, promoting entrepreneurship, and providing vocational training to adults, thereby breaking the cycle of poverty that drives child labor.
Legislation and Enforcement: Strengthening and enforcing laws against child labor is essential. Governments, NGOs, and international organizations must work collaboratively to ensure that regulations are in place and effectively implemented. Penalties for violations should be stringent to act as a deterrent.
Community Engagement and Awareness: Changing deep-rooted cultural norms requires community engagement and awareness campaigns. These initiatives should highlight the long-term benefits of education and the detrimental effects of child labor on individual development and the community as a whole.
International Collaboration: The issue of child labor extends beyond national borders. International collaboration is crucial in addressing the root causes and providing resources for sustainable development. This involves partnerships between governments, NGOs, and international organizations to create a unified front against child labor.
Conclusion
The link between family poverty and child labor in Honduras is a complex challenge that demands concerted efforts from all stakeholders. Breaking this cycle requires a comprehensive strategy that addresses the socio-economic factors contributing to poverty while simultaneously promoting education and protecting the rights of children.
As we strive for a better future for the children of Honduras, it is essential to recognize the interconnectedness of poverty and child labor and work towards sustainable solutions that empower families and safeguard the well-being of the nation’s youth.

Day 58 on T
I finally brought myself to shave my Shitty Little Mustache and it's nice to finally tell myself "I'm clean shaven because I choose it" like I have for the last year when I started shaving, and actually having it mean something more than fighting dysphoria
Also I looked in the mirror and my chin, jaw, and cheekbones are getting ever so slightly stronger. Every day I look closer to those self portraits I did three years ago that people said were too "angular" and "masculine"
I'm in an okay place.

late meetings. - eddie munson x hopper!reader (gn)
Tumblr media
summary — after a Hellfire Club meeting runs long, the reader becomes a bit upset about waiting for Mike, Lucas, and Dustin. Eddie decides to make it up to the reader by offering them a deal they can't pass up.
(a/n - THIS IS A REWRITE. if you're looking for feminine terms and pronouns that is in this version. gender neutral pronouns are used, reader isn't meant to be blood related but rather just taken in by Hopper similar to El, (Y/N) is also 18 for obvious reasons. this story takes place after S3 but before the events of S4. enjoy!) [wordcount: 2,893 words]
_____________________________________________________________
The Hellfire Club meetings were known to run a bit long, but almost 45 minutes had passed since the time Dustin told (Y/N) to pick him and the gang up from Hawkins High.
Despite having no relation to any member of the club, (Y/N) had taken up a sort of older sibling role to the three freshmen. After Joyce and the Byers crew moved out to Lenora Hills with their little sister, the eldest Hopper child was left to pursue college in Hawkins.
Truly it was what they wanted — getting to stay in their hometown to finish out high school sounded a lot better than moving across the country. But it was times like these, sitting out in the Hawkins High parking lot, waiting on three teenage boys, where they almost wished they just went with the Byers to good ol’ California.
“Come on Munson, wrap your shit up.” they mumbled to themself, turning up the Genesis that was playing through their car’s speakers. (Y/N) didn’t have quite the same fondness for Eddie ‘the freak’ Munson that the boys seemed to.
They really hated that god awful nickname. Eddie wasn’t a freak, he wasn’t all that different from any other person with an interest. Yet, their interests never seemed to be the same, and therefore the two seniors never really had a conversation besides passing words. On top of their lack of conversation, his meeting was currently well past its ending time, and (Y/N) was getting impatient.
“Fuck it.’’ (Y/N) thought to themself, opening their car door and stepping out. It was almost 8:00pm and (Y/N) wasn’t waiting any longer. It wasn’t worth getting chewed out by the infamous Ted Wheeler about Mike's curfew, or having to apologize to Mrs. Henderson for getting Dustin home this late.
As if on cue, out burst an excited Lucas slinging a backpack over his shoulder. Raucous laughter could be heard coming from Mike and one of the upperclassmen, they was pretty sure his name was Gareth. Their meeting must’ve gone well, considering even Eddie seemed quite happy. The metalhead’s arm was draped over Dustin's shoulder, chuckling at something the 14 year old had said.
“About time, Munson. Meeting was supposed to end at 7.” (Y/N) bluntly stated, leaning up against the beat up car that was once their dad’s.
“My sincerest apologies, (Y/N).” he eccentrically responded. “Me and the gang got a little carried away, and the side quest took longer than expected. Won’t happen again.”
“Same thing you said last time, and the time before. Starting to become a bit of a catchphrase, hm?” (Y/N) quipped. It was a snarky response, and one they wouldn’t normally give, but they was tired of hearing the same excuses over and over again. Mike slammed shut the door to the backseat, snapping (Y/N) out of them and Eddie's small conversation.
“Wheeler! Easy on the door, jesus!” they turned to face the three teens that now occupied their car, slightly ticked off at their recklessness. Mike shrugged in return, as Lucas lightly nudged him in the ribs.
Eddie's voice brought (Y/N) back to the conversation at hand. “I'd love to make it up to you for all of those late meetings. You shouldn’t have to drive all the way out here just to sit for half an hour waiting on our asses.” (Y/N) couldn’t believe what they were hearing; Eddie Munson was agreeing with them for once? Unlikely to say the least.
“And how would you ‘make it up to me’?” (Y/N) played along, interested to hear his offer. “You gotta have something really good, Mu-” they started cracking on him, but the denim-cladded boy in front of them cut the mockery short.
“Let me give you and the boys a ride home.”
Well that wasn’t the response (Y/N) was expecting.
“I'll explain to their parents the reason they’re so late, and I'll pick you up in the morning to come get your car. Least I can do is bear the burden of a lecture from the Sinclairs.” the senior twice repeated offered, leaning on the hood of their car with a smile that almost seemed…genuine?
“The kids are already in my car. Plus, don’t know if I really trust your driving skills, Eddie.” They turned to open the driver side door, but to their surprise he caught their hand with his own. Looking up from his rings, they met his gaze. It wasn’t the first time they’d stolen a glance at his hazelnut brown eyes, but it was their first time being this close to the leader of the Hellfire Club.
“I'm serious. Please, let me make this up to you.” his words fell from his mouth, full of sincerity and tenderness, something (Y/N) didn’t know Eddie had within him. As much as they wanted to turn back to their car and drive off, their body wouldn’t seem to allow them to. Instead, against all of their brain’s best wishes, they met Eddie's eyes once again. “You've got a deal, Munson.”
Eddie excitedly pulled his hand away, as that same grin from before returned to his face. “But– we’re taking my car, and I'm driving.” (Y/N) swung the key around in their hand. “and you still have to talk to their parents.” A lecture was not what they wanted tonight, and Eddie so gladly took it off their hands. But the idea of Eddie Munson being behind a wheel was a hazardous notion, and one that (Y/N) would rather not deal with tonight.
Eddie's grin faltered slightly but nevertheless he happily got into the passenger seat. (Y/N) turned the key and the car sputtered to life as the voice of Phil Collins pumped through their speakers.
“Took you two long enough.” Dustin mumbled, just loud enough to be heard by the two older teens. “Henderson. Watch it.” Eddie replied, voiced laced with a sense of authority.
(Y/N) sent a slight smile in Eddie’s direction, a silent thank you for shutting down Dustin's comment. Lucas let out a chuckle at Dustin's immediate silence, before the three of them began their own conversation about some new movie Mike had seen. With a turn out of the school’s parking lot, (Y/N) mentally prepared for the show that would soon ensue.
The Wheelers were the first of three hellish conversations Eddie had to endure. With a sigh he reluctantly got out of the car with Mike, approaching their front door with a slight sense of nervousness. (Y/N) had rolled the window down to listen and watch the scene that was soon to unfold; Lucas and Dustin leaned toward them and joined in as the two nosy teenagers often did.
Eddie fidgeted with his rings after knocking on their door. He hadn’t meant to knock as hard as he did, but his anxiousness got the best of him. There was no response at first, so Eddie raised his fist to knock again when none other than Mrs. Wheeler opened the door. Their attention was first on Mike, clearly irked by his mother’s worrisome ways. This was going to be interesting.
_
“Wonder what his excuse is gonna be.” Dustin leaned over into (Y/N)’s seat, pondering his thoughts out loud. “He's lucky it’s not Mike's dad. He'd be chopped liver.” Lucas quipped.
“Speak of the devil...” (Y/N) whispered, as Mr. Wheeler himself appeared behind his wife, clearly upset about Mike's late arrival.
“Oh shit, shush, shut up-” Dustin whispered excitedly, slapping Lucas lightly on the arm. As happy as (Y/N) should’ve been, a sense of guilt filled their stomach. They thought seeing Eddie chewed out instead of them would fix the shitty mood they were in — but instead they wanted to do nothing more than run up to the Wheeler’s porch and pull him away.
_
“I couldn't be more sorry, Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler. Please don’t let this reflect on the club as a whole, or (Y/N). This was my fault.” Eddie pleaded, being as sincere as his voice would let him.
“Damn straight.” Mr. Wheeler grumbled. Mrs. Wheeler instead smiled at the older boy “Thank you for the apology Eddie. Tell (Y/N) I said thank you for bringing him home, and thank you for your maturity. Have a good night.” She said, ushering Mike further inside and closing the door.
Eddie remained there for another moment, letting out a sigh he didn’t realize he was holding onto. Turning on his heel, he threw his ring cladded hands up, shrugging towards the rest of the car. “Wasn’t so hard, (Y/N)! Ted and Karen Wheeler can be a delight.” he scoffed, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Looked like they really laid into you, man-” Lucas started before Eddie turned around to face the two remaining freshmen. “Yeah, they did Sinclair. But alas, it is my ‘duty’ as a ‘mature adult’ to take the ‘utmost responsibility for my actions’.” Eddie joked along, speaking in an old fashioned voice for the latter part of his sentence.
The smile on his face never faltered, but (Y/N) still felt upset about the whole ordeal. They should’ve stepped in, intervened, at least spoken to the Wheelers. ‘But it’s Eddie.’ their mind persisted. Eddie Munson, the character that never turned off. Without a word (Y/N) booted up the car again, speeding off in the direction of the Sinclair’s house.
As (Y/N) pulled their car into the Sinclair’s driveway they turned to Eddie, who was already promptly exiting the vehicle. (Y/N) wasn’t letting him go alone, not this time. “Dustin, stay here. make sure no one steals my car, okay?” they blurted out, opening their door and catching up to Eddie and Lucas on the porch.
“(Y/N) I told you, I got this.” Eddie said, surprised that they even left the comfort of their car.
“Just shut up and ring the doorbell.” (Y/N) snarked. They didn’t mean for it to be as harsh as it was, but for some reason here they were standing side by side with Eddie Munson, ready to take the blame for his actions, and they weren't too pleased about it. Eddie didn’t want to upset them anymore than he already had, choosing to instead quickly press the doorbell.
The Sinclair’s, unlike the Wheeler’s, weren’t too upset. “Really (Y/N), he’s come home later from basketball games. We’re just glad he’s home safe, rather than out partying like some teens.” Mrs. Sinclair remarked, wrapping an arm around her son lovingly.
“I just wanted to apologize for any worry that I, as the head of the club, might’ve caused.” Eddie spoke up again, stepping slightly in front of (Y/N). “Well thank you, both of you. Get home safe, people drive like complete maniacs after dark on this road.” Mr. Sinclair said, sending a warm look to (Y/N) and a small nod to Eddie.
With that, the two of them began walking back to (Y/N)’s car, Eddie still confused about their presence beside him. “(Y/N) I told you I would talk to them, you didn’t have to come with-”
“I just wanted to make sure he wouldn’t be home alone. Sometimes they work late, I didn't want him getting into any trouble on a school night.” (Y/N) affirmed, even though that wasn’t necessarily the entire truth. They didn’t want to mention the guilt that had built up inside of them after dropping off Mike; how they didn’t want to see Eddie uncomfortable like that again.
Eddie quickly picked up on the seemingly odd mood (Y/N) was in, choosing to not push the topic. In silence, the two of them entered (Y/N)’s car once again — this time with a very confused Dustin in the backseat.
“Okay what just happened? I thought Eddie was supposed to be doing all the talking as a part of your ‘deal’?” Dustin exclaimed, eyes darting between the two teens in the front seat.
“(Y/N) just wanted to make sure the kid wasn’t gonna be home alone. It’s not a big deal, Dustin.” For the second time that night, Eddie came to (Y/N)’s verbal rescue. (Y/N) looked in their rearview mirror to see a perplexed Dustin, but he seemed like his questions may have been done for the night. (Y/N) glanced over to the passenger side to see a smiling Eddie. They were used to seeing a smirk plastered on his face, but this one was more calm. Assuring, really. Without any thought, they returned it, smiling just enough to match his own.
“...Why are you two smiling? Is there something I don’t know about? Did Lucas say something about that one round? He did, didn’t he! Don’t tell me he told (Y/N) about my bow-” Dustin began rambling, convinced Lucas shared his failed attempt at attacking a Giant Lizard earlier that night. Eddie tried hard not to laugh, but ultimately failed, letting out a breathy chuckle that (Y/N) couldn’t help but reciprocate.
“Mind if I turn this up?” Eddie asked, gesturing towards the radio with another slight wheeze.
“Yeah, yeah of course. Be my guest.” (Y/N) laughed once more, shifting the car out of neutral and into drive. With the sun now almost fully set, (Y/N) zoomed off in the direction of the Henderson household.
Dropping off Dustin was easy, as (Y/N) had already gained a good reputation with Mrs. Henderson. They would normally be the one to pick up and drop off Dustin after any event, even giving him a ride home when it was raining and all the boy had was his bike. And rides for Dustin were looking scarce; Steve was busier than ever with dates and work, and Eddie always seemed a bit too intimidating; (Y/N) easily became a surrogate older sibling for the boy — and one that his mother particularly enjoyed the presence of.
With some small goodbyes, Eddie and (Y/N) returned to the car once more. The metalhead was quick to throw himself into the car, rubbing his hands together in a particularly animated way. (Y/N) promptly buckled, before looking over at their classmate.
“Forest Hills, right?” (Y/N) verified, not wanting to drive off in the wrong direction and seem stupid. “Uh yeah…Forest Hills.” Eddie shuffled in his seat, a change from his demeanor only moments prior.
“Do you know a Max Mayfield? Lives over there with her mom, bright red hair, skates a ton?” (Y/N) pondered, trying to lighten the mood up. “If not, that's cool. Small world and everything I figured it was worth a shot.”
“No, no I think I know her. There’s a girl with red hair that lives in the home right across from mine. She always has headphones on and shit?” Eddie asked in response, hoping they were talking about the same kid and he didn’t sound stupid right now.
“Yeah! That’s the one! Great kid really, hasn’t talked much this year since. Y’know…” They trailed off, not wanting to discuss the events of last summer. Even though Eddie didn’t know the worst of it, he still understood what (Y/N) was getting at. After their statement the car went silent besides the soft sounds of The Smiths rolling through the speakers.
Soon enough, they rolled into the trailer park, pebbles grinding under the tires of (Y/N)’s car. Eddie quickly unbuckled his seatbelt, opening the car door faster than (Y/N) could get a word out. “Thanks for the ride (Y/N), I owe you one.” He lightly closed their car door, remembering Mike’s recklessness with it earlier that night. Shoving his hands into his pockets, he began walking towards his front door.
‘Say something (Y/N).’ Their mind raced. ‘Come on do something before he goes inside!’
“Eddie!” (Y/N) called out, they had stepped out of their car and began walking towards him. Eddie was more confused than ever, he must’ve accidentally left something in (Y/N)’s car, right?
“I wanted to…thank you. For offering to come along tonight, and taking the blame for me. You’re a really nice guy, Eddie.” (Y/N) stammered, not quite sure if their words would come out right. “It’s really nothing, it was my fault anyways. Thanks for coming with me to those last two, they seemed to like seeing your pretty face more than this mug anyways.” Eddie shrugged, smiling at his own attempt at a compliment.
(Y/N) was caught entirely off guard. Here they were trying to thank Eddie for his kind actions, and he managed to spin it back on the flustered teen. They looked down at their beat up shoes with a soft smile tugging at their lips, glad they had decided to take Eddie up on his offer.
“Hey uh, if you ever need a ride or anything, I’m always available. I’m sure it gets tiring being a taxi for 14 year olds. Just let me know, gas is always on the house for you.” he began walking back towards his home, shooting (Y/N) his signature grin once more.
They wanted to say something, but a nod and smile was all they could muster before the long-haired boy closed the door behind himself. Maybe they would take him up on that offer — it would be nice to not pay for gas every once and a while. Plus, after tonight the head of Hellfire didn’t seem like such bad company. Stepping into their car, (Y/N) let out a long sigh.
“Goodnight, Eddie Munson.”

Top 10 Netflix Original Series
10. The Haunting of Bly Manor
Created by Mike Flanagan
Tumblr media
Full disclaimer, this series will break your heart. You will cry… a lot. It gets compared to Flanagan’s other instalment of The Haunting anthology, Hill House, because some fans were expecting this series to be just as scary. However, what people need to appreciate is that a haunting can mean a number of different things. While there are ghosts in this story, the series actually explores its characters being haunted by love. Bly Manor is a more gothic take on the horror genre, based on the novel The Turn of the Screw by Henry James, and follows a young au pair as she takes care of two young children who have recently suffered a tragic loss. As I said, it is utterly heartbreaking throughout, but it is an extremely beautiful series, so is worth the pain.
9. The Witcher
Created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich
Tumblr media
Since the series first aired, I have heard a number of people compare it to another TV fantasy epic, Game of Thrones. However, I think a much closer comparison would be to Lord of the Rings. This show is pure fantasy in the production design, the acting, and the characters themselves, which is no surprise given it was both a book and a video game before the series was made. We follow a witcher, Geralt of Rivia, on varying different quests, but with one ultimate goal. While he is, in a way, the titular character, the show also focuses on Yennefer, a powerful mage, and Ciri, a runaway Princess. The three characters are linked by destiny and must unite together. I definitely don’t think this will be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you appreciate fantasy then it doesn’t get much more genre-defining than this.
8. Sex Education
Created by Laurie Nunn
Tumblr media
This wonderfully quirky comedy has only gotten more popular with each new series, and rightly so. It is a very modern telling of the classic coming-of-age narrative, which is what gives the show its appeal. We see the lives and relationships of teenagers as they figure out becoming young adults. However, we also follow their parents and how they cope with raising hormonal teenagers whilst dealing with their own trials and tribulations. Each character, even the least likeable ones, have something about them that makes you root for them. While romance is undeniably the central focus of the show, it is actually the beautiful and unexpected friendships which shine through. This is a loveable and uplifting show, certain to put you in a good mood.
7. Glow

Unfortunately, this glorious show got cancelled right in the middle of its prime, but the three seasons that are available are nothing short of brilliant. With a spectacular ensemble of women leading this talented cast, carrying scenes filled with hilarity and drama equally, there's nothing this show doesn't have. I mean, come one, women wrestlers... in the 80s... what more could you want? The show has some really interesting commentary of the politics of the era, and of the acting industry in relation to gender and race, and it's all mixed in seamlessly with immensely funny comedy. Oh, and as if it couldn't get any cooler, it is based off a real 80s wrestling show of the same name. I am seriously going to need another network to pick this show up, because it is such a sore loss for TV now that it's gone.
6. Squid Game
Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk
Tumblr media
No introduction needed for this smash hit. That being said, if you have been living under a rock this past year, the story follows Gi-hun, a divorced father who is having major money problems and is offered the opportunity to win a fortune by playing school games… with a dark twist. This one is for all you gore lovers out there. However, it isn’t all about the horror, as the series also creates the perfect narrative for the topic of economic struggle, addiction in all its forms, and the unexpected bonds the different players form as the series develops. This show is not for the faint of heart, and definitely not for children. Be prepared to dry your tears.
5. Midnight Mass
Created by Mike Flanagan
Tumblr media
Another absolute knock out by Mike Flanagan, this series is a wonderfully unique take on the supernatural. Without giving too much away, the story takes place on a very small island where everyone knows everyone. When a new priest arrives, strange happenings occur which puts people’s religious faith into question. There are a number of other central themes and plot lines, but religion is at the forefront of everyone’s lives on the island. With an unquestionable standout performance from Hamish Linklater as the priest, this series is quite the breath of fresh air for the narrative of religion and supernatural myths. I truly believe Mike Flanagan can do no wrong, so there is nothing to lose in watching this very intriguing series.
4. The Good Place
Created by Michael Schur
Tumblr media
Life’s ultimate question - “where do we go when we die?” - gets an interesting answer with this hilarious, beautiful series. We follow a group of unassuming misfits who find themselves in ‘The Good Place’ following their respective deaths, however, one person doesn’t believe she belongs there. This show perfectly encapsulates the ethics of life in a wonderfully eccentric way, filled with unlikely friendships, excellent plot twists, and a remarkable cast. The thing that I love and respect most about this show, is that it didn’t overstay its welcome. With a humble four seasons, it tells its story wonderfully and doesn’t feel like it is filled with anything unnecessary. The cast have an adorable chemistry fit a comedy of this style, portraying characters that you instantly fall in love with. 10/10 would recommend.
3. Orange is the New Black
Created by Jenji Kohan
Tumblr media
This is yet another series that needs no introduction for Netflix fanatics. With a long run to boast about, and numerous awards in its name, Orange is the New Black will be on people’s radar for many years to come. If you have yet to watch the series, we follow many different characters and their time in women’s federal prison. The cast is a large ensemble oozing with talent in both comedy and drama alike, with the series’ main genre being a large debate topic during its run. While it has many funny moments, there is no denying that this series is pure drama, with many emotional storylines littered throughout. If you give this one a go, you’ll have diverse characters to fall in love with, and a handful of wonderful “villains” to hate too. Entertainment all round.
2. The Queen's Gambit
Created by Scott Frank & Allan Scott
Tumblr media
Firstly, I highly recommend reading the book of the same name, written by Walter Tevis. In doing this, it will greatly increase your appreciation for this series, not that it isn’t exquisite without reading the book. I highly doubt I’m the only person who fell in love with chess while following the protagonist, Beth Harmon, and her love for the game. I still don’t understand the rules at all, but I see a beauty to it now that I didn’t before. Never have I been more surprised to be so invested in a series. It left me very pleasantly surprised, with a wonderful ensemble led by Anya Taylor-Joy. There is only one word to describe it - perfection.
1. The Haunting of Hill House
Created by Mike Flanagan
Tumblr media
The predecessor to the aforementioned Bly Manor, The Haunting of Hill House is one of the most well-structured and beautifully told stories I have ever seen. Based on the book of the same name by Shirley Jackson, this interpretation tells the heartbreaking story of a family torn apart by their haunted house. While it is, primarily, a ghost story, the series underlying focus is on how the house effects each member of the Crain family throughout their lives, even after moving away. It aptly represents mental illness and the effects of childhood trauma, and wraps it up neatly in a paranormal horror story, with stunning performances by the entire cast. If you’re looking for a good scare and a good cry, give this amazing series a watch.
