The Witcher: Sirens of The Deep Trailer
Human sailors are being attacked by creatures of the deep and only Geralt of Rivia can stop the brewing war between the humans on the land and the people of the sea.
The Witcher: Sirens of The Deep is based on Andrzej Sapkowski's "A Little Sacrifice." The animated movie takes place between episodes 5 and 6 of The Witcher season 1. The film stars the voice talents of Doug Cockle (Geralt), Anya Chalotra (Yennefer), Joey Batey (Jaskier), and Christina Wren (Essi Davis) and is directed by Kang Hei Chul from a screenplay by Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin. Animation is by Studio MIR.
The Witcher: Sirens of The Deep releases on Netflix on February 11, 2025.

sirens of the deep interview about geralt x essi and yenralt:
Essi is described as "bubbly, bright, and very extroverted" by co-writer Rae Benjamin […] the complete opposite of Yen's "brooding and tortured" demeanor.
For fellow writer Mike Ostrowski, she represents "the road not taken", someone who "on its face, makes more sense than Yen."
While The Witcher executive producer Lauren Hissrich said the mainline show made the decision that "Geralt would never really stray from Yen again" after the first season, she points to Geralt's wandering adventures in Sapkowski's books as a rich vein of storytelling still to mine. "So we thought this was a great way to pay homage to how Geralt was after he met Yen, but before they became what we now know them as, which is lovers who have become each other’s family," Hissrich says.

Marsh Rabbit, Wakodahatchee Wetlands, Palm Beach County, Florida, USA
Marsh rabbits look like their Eastern cottontail cousins but are slightly smaller and lack the fluffy white tail. They are almost always found near bodies of water. Water not only provides marsh rabbits with many plants to eat, but it also helps keep them safe from predators. When threatened, they dive into the water and swim away. photograph by Mike Ostrowski | Flickr CC

Do you know of any good books about the German SPD and (more specifically) its decision in choosing to support the German war effort in WWI? Mike Duncan dedicated an episode in his Revolutions podcast to the collapse of the Second Internationale, and I'm interested in learning more.
This is a great question! I'm going to dig through my reading lists and do some updating, because I have done a fair bit of reading on the SPD and to some extent on the War Credits issue.
Here's where I would start:
One Hundred Years of Socialism by Donald Sassoon. The classic text in the field, and has a very good account of the development of the SPD.
The work of Sheri Berman, who does comparative social democracy (with a particular focus on the German SPD and the Swedish SAP). Her two big books here are The Primacy of Politics and The Social Democratic Moment, but a lot of her articles will be useful.
Ostrowski's edited volumes of Eduard Bernstein's writings would be very useful, since Bernstein was one of the major intellectual forces in the SPD and wrote on the war credits issue.
Roger Fletcher's articles on Bernstein's foreign policy views are also probably useful here.
I suppose you should also read Hudis' edited volumes of Rosa Luxemburg's writings, since she was one of Bernstein's most trenchant critics - especially on the War Credits issue.
The Second International and the Question of War by Eve Pech, which I imagine Duncan had on his reading list.
Talbot Imlay's The Practice of Socialist Internationalism is also a good text for this question.

I Dettagli
“The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep” è prodotto dallo Studio MIR, noto per lavori come “The Legend of Korra” e “Voltron: Legendary Defender” su Netflix.

Witcher Writers Appreciation
Now I know that a lot of people work under the impression that Lauren Hissrich is the one writing every episode but there’s actually quite a few amazing writers of the songs and episodes we see in the Witcher that don’t get nearly enough appreciation and credit. So without further ado, here’s some of the lovely writers putting in the work for the show:
Sneha Koorse
S1E5 Bottled Appetites
S2E4 Redanian Intelligence
Matthew D'Ambrosio
S2E6 Dear Friend
Haily Hall
S1E6 Rare Species
S2E5 Turn Your Back
Lyrics to “Her Sweet Kiss”
Declan De Barra
S2E4 Of Banquets, Bastards, and Burials
S2E1 A Grain of Truth
Lyrics to Song of the White Wolf
Lyrics to The Fishmonger's Daughter
Lyrics to The Last Rose of Cintra
Beau DeMayo
S1E3 Betrayer Moon
S2E2 Kaer Morhen
Mike Ostrowski
S1E7 Before a Fall
S2E7 Voleth Meir
Jenny Klein
S1E2 Four Marks
Lyrics to You Think You're Safe
Lyrics to Toss A Coin To Your Witcher
Bonus: I wanted to see which Writer wrote Burn Butcher Burn turns out it was Joey Batey himself working alongside one of the show’s composers Joe Trapanese
#All these people are very talented!!#like it makes perfect sense that the writer of her sweet kiss wrote turn your back#etc etc#the witcher#twn#appreciation#netflix#myposts

Animal of the Day!
Palo Verde Beetle (Derobrachus hovorei)
Conservation Status- Unlisted
Habitat- Southwestern United States
Size (Weight/Length)- 8.9 cm
Diet- Nectar; Fruit; Tree roots
Cool Facts- The Palo Verde beetle is a friendly and welcome sight with their appearance hopefully bringing monsoons with them. These massive beetles spend the majority of their lives underground as larvae. Eating through tree roots, they can be considered pests but are helpful in eliminating sick trees. In the summer, the Palo Verde beetle emerges from the ground as an adult and looks for a mate. While able to fly, they are particularly clumsy and often fall off trees and are not the best fliers. Capable of biting while threatened, the adult Palo Verde beetle does not eat and dies only a few weeks after emerging and mating.
Rating- 13/10 (Trust me, they just want a friend.)

some quotes from rae benjamin on sirens of the deep:
"I was an assistant on The Witcher. I got the movie before I got staffed on The Witcher, actually. Season 2 of The Witcher, I was script coordinator and between seasons 2 and 3, my boss asked me if I wanted to write this movie, co-write the movie with Mike Ostrowski who is co-executive producer on The Witcher as well and a great writer. […] I already worked on the show and my boss liked my writing. She knew I had experience writing animated content. I had made an animated web series a few years ago and my boss enjoyed that. She knew I enjoyed animation, so she just asked if I wanted to co-write that with another writer on the show."
"It was actually my design background, and I used to do illustration, too, was crucial because I was able to pull a lot of references and speak in more of a visual language that I don't think my co-writer, he didn't necessarily have because he didn't go to art school and doesn't know how to talk about these things. So I think it was really helpful that, y'know, I remember one scene, for example, it just felt very dull because everything was sort of monochromatic in, like, blues. Everything was just shades of blue. And I could say, "It needs some contrast." I could say these things 'cause I know about art, so that was cool. And like I said, pulling reference images and doing all of that, I felt really fulfilled. On The Witcher, as a writer, because I'm not the showrunner, there's a team of writers, so a lot of things get changed from my initial draft of the episode to what you see on tv. There's gonna be so many edits. But for the animated film, it's basically what we wrote is what ended up on screen. And also because I'm a producer of that as well, so it was just really great to see."

For the artist ask game, #4 and #9? <3
Ooh thank you for the ask! You picked two really hard ones huh lol
4— Fav artist(s)/Idol(s)
I don't idolize anyone. I don't have the brain space to do so. I mean, you know, besides looking at great masters like Hayao Miyazaki and being like "wow, holy shit."
As for fav artists... siiigh. I have many. Mostly bound to their fandom art. But very often I don't know their name at all, unless they're forever on my dash. I will love the art, often recognise the style, but I wouldn't be able to recall their name when asked like this. I struggle SO MUCH with names IRL already, so online I don't even try.
Don't get me started on arts I saved like precious gems and whose artist I never could track down.
Off the top of my head, I'm a big fan of Claire Wendling, Nagabe Sensei, Alexander Ostrowski... That's not touching comic artists, though special mention to Mike Mignola, the man behind the original Hellboy comics, whose drawing of a frog I have tattooed on my arm!!
Artists on tumblr? @dappermouth @nim-lock @hellyeahpancakes @aromansoul @kundool @yarpell @feefal @canisalbus @cobaltbeam and @hcnnibal are all absolute stars whose work always has me mesmerized and starring *intently*. This is not, of course, even close to an exhaustive list, and I'm 100% coasting on the hope they're all far too popular to notice my @ (please I beg of you, don't perceive me rudely @'ing you like this I'm sorry)
I follow too many artists and get wow'ed too often.
9— Best compliment you've got
Another very hard one. I don't have an answer for you! I've drawn almost all my life, mostly in a pretty hostile family environment. Tumblr and my recent return to art via digital has been a golden era for praise and compliments, but nothing jumps to my mind, like with comments in writing.
When people say they love an art piece and appreciate X or Y in it, it's lovely, it's gratifying, it makes it all worth it. But there's not as much of a connection as when you've told a story and the commenter is going like
with you.
I guess comments on art are always a little more ephemeral than on writing, the same way appreciation of art is often... quicker or more superficial. I guess as artist and art consumer, we spend less time "together" than if you sit down and commit to spend 6 months with me reading my monster fic as I publish it.
I love all the comments I get! None stand out particularly, is all xD
Thanks a lot, that was fun!!

Ahead of its series debut on Dec. 20, “The Witcher” has been renewed for Season 2 at Netflix, the streaming service announced on Wednesday.
The second season of the Henry Cavill-led fantasy series will begin production in London early in 2020, for a planned debut in 2021, according to Netflix. Like the first season, Season 2 will also consist of eight episodes.
Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will also return for the next batch of episodes, as will executive producers Tomek Baginski, Jason F. Brown, Sean Daniel, Mike Ostrowski, Steve Gaub and Jarosław Sawko. Directors and additional cast information will be announced at a later date, Netflix said.
“I’m so thrilled that before fans have even seen our first season, we are able to confirm that we’ll be returning to The Continent again to continue telling the stories of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri,” Hissrich said.
