🔒 (48 hours outside of TM? Doing TM tasks? It’s up to you 😎)
🔒- which taskmaster contestant would you choose to be handcuffed to for 48 hours?
Oh heck - 48hrs? That means:
Going to the toilet?!
Eating meals (one handed I suppose)
Sleeping, probably!
I'd get a bit smelly because oh heck I'm not showering/stripping I don't think?!
Assuming we can't get the handcuffs undone by any means, ofc.
There are definitely contestants that are a hard NO. Folks that have that angry edge to them, or who I think wouldn't suffer fools gladly, or who would get real grumpy after the first 3 hrs. Josh Widdicombe for example, or Lou Sanders - both on my very nope list.
A shortlist:
Mel Geidroic might be a good one - she is, after all, incredibly nice, with the added bonus of probably having already seen everything there is to see and not being especially bothered about it.
Victoria Coren Mitchell would tear me a new one, of course - not suffering fools gladly - but she'd be just so very practical about it, I'm not sure I'd mind. She might help me get my life in order, in fact. I could imagine her going "Oh for goodness sakes - just make the phonecall. Look, I'll type in the number..."
Tempted to go for Ivo Graham, just to see how his brain works, but I think the poor man would have a breakdown. Not that I'm especially difficult to be around, I don't think - just that I imagine Ivo would turn into a pretzel over the awkwardness of the situation.
Sophie Duker is too cool to be handcuffed to me, but if we were, I'd want to go on a 48hr escape room bender with her. I think that'd be hilarious and by hour 20 we'd be an absolute mess.
Lastly, maybe Mike Wozniak or Richard Osman for "terribly lovely seeming men who'd likely try to work with me to make it as smooth as possible" - I think they'd also be fantastic to chat to with great conversation.
Final answer - Sophie Duker, but only if she's up for the escape room thing (or equally fun days out). Otherwise VCM with the hope that she'd show me how to be a proper grown up!

Official Report on The Intransitionalist Chronotopologies of Kenji Siratori (TRS 109)
YOU CANNOT ESCAPE THE INEFFABLE FOREST
youtube
Official Report on The Intransitionalist Chronotopologies of Kenji Siratori: Appendix 8.2.3 is a xenopoetic data/dada anthology that documents the activities of the artist collective The Ministry of Transrational Research into Anastrophic Manifolds. The anthology results from an experimental approach to impersonal literary composition. Similar to surrealist definitions, but on the scale of a technical document, members of the Ministry—poets, musicians, novelists, painters, curators, artists, scientists, philosophers, and physicians—were asked to offer a microfiction, poem, essay, fictional citation, or computer code, in the form of a footnote or annotation to a glitch-generated novel by iconoclastic Japanese artist Kenji Siratori; however, each participant wrote their contribution without any access to or knowledge about the nature of Siratori’s source text. After collecting the contributions, the “footnotes” were each algorithmically linked to an arbitrary word from Siratori’s novel. The result is a work of xenopoetic emergence: a beautifully absurd, alien document scintillating with strange potency. Bringing together algorithmically and AI-generated electronic literature with analogue collage and traditional modes of literary composition, the Ministry refuses to commit solely to digital, automated, or analogue art and instead seeks technological mutualism and a radically alien future for the arts. Accompanied by a groundbreaking original score by electro-acoustic duo Wormwood, the anthology offers the radical defamiliarization and weird worlds of science fiction, but now the strangeness bites back on the level form. Readers should expect to discover strange portals from which new ways of thinking, feeling, and being emerge. A conceptual and experimental anthology, Official Report on The Intransitionalist Chronotopologies of Kenji Siratori inaugurates collective xenopoetic writing and the conceit that the future of art will consist of impersonal acts of material emergence, not personal expression. Consume with caution.

ok now i wanna hear about everyone else's brit celebrity crushes.....
now THIS is the ask i was always meant to answer
lucifer: david mitchell, not necessarily because he finds him attractive, but because he respects david's dedication to being a Normal Man. also greg davies, and this time it is because he thinks he's hot
mammon: aisling bea, jess knappett, ed gamble (if you have seen any of them on taskmaster you'll understand why. mammon would watch jess fall off the stage and fall in love)
levi: charlotte ritchie and lolly adefope because they're just lovely, also noel fielding because he's a weirdo
satan: peter capaldi (as i've said), but tbh it'd be anyone who's ever played the doctor - the doctor as a character just massively appeals to him. tragic morally-grey fast-talking smart-ass? take him already. also richard osman (he likes a smart guy)
asmo: bruno tonioli off strictly, josh widdicombe (he thinks he's cute), and also greg davies again
beel: gordon ramsay. you understand why. (also not so much a crush but i feel he'd be super endeared by how bewildered johnny vegas was for his entire taskmaster run)
belphie: katy wix because she's just very chill and sweet, and rose matafeo because she's cool. also peter capaldi again
diavolo: i've already said claudia winkleman, but also mel giedroyc. i think he'd just have a soft spot for sweet but also slightly chaotic middle-aged women
barbatos: i was going to jokingly say paul hollywood from bake-off but i hate that man so much i can't even bring myself to do it. so instead i'm going to say rob brydon, because barbatos finds his little impressions endearing
simeon: bob mortimer and mike wozniak for their down-to-earth charm, and also joe lycett for his flamboyancy
solomon: hugh dennis and rhod gilbert (he just thinks they're attractive), sara pascoe (she's funny)
#answering asks#anon asks#these are mostly people i've seen on panel shows lol#you'll notice i've excluded celebs such as harry styles. this is deliberate#i don't like him

Hi! TM ask! 10 & 17?
10. If you could pick any old contestants to come back for a special, who would they be?
Ohh I do always enjoy this question, as it changes slightly fairly often. At the moment, it's Richard Osman, Mike Wozniak, Nish Kumar, Rose Matafeo, and Judi Love.
17. Critique your favourite series, and compliment your least favourite series.
Series 10 is my favourite. My main critique is that there wasn't a capable contestant in the whole series. Which did lead to some funny moments, but it does make things interesting to have contestants with a range of usefulness. I can really see why people don't like it.
Series 8 is probably my least favourite. But it does have my favourite task of all time, which was the hide and seek one in the train station/train yard. It just looked so fun to do, and really showed the contestants personalities.

Ranking Every Taskmaster Contestant*
Just a list I’ve worked on for the last few years in my drafts and never published, because why would anyone bother to do this without write-ups or statistics, without ever being asked to do it in the first place? But, it’s time to just get it out there.
Basically I judged this on: were they fun to watch, did they bring a character to the show I enjoyed, did they seem to enjoy it themselves, or did they seem to care at all?
I noticed a few patterns. My least favorite seem to be the women who showed up and didn’t really have any familiarity with the show or any interest in competing. Just up from there is a grouping of hapless middle-aged men who I felt weird watching as they failed.
On the other hand, if they were too competitive, I didn’t appreciate that, either. I feel bad putting Ed Gamble down at #20—I listen to him on two podcasts, but he was way too aggressively competitive in Taskmaster. It’s also part of why Iain Sterling, who otherwise would’ve had a higher spot on the list just by nature of being Scottish, but he really made an ass of himself throughout Series 8.
Bias is probably the reason my #1 is my #1. A major theme of many of my top favorites seems to be that they are lanky, smart-dumbass types.
I know there are several people will disagree with me on. Would love to hear what y’all think!
Anyway, here it is, updated through season 14.

2022 Book Wrap!
In total I read 29 books this year meaning I was only 1 book of my reading goal of 30. That is okay thought because this year I really got back into reading and considering last year I read about 14!
Books I read:
The Turn of the Screw - Henry James
The World's Greatest Miracle - Og Mandino
The Thursday Murder Club - Richard Osman
Where the Crawdads Sing - Delia Owens
The Haunting of Hill House - Shirley Jackson
The woman in Black - Susan Hill
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen
The Man Who Died Twice - Richard Osman
The Girls I've Been - Tess Sharpe
As Good as Dead - Holly Jackson
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo - Taylor Jenkins Reid
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine - Gail Honeyman
How to Tell if Your Cat is Plotting to Kill You - The Oatmeal
Heartstopper - Alice Osrman
The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald
Trial by Fire - Josephine Angelini
Firewalker - Josephine Angelini
Witches Pyre - Josephine Angelini
Midnight Sun - Stephanie Meyer
New Moon - Stephanie Meyer
Eclipse - Stephanie Meyer
The Candid Life of Meena Dave - Namrata Patel
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes - Suzanne Collins
One Last Stop - Casey McQuiston
Daisy Jones and the Six - Taylor Jenkins Reid
The Perks of Being a Wallflower - Stephen Chbosky
Little women - Louisa May Alcott
Good wives - Lousia May Alcott
The Bullet that Missed - Richard Osman
My 5 top books of the year that weren't rereads are probably The Woman in Black, Midnight Sun, The Candid Life of Meena Dave, Daisy Jones and the Six, and One Last stop.
The Woman in Black is my new favourite horror book ever. It made me feel so unsettled (my imagination is very active) and had me peeking around corners before exiting a room incase the Woman in black was waiting for me. The plot twist at the end really got me as I genuinely thought that he had broken the curse but wow. It was sick but also amazing and I couldn't read anything for a few days once I finished it because I was still hooked.
Funnily enough Midnight Sun is in my top 5. I know alot of people disliked this book because it was too similar to Twilight but I really enjoyed it. I love how we really get to see Edwards character more in depth. What I loved is how dramatic he was and how funny he was. My favourite part was when Mike was speaking to Bella and Edwards decides to be the most dramatic man ever and start thinking about how he could just kill Mike. So silly.
The Candid Life of Meena Dave is incredible. I love the characters, especially the dog! The romance in this book was so cute and I loved how Patel didn't make Meena have her whole life and story revolve around Sam after meeting him. It didn't just focus on love but also on Meena trying to find herself before even thinking about getting into a relationship. Was an amazing read that had me kicking my feet.
Now at first I didn't like Daisy Jones and the Six because of how it was written. But then I grew to love it with my whole heart. I wanted to learn how to pkay bass guitar before reading this book but after it made me get up and actually learn. I'm so glad Reid didn't glamorise or romanticise drugs because drugs quite literally almost ruined Billy's life. I loved seeing how he changed and dealt with everything. Anyway I'm so excited for the show to come out in March!
Finally, One Last Stop, arguably my favourite overall this year. THIS REALLY HAD ME KICKING MY LEGS IT WAS SO CUTE. I think I also fell in love with Jane. When I say this book had me crying I mean actually sobbing. The end had me facing so many emotions. I don't even have the words to say how much I love this book.
I reread quite a few books too. My top 5 were definitely the Worldwalker Trilogy (Trial by Fire, Firewalker and Witches Pyre), The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Little Women. These 5 books are my comfort books. Every single one of them has broken spines and damaged covers because of the amount of times I've read them. I highly HIGHLY recommend them, especially the Worldwalker trilogy and anything by Josephine Angelini. The trilogy has my ultimate book crush, Rowan Fall, too! So underrated definetly go read it!
Anyway, that is everything I have to say about this year. Its a shame I only had one book left to read but I'll achieve it next year!

This is all amazing advice and I just want to add something. If you're in the pre-capeable of hope phase which I spent a lot of time in, if you're utterly hopeless that the world is going to change terribly very soon, then may I offer you the mindset of "enjoy it while stocks last"
Across England the arts are being defunded more and more every year leading to an eventual total collapse in the quality and quantity, but RIGHT NOW there are loads of cool art exhibitions/plays/music events going on for vv cheap/free. The future may be entirely Richard Osman books and Mike Bartlett plays, so I should go to a shit ton of these while I still can.
Climate change means that the woods I loved as a child have a life span of, idk, fifteen years left? That's devastating. Im going to go and visit the bluebell glades as often as I can while stocks last.
I can no longer afford my own place. I'm moving back in with my parents. It's horrible. So every day, after I've finished packing, I go on long walks around all the parts of the neighborhood I've loved for three years. Enjoy it while stocks last.
Eventually you will probably meet people through loving these things who also love these things, and maybe you can band together and do something about that and follow all the advice above. But sometimes you've got to do the step between. If you know Rome is going to burn tomorrow, that's the best time to go sightseeing.
