Temptation Is The Greatest Sin
Rating M (Mature)
@dnrarepairweek
Pairing: Mikami Teru / Stephen Gevanni/Loud (Mikavanni)
Tags: First dates, Religious imagery and symbolism, religious guilt, sinning, Temptation, implied sexual content, Suicidal thoughts, Implied/referenced suicide.
word count: 4,103
Mikami had grown tired of being a soldier, he loves his God, but even when you love God you still sin. Falling to Lust and Temptation is something that Teru isn't accustomed to, but maybe for this blue eyed Government agent with a fake name will be worth dying in the name of sin for.
Written for Death Note Rarepair Week 2025 day 4 : Temptation | Angst
Warning: This work contains many references to biblical figures and religious symbols, as the author isn't religious in any way If I offend, or butcher a Proverb or meaning something please correct me. This work also includes references to suicide, and also a Explict sex scene is thought of, and written for a sec. Please stay safe, and correct me if needed. <3
A temptation becomes a sin when it is drawn away by one's own lust and enticed, and then desire, when it has conceived, gives birth to sin.
Mikami Teru didn't sin, he was the holiest man in this cruel sad world. Second only to his God of course, Light Yagami sure as hell was the holiest being to ever exist. He surpassed the God who created the universe ten fold, because he never promised to not eradicate the slum of the earth again.
He didn't grovel to the wants of men, he didn't care for humans. He cared for the world, one of his creation. If you told Mikami that Light actually was the one to make the world, universe, and all around. He would believe you.
He was a disciple of his God, he was his god's toy, his soldier. He would sacrifice everything and anything for the other man. He would die for him, over and over again. He would kill for him, as he has for months now.
And this was another hurdle to prove his undying loyalty. The man who was obviously not named Gevanni, Stephen Loud was what the red letters on top of his head said.
A date that was far in the future also bled into the name, he was one of the SPK people that Kira had said were coming. He had been watching him for a few days now. Following him to work, to the gym, home. It was either a government member, or a really creepy perv.
Thank Kira that he was just working with L.
"Hi," the man greeted, coming from the changing rooms, fully dressed in a suit. "You're Mikami Teru right? The lawyer that was on Kiyomi Takada's Kira show right?" The man was fiddling with his tie, an annoying shade of red.
"Prosecutor, and yes, what of it?" He asked, crossing his arms over his chest, and leaning against a piece of workout equipment. Sure he had expected that the man would follow him home again, but not come up to him.
"Oh, I was just wondering if you would..." The man faltered in his words, looking down at his shoes like it was a large ask, which he for sure was going to be declined of. "Um, you would like to go to dinner with me?"
Mikami was sure what he had just heard, even with the others obviously american background, he had a really good understanding of Mikami's native language. And that was unfortunate, because oh how much Teru hoped that this was a simple language barrier.
He was the one faltering now. What was Stephen's end goal with this? A way into the prosecutor's head, a way into his bed, maybe to give him some leeway? Or make him drop a secret that would secure Light's death penalty, his his rotting in a prison forever.
As he was about to decline, with a simple 'I'm not into guys,' which was a bold ass lie. He thought about it. Maybe this would aid his God, if he ended up getting interpersonal info into the L side of this war. Then maybe Kira would reward him, with maybe general status. Or being able to see him for more than a few minutes a week.
"Sure, I could go for dinner, when?" He put a tone to his voice, which made him sound eager, happy to be approached by the stranger. "Oh, I was thinking tonight, like right now." Stephen said, looking a little anxious, as if the man would decline his offer.
"Well, I didn't have anything planned tonight anyways, might as well spend it with you, huh?" He asked. Mikami was good at pretending to be naive, to be submissive. He really was, the second one, not the first one. He was not Naive. And if he really wanted, he could have this man in his bed before they exited the gym.
That's something that He's always been able to do. After his mother died, and he lived by himself, he had to make due. Harvard tuition is expensive, even on a scholarship. He knew what made men tick, especially these kinds of men.
Anxious, and scared. Mikami had no problem pretending like he didn't see the obvious outline of a gun at Stephen's waist. He could act stupid all he wanted. But it got to a point. A breaking point. This man hadn't reached that just yet, but Mikami had the sneaking suspicion that he would at some point of the night.
"How about a cafe, I know one that's open this late." Stephen offered. So he was dominant, he liked offering things. He liked Mikami agreeing with him. So Mikami nodded, letting the man lead him out of the gym and to the cafe which Mikami had only heard of on TV once or twice.
The thought that the man could be setting him up for an ambush hit Teru a little late. He immediately looked on roof tops for snipers. Or people watching. All he found was a small balcony at the apartment complex next door. A woman smoking a cigarette sat on a chair facing the complex on the other side.
They made eye contact long enough to see that neither of them had anything to do with the other. Mikami proceeded cautiously. He really shouldn't have agreed to what the other man offered, he shouldn't have been caught on the other man's territory.
The cafe itself wasn't bad. It was small in comparison to some Starbucks that Teru had been in. But it was quiet. Only two people where there was a blonde woman at the front of the store who greeted them with a smile, and a broad shouldered gentleman, who had grey streaks through his blonde hair.
They were both American. Either this shop was American ran, or these two were members of the SPK along with Stephen. Mikami almost cracked a laugh at the sight, the three all trying to act like they didn't know each other. They did it horribly, and Teru saw right through them. But he played along.
They were seated, and Mikami ordered a decaf coffee, saying that it was a little late for caffeine, and a muffin. Stephen ordered a black coffee, with a Strawberry Danish. That was definitely a code word for something. The movement of the woman's eyebrows, and how she looked Teru over after.
He didn't know what it meant, but it wasn't good. It probably meant that he for sure knew he was a Kira. And that he was close to cracking it, or maybe it meant that Mikami was completely innocent. Teru chose not to think about such things, and pay attention to the date.
"So, what's your name?" Teru asked, he made sure that he asked this first, because if he didn't, and he let a name slip. That would up the Kira percentage by 10 fold.
"Gevanni," the man answered in a fast tone. Like he was saying it from memory, that's not how people with their names. They don't think about it, it's natural. But not that natural. He would know the name was fake even if he didn't have the eyes.
"That's a nice name, is it Italian?" He asks, he knows it's Italian, he's just making conversation. "Yes, my mother was Italian, and chose to give me my grandfather's name." That was definitely practiced.
This was fun, he was actually having a good time. It was like he was in court, but instead of talking to a jury, he was just talking to the witness. Just the two of them. Or the defendant. He loved knowing people's tells, that's what made him such a good lawyer.
"What do you do for work?" Government work. "I'm a civil servant in America." Check. "Why are you in Japan then?" With a friend. "Visiting a childhood friend." "What region do they live in?" Kansai. "Kansai."
"Why did you want to become a lawyer?" The question came out of the man's mouth like it was asking how the weather was out today.
Mikami was stunned for a second, he had been asked this a whole bunch of times. Mainly from reporters, much like Kiyomi. But he was a little taken aback by the question from the other. In what way does his want to be a lawyer aid L in any way?
It was to measure his sense of justice. If he said that he wanted to do good in his world, that would fuck this up. He had to say something that he wholeheartedly didn't agree with. The thing that most of the nepo babies and spoiled brats which got excepted to Harvard Law because of connections, and bribes.
They never had to work for anything. Pay for anything, deal with loss that couldn't be fixed with a paycheck. A sense of order and justice so far that you don't flinch when your own mother dies. To the point that you giggle under you breath as she's up into the ground.
"Well, I didn't grow up with much. My father died in the military when I was young, so it was me and my mom. I'm an orphan now, and I started Law so that I wouldn't have to live like that anymore." TL;DR, Money.
Stephen, or Gevanni, nodded to this. His expression said that he's obviously thinking this over. That was when Mikami actually looked at the Caucasian man. He actually wasn't that bad looking. Eye candy to some kinds of men.
He had dark hair, which seemed to be dyed, from a speck of blonde peaking from his roots. It was cut weird, so a few parts of his bangs mingled with his eyes. Which were a very bright ice blue. Mikami always had liked red a little more than blue. But he knew how to appreciate a good shade.
Maybe a night with the man wasn't the worst idea, the best way to get to a man's head was through his bed. And maybe, he wouldn't have a horrible time, maybe he could slip a little bit, fall to a little sin.
No, what was he thinking? Depriving Kira's image like this, sinning in the name of his lord. He wouldn't fall to temptation, even if it seemed promising, and this was something that would hurt his God. Even by a little bit, knowing that his most loyal soldier got into bed with L's most loyal soldier. That he didn't need Kira, at least to make Light think that.
He would always need Kira. Kira was his life force, and the moment that his image was tarnished, or Kira's god status was tampered with, Teru would lose that Life force. But he also wanted Kira to need him as well. To realize that Teru didn't have to work under him, that he was strong, and powerful enough to make his own choices.
He wanted Kira to hurt, to ache. To always have the inkling of a feeling that Teru always would have the option to flip the switch on him. That he could always find a new god, in a heartbeat.
These were lies, lying is a sin. And Mikami Teru doesn't lie, to his God that is. He could lie to himself until the cows came home if he so pleased.
"That makes sense," the other man muttered under his breath. Teru was taken a little aback by this, he had been thinking of what the other man's orgasm face looked like. And he had forgotten his previous comment.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Teru asks, keeping his tone light. Play along, and you'll get whatever you want in this world. That was one thing that his mother told him that he would live by for the rest of his life.
"Well, I mean you do seem to like material things," Gevanni stated, looking at Teru's suit and watch. "No offence of course, I like your style." He must have seen the look on the other man's face, and chose to fix what he had just said.
Teru does like material things. That wasn't an issue, it was that Stephen pointed such out, kinda like he was wanting a fight. Remember that point that Mikami said that Stephen would get him at tonight. We're getting there faster than expected.
The other man saved himself with the compliment at the end of the statement. As long as you say no offence at the end of a sentence that makes whatever out of pocket thing that you said acceptable. That was complete and utter bullshit, 'no offence' is just a way to say that you don't have the balls to stand behind the shit you just talked.
But placing a complement at the end of the phrase did help a bit. And especially that tone that he used when he was saying it. That was hot. Kinda like how Mikami was beginning to feel under the collar in the small cafe.
The conversation flowed from that, they talked about work, hobbies, and family. The normal first date outline to get a possible call back in a few weeks. That wasn't happening. Actually, maybe it was. Kira did say something about the fact that a standoff was near in the future. Pun intended.
The new L's name was Near. That was a kinda dumb name, and Mikami really would understand how dumb in their standoff in the yellow warehouse. Near was just two letters of his first name, N and A, and two letters from his last name, R and E. Nate River.
That was irrelevant to the conversation. Stephen had brought up past relationships, sharing that he had a fiance a few years ago. And Mikami chose to talk about Light. He made sure to make sure that his lie made something legal by going too far back in time so according to Mikami;
He and a guy met a few years back, four to be exact. At an apple orchard, in Akita. And they hit it off, the man had just recently lost his boyfriend to a heart attack, he was mourning, and Mikami helped him through it. They moved in together soon, the man was a cop, so they worked close together. Whenever his boyfriend cheated on Teru, he left with a blonde woman, who was also a very talented writer. That was were their relationship ended.
If you didn't pick up the meaning of the story, Teru had just laid everything out for Stephen to pick up. Kira's identity was something that they could use. Teru was sure they already had his name, but Teru was in a gift-giving kind of mood that night.
Teru hoped that would be enough to at least get Misa. Teru really didn't like her, and she couldn't stand even the thought of Teru. Actually, they had met one time, and when Kira left the area she told him, "If you even think about ever touching my boyfriend, I will fucking skin you, you goddamn Faggot."
It was a true threat, didn't mean it didn't piss him off any less.
"I'm sorry to hear that," Stephen said, looking actually a little fucking sorry. Like he was convinced that Mikami wasn't just pulling some story out of his ass. Mikami didn't like dumb people, but he did like people who trusted him.
And obviously, the other man trusted him. Teru kinda wanted Stephen to trust him, the only way to get what he really wanted out of this little outing, was if Stephen trusted him.
Mikami couldn't wait. To have this man in his sheets, under his sheets, on top of them. Couldn't wait to weave his hands through the other man's raven dark hair to help him take down his mass. Or maybe the pressure of having a squirming man who was so close to busting into Teru's mouth made him more excited.
This was definitely a sin. Thinking about someone else in such a manner. It was lust personified, it was him falling to temptation. Much like the snake in Eden, and Eve. An apple was the only thing that he wanted, he wasn't allowed to have the apple, but God if he didn't want that fucking apple. If he was kicked out of Eden, he could take the core of the apple with him as he was kicked out to the new world.
He could plant the core in the earth, to build a new tree, to build a new Eden. Just for he, and the apple. No Adam in the equation, and no God to look over his shoulder, to punish him for sin. Eve's sin affected generations of women after her, what would the cosmic event of Mikami doing what he wants for the first time in his life be?
Would he bring the new world crumbling, making it stay the same corrupted way that it was now? Would he punish soldiers after him, would they face the damnation of Kira's wrath instead of him? Would Kira punish him for this? Would he sentence him to just another name in a black book of death?
Would he end up like L? Like Kiyomi? Like anyone who has ever stepped in Light Yagami's way, in his path to greatness. Would he render the same fate as the others before him, or would be be different. God has always left one alive, one to carry it on, Mosses, would be the last disciple to die much like the Evangelist John? Would he be the last soldier of the Kira empire, right next to Kira on a throne of corpses. Of people he work along side, of the others.
He could see Misa's lifeless face, a smile on red lips. To be killed by the man see loved, to have her heart stopped by Kira. She would be the first to go, second only to Kiyomi, she's been gone. And then it would be the task force that Light worked with, and then his family, and then the police, and then anyone who didn't agree with what Kira thought.
And he could see his own corps on top of all of them. Kira's boot digging into his back, his cold lifeless body, still being used as Kira's footrest.
Teru would sin tonight, it was the only way that he knew that he wouldn't be last. He didn't want to see them die, he wanted to be first on the chopping block. To be executed first, to have his life force taken away before anyone else did. Because he wouldn't be able to live with it. The death.
He would sin just because he didn't want to make it to the new world. He wanted to die before he saw his God become a monster. This must be what Judas thought. This was betrayal in the least of it, he was sinning, and lying, for something that he wanted. Much like Judas did for gold, Teru is doing for pleasure. He wants Stephen, and he's gonna have Stephen.
Kira wouldn't kill him just yet. No, after he found out. He would first tsk his tongue, say he was disappointed in the man, that Teru knew better than to deprave Kira's image like that. He would call him the whore of Babylon, he would say that he was a sign that they would lose.
That his sin and temptation would end the new world. And then he would tell Mikami that he would still serve his purpose of course, but this wasn't acceptable, he would be punished for his sin.
And finally when they won the war, Mikami would be the first that was sacrificed in the new world. Much like Abel, who was killed by his brother, Mikami would be killed by his God, by the love of his life.
Touching Stephen felt like a sin in itself, they locked hands after their food was done. They unlocked their hands when Stephen got up to get the check. Mikami's eyes traced the pattern of the table cloth.
He was listening to what the blonde woman, who was named Halle, and Stephen were talking about from the table. It was something to do with Kira, because Stephen had said that N would be glad to hear about it. They mostly spoke in taps on the counter, Morse code was something that Mikami didn't know.
As Gevanni walked back to their table, Mikami stood, his tall figure actually not towering over the other man. They were almost the same height. That was good, would make it easier to kiss the man.
"So," Mikami said, trying to break the Ice, to invite the man to bring sex up. To ask to go back to his place for the night. He was patiently awaiting the action that would end him.
"Would you be open to... going back to your place for the night?" Stephen asked, twiddling with his thumbs. "And, allow me to accompany you?"
That must have been hands down the most corny thing that Teru had ever heard come out of a man's mouth. He began to giggle at the fact, but agreed through the laughing. They locked hands, and walked out of the cafe. Making sure to keep at a fast pace, not wanting to miss the late train.
Falling to temptation was the best thing that Teru had ever thought of. It was a liberating feeling, like he was okay with sin as long as it made him free. As long as it made him feel like this.
Hot mouths on each other, tongues dancing with each other, hands groping wherever felt good. Being able to touch the man like this, to touch anyone like this ever again. Would be worth the sin.
This wasn't just about wanting to be first executed, this was now about how it made him feel. The high of sex, of want, of need. He lived in it. He wanted to drown in the feeling of it, he needed to feel this way till his last breath.
Stephen wasn't better than Kira, he was different, and that was what made it all the better. He wasn't controlling, he didn't make Mikami do things, all he did was want pleasure, and wanted to give pleasure.
Kira was bigger, and a little more aggressive, which was something that Teru loved. But Stephen wasn't horrible, he wasn't even bad in any way. He was perfect, he was gentle, and he was rough, and he was sweet. He was everything that Kira wasn't in bed.
Mikami had had sex multiple times in his life, but this was memorable, this was different. He was kissed, and loved, and touched. And it felt amazing, it felt like he was in heaven. A place where he would never reach, somewhere that he would never see. And he was feeling it all because of this man.
It hurt him that he would have to die, that he would be a name in a notebook soon. It hurt that he couldn't stick around for a while, leave with him, get away from Kira, and L, and everything in between.
Leave, and not come back. To be together, to feel this heaven whenever he wanted. Whenever he needed it. He wanted a life with this man. A man who he had known for less than five hours. He wanted to live with this man.
He didn't want him gone, he didn't even want himself gone anymore. All he wanted was Stephen. He didn't want to be Kira, he didn't want justice, he didn't want a new world. Because the only place where he could ever feel this, was this world.
Mikami's eyes moved to the back of his head as an angled cock hit his prostate, that was his breaking point. A stream of white landed on his chest, and soon a grunt, and the feeling of a condom filling up overstimulated him.
Stephen leaned down and kissed him, took his mouth into his, and kissed him.
Temptation was the greatest sin, next to lust, and Mikami had just committed both. And he was proud of it, and he wanted it much, much more. For as long as he could sin.
A pen in the jugular was something that he would have to deal with. While staring at the object of his Temptation, of his desire. And it wasn't his false god. It was the man who made him love sin.

Mikavanni becomes so much more gut-wrenching when you consider how Gevanni would’ve been affected by it in the warehouse scene. If you assume that Mikami and Gevanni got together in some capacity during Gevanni’s surveillance, it’s heartbreaking to think about how Mikami went completely insane in that warehouse, and how Gevanni had to stand by helplessly and watch it happen, even being the one to arrest him. He would've been well aware that Mikami would ultimately betray him, but nothing could've prepared him for what it would feel like to actually witness it. For the first time, he would’ve seen Mikami acting like just another mindless, pathetic Kira worshipper, capable of killing even the people he cared about without a hint of remorse. Because at the end of the day, that’s what Mikami was, but Gevanni wouldn’t have really had the chance to see that part of him in action up until that point, and it would’ve been incredibly confronting.
It’s particularly tragic if you subscribe to the theory that Near wrote Mikami’s name down. In that instance, Mikami would’ve been totally unaware of what he was doing, totally unaware that he had just tried to kill his almost-boyfriend, and that knowledge would’ve made things infinitely more painful for Gevanni. Maybe that’s why he’s the only living SPK member who didn’t show up at Near’s headquarters in the C-Kira oneshot, and made no appearance at all in the A-Kira oneshot; because even though he knew, deep down, that Near did the right thing by bringing the case to a close, he still harboured some lingering, irrational shred of resentment towards Near, knowing he killed the man Gevanni wasn’t supposed to love.
#feeling particularly insane about them today#i just find it compelling how this COULD realistically have happened in canon and it would still make reasonable sense#because nothing has to change other than mikami and gevanni’s internal thoughts and feelings#but that also makes it so so heartbreaking to think gevanni was just suffering in silence 😭#mikavanni#death note#ramblings
