Thinking about Lancer lore and I feel a lot of the hangups with the lore can be sort of resolved if one start thinking less of the setting as an extension of today’s worlds and realities**  and more from the angle of what’s sometimes written between the lines. ** (though there are elements of such, especially if you think about the fact the main narrative designer, Miguel Lopez, is literally Mexican American; go read the Tyrannocleave Flyers from the Field Guide to the Karrakin Trade Baronies and then come and try  to pretend they’re not a huge criticism of how America handle border policies and some of these other issues) For example a common trap I find it people reading “Core” VS “Diasporan” world conflict is a lot of people read this and instantly jump into “First World VS Third World” analogy. Specifically when it comes to conflict between Union and the Diasporan states. Which is... a bit of a trap; Core worlds have a level of development but the biggest part of what is perceived as development isn’t their technology; it’s their willingness to follow the Three Utopian Pillars. I.e. “You shall provide to your population’s material needs”, “You will not uphold borders preventing those in needs from seeking refuge” and “You will not hold people into bondage, be it in the form of slavery or debt”. A low population density planet wide worth of farmer’s communes could literally apply for Core status as long as it had the means and will to uphold those pillars. Meanwhile Diasporan states doesn’t mean undevelopped; quite the opposite because it just mean this: the wide diaspora of humanity in a starfaring civilization now numbering in the trillions. Yes that can mean ye olde dustball of a planet. But it can also mean a borderline Coruscant planetary metroswathe that nonetheless still cannot get that Core status because despite their high tech level of development on parity with the rest of advanced galactic civilizations, simply because the civilization they have built is one that is literally built on the back of oppression and social disparity. In fact, such overdevelopped world are often most likely going to either be part of the Diaspora than the Core worlds *because* you rarely achieve that level of growth with the kind of sustainability that’s required to uphold the pillars. And so similarly conflict between Union and the Diaspora make also a bit more sense if you think about the origin of a lot of Diasporan worlds: the second Expansion under SecCom, the previous imperialist oppressive of Union that preceded the current idealistic ThirdCom that replaced it after a revolution; Think a bit about it in these terms: look at how many modern day nations have seen their roots in the roman empire. Then, look at how many of these nations who, in their history, instead of rejecting the abusive imperialism of the Roman Empire that had conquered their ancestor.... instead look toward the empire itself as inspiration and began to develop their own abusive imperialist oppressive bullshit aspirations.  Similarly think about how our own world isn’t united under a single nation; it’s the same case with a lot of diasporan worlds. So some conflicts can be less “the developped world bring civilization to the third world” and much more “the UN actually does what it should have been supposed to do and prevent this one world’s so-called ‘developped’ nation from trying to streamroll the ‘third world’ nations of their planets”. And with the way the setting is written it can be even less that; it can be literally “Your are not Union soldiers but members of a planet’s so-called “third world” being invaded by another nation with stupid imperial ambitions and get subtle/measured support from Union because ThirdComm’s revolutionary ideals means it’d rather support people like you against imperialism but also actively and overtly restraint itself from more direct intervention so it doesn’t actively and unconsciously do an Imperialism itself; it would rather worlds join Union through their own self-liberation keeping their own culture/etc intact than through Union inadvertly intervening too directly and unconsciously imposing it’s own culture on you... and even their limited intervention is still a complex issue vis a vis that goal that introduce a lot of nuances and complexities you are entirely free to see as further invitation to make a most nuanced and interesting tale”. This is a roughly summed up thing but honestly... Setting Big. There’s lot of ground uncovered specifically so that GMs/etc  can shape it however they want still while making their own entire Setting-within-the-Setting on worlds and stories of their own creations talking about the issues and complexities that matter to them, and honestly there’s a lot of sometimes interesting nuance.... plus at the end of the day I’m not an Autorithy so I can only talk about how I perceive things based on the bits I read. And honestly I feel like I’m barely scratching the surface of it.

The Braves At A Glance- The Atlanta Braves have been an interesting team in 2024. They got off to a hot start with a (19-9) record in April and are roughly around the .500 mark since. The Braves still hold the final National League Wild-Card spot. The Braves got the band back together by trading for Luke Jackson and Jorge Soler, who helped them win the World Series in 2021. The team also had Eddie Rosario at Gwinnett before he was released. Atlanta has picked up Whit Merrifield and Gio Urshela to try to go on a late run. Urshela has hit .333 in five games with the Braves. Marcell Ozuna is having a great yaer with thirty-seven homers and ninety-four RBI. The Braves starting staff has a 3.89 ERA, which is ninth-best in baseball. Chris Sale is having a resurgent year with a 191 strikeouts over 147 2/3 innings. Reynaldo Lopez has been great since he became a starter again. Their bullpen is even better with a 3.22 ERA, which is second baseball in MLB. Raisel Iglesias has given up eight runs over 51 2/3 innings of work. Dylan Lee's been great from the left side and Joe Jimenez and Jesse Chavez have been good right-handed options.

The Twins At A Glance- The Twins lost a pair of tough games to the Cardinals, but the Royals remain tied with them for second place. Both teams sit three games back of the Indians for first place. The Twins keep getting bad injury news. Carlos Correa is not returning soon because he hasn't been able to run with spikes on or at full speed. Alex Kirilloff had his back flare up for him during his rehab assignment and won't be playing in games soon. Byron Buxton is making slow progress back from a hip injury. Max Kepler was scratched from Sunday's game with left knee soreness. Brooks Lee has picked up four hits and knocked in three in two games for the Saints on a rehab assignment. Zebby Matthews, David Festa, and Simeon Woods Richardson continue to do just enough for the rotation. Griffin Jax has thrown thirteen straight scoreless innings.

What To Watch For- The Braves are (17-12) all-time against the Twins. The Braves swept all three games from the Twins last June in Atlanta. The Twins have lost five straight games to the Braves. The last Twins win wsa on August 5, 2019 when Miguel Sano hit a walk-off homer off Chris Martin. Max Fried threw 5 1/3 shutout innings in his lone start against the Twins. Bailey Ober, Simeon Woods Richardson, and David Festa have never faced the Braves. Chris Sale is (11-6) with a 3.81 ERA in thirty games against the Twins. Navarrete-Valdez to headline broadcast airing live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+ at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT

GLENDALE, Ariz. (June 7, 2023) – The showdown of the summer heads to the desert in a battle that has all the makings of an instant action classic.   Three-division world champion Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete will defend his WBO junior lightweight world title against former two-division world champion Oscar Valdez in an all-Mexican duel Saturday, August 12, at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona. Navarrete and Valdez seek to etch their names among the celebrated catalog of Mexican rivalries that includes Marco Antonio Barrera-Erik Morales, Ruben Olivares-Chucho Castillo, and Rafael Marquez-Israel Vazquez.   Navarrete-Valdez will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.   Promoted by Top Rank, ticket information will be announced shortly.   “Emanuel Navarrete and Oscar Valdez are proud warriors, and this is a fight that is destined to go down as a classic,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “The fight fans at Desert Diamond Arena and everyone watching on ESPN are in for a real treat. The winner of this fight etches his name among the great Mexican fighters. I can’t wait.”    Navarrete (37-1, 31 KOs), the fighting pride of San Juan Zitlaltepec, captured his first world title by defeating Isaac Dogboe for the WBO junior featherweight crown in December 2018. He made five defenses before moving up to featherweight, where he beat Ruben Villa for the vacant WBO title in October 2020. The 28-year-old defended his belt with victories over Christopher Diaz, Joet Gonzalez and Eduardo Baez before moving up to 130 pounds. In February, Navarrete joined an elite list of Mexican three-division champions — including Morales, Barrera and Julio Cesar Chavez — by defeating Liam Wilson via ninth-round TKO for the WBO junior lightweight world title.    Navarrete said, “After so much time, this fight will finally take place. Obviously, I am 100 percent motivated because Valdez is still a big threat, and a fight against him could possibly be the start of a new Mexico vs. Mexico rivalry like the one between Barrera and Morales."   Valdez (31-1, 23 KOs), from Nogales, represented Mexico at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. As a pro, he captured the WBO featherweight world title against Matias Rueda in 2016 and made six successful defenses. He moved up to junior lightweight and defeated Adam Lopez in 2019 and Jayson Velez in 2020 before taking on his toughest challenge, a WBC title tilt against Miguel Berchelt in February 2021. Despite disadvantages in height, reach and power, Valdez counterpunched his way to three crushing knockdowns, the last of which earned him a 10th-round KO. After a competitive fight against Olympic gold medalist Robson Conceição later that year, Valdez suffered his first defeat in a title unification battle against Shakur Stevenson in April 2022. He bounced back by defeating Lopez in a rematch in the co-feature to the Devin Haney-Vasiliy Lomachenko super fight last month, and he now hopes to equal Navarrete as a three-time world champion.   Valdez said, “I’m excited to return to the ring, especially because it’s for a world title against ‘Vaquero’ Navarrete. Being a world champion is something that I always dreamed of. I already did it two times, and this is yet another opportunity. So, I’m excited and prepared both mentally and physically for this new opportunity. And I like that it’s between two Mexicans because it’s a win-win for Mexico.
