Migraineurs around the world
The World Migraine Summit is taking place 6-13th March
You have to pay to access the vids after the summit, BUT, you can catch all 4 30-mins daily interviews within 24 hours of their release during the summit for free.
From their email:
How it works: Every day during the Summit, you’ll receive a link to all four 30-minute daily interviews. We’ll release that link at 3:00 pm Eastern time (New York, USA time) or 8 pm (20 hours) Greenwich Mean Time. What if you’re in a different time zone? No matter where you are in the world, the four interviews will be available to watch for free for an entire 24 hours. You can look here to see when they’ll be released in your time zone. That means that in each 24 hour period, you can watch when it’s convenient for you.
Its worth checking out their schedule to see what you REALLY want to see, especially if watching the vids within that timescale isn't something you can do.
Schedule here
I watched it last year and it was a mixed bag. There was some stuff that wasn't applicable outside the US, some stuff I already knew and some that I wasn't interested in
But there was also expansion of stuff I already knew and some completely new info.
I'm interested in catching:
Controlling Chronic Migraine Best Exercise Options for people with migraine migraine biochemistry: CGRP & Beyond balancing risks & benefits of migraine treatments is migraine a brain energy problem? Migraine FOMO: are you missing out? what to expect: nurtec ODT, Ubrelvy, Quilpta & Zavzpret new daily persistent headache: pain that won't stop unofficial side effects of CGRP monoclonal antibodies migraine, TMD and neck pain Advocacy, access & migraine at work Inflammation & chronic migraine brain-related comorbodities of migraine Is migraine linked with cognitive decline or dementia? finding migraine relief
-------
One of the good things about this year's line up is that they ran a survey after last year's and asked us as a community what we wanted to see.
It does actually look like those responses were taken into consideration, because there's a lot here I saw trending on the survey.
If you have migraines and want to be more in the know about your condition, I really recommend joining and giving it a watch

A researcher on migraine was interviewed on the migraineworldsummit. She was part of a study where they induced migraines in patients and then took imaging while the attack was happening.
She said she consistently saw patients who had come in happy, smiling, etc, turn grumpy, snappish, even bad tempered once the pain started.
Like a clear and apparent difference.
Pain causes irritability - not an excuse, but a reason.
I feel like we don’t talk enough about how having chronic illness and/or chronic pain makes you irritable. It makes you grumpy. It can make you a not very fun person to be around.
We don’t talk enough about the ugly sides of chronic illness/pain. The parts where you feel like a bad person not because of the pain in of itself but because everyone else thinks you are pushing them away. The times when you don’t bear it like a saint and the roughest edges of your personality come out. Where maybe you do hurt other people’s feelings. Its a complicated side of the experience thats resists an easy answer.

The more I hear from experts on the migraine world summit, the less uncertainty I have about migraine being a neurodivergence.
- hypersensitive brains
- overactive signals in the brain
- hypersensitivity to the environment (touch/smells/sounds/weather/temperature)
- allodynia
- how thoroughly the migraine brain relies on routine
Like.
ETA: I can't believe I forgot the hallucinations!

Dr Pasricha, Mayo Clinic: "The gut is an external organ-"
Me, tiny brain: "Uh, no?"
Dr Pasricha, enormous gut-brain brain: "-food goes in through your mouth and your gut interacts with the external environment."
Me, slightly less tiny brain: *pikachu face*

Elinor has magic headaches. That might sound half fun but it’s not. The magic is the kind that makes her think she is going crazy and the headaches are the kind that never ever go away. When Elinor blinks she sees another world. Her vision switches from Waxhaw, NC to Morland, a magic planet. It’s super annoying. Blink. Earth. Blink. Morland. Blink. Earth. Blink. Morland. Repeat forever. And understandably, whatever has broken in her brain to make her able to do this is giving her horrible, daily headaches that doctors have no idea how to fix. And the only person who could possibly help her is Derek, a soulless narcissistic murderer with a blog. She’s doomed. Morland is the worst and Derek should know since he spent five years trapped on that stupid, magic planet. He promised himself he would never ever go back, especially not for some crazy broken girl. But Derek knows that Morland is not done with him. He’d be lying if he said that Morland and what he had to do to escape doesn’t still haunt him. Derek knows without a doubt that his mother, the Queen, is still waiting for him. She's waiting to destroy his soul and make him a slave to the forces of Darkness. Mother knows best. Derek lives his life on edge waiting for Morland to pull him back in. And Elinor is a giant flashing light calling Morland’s attention. But even knowing that, he can’t seem to stay away and it would be a lot better for both of them if he could. #newdailypersistentheadache #ndph #mws18 #migraineworldsummit #chronicheadache #chronicmigraine #migraine
