I’m in love with this trilogy and being part of this community it’s amazing, sharing things and knowing more about the personals experiences from others with the movies it’s so much fun. Hopefully we can know each other even more so don’t be afraid to reach out !! I love to talk about the duckssss

Meet the Mod

So because for a variety of reasons I was not able to contribute as many things as I wanted to for the week, I decided to sort of introduce myself, why I did the week and talk about my time in the fandom a bit, so please indulge me. I am mainly going to talk about my WIP (tho technically the first part is done and complete on AO3) and other things.

I try not to make this too self-aggrandizing, but I wanted to share just some things to part the event with.

Who are you? How long have you been in the fandom? What is your history in the fandom

I am K ( @boasterkeaton ), I have been active in TMD “fandom” for about four years. I saw the films as a child and loved them as a child who was only about a couple of years younger than the kids in the film, but then swiftly forgot about them for twenty five or so years as I grew up and went through different things. My original start in fandom is rooted in animanga fandom, particular for series that became prominent in the late 90s, early 00s with the rise of Toonami.

I returned to the fandom via a random dream I had in August of 2017 in which I dreamed the story that would later become the fic Chasing Dreams. Of course I woke up and thought “Is there fic for that?” and so I looked and of course there was fic for that! And I have been playing around in the fandom ever since!

What do you enjoy most about TMD Fandom?

I think what I enjoy most about TMD fandom is that like most small, old and closed (or semi-closed) fandoms there is literally no pressure. No pressure from waiting to see what some writers are going to do in Hollywood, no pressure to conform to any particular fanon or BNF’s head!canon. I really have enjoyed getting to write and participate in fandom for me. I share my work and I squee in my own way, and if others join me that is great and if they don’t, that is fine too.

Tell us a little about your work?

As my graphic design skills are EXTREMELY limited, and my artistic skills are even less than that, I am mostly a writer. I have about 8 pieces of TMD fic coming into the week, however just a look at my AO3 profile shows that I have written for a few different properties over the years (mostly for Yuletide). However my baby, if you can call it that, is the fic that started as a dream and was initially a singular story called Boy Problems, and has now become the Chasing Love series. 

And here is where I say the fun of a small fandom really works, because I am a slow writer, so I could never sustain a long overarching fic for a more active fandom, me being allowed the time and the patience allowed me to actually sort of hone myself as a writer and really learn how to plot, and plan and just write for a goal. And though it is still nowhere near being done I am super proud of it.

For those of you who haven’t read it, the series is basically a coming-of-age tale of acceptance and self-discovery, all while dealing with the pressures of youth, both internal and external. I don’t necessarily relate to characters on a one-to-one basis but for a fanfic, there is so much of me in both Adam and Charlie that it literally hurts (in a good way) when I read and write it.

However overall, I love good rom-coms mixed with angst, so basically any story I write are going to have elements of that. 

Why did you decide to create and run @mightyducksweek?

Well @gaffney made me do it 😝No, honestly with the uptick in activity caused by Game Changers and because four years in I finally got the courage to actually interact with others, I decided to do this and hope that others would come and join. In the words of the ultimate Dad Movie, Field of Dreams: “If you build it you will come.”

It definitely has been a blast and I love all the stuff that has come in and that people seemed to really enjoy doing work. It has truly been a great ten days and I hope that we can continue to support and hold up this small little fandom even after it is over.

Are you in any other fandoms?

I am not necessarily in other fandoms, per se, but my tumblr is pretty multifandom most of the time. Also once I am in a fandom I never really leave, I just cycle in and out of fixations and it is more a matter that I add new ones as opposed to discarding old ones.

Where can everyone find you after the week is over?

Well my Tumblr is @boasterkeaton​ and I am the same name on AO3, Discord and Twitter (where I am most active). I am pretty free to speak to anyone most of the time!

Last Question, Who’s Your Favorite Duck?

That is a tough question, but at the end of the day it is Charlie Conway. I think about him most, I connect with him most and I have the most fun writing him!
