Allocating Your Aesthetic Budget: Sailor Moon Edition

Sailor Moon is a show that undoubtedly built a powerhouse of a visual brand. Should I even bother posting a screenshot of the sailor scouts, given that I am 100% confident anyone reading this can recall them instantly? I guess it won’t hurt: 

Anime is often really good at creating iconic designs like this, through repetition of the visuals. It is awkward in live action shows if characters just wear the same outfit every scene (what, they only own one outfit? Are they homeless/work in the tech industry?), but animation gives us enough aesthetic “distance”, an awareness that this isn’t accurate to real life, that you can buy into the conceit. By wearing the same outfit every time, it just becomes the character. Not to mention a studio can really save quite a few bucks by streamlining production with neat tricks like having only one character design to animate - when you are on a shoe-string budget, like pretty much every anime in the 90’s was, every cut corner counts.

What is interesting about Sailor Moon is that most of the time it doesn’t really use this conceit at all.

Episode 15 of Sailor Moon’s first season has, in its opening act, this shot of all of the Senshi (at the time) talking to the plot-of-the-day character, who clearly trains rock Pokemon in 16-bit caves in his off hours:

If you knew nothing about these three characters, you could probably infer about 80% of their personality just from their outfits. Usagi (the blond one in the middle, if that's necessary) is wearing:

Light pastel colours, with pink on top of that: girly, feminine, bubbly and breezy

Short-but-not-too-short of a skirt, and red heels: cares about fashion, wants to project an image of being a woman with a romantic hint to it

Long-twin tails w/ buns: Contrasting the shoes, she is still immature and childish. It also means she is the protagonist of an anime 

Rei (far right) rocks a very different look:

T-shirt and jean shorts, shoes over heels: sensible, practical, a bit sporty

Very short shorts, long black hair: Confident, a bit aggressive, and suggestive of a more overt sexuality

Ami (far left) settles into a more restrained vibe with:

Full, long, but sleeveless dress, bob-cut hair: Chaste, more conservative, but not to the point of prudishness; particularly with the length (and the hand posture, shielding her body) probably a bit shy

Monochrome blue colour in outfit & hair: reserved, serene, possessing a calm demeanor

I know I have seen the show already, but really none of these details are a stretch - this is just the language of fashion. And all of these outfits are outfits that the characters have never (or rarely) worn before up until this point. The cast of Sailor Moon, far from that animation conceit of “standard outfits”, change clothes all…

And while it isn’t always as spot on as the top picture, they all in some way embody the language of visual design to speak to the personality of the characters. If you want to see more, check out one of the multiple tumblrs dedicated to the everyday clothing the Sailor Senshi wear, because of course those exist.

If this was a 2010’s Kyoto Animation show, pointing this out would be the end of it - every one of their shows has this level of impeccable detail. Sailor Moon is notable in that it is not at all that kind of show; the animation and designs in Sailor Moon take perpetual shortcuts to get the job done. I don’t think the transformation sequences need to be belabored - the way they permitted the team to recycle identical animation sequences, multiple times per episode, was surely a godsend to the production schedule. Yet not all of the budget limitations are so prettily masked:

The show is filled with dirty animation, unfinished backgrounds, backgrounds that are a simple color gradient for no clear reason, and so on. It is clear that the Sailor Moon team did not have the resources for every detail - which is why the decision of what details they did choose to prioritize is so interesting.

What is the point of Sailor Moon? I do believe that shows have “points”; and by that I don’t mean a message or theme but a core appeal to an audience, something specific that they will get out of the show. Almost every show appeals along multiple axes, and Sailor Moon is no exception, but I want to focus on one: aesthetic identification.

If you learn someone is a Sailor Moon fan, there is the obvious follow-up question you have to ask, namely “which Sailor Senshi are you?” It’s the which-Harry-Potter-house-are-you question of anime, a horoscope where you can choose your sign (in this case literally). The premise of this concept is not hard for media to execute on - it is just personality traits and aesthetics grouped together under a label, a basic building block of media and clickbait internet quizzes. Harry Potter, ironically, raised up its memetic question almost by accident, as its focus is so squarely on House Gryffindor that the others are almost forgotten; it was just so mind-bogglingly popular that it didn’t matter. 

Sailor Moon, however, takes this concept and allocates so much of its aesthetic budget into making it a centerpiece of the show. Sailor Moon herself is a klutzy, lazy romantic, Sailor Mercury is a shy, earnest bookworm, and so on, with none of them ever really becoming very complex characters. However, the show devotes itself to making you *feel* these archetypes as strongly and intricately as possible. All of those outfit changes are chosen because not only do real girls care about their outfits and can therefore identify more strongly with characters who do the same, but so they can constantly emulate their archetype in diverse, different ways. The show doesn't have the budget for intense action scenes, so after Sailor Moon engages in her hyper-serious transformation sequences, she proceeds to, nearly every time, bumble through the combat scenes like this:

Oh sure, the scenes are done this way because it is funny (and good comedy can be done on any budget - these shots are frequently still frames with motion lines!), but it is also done this way because Sailor Moon is a total screw-up, and if you identify with that it is validating to see someone “just like you” able to pull off wins despite it all. The transformation sequences are not only beautiful animation that showcases aspirational power, but are also crafted to highlight the personalities of the Senshi in question - unless you think aggressive, combative Rei got fire powers by coincidence. Half of the run-time of every episode is spent, not on the plot du-jour, but on light-hearted personal squabbles between the cast because those scenes are not just funny, but also allow for far more moments of character expression. 

All of that work pays off in building with the audience, not a connection with a character who reflects their identity in total, but a connection that reflects one aspect of their identity in an extremely deep (dare I say multifaceted?) way. I think if you were to describe Sailor Moon as a “shallow” show, you would actually be right to say so, in a sense. These characters will never have the true depth of personality, themes and so on of a more ‘adult’ show. But those adult shows have to spend their effort somewhere - for all that the themes of say Evangelion or Paranoia Agent are pristinely detailed and impactful, you aren’t ever going to be memorizing the moves of their transformation sequences. The way Sailor Moon committed so strongly to fleshing out the archetypes the Senshi stood for is, I think, one of the keys to how this cast of five became so iconic.

A Final Note:

At least, everything I’ve said here applies to Sailor Moon at its peaks. The show, however, is not one without its stumbles, even in Season 1. This section doesn’t flow into the core essay too well, but I wanted to note it because if you were to watch Sailor Moon today, you might struggle to feel the dynamic outlined above. The biggest culprit here is the length - Season 1 is 46 episodes long, and sections of it most certainly drag. They also take a startlingly long time to introduce the cast - this choice builds tension around their arrival, but it also means the later Senshi get a lot less time to establish themselves. Sailor Venus in particular gets hamstrung by this - she is introduced and then immediately arc plot elements sweep the narrative, and so she is left as a hollow shell for some time. The pacing of the show is undoubtedly flawed.

I think Sailor Moon is a show that you do have to keep its time and place in mind for - namely, middle schoolers and anime nerds watching it on broadcast TV in the 90’s. As an adult you “get” the point of the show pretty quickly, and get satiated on it almost as fast. Watching it all in a few sittings only heightens this problem. For a younger audience, and one that is waiting for a week between episodes with no internet for plot reminders, all that extra time is needed to jog memories and build connections. And younger audiences just have that limitless commitment to the things they love! If you think no one could actually enjoy seeing the same transformation sequence for the 30th time, watch it with someone who would have died for this show when they were 10 and you will be disabused of that notion *very* quickly. 

Still, we can’t travel back in time - Sailor Moon is a show of its era. There are “filler-reduced” guides out there, though I caution that the plot of Sailor Moon is absolutely not the point of the show in comparison to the character dynamics, and so sometimes the filler is the best part (Cat-Rhett Butler is the best character in the show YOU KNOW I’M RIGHT). Certainly, however, some method must be used to cut down on its length. If you are going to be a first time viewer in adulthood, that reality should be kept in mind, and if you do accept it for what it is you can really appreciate its core appeal - and don’t forget to finish it off with a 1990′s era internet personality quiz to really wrap it up!

Kasumi/Hamuko Parallel post

I mean I’m not saying Kasumi is Hamuko reincarnated in Minato’s timeline, but I feel like it’s a very good possibility (considering MT’s lore and as well as possibly Persona’s). I mean again, it’d be REALLY SEXY if I was proven wrong with Adult!Hamuko showing up in P5S! REALLY SEXY ATLUS! ;w; (just watch and see me be right with both P5R and P5S, let’s hope not cause that’s giving me a headache just thinking about it haha ;w;). Anyway, this is mostly going to be a parallel post between Kasumi and Hamuko, both really freaking shallow to “hey those are some key character traits!” kinda stuff. I’ll organize it from newest release/info to oldest. So starting with PQ2 (prior to that I will open to why it’s perfect timing out of universe) and then P3P (during which I’ll talk about why the timing in universe is perfect too).

There will be spoilers of P5R BUT ONLY ones from a stream, which showed the first like 10 min of the game (the spoiler is that it confirms when a specific scene happens in game). There will be PQ2 spoilers tho so like....yeah 8U

(lowkey been trying to finish this since Cinderella’s announcement but better late than never and I wanted to at least get most of it done before P5S’ possible trailer tonight 8U)

So before with start with PQ2, I should say why this is perfect timing out of universe. PQ2 has just released, Hamuko is in the public’s head. Not only that but she was as important to the game as the main-main case (aka P5). Now would be the perfect time to release a new character who looks the same and has the same importance. I mean this wouldn’t be the first time they did it, they first did it with Arena-PQ1-Ultimax, with PQ1 having secret answers to Arena, and Ultimax later reaffirming these answers (I’ll keep it vague for those who have yet to play the, as I like to call it, “The Yasogami Labyrinth Trilogy.”) It could be that PQ2 was actually our Arena in a possible trilogy (with P5R being the PQ1 and P5S being our Ultimax, that’s just a theory tho, it could just be that this is a duology too 8U). But yeah this is why it feels like perfect timing if they wanted to make this twist. Now onto PQ2

PQ2 (might add more later):

Were to start is the real question, I’m kinda just going to list of things with pictures showing them. I’ll try to keep everything numbered to make it easier.

1) Both apparently first appear in the first arc which stars Kamoshida (Kasumi is stated to not introduce herself during that time, but we can still find her). Kasumi is around for Kamoshida, Hamuko is around with Kamoshidaaaaaman.

      a) Coincidentally enough, there is a little girl that appears in Kamoshidaaaaman’s trailer that looks A LOT like Kasumi. (which I dunno might also symbolize Hamuko, speculation on my end but I felt the female dinosaur kind of symbolized Yosukesaurus that we actually see in the movie so maybe it’s a parallel maybe not but I wanted to throw it out there), also if Kasumi’s life is anything like Cinderella (and trailer girl’s dad is dead from that impact), that means Hamu/Kasumi/Trailer girl both have their dads possibly not being around anymore:

2) Both technically have a magical girl connection, Kasumi mostly from her transformation and what the devs said....but Hamuko said something really interesting concerning the PT and Magical Girls:

3) (P5R first 10 min stream spoiler) Both are introduced into these two games via showing off how great fighters they are (even tho that’s not Kasumi’s chronological introduction to the audience because of the cold open, but it’s the first time we see her and it’s our first impression of her). 

4) I don’t care if I’ll repeat this below in the P3P thing, but yet again but PQ2 hinted at Hamuko’s big appitite again:

5) Hamuko’s Ult Persona, both in P3P (tho it’s not shown in the credits) and in PQ2 is Messiah. Considering she’s a savior, and Kasumi’s relationship with magical girls (who usually are the “saviors”).....shallow I know but there. 8U

6) A big one, PQ2 actually hints at reincarnation, it’s just a throwaway line but....it’s not the first time Persona’s had a throwaway line and then it ends up coming true (sometimes it’s happenstance and sometimes it’s on purpose). (I should also note, reincarnation is a big part of MT, it’s even in the title, so it’s def not something that’s off the table). And the reason I’m including this is because, it kinda hints that even if Hamuko is reincarnated Kasumi, they’d kinda still have their own identity and be a different person. 

7) Lastly (for now probably), Hamuko and Kasumi both end up “joining”/working with the PT at some point. I mean so does the rest of P3/4, but they really try to make Hamuko feel included, and she feels extra gung-ho about the whole thief thing. It’s a shallow/small one but I should include it anyway.

(the reason I might add more later is because I’m re-going through PQ2 to see if I pick up anything else, anyway onto P3P~!)

P3P:

Before listing their similarities, I want to explain what I meant by the timing being perfect for in-universe. The reason being, if Hamuko died around 1999, she’d probably be reincarnated into someone who was born around 2000, and people roughly in 2000 (minus the first 4 months) are....guess what? 1st years during P5 (Futaba and Yusuke have late birthdays fun fact). And considering Kasumi is a first year~! Yeah it’s perfect timing if they wanted to pull a reincarnation card. 

1) They.....they have the same face..... I’M NOT JOKING THEY HAVE THE SAME FACE! It’s not the hair style it’s the face man! ;w; Rough same eye shape and face shape (sadly their portraits usually have their faces not being the same portfolio but this is the closest we have):

2) The both have red eyes (which also look brown in some lighting). (I know some people want to say Hamuko has auburn hair for some gd reason even tho it’s pretty brown in a lot of artwork, but since that’s close to red and Kasumi has red hair like bonus points it seems if auburn is also a correct answer XP)

3) Both of their portraits like to have their eyes looking to the left (their perspective)/right (our perspective) area (the angle of their face differs tho):

4) Both have been said to be big eaters. Like Atlus is freaking advertising this about Kasumi like crazy man, but Hamuko has food and her big appetite tied to a loooooot of different events with P3P. Like Hamu being a hungry girl and loving her food is a very iconic trait to her (ironically it’s not really done to death in PQ2 unlike Chie’s meat or Aki’s protein klfjsadl;fja). 

5) Both have red as a main theme (like red eyes, red ribbon, red shoes/headphones 8U). It’s shallow but important!

6) Shallow but interesting thing I notice, there’s a lot of key design similarities between Fem!Orpheus and Kasumi’s PT outfit and Cinderella. The biggest being the vine embroidery and the same heart design. There’s also the fact Fem!Orpheus Picaro also has red hair and a black headpiece similar to Kasumi who has red hair (all the time) but a black ribbon, also both have a similar flower connected to them (red gloves and black fingers, former for Kasumi and the latter for Cindy, but I don’t think it’s as important as the heart/vine/flower similarity). 8U Other than that I’ll just show it in the picture below:

7) This one is part of a popular theory with Kasumi, and will possibly be debunked after P5R’s release but I do want to throw it out there. If the theory that Kasumi gets hit by a car in the rain (possibly during the fireworks festival), well..... That means they both have ties to car accidents. Just described what  might be Kasumi’s. Hamuko survived one 10 years prior to P3, and there’s two that happen in two separate events (she saves Yukari from a crazy driver almost hitting them), and I iirc Theo saves Hamu from a crazy driver). 

8) They have similar designed shoes (tho the promo art of Kasumi her shoes are different from the teaser so I dunno if it still counts) But it’s worth  mentioning since Atlus went out of their way to keep Yusuke’s shoes as a reference to the past Persona game school he was supposed to be a part of before they made Kosei (god I’m so sorry for that word salad, no I won’t fix it at least not now)...btw Yusuke’s are stated to be in reference to P3 it’s stated in the art book:

9) Kasumi’s maid outfit is much closer to P3′s(and P4) than it is to P5′s (aka the traditional black and white as opposed to P5′s red and white), it’s just odd that it’s not also red 8U:

10) Uhhhh this (I don’t care we’re look for the smallest details! >:D DX ;w; also I’m ok really I’m ok 8U ;w; orz):

11) Last thing, but interestingly enough they both are known to jump really high. It’s not stated as a big thing for Hamuko, you just see it in her critical and that’s pretty much it. But it is a big defining moment for Kasumi (remember she jumps high to get a kid’s balloon). They also both like to twist and twirl in the air (tho Hamu is just designated to her critical). Shallow I know but I want to throw it out there. 8U:

I might add more to this section, because I feel like I’m forgetting something but flksdajf;akf I want to get this out. Before I end it I do want to add a few not completely related Hamu parallels (but I can still loop back around cause my mental gymnastics are top notch! Probably even better than Kasumi’s! 8U). First is Minato parallels, which via PQ2 we find out that he and Hamu are “basically the same person.” The similarities is that he and Kasumi both have the same type of sword, and both of their Personas have the same skin (I think Male!Orpheus’ face is the only “real part” and thus both have the same kind of skin), and OT and Cindy technically both have blue eyes. 8U Small but I wanted to mention those 3 things. The other is Mitsuru, fun fact between Hamu/Minty/Mitsuru/Kasumi they all seem to be honor students (or can be, Hamu/Minty it’s up to the player). But I now a lot of people think Kasumi’s red hair and it also being wavy remind them of Mitsuru more, almost like a sister? Kinda like:

RIP to Hamuko, the cockblock sister zone destroyed us all that day. We stand with you girl. 😔✊✊

So yeah I dunno how else to end it. They just have a lot of similarities ok? And some of them are very distinct design features. Of course, again, it’d be really sexy of you to prove me wrong with Adult!Hamuko in P5S Atlus. ;) Be really sexy of you to stop ignoring Hammy and P1/2 characters~! Oh it’d be such a shame if I was proven wrong and those two things happened instead. Oh whatever shall I do~! 8U

Gendrya Endgame Post Update

Hey guys me again. And before I say anything else let me say THERE IS STILL HOPE! So I posted an analysis of some dresses that I came across online which I thought were new costumes for season 8 and one in particular was very exciting for me as a gendrya fan. But then @trufaxxog pointed out that they were actually art pieces which were based on characters costumes that were made of paper and displayed at the season 7 premiere. So first off let me apologise for the confusion there it was an honest mistake on my part I wasn’t aware of the older images only the newer ones which I found at these links some of which did suggests they were new outfits.

They were all taken by the same person who was at the season 8 premiere. What this tells us is that for whatever reason out of all the outfits that were originally made these three were specifically chosen to be at the season 8 premiere so we can assume they still have some kind of relevance. Also I was able to get hold of a couple of the original images and I’ve got some good news (continued under tag in case of spoilers. 

some time between the season 7 and the season 8 premiere it HAS changed colour. 

Obviously the one on the right is the original which as you can see is white, very very white. yet the newer one (on the left) has clearly been altered so that the leaves are golden coincidence? I think not. Theres also more. The neckline is also a different shape the original has a much lower nuckline and its wider more like Sansa’s raven dress. The position of some of the leaves are also different. Not only that but if the look at the shape of the waistline the one on the original is much more defined and slimmer. Also the necklaces are very different too 

The original is made of paper and again very white however the newer one looks like its been glitz up a bit and is now silver and glittering possible like its made of metal. The thread/chain is also now silver as oppose to the white for the original its also thinner. It is sitting lower on the neckline on the original as well. A further change that I noticed is 

the pendants seem to be missing from the original. This could just be a bad quality photo so you can;t see them but I don’t know those pendants are rather prominent and I feel like they would stand out. Also is it me or does there seem to be more glitter/gems on the newer dress, it definitely seems to have more of a glitsy look about it to me. And there are still even more differences 

On the orginal dress the shoulder wings stick out straight as they do on Sansa’s dress yet in the newer version of the dress the shoulder wings are folded down. 

So in conclusion I do still think there is a good chance that this is evidence for a Gendrya endgame. I mean they went through the effort of giving the dress a make over and blinging it up. They changed the colour so now it fits in with the whole featherbed song. I just can’t think of any other reason why they would make that effort. So as @anotherwaywarddreamer suggested I do think there’s a good chance we might see these dresses in the show. In regards to the other two as well. I’m not sure if changes from the original paper designs were made not any that I can see obviously, I will look into them in more detail soon, but in their cases I don’t necessarily think it matters as the Sansa wedding dress is not an exact replica of the original outfit anyway so if they used it in the show no one will go oh that’s the same dress they’ve already used, they might notice the similarity but that probably works for the show. Also in regards to Brienne’s armour she’s had two sets in the show and both are exactly the same as each other just in different colours, one is gold and the other is a silvery greyish colour so again they can still use it as it will foloow the same pattern of costume changes for Brienne. So yes I will admit to my mistake but I will also say that if anything I’m now even more sure that gendrya is end game.

I’m not anti anything anon, so you never gotta worry about that! I have ships I like and ships I don’t and ships I’m indifferent about, but I’m a firm believer in the ship and let ship principle~ sadly bkdk is strictly platonic for me (I see them too much as sibs for it to work in a romantic way, at this point), but I do adore their relationship and the way Horikoshi is writing it TT^TT it’s def one of my favorite Bakugou relationships, such a wonderfully complex story 💕

I have in the past drawn them in AUs inspired by characters from other fandoms, if that’s what you’re asking! At the top of my head I can remember drawing them as Black⭐Star and Tsubaki from Soul Eater, Doumeki and Watanuki from xxxHolic and Jacuzzi and Nice from Baccano!, but I’m sure those are not the only ones... I’m never against that sort of AUs, if you have anything you’d like to see ask and I’ll see if I know the fandom you’re thinking about! :D

I’ve never, actually :thinking: the vld fandom is very scary to me so I try to keep away from it, ngl! I’ve also not watched past the first season of the cartoon itself so by now I don’t think I have the necessary information to make AUs based on that fandom, but the concept of my kids in space or piloting mechas is a wonderful one nonetheless haha

Oh heck thank you so much for being interested in something like that! I’ve actually thought about something of the like, but if I ever did it would be a small zine with pieces made specifically for it! I have to research the whole thing a bit more, but in case I’ll reach a point where it’s a concrete possibility I’d first post something to check the actual interest in it between everyone! ;^;

Okay I’m making this post for two reasons

One: I will now be tagging all Voltron Season 8 Spoilers under “#Voltron Season 8” so if y’all want to avoid that shit from me, including all reblogs and rants and shit (WHICH IM ABOUT TO GO ON ONE) please blacklist or ignore those posts! I will stop tagging on December 21 (and that’s a while away, but it’s one week after the actual season airs)

Now rant time (please skip if you wanna remain oblivious but this has to do with the supposed “leak”)

Okay, so now that I’ve officially dealt with that, I want to talk about this little “leak” situation. I will not be posting the picture because of the reason that this post is alerting to avoid spoilers and some people may want to avoid it and pictures take up a good chunk of posts so... yeah. (Also I know I could do two posts but it’s 1:37 am and I’m exhausted but I need to get this out of my system.)

First off, a description: people who’ve seen it know it’s a picture of Shiro and Roy, a character from the 80’s voltron (I believe) getting married and kissing. In the background there’s Coran, Pidge, lance, hunk- yadda yadda. That is not where I take issue. I actually support this photo (thought I’m incredibly doubtful of it being real- for all intensive purposes we’ll first act as it is and then I’ll go about how it might be fake bs real)

Let me explain:

LGBT Rep- albeit it would not be the rep we were expecting, but keep in mind there’s 13 episodes this season. We do not know if there’s a previous relationship, and for fucks sake y’all adam was a minor character that died. As much as I could hope that he might come back, it would be toxic to both shiro and Adam to rekindle that relationship. They couldn’t come to a compromise in their relationship so they split to do what they felt best for the both of them. For Shiro he wanted to spend his last few years living out his dream and Adam wanted shiro to stay on earth, and they just didn’t work out. It would’ve been incredibly bad for Adam to hang onto shiro and when he got back have to spend next to him at bedside as he died (which the show implied was basically,,, what was gonna happen) and Shiro knew how he wanted to spend his final days and wasn’t given reciprocated support. It was healthy for them to split. If Shiro finds something special in Roy, and they work together and Voltron executes it healthy, then for all intensive purposes y’all,,,, who cares as long as he’s h a p py and we’re getting healthy rep!!! For all we fucking know Roy might’ve been planned endgame for shiro from the beginning- may we recall that shiro and Adam weren’t even supposed to be lovers in the beginning.

A w e d d I n g- okay so this could fall under 1, but think about it. Not only would we be getting rep, but we’d be getting a canon wedding. We’d be getting two characters- two mlm characters who come together and get married and get a happily ever after.

Shiro moves on & finds new happiness- I briefly touched on this in one, but mostly about the Adashi thing. Shiro and Adam broke up before Kerberos, and while I’m sure that shiro had a few words to say to him- sorry’s and whatnot- Adam died as well. He has to move on. And for those of y’all that might claim it’s too soon- yeah shiro might grieve but he’s spent years in space with time to deal with his emotions after the breakup. There would be no rebound situation happening, and for shiro to be able to move on with someone who completes him and makes him happy is actually amazing writing! It’s like his arm in a way- he had a Galra arm and he got rid of it and now he has a new one and it’s healthier for him because it doesn’t hurt him, it doesn’t link to his past- he’s able to move on. That’s a good thing to do, and he’s had ample time...

Now my arguments about fake vs not

I’m gonna start right up with all the reasons it’s probably fake

All that text??? In front of it??? The yellow and grey shit? I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t seem very in place (for reference it says “do not copy” and “nbcu” repeating) - with the matt leak we got of the same exact quality, there was no text

“Property Of dreamworks animation Do not duplicate” - what the fuck,,, like why is that there?? Especially on a “leak” (which is the quality we get, so it’s not a Still voltron gives us as like here’s what to look forward too! And for clarification, I can justify maybe it’s there as like a showcase thing someone got ahold of, but even in a showcase they wouldn’t put that stuff there because it’s all people working on the process of the show why put that over)

Gonna be real here it’s mostly those two that seem really suspicious for working on a show...... but all the points it might very well be real

The art style is the same. Here’s the thing- people in this fandom are skill- and I mean fucking skilled- at making edits. But for a fake leak to go through all the work of making outfits (and multiple frames but we’ll get there) is... a lot, I’m going to be real. It doesn’t seem like something a fan would do just to fuck with everyone (but I’m not going to entirely doubt it I know better than that)

Multiple frames- If you look between the three stills, the time moves up and accurately. The first two are 01:22:42:02 to 01:22:43:18 and the third is 01:22:45:02, moving from holding hands to kissing and Voltron moves pretty fast so... assuming that’s hour minute second millisecond it’s actually about right (and as a bonus, the characters in the background move too- specifically hunk I notice, plus the zoom in and this like piece of confetti that moves and the background)

Noticeable characters- so if it wasn’t enough (and yeah I’m still asstroubled about that matt dies theory but I’ll save that for another day) chip is there. Pidge’s glasses and all while Pidge is sans glasses. Characters look noticably older, like post hospital (and what’s that thing to do with the sleeping I fucking sweAR)

Similar in design to the matt leaks, the timers (as previously mentioned) are in the same spot, and the frames are of the same quality as the matt leak was so hmm??

A point I’m not entirely sure what to do with:

It’s not colored- which I mean could just mean it’s still in production or it’s been filtered. I’m not sure

Look guys, real or not, don’t go getting pissed off and attacking the crew or other people no matter your opinion because of this - we don’t know if it’s real or not and we don’t need to start a feud because of this- just,,,, be kind.
