Hey everyone. Probably a long post. Not a very happy one. Tw for scary medical stuff, but it's not for me.

My husband spent the night in the hospital. Yesterday he called my mom and asked her to come get him from work because he felt dizzy and tingly on one side of his body and his vision was doubled, so she took him to the ER and called me. I got an Uber there and we stayed with him late. They did various tests including blood work and a CT scan and neurological tests and checked the pressure on his eyeballs and he passed every test with flying colors but his blood pressure and cholesterol were high and his eyes were rolling in different directions like plastic googly eyes and his pupils were super dilated and he couldn't focus and they couldn't figure out why so they admitted him for the night and gave him an MRI today.

Turns out he had a mild stroke in the thalamus. The neurologist said he dodged a bullet because he can walk and speak and his coordination is fine and both sides of his body are functioning the same, but his vision is still wacky because his eyes don't want to work together right now. He's gonna have to see a vision therapist and wear an eye patch but switch eyes every 4 hours while he's awake to strengthen both of his eyes. Since his depth perception is so bad right now he's going to have to practice driving in an empty parking lot before he can be on the road. He won't be going in to work tomorrow and I'm not sure when he'll be able to go back to work since he's a truck driver. He has to take an aspirin every day forever and he has a cholesterol medication to take.

I'll need to make a few adjustments to the way I cook for him and be mindful of the amount of sodium that goes into anything. I'll probably make salt free versions of the spice blends I use regularly so I can add salt as I see fit. The neurologist said other than salt and added sugars he doesn't need to really change his diet but I'm going to look up foods that can help him and ask my chiropractor for nutrition advice for him. As I've said in the past, my chiropractor is a licensed nutritionist and I've gotten really good sound nutrition advice from him before so if there are any foods that can help my husband, he will know. I did tell my husband I'll make whatever he wants for dinner this weekend and he requested chicken and dumplings so you better believe I'm gonna make him the best chicken and dumplings he's ever had. I mean my chicken and dumplings are already the best he's ever had but that's not the point.

My husband's best friend has been a saint through this whole ordeal. He's been calling and texting to check on us, asking if we need anything, he and his wife brought us dinner and got my husband's car from his work and brought it home and they'll do our grocery shopping tomorrow so I can stay home and look after him. Their young daughter even made my husband a get well card. These folks are like family to us and I'm so so thankful for their help in this trying time.

But then the next issue is going to be the hospital bill. We don't have any health insurance so we have to fill out financial assistance paperwork and hope it'll cover enough so we won't be buried under even more debt. And of course, getting by for however long he'll be out of work. Monday is a holiday so he has the day off anyway and he's got PTO days but I don't know how many. He is getting a paycheck tomorrow but idk how long it'll have to last. I'm trying to work on things for my Etsy shop because every little bit I can bring in helps. I'm also still working on my art and trying to get to a point I might feel justified offering commissions. I need to post more on my art blog and on my bluesky and try to get more of a following there so I might eventually be able to take commissions and maybe even start up a Patreon but I have to keep practicing and studying.

We are both in our early 30s, and he had a stroke at his age. It was probably caused by stress but we don't know for certain. Please please please, for the love of everything good in this world, take care of yourselves. Look after your health. Practice self care. I don't want this to happen to any of y'all. It's been so scary and we've both cried a lot today. As much as I've been crying, I have to be strong for him and support him when he breaks down. He's not used to being scared and sad, especially for himself, and he doesn't really know how to handle it.

He's home and sleeping now. I currently have a migraine, the first I've had in over a week since getting on a new medication for it and it's probably being caused by a mix of the stress of the last 2 days and I might also have some ribs out of place because the chairs beside the beds both in the ER and in the room they moved him to wrecked my back. But unless it escalates bad enough to render my psych meds ineffective and make me uncoordinated and incapacitated, I'm still going to be taking care of my husband in whatever way I can.

so i started worshipping apollo about a month ago, and i still don’t really know what i’m doing and i have a couple questions about it i was hoping you could help with.

how do you devote an action to the gods? i’ve seen lots of stuff talking about devotional actions you can do, but not really anything about how to actually devote them to the gods. do you just do it? do you think of them while you’re doing it? do you tell them “hey, i’m doing this and devoting it to you”?

how long do you recommend i meditate after praying?

what are some good places to buy statues, and are there any books/resources you recommend for beginners?

is cleansing/purifying/cleaning yourself before praying something i should be doing or is it more of a personal decision?

i know hellenism and worship are very personal things and differ a lot person to person, so i understand if you’re not able to answer all of these. thank you!

Ok amig@, this will be a long one, so bear with me.

I think it is great that you are doing research and beginning your own path towards devotion, I'm honestly flattered you chose me to such an ask. Lemme see if I can give ya some pointers.

I do believe a votive act can be dedicated in thought, but I mainly address in prayer before it or after the fact towards a deity (or deities) related to the act. Like, often I dedicate exercising to Herakles, Apollon, Eros, Ares and Hermes, pouring a simple water libation towards Them in the front garden of my gym and uttering a prayer of my making directly addressing this group of Gods as the Theoi Gymnastikoi ("Gods of the Gymnasium"), invoking Them and asking for Their blessings, as I dedicate exercising towards Them alongside a water libation.

Now, for the meditation one - Follow your gut! I like to take a bit of time whenever I can after I make my offerings in ritual, quietly contemplating for a few minutes. Sometimes it takes pretty long for me, sometimes it's rather quick.

Well, regarding statues and such, I guess Etsy might serve you well, but alas, I live in Brazil and my main go-to's are unavailable for most of my following, I reckon. As for books and readings, I do have this post for it.

I mean, as for the purification part, I feel like it's a good custom to keep. Some of the most ancient texts from Homer and Hesiod have sections where purification is either stated or represented as an important element on our devotion. I usually prepare a bit of khernips (lustral water, check this post too) in formal rituals or take a bath beforehand (most likely both). In another situation or for smaller rituais, just washing hands, chewing on a laurel leaf or something of the sort might work just fine.

I know this is a lot to take in at once, so please, move slowly - take your time to learn as you can. My first altar was literally on a shoebox, you'll be fine with time and growth. Trust your heart, trust the Gods and may Apollon be with you at every little step taken.

It's been a year already it seems! Welcome to the mental illness!

A year ago my friends introduced me to star wars, and it wasn't the original trilogy that made my autism go brrrrr, no it was the prequels with it's windows XP background fight scene in TPM that got to me.

Not long after, today in fact, is when I discovered Obikin and now every time I see fanart of them together I kick my feet and giggle at how much I love them.

To personally celebrate one year of being in this fandom I have decided to show y'all just how bad it's gotten lol. I will be going over my book collection as well as my pin collection. (Help my wallet is screaming at me)

Now you might notice that book five of Jedi apprentice is missing from this, that's because I currently have it out and have been staring at it for MONTHS at this point because I absolutely despise Qui-Gon in this series and I know he's going to for some reason abandon Obi on a civil war torn planet instead of taking him to space Mcdonalds!

Despite the fact that I'm more obsessed with the prequels if I see a book I don't have at thrift stores or second hand book shops I can't help myself but grab it, especially since one character in particular really fascinates me, and that's good ol' Anakin Solo and the sadly less talked about Ken. I wanna know why Leia decided to name her kid off of the father she never knew and the father that also tortured her. And I just really like Ken, he never appears outside of two books but he will forever be canon in my head because he's Palpatine's GRANDSON. And he also says he's just Ken (Barbie flashbacks)

Now these, these are all the ffg ttrpg books I own for star wars! There's one of the saga edition and I've also been using the essential guides for ideas when I GM our campaign. Should anyone want information that one of these books has feel free to DM me and I'll send what I find! (Not seen is my Forces and Destiny core rulebook and chronicles of the Gatekeeper, both out because I'm using them for ideas lol)

These are the two zines I own! I was lucky enough to come into this fandom when nightfall was doing preorders and I managed to snag one! Found is a found family based zine I actually found on Ebay!

Oh boy...Welcome to what I can only describe as a pure concentrated form of my obsession with Obikin. Admittedly this idea wasn't an original thought, it was inspired by discovering @aigoos pinboard design and it inspired me to make my own! The board is actually handmade by me! I bought a pinboard at Michael's and then went to a local fabric shop where I got this beautiful fabric! It isn't the most clean cut well put together board but it's mine! :3

These are hilariously up there as being my favorite keychains! They're from Nightfall zine!

Look at my boys cuddling, look at them, this is the cutest most adorable enamel pin I own and I would slaughter all the younglings in the temple for them.

And as you can see this is the very same pin I posted about days ago where I was concerned that it might be a scam or that the seller was no longer active, great news they are! They hadn't uploaded anything since last year but now it appears they're back! The back of the pin actually says "I loved you!" and I did in fact squeal like a school girl when I saw that! 🤣

This is the brotherhood 2 pin by Foundling mercantile and I wasn't originally going to buy this, I had originally woken up to get the starfighters and Bunnywan/Nyanakin pins which while currently unavailable on Foundling you can still get from RussianRita on Etsy! (They're also who I got the boy's cuddling from!)

Here we have my boys, just chilling, killing, and while unfortunately my phone camera doesn't show it Obi-Wan's lightsaber glows in the dark! (It was very important that I mention this I absolutely adore glow in the dark stuff!)

So really fun fact about these! I had messaged the seller, Deileeart, on Etsy because they hadn't gotten a review since last year so I was worried that they were no longer selling, only for them to immediately respond and next thing I know everything's 75% off! I obviously had to grab them, they're so smol and cute!

Then up top we have my plushies/figures! The first three plushies are by @mouyashii and they're incredibly soft! Padme especially and I don't know why lol! Anakin also has darth vader's helmet underneath his robes!

The one's on top of each other are their tsum tsums! Poor perpetually splitting Anakin, the second Obi gets removed he'll just kill me.

Then the last two are by @saeuchelle! They're connected by a keychain and it's so incredibly satisfying to spin them by that chain in between my fingers!

Also Obi has just a wee bit of a "tabard" problem, it never goes down! 🤣

And that's all of them! (for now) I'll probably start showing off new merch I get in the future because I gain great joy from talking about them! They're my favorite lil guys after all!

Man I need some help making some anti-GW propaganda but I'm broke. I genuinely think if we can get everyone together like the Hell Divers community we might be able to get the bastards to lower their prices instead of hiking them up again!

Imagine GW's reaction to mass 3d printing artwork. Posters of 3d printers with a line of super soldiers marching out, space marines dying in a last stand holding a gw banner as they're overwhelmed by 3d printed armies, a printer unleashing a full legion of models for the same price gw has you pay for five. Stuff like this! Fuck I wish I stuck to my digital media classes!

Prices are higher than ever in our day to day lives! We can't just allow one of our major escapes to be taken from our grasps for no reason beyond the greed of scumbag CEO's! We're fighting and winning against the gaming companies! We need to fight GW!

Remember that you can boycott gw by using third parties! 3d printing if you have a printer is a great option (websites like cults3d and myminifactory are my go to) and if you don't have a printer many 3d modelers have deals with Etsy sellers to distribute their pre-printed products!

While I do want a very public representation of our boycott and spread the word, what's more important is making GW lose money!

They need to lower their prices and gives us plastic or we'll give them resin!

Canada Post is on strike as of today, which means I lose the way I pay for my life during the time of year small artists might actually make money. On the surface, this is a dispute between the union wanting a cost of living wage and Canada Post desperately trying to keep their costs down so people will still use them.

Thing is, I don't have a lot of choice. I have to use them.

The real issue here is Amazon. This is Jeff Bezos' fault at the foundation, but also, kinda everyone's fault. I know, I know, we're reliant on Amazon for a lot of things because we're all so fucking broke because Bezos has all of the money. But just like economists predicted, the Amazon model sets expectations.

I am a small artist. I make everything with my own two hands - even my prints. Every single part of what I do is done by me. And I get yelled at quite a bit for things taking long or items getting lost or shipping costing too much. When you demand money back on Etsy, the artist pays for it, not Etsy. And in my case, I've already honoured my side of the deal - making and shipping the item. But I'm at fault if stuff gets lost, even if I did everything perfectly. And a lot of tiny artists like me hide the real shipping costs. If you think the shipping rate on stuff seems decent, I guarantee you it's cuz the artist is paying for half of it, they just hide it in the price of the item because we know high shipping prices make people not buy our stuff.

We aren't Amazon. We're not fulfillment centres. We don't have our own trucks taking everything everywhere. I'm carefully sourcing, creating, and packing stuff by myself, usually walking it to the post office.

Buy local, but also, buy small. I mean, you can't buy anything to be shipped in Canada right now, but if and when we get our service back, please support small artists. You're literally giving us money to live, and to keep making new things. This is going to make Christmas really, really shitty for a lot of people, myself included, and this year was already pretty shitty.

Some of you might already know that I have a small Etsy shop selling printable items.

I opened the shop at the end of January this year. Due to various circumstances, I couldn't update it until last month, which is when we made our first sale. Since then, we've gained some traction and sold a few more items.

I'm thrilled with the progress, but it's not without its challenges.

Recently, customers have reported issues accessing the files they purchased. They downloaded blank files, which I later found out were not damaged or blank. The issue is that customers using Apple devices cannot open RAR files. In all my listings (except for wallpapers due to their size), I’ve mentioned that the items are in RAR format.

Unfortunately, this problem led to some customers leaving 1-star reviews.

I've done my best to help them access the files, but the 1-star reviews remain, and they are currently the only reviews on my shop. This negatively impacts my shop's reputation and affects my progress toward becoming a Star Seller, which requires an average rating of 4.8.

Pewter Star of David

YAAAAY!! Sorry if this is boring to y'all but i figure you listened to me talk about other adult life stuff, this might be humble and boring but it's actually really exciting for me and like, is my daily life's work xD

I didn't sculpt this one, it's one of hundreds of designs we bought molds for when we started this pewter business back in 2018, but it's our work to cast and sand and polish and suspend it all pretty :D

Like. On my worst days, i just do pewter because this pays the bills and it's over of very few job opportunities my weird ass glitchy body can actually handle doing. Those are the days I feel terrible because I'm not bringing any passion into my work.

Those days are getting less and less.

I'm really happy with this one. Like. This is a little sacred symbol that's getting sent off into the world to be someone else's Precious Thing. Whether its a symbol like this or even just something pretty like a flower, i just... I dunno. I love the idea that every piece of jewelry we make actually *matters* because they're gonna be an anchor point of memories for some people.

Then I fell asleep at the subway back home and sat on the floor when there weren't seats available, then I had a Colacao - uh. Chocolate milk/hot cocoa?? And now I'm gonna decorate my room with some prints of my own art I exhibited at my stand (they're not in the picture because I put them up later </3) and some other prints I bought for myself!

I might come back later with some doodles to celebrate that the day is over and that it's gone well!!

Little rant

Today we were supposed to do our monthly art walk which brings in 5k people. I do it every month because the sales helps cover my rent.

Yesterday we had a tornado and today they said weather conditions were expected to be the same. I made the call around noon that me and my artists in our art studio would be closed cause it’s a metal fucking warehouse.

Tell me why they told us nothing until 2 HOURS before the event that it’s continuing. An indoor/outdoor event with no shelter. And what happened?

Yeah we got a fucking tornado warning right when it started. So they canceled it anyways and wasted everyone’s time and safety. I’m just frustrated from the lack of sense. Because I’m technically “a community figure” with all I do, people kept asking me and I told them all don’t be a fucking idiot and stay home. Why did I have to be the logical one to not tell people to amass in large groups outside when there might be hail?

I’m just over it here. If you wanna be nice, I have a sale going on in my Etsy cause I’m trying to make up losing a large portion of income. There’s a small pride sale happening cause I’m suppose to travel next week to Colorado for work.

Important Shop Update!

Hi everyone,

I got some stuff I wanted to share about the site. Squarespace decided to do the maximum capitalism thing and made the decision that on the basic tier of their webservice, you can't run a sale anymore. Because of this change in their operations and pricing and whatever, I can't honor your returning coupon codes anymore on my personal site, and I'm not willing to cough up an extra $100 a year to host up a website with them and be able to run a sale (honestly it's just...so dumb).

So! What does that mean? It just means everything will be now staying on the Etsy storefront -- I'll be making inventory adjustments because I was doing some manual splitting between that storefront versus the Etsy one, but no more!

All the discounts that were on the other site is now live on Etsy. We'll also be holding a Spring Break sale starting on the 13th, so keep your eyes open here or on Bluesky or elsewhere for news on that.

Yeah, I spoke too soon.

These past few months have put me through the wringer. Super stressful work environment, and new meds messing with both my mental and physical health. I'm taking steps to change the meds, and banish this nasty depression it has kept me trapped in. I can only apologize for how long it's been since my last update, though I did my best to keep writing.

This chapter might be a bit smaller than what they usually are, but it was hard-fought for. I hope you all like it, and thanks for being patient with me.

Chrysanthemum

The alarm replayed across the air, ominous and oppressive. Chrys looked towards the sound, the weight of the message sinking under her skin. Never before had she found herself in this situation; never again did she want to. The worry that gnawed at her stomach threatened to make her vomit, and the last thing anyone needed was for her to bring her lunch back out for a visit. She forced the sensation down from the back of her throat, and turned to face her partner, ready to follow whatever instructions he had for her. 

“Sun, what are you—”

Yet she stood alone. The entrance doors clicked shut, broadcasting what must have been his departure. For him to leave without a word and so abruptly was unlike him. 

Wait, what even are our protocols? What am I supposed to be doing here??

The two attendants from the Atrium stood out against the sea of quietly occupied children. If anyone here might have a shot of giving her some kind of guidance, her best bet was from other employees.

“Uh, hey,” Chrys asked, hurrying over, doing her best to project some sort of veneer of calm, lest her anxiety take control. “Everything seemed fine when I left. What the heck happened?”

Neither moved to look at her, or acknowledged that she’d spoken. Their game of “Go Fish” was more interesting, eyes locked on their individual sets of cards. Chrys waited, arms crossed over her chest, gaze pointed, until someone caved. The one on the right took that title; A heavyset, disheveled looking man with greasy hair, who offered only a measly, nonchalant shrug in consolation. 

 “Eh, she must have slipped from the group while we were walking back. Kid was there when we lined up.”

Soon the other joined in, a small, diminutive stick of a woman, likely around the same middle age as her counterpart. She clicked her teeth and added a card to the center pile. “My guess is she got distracted by something we walked past and snuck off. I’ve heard of stuff like that happening from some of the other staff. Hell, this place is like temptation in a bottle for kids.”

Chrys’s composure threatened to crack. Could they not hear themselves right now? Her tone took on a sharp edge. “What do you mean “you guess”? Aren’t you worried about her?”

“Oh chill, she’ll be fine.” The male attendant answered, unfazed. “They’ll send every mechanical bozo they’ve got in this place after her, like that creepazoid clown you’ve got here. Soon as the lights go off she won’t stay missing for long, I can tell you that.”

Chrys bristled. She didn’t appreciate the blatant, derogatory dig. “Is that about Sun?”

“Nah, the other one.” The same attendant answered. “After all, the guy’s part of security now, it’s his job to handle shit like this.”

Just then, every light in the vicinity began to fade, blanketing the daycare in a soft but artificial twilight. Some of the children shouted in mock terror, their cheeky giggles giving away their true amusement. Chrys startled out of reflex, eyes wide as she watched the scenery take on new life around her. 

Stars. So, so many stars. 

On every post, every wall, every support beam, even the ceiling and the fake clouds dangling overhead, glow-in-the-dark stars greeted her with their nostalgic light. Never would she have thought that the cheap ones she used to have decorating the ceiling of her childhood bedroom might be able to provide any sort of substantial light, but here they were, their collective amount—and likely higher quality—creating more than enough illumination to easily see by.

“See? Right on cue.” The attendant continued. “I bet you he’s the one who finds her first. Five minutes, tops.”

“Nah, it’ll be Roxy. Fast is like her whole thing. Ten bucks.” The woman chimed in with a barking laugh.

“Ha! You’re on!”

In the background of their grating banter, a new message spoke through the intercom, pulling Chrys from the conversation.

“ATTENTION ALL GUESTS: PLEASE REMAIN IN PLACE. OUR ANIMATRONIC STAFF AND SECURITY BOTS ARE CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING. THEIR SCANS ARE FOR IDENTIFICATION PURPOSES ONLY. LOCKDOWN WILL REMAIN IN PLACE UNTIL THE MISSING CHILD IS IDENTIFIED AND RECOVERED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION.”

The automated voice spoke with an ignorable note of authority, demanding obedience through command. She could only imagine how frightening this situation must be to the other children throughout the pizzaplex; To go from having the time of their lives one instant, to then finding themselves in a world of darkness and danger the next. At least the children under her responsibility seemed impervious to this, safe and secluded as they were here in the Daycare. A small blessing.

Marigold, however, could afford no such luxury. Wherever she was, odds were that she was alone, overwhelmed, without anyone to guide or comfort her. And if anyone with less than innocent intentions found her before one of the animatronics could… she closed her eyes against such a thought. The math, however, remained clear; With each minute that ticked by, the risk of this turning into a catastrophe grew. 

There had to be something she could do, anything to help speed things along. In a building this large, with all the various nooks and crannies she might have wandered into, going about this in a blind sweep would be far too tedious. Kids were masters of subverting your expectations, able to get themselves stuck in the most ridiculous of places. Pressing her palm to her forehead, Chrys dug through her memories, seeking anything notable, any sort of outlier that might give her some insight into whatever was going on in that little girl’s mind.

She’d been teary and reluctant to leave her mother when she’d arrived. Commonplace, most children suffered from some form of separation anxiety at that age. She played, she laughed, she had fun… and seemed hellbent on continually bringing up a certain ambiguous “big brother” every chance she could get. Was that the missing key? What was it she had said about him again? Something about wanting to share a pizza together, that he was some grown up that worked at some beach…

No, wait, that wasn’t it. She’d said here at the beach. Did… did she mean the pizzaplex? 

“Hey,” Chrys said, interjecting herself back into the conversation. “Is there anywhere in the Pizzaplex that’s beach themed, or, I don’t know, might be considered kinda “beach-y”? Someplace like that?”

The two attendants shared a look of confusion, glancing at the other for mutual confirmation that they’d heard her right. 

“Uh, not really.” The man replied, in a tone that made clear what he thought of her question. “The big things are the band performances, golf, the raceway…. everything else is pretty standard kid stuff, like the arcades. It ain’t really a “beach-y” kinda place, if you catch my drift.”

The woman piped in with a snap of her fingers. “Oh, hey now, isn’t one of the free zones pirate themed? They might have some beach decor or something.”

“Oh yeah, Kids Cove, right? I always forget about that place. Hasn’t it been, like, under construction or renovations for forever or something?”

“Yeah, something like that.”

Internally, Chrys vibrated. It may only be a nugget, but this was more of a lead than she had thirty seconds ago, and she’d be a fool to dismiss it. 

“Yes! That’s got to be it! Marigold had said something earlier that makes me think that might be where she’s gone! We have to let someone know. How do we contact Sun? Or Moon? Is there a way we can ping them or something?” 

The pair scoffed at her. 

“Who do you think we are, Vanessa? She’s the only one with direct line access to those overpriced tin cans.” The man patted the seat between the two of them. “Listen, why not sit down and relax with us for a second? I’m sure someone will find her soon, and everything will be just fine. I promise.”

His voice dripped with a syrupy sarcasm, the kind that came across as both patronizing and belittling. In her veins, her blood boiled. A little girl was out there somewhere, likely now having the worst birthday of her life, and they weren’t willing to lift a single finger to help her? To even try?

No. Unacceptable. 

“Fine. If you won’t help me, then I’ll just go out there and find a way to tell them myself. Stay with the rest of the kids until I get back. Don’t work too hard now.”

 Without giving either of the two a chance to retort, she pivoted and left, marching her way to the entrance of the daycare, stopping only once to grab a flashlight from the charging station mounted on the wall behind the security desk before stepping beyond the gate. 

There was no way she was going to let that little girl suffer any longer than was necessary.

Starting and Building Your Kawaii Wardrobe – Where to Shop, DIY's, and more!

Ciao lovelies! In the spirit of the New Year, I know some of you may have a New Year’s resolution to “Try new things” or “dress in cute fashion”, or something like it! Maybe your New Year’s Resolution is to try out dressing in kawaii inspired fashion! Maybe you already dress in kawaii fashion but are always looking to expand your wardrobe! Well, today’s post can help, because today we are talking about how to start and build a kawaii wardrobe! I’m going to be giving my shopping tips, links to plenty of DIYs, and more that can help you in your kawaii fashion journey! Let’s go!

Today I’ll be talking about general “Kawaii-Inspired” fashion, not one specific style of Kawaii fashion.

Finding Kawaii Inspired Clothing!

-          If you’re on a budget, my recommendation is to shop in Thrift Stores! You can find really cute pastel sweaters at thrift stores, you can find really cute skirts and dresses, and sometimes even really nice handbags! I have found lots of items that work for a general “kawaii-alternative” fashion look in thrift stores! You really never know what you could find there. I’ve found dresses, skirts, sweaters, bags, and blouses all for really good prices, and all worked for kawaii fashion. You can even find cute home décor and sometimes even cute jewelry! Unsure where to start when it comes to thrifting or just want some tips? Check out our top 5 tips for Thrift Shopping!

-          Another great place to look for “kawaii-inspired” clothing is Hot Topic or Forever 21! You can find cute overalls/overall dresses, t-shirts, skirts, skater dresses, knee and thigh high socks, and other cute clothing! The only problem with these stores is that they can be somewhat expensive.

-          Another option for getting kawaii clothing is to make it yourself! Fabric stores like JoAnn even have patterns you can use if you don’t like drafting your own. And there are plenty of good clothing tutorials online, Yumi King’s channel has many if you search far back in her videos (a good way to do this is to order the videos from “Oldest First”). 

-          If making clothes from scratch isn’t your thing, you can always modify clothing to suit your needs! We actually have some clothing modification tutorials, and I will be trying to make more this summer. Our Clothing-Mod tutorials include: Adding Cat Ears to a Hoodie, Shoe Upgrade, DIY Cutsew from a T-shirt, and DIY T-shirt into Tank Top.

Finding Kawaii Inspired Accessories!

-          You can always find kawaii looking accessories in certain shops, you just have to know where to look! Some good stores to look for kawaii accessories in are: Claires, Icing, and Hot Topic! My best advice is to always look through their clearance section! You can find really cute stuff on sale often there.

-          Another place to find cute accessories is in the kid’s section of stores. This might seem weird at first, but kid’s necklaces can be altered into cute bracelets, and you can use charms and such from kid’s jewelry to make into earrings, rings, and brooches. 

-          Another great place to find cute accessories is Etsy! There are lots of stores on Etsy that sell cute handmade accessories! Same with Storenvy. The only downside to searching these places for cute handmade jewelry is the higher prices, but you are supporting small businesses, so I say it’s worth it!

-          Lastly, you can also make your own kawaii jewelry! Kawaii charms and other jewelry findings can be bought rather cheaply in lots from Etsy or Aliexpress, and you can make yourself a whole collection of cute accessories! I went out today to pick up meds and get my covid and flu shots (was gonna get the sat but had to reschedule) and then went to goodwill for a bit to look for some work clothes (need some like black underlayers and could use an alternate pair of boots cause like my usual work boots are steel toe and kinda heavy for like Halloween acting where I might be like crawling around and my fashion boots and getting pretty worn out and they've got the kind of lace up things that come undone if you're also, like, crawling around.. need crawling around boots), ended up finding some stuff I needed + couple extra goodies including some little gifts for my mom, I've been feeling less tense spending money this week knowing I'll have a paycheck incoming, MOSTLY it has just been necessities like pet stuff or like work related thing like I preemptively ordered some clothes online as so if I can't find even cheaper stuff irl before work starts I have it but otherwise I can totes return it, but even that has been a relief like yay I'm super prepared here, I got black long sleeve shirts because I'm gonna be outside so this way I won't freeze, I did in fact find some perfect boots at goodwill today a little on the higher side for second hand faux leather at like $15 but I'm like, but you know what I'll be paid I don't need to leave behind what I need to be comfy and regret it if I can't find anything else just cause I'm like "well maybe if they were $10 🙄" cause that's the thing like I'm always having to forgo my comfort to shave off dollars here and there it sucks!! Ultimately it's not gonna be like an ENORMOUS check it's a seasonal gig with only a certain amount of days buts it's still significantly more money I usually rake in per month so

I've made like one single more luxurious purchase of a couple skincare things cause I'm like scraping the end of my last jar of moisturizer and I really need to do something about my facial hair coming in it's getting itchy and feels kinda dry, I perused reddit and men say like working a quality balm into it down to the follicles before bed really helps, and wouldnt you know it the etsy shop that makes the moisturizers I really like makes a beard balm too??? 🥺 I'm using the word luxurious so loosely though like even that's not all that expensive it's just like fhjdgjkf I almost never buy any special things for myself these days like Me as a person is just not in my budget, but anyway that's probably mostly it for now at least until I find our like when checks get deposited like if it's weekly, biweekly, or what, and at the end of the whole season I'd like to see what my checking account looks like after evenings all deposited and my credit card balance is at 0
