Good Omens, OFMD (Stede is my darling), Loki, and Mothman. I make fanart and original art, don’t ask me what it’s called I have no idea. It’s made of sequins and paint and stitches. You can check my ig/tt if you wanna see more @breeynmccarney 🖤

I write pretty niche stuff and it's for me and legit like six other people but they're so supportive and enthusiastic I'm fricken thrilled to write for my tiny corner of weirdos. I love you six readers SO MUCH you know who you are
Dude it is SO FUN and EXCITING to see a reoccurring reader. If you've commented a handful of times on an author's work, I guarantee that they recognize you. You can't imagine how many times I've excitedly informed my friends "the person with the funny cat image commented!" "- anon is back!!!!" and the friends've recognized who I was talking about because I talk about my commenters so often LOL. We love you all!!!

I think I mostly do my own thing until I hit snags - then I will study up on the problems I'm having both by reading stories I think are good and trying to work out what makes them good, and reading writer's advice. I also have incredible mentors/betas who have helped nurture and make my writing so much better. I've definitely benefitted most from the community of writers I'm so lucky to be in
Fic writers: have you ever studied writing as a craft (formally or not) or do you just do your thing?

Canada Post is on strike as of today, which means I lose the way I pay for my life during the time of year small artists might actually make money. On the surface, this is a dispute between the union wanting a cost of living wage and Canada Post desperately trying to keep their costs down so people will still use them.
Thing is, I don't have a lot of choice. I have to use them.
The real issue here is Amazon. This is Jeff Bezos' fault at the foundation, but also, kinda everyone's fault. I know, I know, we're reliant on Amazon for a lot of things because we're all so fucking broke because Bezos has all of the money. But just like economists predicted, the Amazon model sets expectations.
I am a small artist. I make everything with my own two hands - even my prints. Every single part of what I do is done by me. And I get yelled at quite a bit for things taking long or items getting lost or shipping costing too much. When you demand money back on Etsy, the artist pays for it, not Etsy. And in my case, I've already honoured my side of the deal - making and shipping the item. But I'm at fault if stuff gets lost, even if I did everything perfectly. And a lot of tiny artists like me hide the real shipping costs. If you think the shipping rate on stuff seems decent, I guarantee you it's cuz the artist is paying for half of it, they just hide it in the price of the item because we know high shipping prices make people not buy our stuff.
We aren't Amazon. We're not fulfillment centres. We don't have our own trucks taking everything everywhere. I'm carefully sourcing, creating, and packing stuff by myself, usually walking it to the post office.
Buy local, but also, buy small. I mean, you can't buy anything to be shipped in Canada right now, but if and when we get our service back, please support small artists. You're literally giving us money to live, and to keep making new things. This is going to make Christmas really, really shitty for a lot of people, myself included, and this year was already pretty shitty.
Also, I love you, so many of you *have* supported me, and it means the world 🖤 Thank you

I got a part time job in a little local farmer's butcher shop recently. I am excited about learning the art of butching. The shop is pretty tiny, the largest space is the retail space out front with the display cases. There are usually four of us working, three people in the back doing the breaking down of stuff, and I bat back and forth between the back and front depending how busy it is - the whole space is very compact, and there are large doors into the fridges. So everyone does a very careful dance, knocks on doors, constantly saying "behind you" and "behind you, sharp" if holding a knife. I was making some of the Ed kitty bell collars the other day and of course I have one for myself, and I'm wondering if the crew would find it funny or annoying if I wear my bell while working. They'd always know where I am and the shop door is always ringing anyway, lol, I might have found the perfect place for this accessory that is not a con

I've never been explicit about this because I'm a Fandom Old, and back in the day it was simply understood that anything on the Internet was fair game to do with what you wish, but: if you see a story of mine out there and you like it, download it. Fuck if I care. Keep it for yourself, distribute it to friends, print copies for yourself and your friends, mail it to people, I don't give a shit. As long as you're not exchanging money, I couldn't care less. And tbh you should be doing this with all fanfics you love - print them, save them, put them on a flash drive or a hard drive or share them with friends, whatever. Fanfic authors these days are really fucking precious about their fics, but honestly we're probably going to start seeing queer art being disappeared (especially in the US under the next president) so do whatever you can to archive the things you love to read. Even if that means just printing them out and sticking them in a binder for yourself to read as a bedtime story.

I'd say most people. Natural talent can give someone the oomph to practice more but most of us - 99.9% of us - pretty much all suck at the beginning. Don't let that 1% fool you. Practice the Thing and you'll get better at it, I promise.
many of the ppl who are good at something have practiced copiously. practice copiously!!! you do not have to be naturally talented at something to do it well!!!!
