Stxeli: A friend? Suuuuure
Here is another chapter of the series! I wanted to have a cute filler during the midst of the arc. Lemme know what you guys think! Enjoy~!!
Stxeli series
--------------
“Easy on the shoulders, don't be too stiff when aiming at the target” Eytukan patiently instructs the younger children. They were young, some around and older stxeli’s age. Normally tsu’tey would be incharge of teaching the little ones, but he has his own group just about ready to go through the finale stages of iknimaya. Eyutukan has no heart in distracting his best warrior with some less important task.
Not only that, but as olo’eyktan, its his duty to ensure the new generation the ways of their life. They are learning and mistakes are bound to happen. Eytukan is patient. Not everyone is born already knowing things.Besides, it makes him happy to know his people flourish and find comfort that the future is safe.
“Sempu!” stxeli shouts happily as she and a few young girls and adult women arrive bringing food to the young boys. Eytukan calls for a break, and the boys happily go to their mothers or sisters and enjoy a mid day meal.
Eytukan takes his daughter into his arms and hugs her. She giggles happily, his daughter shows him his meal.
“Sa’nu made it extra yummy for you,” she says.
“Then I shall appreciate her craft with every bite” eytukan accepts. Sitting down together, they both started to eat and chatted a bit.
“Sa’nu is cooking tonight, she is going to teach me how to cook smoked yerik meat” stxeli happily says as she swings her legs back and forth.
“It will turn out delicious” eytukan encourages. His little girl, growing up so fast. Already learning the family recipes. Perhaps one day she will craft her own tasty meal and present it to the family. All was good until someone walked forward.
“Olo’eytkan, stxeli”
Kame. Young boy, only 1 year older than stxeli. While not the strongest in his training group, kame is growing rapidly and learns very fast. He is patient and helps his fellow brethren who are slower or struggling with something. He is like a peaceful, more nicer version of tsu’tey. Perhaps after a few more trainings, eytukan might pass the word to tsu’tey. See what he thinks.
But right now, eytukan has a bigger problem.
“Speak boy, is something wrong?” he asks. Kame shakes his head, smiling softly.
“No sir, I have something for stxeli, a gift”
“I dont like him”
“He is just a child”
“So is stxeli”
“It was an innocent act”
“No, he knew what he was doing”
“They barely knew each other”
“That is how everyone starts off”
Mo’at was fixing eytukan’s headpiece as he angrily paced back and forth. The tsahik had neytiri take stxeli to her hammock while their parents chat more privately. Hours ago kame gifted stxeli a few flowers that she was specifically looking for. The young girl was so happy and grateful, she hugged Kame and offered half of her meal to him. This did not set well with eytukan.
“I will teach stxeli how to climb better” he states.
“My love, even the best struggle to reach those flowers. To know kame managed, he is on his way to be a mighty warrior, any lady would be lucky to have him in the future” mo’at comments.
[stxeli might be the lucky one..] she thought. Better to not share with her mate. His heart might give up.
Getting up, she goes over to calm him. Having their eyes meet.
“Mawey eytukan, they are children-”
“No for long-”
“Sssshhhhh…..they are children. They might grow to be friends. Kame is a young boy with potential, perhaps there will be nothing between them. Only mutual friendship. So please, ease your heart”
Eywa hears this, too bad she has other plans.
“Stxeli, I brought more flowers for you” kame announces the next morning. Stxeli was trying up her mother’s healing tent when he entered. Holding a basket full of freshly picked flowers. Light blue tiny flowers. Perfect.
“Thank you kame, come come, let me give you something” she says. Kame puts the basket aside as he watches what stxeli will do. The young girl grabs a gourd, large compared to her size. Grabbing a bowl, she pours a pinkish liquid while releasing a divine familiar smell.
“Here, have a sip” stxeli offers the bowl to kame who gladly accepts. Taking a sip, he savors the taste.
“Is this yovo fruit? It tastes like it's mixed with something else…” he comments. Stxeli shakes her head.
“Yes! Its yovo fruit mixed with the nectar of the flowers. It's super yummy and it helps boost your energy!”
Kame looks at stxeli in awe. Admiring her creativity. He drinks some more, perhaps he should bring more flowers to her.
“What is that?” eytukan asks his little girl.
It was dinner time, the whole family was together along with tsu’tey. They were eating calmly until the olo’eyktan noticed something new. Stxeli was wearing a bracelet decorated with certain flowers.
Mo’at lifts her daughter's wrist to admire the new piece.
“Isn't it pretty? Kame made it for me with the flowers he brought” stxeli said innocently. Unknownst to her, it raises alarms for three blue heads.
“Who is kame?” Tsu'tey asks.
Stxeli is all too happy to answer, “he is training under sempu with other kids. I go bring food to sempu, and kame comes to give me pretty flowers. I made yummy yovo juice and mixed the flower nectar. It tastes so yummy, kame tried it! He liked it too! So as a thank you, he made me this bracelet. I love it so much, I'm never ever taking it off! Kame is so cool!”
Every word she spoke, every praise she gave to kame, it brought anger to her father, sister, and now her brother figure, tsu’tey.
Mo’at notices it and smiles.
“He seems to be a wonderful boy ma’ite”
Eytukan gave her a look, knowing damn well what she is doing.
Stxeli’s eyes sparkle at her mothers comment.
“He is sa’nu! He is so kind, strong, and tall! And kame already knows….”
Neytiri is very protective of her baby sister. She knows that, her parents know that, everyone knows that. Tsu’tey is no different either. They both care for stxeli very much, spoil her even. But its all out of love. They always imagined stxeli would grow happy, strong, and fulfilling any dream she desires.
Yet they forget, stxeli is growing and one day will become a woman.
Once she is of age, she will be eligible to find someone suitable.
Everyone in the family hopes it will never happen. Too far into the future to worry about that.
Except, Kame has entered the fray.
“I'm with father, this kame boy is getting too close to stxeli” neytiri tells tsu’tey as they both were training their students. Tsu’tey hums in agreement. They have their hands full already. Eytukan is busy and mo’at can only hold her baby close to her for a certain time before stxeli gets bored.
“We can forbid the boy from seeing stxeli” tsu’tey suggest.
Neytiri shakes her head, “no, it would be unfair and an abuse of our position. We already restricted stxeli as well”
They dont want to hurt the children's feelings but they also dont want the two getting closer.
“I will personally see how the boy is fairing in the olo’eyktans training. If he is good as stxeli….praises. I can always suggest I train him personally” tsu’tey offers.
“If he goes with you….then that would be less time for stxeli to see him” neytiri was seeing the benefits. She nods and set the plan in motion.
Mo’at quickly took notice of stxeli’s change of mood. The past few days she was sulking and looked down.
“Ma’ite, what has soured your face?” she asks. Holding her child on her lap, braiding her hair. Stxeli sighs.
“I haven't seen kame as often as I used too…he is now training with tsu’tey and doesnt have time to see me anymore”
Mo’at tilts her head.
“Was he training under your sempu?” she questions. Stxeli nods.
“Yes, but tsu’tey saw how good kame was doing and thought it would be better if kame trained under him. Its good but…I miss him…”
Stxeli stares at her flower bracelet with longing. Mo’at wanted to figure something out first.
“Why do you like kame? Is it because of the flowers he gives you?” mo’at wonders.
Stxeli sits up straight, facing her mother, “its more than that…a few weeks ago…”
A few weeks ago
“Dumb demon, dumb stupid hair, ugly sky demon!” stxeli grunts in anger as she kicks some rocks aside. Everyday her hate for jakesuli grows, because of him, neytiri is spending less time with stxeli. They usually take strolls in the forest, practice archery, or look for materials to paint. But now they hardly do that. All thanks to that ugly demon and his fat nose.
Grabbing a bigger rock, stxeli throws it far out aimlessly.
“OW!”
A voice in pain shouted.
Stxeli gasps, instantly regretting what she did. Hurriedly she ran to where she hard the voice. Moving plants and bushes out of her way, she found a young boy with a bleeding head.
“Oh eywa! I'm so sorry!! H-here let me help!!”
Quickly stxeli pulls out her aid bag and pulls out herbs and other healing materials.
“That was a good aim, haha-ow!” the boy groaned in pain. Holding the wound by adding pressure, a small streak of blood fell aside from his face.
“Don't talk, here let me see” stxeli gently moves the boy’s hand away to observe the wound. Luckily it wasn't that deep or serious, but it did require to be bandaged. So she grabs her small water container and a skin rag to damp it.
“This is going to sting…” stxeli warns.
Gently pressing onto the wound, she starts to clean it. The boy lightly hisses in pain. Grabbing the boys hand, “here, keep the rag like this, dont press it too hard” she instructs.
Stxeli quickly made a healing paste by crushing herbs and using a bit of water. Training under her mother made her an expert already. Grabbing some large leaves nearby, she begins to bandage the wound.
“The paste is a bit stinky but it will help with your wound” stxeli says.
The boy nods.
Stxeli puts her stuff away and sits in front of the boy.
“Again, Im so so so sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you, I was just too angry” she apologizes. The boy shakes his head slightly, a bright grin growing on his face.
“Thats ok, even if you didnt mean it, it was good. You got strong arms” he compliments. Stxeli giggles at that.
“I guess so”
“Im kame by the way” the boy introduces himself.
“Stxeli”
“He is really nice sa’nu….he is a good person and funny. Its like he can read my mind and make me laugh” stxeli tells. Mo’at smiles after hearing how her baby met kame.
“Well, when your sempu comes, I will talk to him. It seems training too much for the boy is not good for him” mo’at says.
And its true, while its good to raise future warriors, its also important to let him be a kid. While she already likes how kame is in stxeli’s eyes, its too soon to conclude anything. And that is a mistake her mate and child are doing.
She must correct it before it makes stxeli even sadder. However, mo’at has an idea that will work with not just eytukan, but with neytiri and tsu’tey as well.
“Hello ma’ite”
“.......”
“Stxeli…?”
“Stxeli, its rude to ignore sempu”
“............”
“Stxeli you are not an infant, dont be silent”
“..........................................................................................”
Eytukan, neytiri and tsu’tey were looking at stxeli in extreme confusion. There she was sitting down, doing her own think while ignoring the three. As if they are not even there. Mo’at chuckles as she walkes towards them.
“What is amusing mother? Stxeli is ignoring us?” neytiri says.
Mo’at pats her daughters shoulder, “stxeli has decide to give you all her silent treatment”
The three were even more confused.
“I am not dumb, I know what you three are doing. Having kame and stxeli spend less time with eachother. Will our little one won't have it. Until you allow them to meet again, stxeli will no speak or see either of you” mo’at announces.
This made the three adults drop their jaws.
Stxeli ignoring them? No more hellos? Hugs? Kisses?
“H-how long…?” eytukan asks.
“Until stxeli can spend time with kame again” mo’at answers easily.
“Never” neytiri growls a bit.
“Then suffer in her eternal silence”
The three adults didn't last 20 minutes before they gave up.
Aaaaaaaaaaand that concludes for this chapter! Whatchu guys think of kame? Who was right in this matter? should stxeli and kame be friends? or more in the future? Lemme know what you guys think! Until next time! see ya!

2022 in review, part 6: comics & manga first reads
1. orcs! by christine larsen (2021)
this is frighteningly perfect. orcs as protagonists, cute (but not too cute for orcs) art, and just supremely powerful good boy energy. (yeah a lot of the protagonists aren’t boys, but i feel like all orcs have good boy energy regardless of gender.) also it’s kinda gay!
this filled a hole i didn’t even know could be filled (which despite being ace is oftentimes what i’m looking for with orcs, hey-o), with the only problem being that whenever i go out looking for more orc fiction i’m looking for this specific vibe and nothing else has it. woof.
(in all seriousness i wouldn’t want every orc story to have this vibe because that would make it less special, but still i want more of this than this and its immediate sequel, y’know?)
2. the witch boy by molly ostertag (2017)
given the title & author i am less than 0% surprised how strongly i vibed with this. this gave me so many gender feels.
3. batman/teenage mutant ninja turtles (2015-16) writer: james tyrnion iv / artist: freddie williams ii
a love letter to fans of both franchises. this is one of the all-time great crossovers between two totally separate franchises. it might be the best ever.
4. the adventure zone, vol. 4: the crystal kingdom (2021) writers: clint mcelroy & griffin mcelroy & justin mcelroy & travis mcelroy artist: carey pietsch
it took me a minute to get into adventure zone because i was so thoroughly spoiled by the frankly superior dimension 20, but it really does grow on you. and i think the crystal kingdom story is the first one where the comic adaptation actually noticeably improved upon the podcast. the ending especially was just so arresting seeing it in comic form, and it really had an impact on me that i don’t remember it having when i was listening to the pod.
5. superman: birthright (2003-04) writer: mark waid / artists: leinil francis yu & gerry alanguilan
not only is this the best verison of superman’s origin story i’ve ever seen, it’s one of the best superman comics i’ve ever read.
6. batman, vol. 2: the city of owls (2012) writers: scott snyder & james tynion iv / artists: greg capulo & rafael albuquerque & more
what made this so special is not just that it was the epic confrontation between batman and the court (and possibly his long-lost brother). it also had two side stories, one that showed that the new 52 version of mr. freeze is kind of a unique twist on the character, but i'm actually way more interested in the last issue of the volume. this issue featured a pair of super gay siblings named harper and cullen row. harper will eventually become the hero bluebird, but for now we just see her civilian life and how she first comes into contact with batman. and honestly, just seeing these two low-income queer siblings existing and being extremely relatable was such a joy.
7. avatar: tsu’tey’s path (2019) writer: sherri l. smith / artists: dan parsons & jay durresma
basically a drastically better version of the first movie with less human stuff. it couldn’t totally remove the shitty white savior stuff from the narrative obviously since it is following the same events, but it did at least push them off to the side as much as it could.
8. batman: hush (2002) writer: jeph loeb / artist: jim lee
i’ve been a batman/catwoman shipper since before i knew that shipping was a thing, so obviously i loved this. ivy being blatantly femdommy, and bisexual at that, was also extremely, extremely, extremely my jam. yes please. more of that, please.
9. pleasure & corruption, vol. 1 by you someya (2019)
*pounding fist on table in rhythm to words* more. boy. subs. more. boy. subs. more. boy. subs.
i do wish so many authors didn’t seem so convinced that subby boys always have to “deserve it” by being pervs or whatever in stories like this, it makes them way harder to relate to. but yeah. seeing a boy get tied up and bullied a bunch is extremely wish fulfillment imo. also, loveloveloved the heavy emphasis on bondage, obviously.
10. 5 seconds before a witch falls in love by zeniko sumiya (2021)
a super cute enemies-to-lovers yuri about a witch & witch hunter. hell yeah.

Deleted footage: did Tsu’Tey’s Path change it for the better or not?
So here I am again, talking about a detail from Tsu‘Tey‘s Path comic book published by Dark Horse. I don‘t find it appropriate to spoil the entire comic, but, in my opinion, this particular moment intertwines with the scene from the original script and a bit with the episode from the extended cut. A very important moment which would add so much depth to the relations between the characters, I should admit. Yet we didn‘t get it in the final cut nor as one of the deleted scenes. And I don‘t get why, honestly.
First of all, the scene did remain the unedited one, no doubt in that, you guys can check it on Youtube. Still, if we followed the script, we‘d notice straight away that the moment when Grace meets Neytiri is skipped.
Here‘s an extract from the original script to Avatar. The meeting scene was completely left out: Grace‘s chat with kids is then cut to Jake and Neytiri being out in the forest.
Though the scene of Grace telling Jake about what actually happened in school did make it in the extended cut, the connection between Dr. Augustine and Neytiri didn‘t go beyond her image in the photographs Grace keeps on the fridge door.
Grace with Neytiri, Sylwanin (presumably), and other kids from the tribe.
The audience just weren‘t given any real life interaction between the two (except for when Grace faints in her avatar body and Neytiri rushes to her). The script literally tells us that it was supposed to be 'an awkward moment between them', and I can totally understand why. Along with her elder sister, Sylwanin, Neytiri was the best student Grace has ever had. She must have come to her school at a very young age, which I may prove by one of the pictures on the door, featuring Grace showing 'ears' gesture to her students.
The girl, copying the gesture, seems to wear a yellow flower-like headband, pretty similar to which Neytiri is used to wearing on special occasions. We could spot her wearing it during making out with Jake under the Tree of Voices and while being present at the ceremony of Jake’s consciousness transfer. I may suggest, it’s one of the early pictures of Neytiri taken in the process of learning. I haven‘t figured out yet who the boy on the table in the picture below is, however, it might be a younger version of Tsu‘Tey (I motivate my guess only by the alike hairstyle).
So how would it feel to meet the person you had spent years together, sharing knowledge, culture, and warm memories, who had suddenly disappeared from your life and had never come back until now? One would hardly find the right words to say, rather, it would be this uncomfortable moment of silence. I‘m not surprised that Neytiri and Grace just greet each other in formal way and that‘s it. Both would go through very powerful flashbacks. Neytiri may recall Sylwanin, falling dead in the doorway right before her eyes. Grace would feel guilty for letting all that happen, for not having checked on Sylwanin to reason her out of the idea of setting bulldozers on fire. Just a couple of seconds that would possibly make one of the most dramatic scenes of the entire movie.
Tsu‘Tey‘s Path is meant to tell the story from Tsu‘Tey‘s perspective. Not to spoil anything, the comic provides the opportunity to follow the character’s background and also gives a unique chance to observe some deleted footage. Let‘s see if it managed to make up for the lost.
So, what we can see in two pages down below (not gonna spoil which issue it is), is Grace meeting Tsu‘Tey instead of Neytiri. The reasonable question is if it’s good or bad for the narration. Well, hard to tell, since the comic story focuses on Tsu‘Tey‘s point of view, after all. Personally, I would answer in the following way: the short episode of Grace meeting Neytiri would be much more essential for the Neytiri’s character arc in the actual movie (and I‘m still unhappy about it having been cut out), while the comic does an incredible job in expanding the relations between Grace and the tribe of Omaticaya. Thanks to the comic, we know for sure that Tsu‘Tey matters to Dr. Augustine just as much as Neytiri and Sylwanin.
Grace is astonished at the fact that Tsu‘Tey still remembers everything she taught him in school, which suggests he may not have been the most hard-working student of all. Yet, since Tsu‘Tey calls Grace sa‘nok ('mother' in English), it‘s clear that he attended the same school as Neytiri and Sylwanin and so formed a strong spiritual bond with Grace. His command of English seems to be pretty good, as he‘s able to communicate with Jake throughout the movie and later translate Jake‘s speech at the Tree of Souls.
The only significant difference is in that Grace is wearing her casual outfit instead of the researcher’s one from the movie. She‘s also holding a baby na'vi, which doesn‘t appear in the extended scene, making us wonder if her encounter with Tsu‘Tey took place on another day.
The moment of holding Sylwanin‘s dead body recurrs in Tsu’Tey’s mind when Jake returns to Omaticaya as Toruk Makto. Tsu‘Tey seems to be a couple of years younger than his adult self in the movie, which again proves him witnessing the attack on kid rebels happen and being one of other students Grace managed to get out of school. Tsu‘Tey‘s latent fear of the Sky Person’s mightiness inside of Jake‘s avatar is way more comprehensible now, cause Jake, appearing on Toruk as a symbol of power, reminds him of how cruel and merciless humans can be. Hence he is sceptical about Grace coming back to the tribe, but his attitude changes as Grace calls his name.
To sum up, I believe, Tsu’Tey’s Path did succeed in reviving a rather important scene, which got unfairly edited out from the extended cut. It would certainly be ten times better if we were given the opportunity to watch Grace finally meet Neytiri after a while and their reaction to the encounter. Still, I also consider it a breakthrough that in just a couple of lines we were told the sad story of Tsu’Tey, having breathed so much life into his character.

SPEAK UNTO US YOUR BETTER AVATAR I LOVE THAT MOVIE SO MUCH IT'S SO BAD BUT SO COOL AND NEAT AND I'D LOVE TO HEAR YOU TALK ABOUT IT
Sorry for getting back to this anon late, but I’ve been catching up on some junk. TIME TO TALK ABOUT THIS MOVIE because I genuinely love it and wish it could’ve been more. I first thought about this years ago, and I still say it would’ve made for a much better movie. For me, anyway. The biggest change is making Jake into Jane Sully. As simple as this looks on the surface, it radically alters some key details for character interactions.
Just as before, Jane takes the place of her twin (now sister), who was murdered back on earth. Later, when her headbutting with Norm reveals that Sylwanin was killed by the RDA, she can instantly understand how Neytiri feels about all of this. (Before, Jake gets the general pain of losing a sibling, but never seems to consider this after the opening bit with Dr. Augustine.) They’ve both lost sisters to this bullshit, and even if it might be a sore subject to discuss in the beginning, it would provide an interesting talking point for them later. Their lives are already altered permanently by this whole mess. Jane also doesn’t get a stupid “exotic conquest” type love interest in Neytiri this time around. Granted, I personally would love a gay thing going on with them, but if I’m talking about a slightly more realistic approach to this in terms of broad Hollywood, then we can just stow that one away in a tupperware at the back of the fridge. Instead, they could develop a more sisterly-type bond.As such, chances are Jane also isn’t going to do the “oh no, masculinity threatened!” posturing that Jake does with Tsu’tey, meaning they’ll start things off on a… slightly better foot? I’d hope, anyway. Tsu’tey may or may not still see her as much of a threat; it’s hard to tell, since we don’t really see much regarding the way Na’vi treat the sexes. They seem to be pretty equal with their hunters being both male and female, but whatever. For the sake of it, let’s assume this new difference in sex causes a bit less of a clash. Her position on the Na’vi comes around more solidly from her developed relationships with the people, and not just because she fell in love with one of the locals. Instead, give that back to Grace! She was supposed to have a love interest from the tribe named N’deh, who was some kind of guide to the humans/avatars in the original draft. Have that be our romantic side-story, and have the sister relationship of Jane and Neytiri be the focus. Now, regarding her reporting back to Quaritch. She’s still a marine, and she still wants the same thing Jake wants in the beginning. But I feel that she’d also not be a complete fucking moron when it comes to warning the people of what’s coming. When Quaritch says “I’m gonna blow up Hometree,” and Jane gets the chance to warn them all, she shouldn’t choose THAT MOMENT EXACTLY to reveal that she’s been a mole this entire time. She should instead respond to Neytiri’s question of, “You knew this would happen?” with something that implies there’s something bigger to talk about later, but is not a dumb and forced miscommunication conflict. She’s used to thinking on her feet and improvising, so why can’t she come up with something that sounds reasonable, and doesn’t end up with her and Grace being left for dead? The RDA will still sever her avatar link, and the death of Neytiri’s father will also still drive a temporary wedge between them as the latter grieves. It would be easy for everyone else to still see her as a betrayer on the side of the Na’vi as well, since the RDA blew up Hometree. Jane remains alone and needs to find a way to get the people to trust her more wholly again. This part would stay mostly the same, with her taking the role of Toruk Makto in order to inspire the people and attempt to save Grace. Whether Grace survives in this version of things is kind of debatable on whether it’d be good? The original script says she does survive, but Jake wouldn’t have found out till later, so I would assume the same for Jane here. Her apparent death (maybe her avatar was in a coma, if she did survive the transfer) is still a strong motivator, since she was loved by the Omaticaya. While we’re at it, let’s not kill Trudy, because… come on, we’re tired of the “Vasquez always dies” type of trope in movies. Knock it off. Plus, I love her dumb painted helicopter, hahaha. Maybe she can just get a serious injury, or something. With the changes to her relationship with Neytiri, Tsu’tey doesn’t have to get offed in a really cheap and transparent means of shunting Jake to the forefront as clan leader. Tsu’tey can remain the clan leader because he actually knows how to lead them properly (I would assume, else he wouldn’t have been picked), and Jane can become one of his best warriors, fighting from her new place among the people. They form their own new relationship in the aftermath of the battle.Along with all of this, you get the additional potential of Jane being friends with at least three other important female characters aside from Neytiri in the film: Grace, Trudy, and Mo’at. These can be expanded upon, and we get a predominantly female main cast for a huge sci-fi movie! That’s some good stuff lying in wait.BUT NOOOOOO IT HAD TO BE ANOTHER BORING WHITE GUY AS THE LEAD. BOO-URNS.
#Anonymous#I have another less-explored idea about Grace being the main character of the film instead#it would've gone into the time where she was still teaching at the school#and before the RDA gunned down Sylwanin and the other hunters#Grace is a great character and she deserved more#di talks film#avatar 2009#james cameron avatar#avatar
