******** “I swear, I was clear from the beginning, Kurt.  I told him I wasn’t interested in him.  I told him it wasn’t a date that night.  I just agreed to go with him only because he said he’d donate a lot to the charity if I did.  I didn’t think anything of it.  I thought it was . .” “Nothing?” Blaine’s shoulders sagged.  “Yeah, “ he whispered.  “I thought it was.”  He scooted up the bed, so he could lean back against the headboard. “God, I’m so stupid . . “ he muttered as he closed his eyes. A weight settled in his lap, causing him to look up and see Kurt there, straddling him.  Blaine could see the concern in those blue eyes. “You’re not stupid.” “But . .” “Blaine, listen to me.  You’re not stupid.”  Kurt leaned forward to cup Blaine’s face in between his hands.  “Sebastian is a conniving, manipulative son-of-a-bitch and at this moment I’d like to heave his sorry ass and his smarmy meerkat face into the East River.” Kurt spat. A second ago you were cuddled on the couch, his hand playing with your hair and your head resting on his chest, but before you knew it the game had started and you were both sitting with your elbows on your knees, watching every single movement that occurred on the other side of the screen like your lives depended on it.

"Oh c'mon" Pedro groaned as your team scored another touchdown

"Yeah!" you basically jumped from the couch, grinning like an idiot "Look at that!" you pointed to the TV "That's how professionals play baby"

"Oh please" he rolled his eyes, "it's just luck"

"Luck?" you scoffed "You might wanna look at the score again, cause that doesn't look like luck to me"

"Yeah well maybe you need glasses"

You laughed sitting back down on the couch "It's your quarterback who needs glasses"

"Whatever" he shook his head, returning his clearly frustrated gaze to the game.

A few more minutes of tapping your leg anxiously against the floor ensured, before you were running your hand down the length of your face, trying to understand if you'd just seen that right, and Pedro wasn't even trying to conceal his enthusiasm.

"Professionals huh?" he mocked "You just committed a foul in your own end zone"

"Oh shut up" you groaned, sinking back into the couch "You can party all you want, we're still winning"

"Not for long" he smirked, sitting back down 

"You keep dreaming buddy"

And that's how the next one and a half hours continued, until-

And they have done it! 31 to 20! the fans are going crazy!

Only once you were finished with your little dance party around the couch did you go back to your boyfriend.

He threw his head back onto the headrest, looking almost comically desperate.

You smiled as you climbed onto his lap, trying to lighten his mood a little bit.

His hands went to the back of your legs as his eyes found yours again.

"I really thought we were gonna win" he explained, 

"I'm sorry baby" you pouted, giving him a quick kiss

"no you're not" he saw right through you

4. Is there an NPC your commander doesn't care for at all?

Smodur.

IBS just became that much more interesting to me ever since myself and @commanderteag started working on joint lore, which led me to develop the Drizzlewood campaign era of Mael's story a bit more closely.

Following Mael's revelations courtesy of Raven - that no choice is ever truly the "correct" one, that even the best intentions can lead to catastrophe, and sometimes a lesser evil can help avoid a greater evil in the future, his transformation into a ruthless leader is complete. He can no longer afford to doubt himself, resolving to kill Ryland even if his friendship with Rytlock is forever soured. Following the death of Drakkar and an unexpected near-death experience courtesy of a friend's dragonslayer bow in very much the wrong hands, he receives a summons from the United Legions to assist in the war effort against Bangar's Dominion.

One Imperator stands out from among the rest: Smodur the Unflinching. While charr have always been a race of warmongers, with a specific relationship with honor and self-worth in the context of the Legions - Mael does not care much for either Smodur as a person, or his methods.

Smodur believed in might over everything - victory at all costs. But while the Commander was no stranger to sacrifice and the reality of war, he quickly came to recognize Smodur held no respect for his people as people, but rather as disposable tools, nothing more than cannon fodder. In his ambition to become the next Khan-Ur, he thought himself so far above and detached from the "lessers" whom he commanded that often he would not even make an effort to take a path that would save more lives. To him, charr soldiers and civilians alike were as disposable as spent shells: a sentiment further made true by Smodur's willingness to trick Mael and Rytlock into committing a horrific war crime with the use of a Searing crystal.

The height of the Commander and Smodur's animosity came with Cinder's needless murder, an act not only cruel but strategically unsound to say the least. It was clear the Iron Imperator had gone insane out of hubris, believing himself so powerful that Steelshot's slaughter at his hands would terrorize Ryland instead of stoking a new flame of hatred and conviction in his heart.

It's after the Frost Legion's debut that Smodur and Mael were forced to work closely together, much to the latter's disgust. But a master tactician knows to keep his cards close and his true emotions secure - where Smodur was very open about his disdain for the Pact field leader and constantly asserting dominance, Mael played wholly into his diplomatic persona for the good of the campaign.

Still, he had seen enough of the Imperator sending his troops on suicide missions against the overbearing Frost - and then, should any dare to refuse or desert, executing them for treason. Such a strategy served only to terrorize his own soldiers and the United Legions slowly but surely began to lose the front against the seemingly neverending tide of Dominion, Icebrood and Svanir.

There was only one thing a necromancer - and a powerful one, at that - could do to bolster the ranks: round up the fallen, Dominion and Legions alike, and raise them as his personal army. Naturally, this did not initially sit well with Smodur, despite gaining the approval of Malice and Efram. In spite of the sheer utilitarian value of Maelmordha's plan, the paranoid Smodur already saw the Commander - and Aurene - as a threat to his power and wanted the sylvari necromancer kept firmly in line. Most charr still didn't trust magic, and morale would falter once soldiers were forced to see their former bandmates risen as mindless corpses, which led to Mael preemptively employing the aid of Kasmeer, Maolmuire, and the Seraph mesmers to scramble facial features. In this way, at least the already shaken troops did not have to come face to face with what was once their loved ones shackled to dark magics.

The Dominion would come to call this army "The Shadow Legion", dubbing the Commander himself "The Shadow Imperator" to further drive the propaganda of the United Legions' weakness - to allow a non-charr to play such a vital role in their campaign whereas the Dominion stood strong as only charr, the true image of what their species should be: the sole rulers of Tyria under Bangar's bloodied banner.

Though Maelmordha successfully convinced Smodur to allow his undead to take on the more perilous missions, the Imperator' paranoia continued to eat him alive. Afraid to be seen as weak due to relying on the Commander's magic, he pushed more and more risky strategies, threatening the United Legions' cause. While he had once been a true visionary and formidable leader, the final stretch of the campaign leading up to his eventual death was the sloppiest leadership of his life.

Though he knows better than to publicly admit such thoughts, as well as is well aware of the charr leader's accomplishments, Commander Maelmordha feels Smodur's death was self-wrought and ultimately beneficial to the Legions.

I've tweaked Mael's canon for him to sprout in 1320 AE instead, spending five years realizing his Wyld Hunt of uncovering the truth of Riannoc's fate and finding Caladbolg, only to then return it so that the Mother may elect a new wielder. Awakened as a necromancer to aid him in his Hunt the same way Trahearne himself was, the two were very similar yet also opposites in many aspects.

Where Trahearne was shy and indecisive, burdened with the weight of his seemingly impossible Hunt, Maelmordha was a Dawnborn bursting with charisma, a natural in leadership scenarios yet lacking the expertise in Orrian matters necessary to lead the Pact. As such, the best arrangement was for Trahearne to step up as the Marshal with Mael as his second and the field leader, handing a large portion of troop management while simultaneously coaching the Marshal to improve his confidence and leadership skills. Together, they complimented one another very well, coupled with the fact Maelmordha felt it was his destiny to assist the Knight of Thorn wherever he went, his Hunt now focusing on allowing Caladbolg to enact its whole purpose.

Suddenly, Trahearne wasn't alone with a calling that threatened to devour him whole. Suddenly, he had another, with their Hunts so closely intertwined - a friend lifting him up towards the light he once thought he would never see. Armed with the sword from the Pale Mother herself and side by side with a man who had spent his every waking moment working to find it - just for the purpose of finally realizing Trahearne's destiny - he was ready, and for the first time he felt the future was truly bright.

It was towards the end of the Zhaitan campaign - after the cleansing of Orr - that the two realized what they had might be love, after all. Because how could it not be? They were soul-bound, linked in Wyld Hunt and one another's perfect companions, standing at the end of the world and facing it with a resounding "No."

They would not fall to Zhaitan. They would not let its foul magic claim the heart of Tyria as it had once claimed Orr. Together, but only together, they had enough strength to defy a force of nature given flesh and inspire the world to take up arms against the remaining Elder Dragons, a tidal wave of change that would one day usher a new dawn on the world they had come to love and fiercely wish to protect.

...That dawn did come, but only one of them lived to see it - if we go by a looser definition of "lived", anyway.

Even after all these years, Mael still misses Trahearne. Though his grief and codependency issues improved upon eventually passing Caladbolg on to a new wielder, reflecting his thematic fate as the "Keeper of the Thorn" before he was ever the Knight. Though the roles are inverted now, with Mael as the older, experienced party mentoring a young Knight, he feels it's the right thing to do. That in this way, another bright destiny may be realized, and he will be there to watch over it and see it through.

He will be there to take Maolmuire under his wing, into the most comforting shadow where one's destiny is so often a scorching light: to make sure the curse of Caladbolg does not repeat and the fourth wielder does not die alone like each of the Three Knights once did. Henceforth, the immortal Commander will vow to be there to watch over the future generations of the Pale Mother's heroes, being ever the one to bestow the sword with Her blessing.

He hopes that in this way, he can both atone for his failure to save Trahearne, and finally grieve properly by reliving the joy of companionship that made their time together worthwhile in the first place.

"Deartheart, this I promise: from this day on I will remember you with a smile."

Aurene is his daughter, even if his race does not know the term in the same ways others do.

8. Is your commander's relationship to Aurene parental, sibling, or something else?

She was the light that kept him afloat in his despair following Trahearne's death, and the force that pulled him from his all-consuming hatred of dragons. Indeed, though the Elder Dragons were the enemy of Tyria's races, there was more to these mighty creatures that met the eye: the Scions - Glint the Prophet and her offspring, who had found a kinship with the mortal races and sought to protect the world much like the Commander and the Pact themselves. Aurene was a beautiful creature, the most pure soul he had ever known, and becoming her Champion was a spiritual experience that most likely saved Maelmordha from drowning in his darkest emotions.

He would do anything for her, and she for him. Even when he begged her not to come to his aid, held at the brink of death under the blade of Balthazar - and subsequently, once he returned as something he felt was far worse than who he used to be. She gave purpose and direction to his newfound magic so that it would not consume him whole like his despair nearly did all the way back in Maguuma. Shaped the Soul Eater's horrific mark into something that could be used productively, and the Champion became also the Mouth of Aurene.

Together, they represent the beginning and the end of a star: She is the newborn sun and he is the singularity, the devourer, the end-wolf Fenrir wreathed in chain. Though she sees timelines where reality breaks and their delicate balance can no longer hold, it is purely because they are perfect opposites that the Eternal Alchemy can keep turning as it is in the absence of the other Elder Dragons. Though he is no Dragon himself, he is forced into the role of a balancing force, the immortal lich, bearer of the aspects of death and shadow to her aspects of life and light. Though he knows better than to assume he'll live forever, having an extended lifespan may at least help the Alchemy settle into the new rhythm - to truly and wholly welcome the Age of Aurene.

But at the core of all things, she's still simply his daughter, and the reason he is still alive and sane.

I believe you may or may not have awnsered a similar ask, but as i read chaos theory i'm sitting here like "oh damn, y/n is really blowing this poor man's mind, heart and soul to oblivion with the knowledge that she genuinely loves him and his affections aren't unrequited or driven by guilt" like damn Rev, you and y/n are going all out on poor vincent there. I honestly can't blame you. Even though it overwhelms the sweet man, he really needs genuine love from someone who's dead set on loving him and him alone.

Anywho, question if we get more content from Square Enix (i pray we do, i really do i feel starved for vincent now) that primarily involves vincent more, are we gonna get to see our man grapple with this knowledge and come to the understanding that the love he's developed with y/n definitely isn't one-sided once you're able sink claws into the new content and flesh out your story? Are we also gonna see his demons come out and play a bit more as well when that happens? I love myself some chaos "scares" and well, i'm kinda itching to see if we get some other demon "scares" sprinkled in èwé

Good questions Anon, this is a huge one so I’ll answer it bit by bit lol.

To start with, I have absolutely left some breadcrumbs in Chaos Theory that hint at some of the other plot things that are going on. These hints are incredibly subtle, maybe too subtle honestly lmao, but I have seen them mentioned in comments so 😅. I do intend to reveal some important plot stuff in the sequel covering the Temple of the Ancients. I’m talking shocking stuff lmao, so that’s definitely coming even if SE doesn’t give us any more Vincent content until part 3.

Without knowing where SE are going to go with part 3, I have a bunch of plot ideas that are somewhat vague, so that I can fill them in with specifics eventually. Unfortunately this means that even when I reveal stuff, it’s still gonna be kind of vague 😭😭. So apologies for that.

I also want to add that while I obviously want to finish this story, I can’t exactly commit to writing another fic once part 3 comes out in 3 years time. So, I am apologising in advance that this story might never end up finished.

Specifically with regards to your question, yes Vincent would have to come to terms with allllll of that lol. I mentioned in a previous ask that as long as the timeline works out, their initial “I love you’s” would be just after visiting Lucrecia in her cave. Emotions at that point would be exceptionally high, and Vincent is forced to make a choice and confront his own feelings.

Like, just consider that conversation for a sec. Because Reader knows a lot of Vincent’s backstory by that stage, it’s not just about him having to make a choice about clinging to the past or moving forward. It’s also coming to terms about what Lu(sexually and experimentally) and Hojo(experimentally) did to him, which he only really does in Dirge in canon. Reader is also smart enough to connect the dots on her own that he might be Seph’s father too. There’s just a whole host of things there and there’s no way I’d ever let Vincent get away with not coming to terms with all of it 😂.

With regards to his monsters, of course they would be making more appearances. I love them and I’m way too much of a monster fucker to ignore them. Each of them would get their own time in the spotlight hehehe.

Honestly they’re one of the main reasons I’m reluctant to commit to a part 3 fic. As a quick example, Chaos Theory has 7 smut scenes. Any sequel would need each monster, the love confession and then an “Under the Highwind” end of the world scene. Thats 6 before we even start on them just having fun and exploring each other, and you know, the actual plot lmao.

Okay okay, in my opinion and this might be controversial, Carlos should get a contract extension if Charles gets one.

For some reason people seem to tjink last season Charles was way better than Carlos, which is just massively biased by Charles last few races being better. Abu Dhabi and Vegas saved his championship standings, as otherwise he would have finished below Carlos.

Why bring it up? Because somehow people think Carlos is lesser than Charles, when realistically if ferrari let them fight, they beat each other. Leclerc is ferraris golden boy, hence the contract, but if ferrari is smart they keep sainz because he can beat charles at times which is great to have in a team

The rumor about carlos having to win 5 races better be bullshit, because if carlos needs to win 5 races (total of races charles won in recent years for them) then Charles, becaus ehe has a contract, should at least win double that? Meaning that car is essentially needing to win more than half the races, meaning red bull needs to have a huge drop in performance and max needs to be beat. Which is ironic, because the only time that happend in 2023 Carlos won and not Charles

I just can’t understand why ferrari would let carlos go. he’s a brilliant driver, got them their only win of last season using his own intelligence and tactics, has proven himself time and time again. sure, this season he wasn’t the most consistent, but I do think a part of that was technical issues with the car and tactics/strategy. and they work well as teammates!! they clearly like each other (sure maybe they’re not in love or anything but there’s definitely a camaraderie there)

I see Miss Raven being sent off to the Briar Valley to be a scribe, historian, or archivist. Something along those lines! The documentation of daily activities, meetings, and history itself would be important, seeing as a lot of Briar Valley’s past has been lost to time or isn’t recorded in history books at all. Just telling the stories via word of mouth may not be entirely reliable.

She of course writes as a hobby, but is also very organized and serves as a helper/secretary of sorts to Crowley at present so she already has the skillset required for the job. It may also help that Miss Raven is already acquainted with Briar Valley residents; this actually works aesthetically as well, as while Raven is twisted from the raven from an Alice in Wonderland riddle, she could also be the Diablo to Malleus’s Maleficent as an advisor of sorts to Briar Valley nobility. They already have an odd (platonic) mentor-mentee… final-boss-and-pathetic-minion dynamic going on, so might as well fully commit to the bit 😂

As for andreil becoming official - I think yes. When I do royal aus I wouldn’t necessarily call the universe/world “queer normative” because the higher in station you go, the more true “straight until proven otherwise” holds - no one frowns on gay relationships and the setting is perfectly accepting, they just kind of… expect their rulers to be straight for bloodline convenience and all that 🤷 and it’s not like Andrew is trying to be subtle either, he keeps his relationships and ‘affairs’ to himself well but once he actually takes a liking to Abram he’s not really trying to hide it (case in point: here). He just lets the rumors about his sexuality spread and hopes he won’t have to make a big deal about coming out.

The really really fun part about universes like this is that we can kind of make up the traditions to be whatever we want! I love love love the idea of courting, I think it’s got great possibilities (and I’m so certain Aaron courting Katelyn was like the floweriest, cutest thing ever omg) so I’d love to make Andrew actually commit to courting Abram 😂 But like in canon where Andrew and Neil (and this is only a widely accepted head canon) don’t make a big deal about a proposal and wedding, probably having a tiny wedding or just going to the courthouse - Prince Andrew doesn’t make it a grand, super special thing like King Aaron and Katelyn wanted to. He picks the parts he likes and makes sure he meets all the basic expected requirements (because I want SO BADLY for Andrew to secretly be a sap, he likes the romantic stuff he just doesn’t like making it public) and then when Abram wants to, they get married and Abram becomes whatever title is next in line after prince. Duke? I don’t remember right now but yeah to avoid confusion/political issues he is not technically also considered a prince.

The people as a general rule love this, people like parties and they like celebration and a wedding is both of those and the prince seems happy so that’s as good as it’s gonna get. No one’s going to be able to say Abram doesn’t make them a tiny bit wary because let’s be real. Abram’s nature before you get to know him can be off putting. But that’s the only real thing anyone would have against their marriage.

No idea. That’s the honest answer which is obviously no good to anyone but let’s have a think about it together and see what we come up with…

I guess one thing will have to be I’m old 😂 well let’s say older 😉 and that means practice even if I’ve only been writing for three years. I”m going to sound big headed here but I think I’m pretty good with words in a lot of different contexts, I get compliments at work for reports and emails, especially how I explain things (written and verbal) to the people and children I work with. I’ve been doing that for 27 years and that’s got to help right?

I just wrote a line in author buck fic “make words dance across the page for a living”

When I’m writing it does feel like that… again with the fear of sounding cocky I’ve always been quick when writing anything, I don’t think first then write it, the words just come out, for example I have no idea where this sentence will go or finish. There is very little planning in my head about anything. I was that annoying person who finished exams early because I just threw up ideas on the page and they managed to fall out coherently.

So the writing bit just kinda happens whenever I get to sit down and write.

The longer fics the lost and found, the pern ones and Good knight are usually ten ish chapters deep and those chapters ready to share (mostly) before I start posting anything. This means I’m ahead of myself and can share and keep writing the newer chapters.

I usually… usually have the shape of the ending in my head when I start writing. Sometimes it’s the first thing I have , I knew how good knight would end months and months before I started those chapters and got almost 100k into the story before I got to include the first of the concepts that started the whole damn thing 😂

in other situations the whole thing moves with me the Ravi of it all in shifter fic didn’t happen till at least halfway through and I’ll be honest I got lucky with some things I had already written fitting what I wanted to do.

About getting time to write, I multitask, write while tv is on, in bed, at work (sometimes far too much… shame on me I know but I’m on top of my work and fulfil my commitments and they don’t pay me enough to go above and beyond, I’m also mostly in charge at work so no one is gonna tell me off either 😏 )

I write when I should be doing other things, read so much less than I used to and ignore 80% of dull household activities to prioritise the words. I write on my phone and iPad so it can come with me wherever I go and spare moments are dedicated to some editing or writing.

Ideas hit me while I’m driving and I’ll get key moments or fix a plot issue while I’m driving to work then have to hold onto it until I can find a pen! Not always easy! Sometimes I scribbles down ideas that hit me non sequentially so I can add them later - this leads to the odd incoherent email to myself if the idea hits in the middle of the night. 😳

I do tend to write in order ,usually heading towards that ending I’m already vaguely seeing. I write with chapters in mind and the length I want for them. GKSP and TLATF I was aiming for 10k. Author Buck I’m aiming for around 5 ish. The Pern ones esp the first one is much more erratic because I really didn’t have a plan there!

I write for a while then I’ll come back and read what I’ve written for that chapter from the start tweaking it and then carrying on further.

I read and read each chapt a lot!! A lot! And tweaks happen right to the last minute.

I work well under pressure, better maybe! I was writing 10k of chapter a week for shifter fic for the last 4weeks cos I’d caught up with myself! Was a bit stressful I’ll admit that but good too.

I started publishing author!buck for that reason, it had been sitting around for a year with maybe 20k/30k written and I thought the only way to drive it and me on was to start sharing. I will not let you all down once I start sharing,

Got really weird towards end of GKSP actually because I was worried I’d mysteriously die before I shared it all! Had several contingency plans in place to make sure the basic plot got shared! Strange little spot that I am!

Depression/burn out helped me too during the second year of writing. Writing was literally all I wanted to do so i dedicated all my spare time to it. When I went on meds some of the ideas slowed down which i didn’t like much at all! I was worried for a while but things settled down again, I don’t have as many wips anymore which might have something to do with that. Tend to write one fic at a time now. Kinda … unless inspiration hits!

Anyway that’s my story, not sure it helps in anyway and it got long so if you’re still reading this, well done and thanks.

1. What ship were you completely obsessed with when you were a teenager, but now you don't care about anymore?

Hmmm, a hard question right off the bat, because even if I am no longer actively seeking the ship content out anymore, usually I retain a lot of fondness for it, so there are precious few ships I used to be into and that I am simply meh about now, but I think it would be ShikaIno, from Naruto. Canon came at me hard, so while I have some fondness for it, it is what it is, and I am not that much into Naruto anymore either way, so it doesn't hurt much.

2. Which ship would you consider your first one?

Simba/Nala? Lol 😂 but in all seriousness, I think it would be BatCat. Or Aragon/Arwen, I am very hazy on the details when exactly I imprinted on those, the timeline is not clear

3. Your first fanfic was about which couple?

Read or written? Read: no idea, I think it might have been some self-insert into Inuyasha universe? Written: Sirius/Remus

4. Do you remember the first couple you saw fanart of?

Nope. When I discovered the internet I discovered all of it at an alarming pace, but my bet would be on either Sirius/Remus or some couple from W.I.T.C.H

5. Have you ever gotten into ship discourse?

I try not to. I have opinions, yes, and I like discussing them with friends, but I try not to make it anyone's problem - everyone will ship what they want to ship and find different dynamics compelling, so I don't think it necessary to crusade one way or another because one ship is superior to another. It's all very subjective.

6. Did you use to have any NOTP or have one currently?

I have quite a bit! Funnily enough I have some canon ships I absolutely dislike and can go off about whenever I catch a poor, innocent victim to listen to my rant.

But my general rule is that I don't like OT3s. In any fandom, in any form, it's just not for me at all. To make matters worse, I am a monoshipper at heart, which usually means that I have a dynamic/ship that I like with characters A and B, and it makes me lose interest in all the other configurations with them. So maybe not an active NoTP but very unlikely for me to read A/C if I committed myself to A/B.

Special shout out to Weilanzun, because this is my most recently acquired NOTP.

And to Batman/Talia Al Ghul which is my longest reigning one.

7. Who were the couple in the last fanfic you read?

Zhou Ying/Bai Ling from Tai Sui 🥺 my poor white half-demon, hopelessly devoted to his prince... And so few fics with them ;_;

8. Currently, do you have any OTPs?

Plenty. I don't abandon old ones, I just collect them together in my jar of ships and rattle it from time to time, to see how they sparkle together.

But from my most recent and long-term commitments: Weilan, Luolin, Heixie, Luo Qingeng/Jiang Yang (do they have a name???) and BatCat, forever and ever

9. Is there any couple that, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting together?

Well, the story is a story, so as long as it makes sense that these characters do not end up together, then I am okay with it, that's what we have fanfiction for, right?

BUT

I am still not over that wedding stunt DC Comics pulled with BatCat. Months of teasing, of promising the wedding, the freaking wedding albums being released and then the WEDDING DIDN'T HAPPEN. They broke up instead because Batman has to be the dark, sad, lonely something something and you can't be a hero if you have a wife. 50 years and DC Comics is going backwards in this regard :/

10. Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they are kind of interesting?

Not sure? Nothing comes to mind. But I am very open to being pulled into/converted into ships as long as they are not on my black list, and even then I try to keep an open mind, in case something clicks.

11. Do you have any ship that, in the past, would've been considered normal but now you would be cancelled over?

Hah, a lot, because I got into shipping as a teenager. So reading romances about other teenagers felt normal and all but now I don't feel the need to revisit them.

12. What is your favorite crack ship?

Ha. Not today, Satan. One moment I am joking about a crack ship and the next I have 10k words written about it and like 3 sad headcanons and a shipping chart ready.

13. What is the couple you read the most fanfics about?

Oh wow, good question. If I like a ship, then I tend to read through the entire Ao3 tag of theirs, sometimes more than once because what if I missed some gem in the first go? So it would come down to the sheer numbers of fics, I think. So that would be either Sterek, Stucky or Eames/Arthur (fun fact: this is also the first fandom that introduced to me the concept of derivs)

14. What do most of your ships usually have in common?

Devotion. Very often the conflict between their feelings and their duties/ loyalty towards something they cared about before they met the other.

I like both sides of the ship to be competent at their respective fields and torn apart by their own choices and priorities. The 'I love you but do I love you enough to abandon everything I am'?. I like both answers more or less equally: both the 'yes, it's us against the world now' and 'I hope we won't meet on the battlefield' are set ups I enjoy immensely. But I also like smart-asses annoying each other into marriage one witty comeback at a time.

15. What you absolutely hate in a ship?

Imbalance of attachment. If the ship seems terribly one-sided, like one character is putting in all of the work and tries and tries, and tries while the other mercifully sometimes acknowledges them, then it's a no for me.

Same with the 'if you patiently wait for this person to like you, even though they told you 10 times they won't, then they eventually will' trope, like someone's love is what you earn through steadiness and hard-work.

I like both parts to be equally unwell about their partner, one way or another. They can be sickeningly domestic and gushing, or they can be crazy in that 'no one defeats him, but me!' kind of way, but they have to be in balance on the insanity scale. I like when characters grow into their relationship and both affect one another, falling more and more in love with each other as they go, but not when one person is a prize the other has to win/outwait/earn.

At the sound of Ladybug crashing into something—the foosball table, as it turned out—Adrien set down his pen and swivelled around in his desk chair, watching as she rubbed her hip and returned to pacing around his room. She'd shown up twenty minutes ago, insisting she didn't want to distract him from finishing his homework once she'd realized he was working on it, and had then started wandering around like she might implode if she stopped.

He'd let her be for a while—experience told him that sometimes she just needed to get something out of her system. But at this point, he doubted whatever was bothering her was something she'd manage to walk off.

“Do you want to talk about it?” he asked.

She jumped at the sound of his voice, almost crashing into the sofa as well. And under other circumstances, Adrien might have smiled. He loved every side of this girl who’d long ago stolen his heart. Her inability to walk straight was no exception.

(“Besides,” she would say if he teased her about it, “what kind of bisexual would I be if I walked straight?”

And Adrien would follow up with some joke about how he should stop walking in runway shows if that was a qualification for being bi.)

But today didn't feel like the time for jokes.

“W-what?” she said.

He shrugged, following her lead when she glanced away—he didn’t want her to feel overwhelmed. But he missed having her in his line of sight—even when he’d been finishing up his math problems he’d been able to see her reflection on his darkened computer screen. So he quickly shifted his eyes back to her, smiling when he noticed she was watching too.

“Whatever’s on your mind.”

Her eyes widened. “I didn’t say…”

“I know. I could just…tell.”

“Ugh.” She made a face as she slumped down on the couch’s armrest, falling back against the cushions a second later. “I’m the worst company today, aren’t I? Sorry. I can go if I’m too much of a distraction.”

“No!” Adrien shouted, loud enough that Ladybug sprung back to a sitting position, bracing herself on the back of the couch. He smiled sheepishly. “Sorry. Didn’t mean to shout, I just...well, I don't want you to go. I love it when you visit, and I’m almost done with my homework anyways. It just seems like…maybe you’re upset about something?”

Ladybug stood, fiddling with her hands as she slowly made her way towards him. She stopped beside him, and for a second he—foolishly—hoped she might sit in his lap. Instead she leaned against the edge of his desk, tracing a finger over the numbers and variables he'd inked into the page.

"I'm not...upset, exactly," she said. "More like...stressed. But it's no big deal." She shrugged. "Just life stuff."

She sent him a somber smile—the kind that had I'm trying to tell you I'm fine—totally FINE! But actually I'm coming apart at the seams HAHAHA written all over it. Adrien knew it well. But he hated seeing it on someone he loved.

"Is there any way I could help?" he asked.

"I mean, if you could take down Shadow Moth, that would be great."

"No problem!" He smiled. "Be right back."

Committed to the bit, Adrien was steps away from his bathroom when a giggle cut him off. "Are you hiding him in the shower or something?"

"Psssh. No! I was trying to fake a dramatic exit."

"Through the bathroom? Were you going to jump out the window? Slide down the drain?"

"Actually, there's a secret passageway behind the mirror."

"Wait. Really?"

He laughed. "No. But good to know you believe me so easily."

"Pfft. That was the last time, Agreste."

"Uh-huh..."

Still grinning, Adrien made his way back to the desk. When he got there, he rolled the chair away in favour of leaning against the desk beside her. He wasn't bold enough to sit so close that their hands would brush, but he was rewarded anyways when Ladybug leaned her head against his shoulder. Adrien’s heart skipped a beat. Or ten.

He wanted to say something else, but he didn't dare disturb the moment.

"I just have so much to do," she said. "But it's all stuff I have to wait for. Like, I'm organizing an event for my class at school, but nobody's getting back to me about what they can bring. And I promised my parents I'd help them install some new shelves, but the order keeps getting delayed. And then there's Hawk Moth, who could strike at any time. And like...the only things I could probably get started on are a few projects for school. Except those aren't due for at least a few more days, so I can't seem to make myself actually start them, and so I keep just playing things over and over in my head, trying to figure out what activity I'm going to slot in when, but there's no good answer, and ugh. I have fifteen kwamis in my room, including one I could use to see the future, but then, like, that might" —her next words were encased in bunny ears— "mess up the timeline."

She sighed, hands slumping back to her sides. "Which really means that none of the superpowers at my disposal are actually helpful, and it's just...I feel like I'm never going to get anything done, which is stupid, I know, but..."

She finished by standing up—Adrien immediately missed her warmth at his side—and throwing her hands up in frustration while she made some indecipherable noise. Then her eyes locked on his and widened, like she'd only just remembered he was there.

"I don't think it's stupid," he said gently. "I think...it's amazing you do all that and still manage to be as wonderful as you are."

His words seemed to have the opposite effect as intended, making her shoulders slump. "But I'm not wonderful. I snapped at my best friend today, and at my cru—uuuh...at my other friend." She started pacing again. "And now I'm dumping all my problems on you, and you probably think I'm crazy, and you'll never invite me back here, and..."

She listed a few more things Adrien couldn't quite make sense of—something about kids and hamsters?—but he didn't think the words were really for him anymore. Unable to watch her keep spiraling, he stood and walked over, stopping her mid-sentence by setting his hands on her shoulders.

"Hey," he said. "I'm sure everything will turn out okay."

Her gaze dropped to her feet. "Maybe..."

"Definitely."

She only sighed in response.

Adrien debated his next words carefully. Part of him wondered if he was secretly being selfish considering his next question—the idea was definitely thrilling to him. But if he were in her position, he was pretty sure it was what he would want someone to ask, even if he weren't in love with that someone. And he probably didn't have much to lose.

"Would you like a hug?"

Her eyes shot back up to his, gleaming with some emotion that sent a thrill through him. Then she nodded, and Adrien wasted no time in wrapping his arms around her.

Of course she fit well there—he'd hugged her enough as Chat Noir to know that. But he wasn't expecting the way she practically melted into his embrace, or the way his heart rate skyrocketed when her breath ruffled his T-shirt. She smelled of something sweet and floral—he'd ask her what shampoo she used if that weren't so creepy. And even the way the ends of her pigtail brushed against his arm when she turned her head was a tiny bit of ecstasy he was certain he'd remember for the rest of his life.

But the hug wasn't about him

"Do you feel better?" he asked maybe a minute later, rubbing a hand down her back. She didn't answer, so he pulled back and searched her expression. "Ladybug?"

Her face crumpled. "No. I still can't stop thinking about everything. And you're being so nice, which must make me awful, and—"

"It doesn't," he assured her. "You're still incredible."

That time, his compliment earned him a tiny smile.

"Maybe you just need a better distraction," he said, before he had to watch that smile fade. "We could...play some mecha strike?"

She shrugged, shaking her hands at her sides. "I feel too...jittery to sit down."

"Ah. Okay. I guess that means a movie's out of the question."

"Sorry."

"It's okay, I promise. We'll figure something out." Adrien bit his lip, looking around the room. So much stuff, but none of it was useful. Then an idea popped into his head that tugged a smile onto his face. "We could...dance?"

Ladybug laughed. "I can't even walk without running into something, and you want me to move other parts of my body at the same time?"

"So, we'll slow dance then. No way you mess that up."

She snorted. "No, but I can totally hurt you when I step on your feet twelve thousand times."

"Twelve thousand? That would actually be impressive."

She laughed again, then sobered. "But do you really...do you want to dance with me?"

Suddenly nervous, Adrien resisted the urge to scratch the back of his neck. Instead he reached out his left hand, trying to project confidence despite the flutters that rippled through him when he noticed her cheeks redden. "It would be my honour."

Taking a deep breath, Ladybug reached for his hand. Adrien followed up by taking a half-step closer and hesitantly settling his free hand on her waist. After that, she seemed at a loss with what to do with her other arm, but she slowly bent her elbow and placed a hand on his chest. Instinct—from lessons he'd taken years ago—told him she should technically put her hand a little higher, but he pushed those feelings aside, trying his best to focus on nothing but her.

That wasn't exactly hard when her eyes found his.

"S-see?" he said, a little breathless. "You're already a pro."

She bit her lip, unable to conceal her smile. "We're not even moving yet."

"Well, that's not so hard either." He took a small step back. "Just one step after the other."

"One after the other," she repeated in a whisper, lowering her gaze as she followed his first step.

They went on like that for a while, in small slow steps, eventually building up some semblance of rhythm. Ladybug started humming some song at some point—one with 4/4 timing that didn't at all work for the waltz he'd been counting in his head. But somehow that made the moment even more perfect, like how when she finally stopped paying so much attention to each step, she giggled every time she stumbled into him.

She was finally smiling, and nothing else mattered

"Thank you," she whispered against his chest when they got tired of actual dancing and ended up swaying slowly behind by the window. "I feel better now."

Lost in the moment, Adrien didn't even think before bending down to kiss her head. "Me too, my lady."
