I just found your blog today can you please explain or point out a post that explains the MASH timeloop thing? I love the show but I've never heard anyone talk abt it that way before
oh yay hurray ive been waiting for an excuse to talk about this lmao sorry this is long
ok so basically maeve (my gf) and i started watching mash for the first time about a month ago and we started joking about it being like the characters were stuck in a time loop mostly because the same basic episode format is repeated over and over, because it's a sitcom from the 70s and the episodes arent meant to be watched en masse where you can start noticing all the little repetitions and plot holes and inconsistencies that naturally occur in longform tv
but then i started to pay attention to the dates being mentioned in the show - famously the korean war never technically ended, but american troops were involved in active on the ground fighting between 1950 and 1953, so the entire 11 seasons of mash have to be squeezed into that three year period. with 251 episodes occurring within 1,129 days, that gives every episode about 4.5 days of real time. so it works right? no time loop right? well wait a sec
for the first 5 seasons or so of mash they give very consistent dates about when things are happening. for example, bj arrives in korea in september of 1952, at the start of season 4. colonel potter arrives about a week after him, and talks about how he has 18 months left before his retirement. that gives us about 7 months for the shows final 7 seasons to take place in, meaning that by the episode 'point of view' in season 7 we should be around december of 1952. in that episode the pov character starts writing a letter home and in the corner he writes the date:
september of 1951. ok, could be that this episode isn't meant to take place in the regular timeline of the season - maybe for some reason its just like, a random flashback episode. but bj, charles, and potter are all present, even though none of them got to korea until 1952. now i KNOW that this is not like, the True Hidden Secret Lore of MASH, this is the writers realizing they were running out of road and turning back the clock a bit to accommodate for how long the show was running on. but play in my time loop space with me please
more talking points:
consistent jokes about time zones and how difficult it is to call the states because "our today is their yesterday but if you call them now it might not reach them until our tomorrow and by that point our yesterday will be their today"
hawkeye's increasing mania over the seasons and his conviction that the war will never end, comparing the camp to dante's inferno multiple times. maeve once pointed out that the closer hawkeye comes to realizing that he's trapped in a time loop the closer he gets to being institutionalized - and what does the series finale cold open onto ? hawkeye in a mental institution. the only way out is to lose yourself etc. sidenote frank also escaped the time loop by going insane and getting institutionalized
in a war for all seasons bj potter and charles are all present at the 1951 new years party as well as the 1952 new years party
there are three christmas episodes, two of which bj is present for even though he should only have spent one christmas in korea
details of people's families and lives shift around - sometimes potter's got multiple grandchildren, sometimes he only has one, sometimes its a girl, sometimes its a boy, sometimes she's 5, sometimes he's 2
we're not the first people to talk about this either, here's a good video compilation posted a couple yrs ago of time loop moments
overall ive been using the time loop thesis to add another layer to my mash viewing experience. it increases the already present sense of constant dread, anger, frustration, and disgust with their situation that the characters feel, plus it feels like a very poignant take on the united states' constant warmongering and violent existence. it really never ends, it just goes on an on. the future's been canceled by the war department- we're just gonna replay the past.

Taking it out of the tags in other post because I need to know if there are other theories about it.
I might be understanding it all wrong but the interrogation scene seems to show Albrechts fear of coming back to our time not as himself? Fully taken over by man in the wall? OR MORE POSSIBLY that fear of literally not being himself after the void dive incident!! ("The same cursed question still pursued me as it had before: was I, even now, trapped in the rictus of the Wall?") That "But is it really you? After all these years I've-" from the interrogation would go with this quite nicely.
It's that or I'm going insane (both are possible)
It would make sense for Albrecht to be scared of that, going back in time to protect Loid from the indifference only for it to come back wearing Albrechts skin. That would be awful (for loid especially)
ALSO im 100% sure that wally tormented Albrecht that way before (maybe even as early as just after the void dive? fun) (and im sure that wally is portraing a very clear mockery of their relationship)
#but again i might be reading all of this wrong#idk#i hope its readable#damn that update made me talkative#if you have other theories please please tell me i need to know#warframe#warframe 1999 spoilers#Albrecht Entrati#loid entrati#yapping#my stuff#might add more to this later

More thoughts about Orion because I’m insatiable. Some of these are silly:
After the initial awkward guilt, Butler grows to be fond of Orion much in the way that you would be toward a little brother that looks up to you. Orion actually listens to Butler’s lessons and advice, and Butler appreciates it. It makes him feel heard and valued, which is the very least that man deserves.
Orion is just generally more outwardly appreciative of others than Artemis. It’s not that Artemis doesn’t care, just that he has trouble expressing it thanks to how he was raised. Artemis tends to show his love and appreciation through acts of service whereas Orion shows it through words and affirmations.
While the both of them have fairly noticeable accent, Orion’s is a bit more pronounced. His voice is also a lot gentler in tone than Artemis’ is. Orion also almost exclusively refers to their parents as ‘Ma’ and ‘Pa’ instead of ‘Mother’ and ‘Father’ as Artemis does.
Artemis and Orion both envy each other. Artemis envies Orion’s honesty and the freedom he has to be himself, and worries that people are going to like him more because he’s “kinder” (They’re both kind, they just show it differently) while Orion envies the connections that Artemis has with others and the respect people give him, and worries that people will never accept him because he’s not “the real Artemis.” (He is just as accepted as Artemis)
Myles and Beckett can instantly tell who is fronting on their brother’s end. Myles based on behavioral analysis and Beckett based on “vibes.” Fowl Sr. and Angeline are right about half the time. Butler can also tell the two apart fairly easily because he knows Artemis so well, having practically raised him.
When she visits, Juliet likes to show Orion her new wrestling moves. He has never won a match against her and never will, but at least he is trying.
Outside of speaking patterns and body language, one of the biggest tells as to who is out is clothing choices. While Artemis sticks to suits and business casual, Orion is more expressive, wearing a variety of top styles (though he favors ruffled blouses because they make him looks ~romantic~. Artemis is slowly coming around to it.)
Orion is just as capable a novel author as Artemis, perhaps even more so, and the two have a running competition to see who can get more sales. (Orion has his own nom de plume, ‘Rosa Sarred’) Currently Orion is winning.

i keep thinking about a post-royal spinoff where you play as akechi cleaning up the remnants of shido's conspiracy while the main gang is on their P5S roadtrip. except instead of changing their hearts, akechi just beats the shit out of their shadows and intimidates them into submission so hard that it bleeds into their conscious awareness

Thinking about it, this is probably a topic talked about before... But I feel like talking about it anyway!
Ever notice the similar designs between characters and just wonder what types of interactions there would be?
Here's two! One of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Death himself from the Darksiders series! And Jackie Estacado, bearer of the titular Darkness from The Darkness!
Just kinda imagine some crazy stuff going down if these were in the same vicinity. Also probably a huge knock, down drag out fight. And maybe a "common enemy" appears for both to take down after they put aside their differences.
Speaking of the similar designs, pretty sure the creators of each character both worked at Image Comics around the same time. So some talking about designs and sharing ideas probably made this kind of thing happen. Or it's just one big coincidence, I don't really know, I've never met the creator/creators of either.

I mean it’s obviously not very groundbreaking to say that a lot of discussion about fiction lacks nuance (both online and irl), but I really despise how lots of people flatten the effects that fiction can have. The most extreme versions of these discussions are often constructed as either you believe that media should never include anything that depicts harm (bc it will then presumably always harm readers) or you believe that fiction does not have any meaningful capability to harm the reader (an almost complete separation between fiction and reality). I have my issues with the very foundations of this constructed debate, but really what I take issue here online is with how this debate seems exclusively tied to only very specific depictions of harm (most often seen in erotic or shipping drama). Most people miss the bigger picture in order to win arguments. I have a wholehearted belief in the malleability of human thinking as we are often affected, both good and bad, by the fictional narratives that surround our life. Completely separating the good and bad parts of fiction from ourselves would be fundamentally impossible. If fiction aims to reflect the human condition, our desires, anxieties, fears, sadness, and so much more, then we as people also view our lives through the lens of narratives. Fiction, at least in context of American society, is inescapable. This is not say that any harm in fiction will always be reflected back onto the viewer but that try as we might to avoid it, fiction takes part in forming our perception of the world (all art is propaganda etc etc). I think this is really cool! A world where fiction never affected our thinking is more boring world in my opinion. We live in an ambiguous and messy world where discussing the ethics of reading and writing are much more complicated than we often give them credit for.

SO. I'm thinking of doing the Ricci x Ramsey thing but I need some help (it's a late-at-night thing rn and I've never done fics before and I think my writing is still too cringe but if I feel like it I might actually commit to the bit)
For this fic I'm gonna completely ignore OH 2 & 3 and I want Ethan to move to NY (It's way easier to move a single doctor than a whole firm) and also I know Absolutely Nothing about states, its laws, or medicine, so those will either be completely left out or purely bullshitted. (not sorry tbh)
(And it will be mostly fluff, unless I enjoy the conflict between their self deprecating perfectionist workaholic asses too much)
The real help I need is, how tf do these two meet??? I did have an idea but it's too complicated for a self indulgent queer fic

About Me
You've got the basic rundown from my sidebar but what else could there be? So much more obviously lol. This is really long so read at your own risk. I’m only posting this to pin it :P Edit: This is the most recent version of the tumblr pride flags post! There is a list of flags I have done in the replies
Anyways I'm a queer transmasculine guy who's gender is best describe as la croix boy, sparkling guy, or guy-adjacent. I present masculinely in public as well as obviously queer. I’m also mlm/nblm meaning I’m gay and I like dudes.
I am not subtle about being queer at all in any shape or form, nor do I censor or tag it or any other slurs. Being queer is an essential part of my identity, one you can not remove without erasing a part of me. The intersection between my gender and sexuality is complex and I don’t really care for microlabels for myself.
Besides that I have hobbies! Too many of them! I crochet just about anything I’ve done 10in amogus’s, shawls (I love making shawls even though they’re not my style), and useful things like pot holders and wash cloths! I’m also getting into cross stitch. I draw as well as keep bugs. I forget to tag things alot but I usually tag “bugs” “spider” “arachnid” etc. I’m awkward so I don’t post much myself but I reblog stuff about transmascs, the queer community, bugs, and whatever I find funny. This is my old blog from like 2014-2018 that I’m reusing out of laziness so if you’re trying to dig up dirt on me please check post dates lmfao. I am much different now than I was when I was 14-18.
Some of my views: - I (and bigots) don’t give a fuck about slur discourse in respect to the queer community. I’m not gonna censor them, especially if it’s in regards to a persons identity. For example I’m not gonna say “The D*ke March” or the “D-slur March” because I respect them and their right to reclaim and identify themselves. If you ask me to tag tranny, faggot, dyke, etc. you’re better off blocking me/those words and moving on. If you ask me to tag queer, you’re the one catching a block.
- Trans people can not oppress each other on the basis of being trans, but they can hurt eachother personally. A transmasc can perpetuate transmisogyny but trans guys do not oppress trans women/vice versa. - Anti-transmasculinity exists. Actually I’ll go a step further, misandry does exist and mainly manifests against oppressed groups though it is also spread by radfem groups. - Radfems catch a block, I don’t care if you are “trans friendly”, radical feminism is inherently transphobic. Men and Masculinity are not inherently evil, disgusting, or violent and can exist in non-toxic ways. Alongside that, femininity can be toxic and weaponized, such as radical feminism and false rape accusations.
- I don’t want to get into shipping discourse but I lean more pro-ship. I believe censorship demonstrably and inevitably leads to the silencing of minority communities. Tumblr is ironically a good example of this seeing as the porn ban also lead to trans women being labelled “nsfw” for simply existing.

My Brief First-Listen Review of WR2
This is my brief first-listen review of Gallifrey War Room 2 and will be about the entire box set as a whole, instead of each individual story (that will come later, once I emotionally recover from the first listen, to go back and analyze each story). I’ll try to make this spoiler-free for the most part (or as spoiler-free as I can make it without going into specific details), and is mostly made up of my thoughts and feelings about the audios.
Overall Thoughts: I feel this is a solid, cohesive set of audios with a strong theme woven throughout the four episodes. It is very action-oriented and (imho) much darker than previous audios in the Gallifrey series. War Room 2 takes the characters introduced in WR1 and really fleshes them out, adding minor details like House names and Chapter affiliations. The political and military machinations in this box set are insane and really hone in on the chaos that war can bring and the lengths some will take to seize and keep power. Overall, it’s a wild ride…be prepared for the emotional whiplash that comes with many Big Finish stories.

Morgana in my Negaduck's universe was a scary person for even him to deal with. She looked like the sweet and gentle sort, but her personality was twisted, violent, and cruel. He did love her, though. In his universe, she is dead. There are differences in his universe that are direct parallels from the Default DW universe, too. Like he didn't meet Nega!Gosalyn until after Nega!Morgana died. In fact, it's part of why he became her guardian in the first place.

This isn't fully fleshed out, but something I feel needs saying anyway.
Online discourse around privilege and oppression puts too much emphasis on internal identity and too little on how you exist in the outside world. Thinking mainly of LGBT discourse but I'm sure it applies to other areas too.
Example: being trans is tough. That's undebatable. And every trans person has to deal with transphobia. But there's a big difference between, say, a trans woman who came out really young, was visibly GNC before then and is now perceived as just any other woman, compared to one who was closeted for decades, perceived as a heterosexual man with all the benefits thereof, and then comes out and starts living as a woman. It's an extremely different set of experiences. Much like how being born male and later coming out as a trans woman will always be different from being born female.
This isn't an argument about who has it worse or better. It's an acknowledgment of different positions people occupy based on their past and present which IMO is sorely lacking in so many conversations.
And this isn't trans specific either. Sticking to sexuality, I've never been properly perceived as heterosexual or been in a hetero relationship, and have been in a same sex marriage for 4 years and counting. Compare and contrast with a closeted gay/bi man who's been married to a woman for years or decades. Once again, two very different sets of experiences but if the sole focus was on 'identity' we'd be treated as one and the same.
And I think a big reason this problem exists is because so much social media discourages or outright makes impossible any sense of nuance or meaningful conversation.
