T*ylor had 10 fucking years to stop tell her fans to stop "shipping" her & her friends and be a true ally to the lgbt community, she only says it now cause her popularity has skyrocketed with the release of her rerecorded albums

imo it’s the eras tour that really brought her back into the public eye so annoyingly, bc the rereleases haven’t been doing too well. red tv was fine and fearless tv was okay but speak now tv bombed and people are complaining about 1989 tv.

she only speaks about things when it starts to affect her album sales. especially this year, she hasn’t responded to or done anything fans suggested until it started to slow down sales (ex. the “don’t harass my ex” attempt, “I always post about midterms!!”, and so on). there’s always a correlation there, so maybe it’s the crit of 1989 tv that’s pushing her to say things she should’ve said over a decade ago.

April 2023, week 2

back from my 18 day break due to chickenpox and holy week and... i wouldn't say this week's tiring much since i just had a long break and i'm surprisingly efficient this week ?? and i love it, haha.

as week recap, personal:

had 3 blood works done in a week (antigen and antibody test for hepa b and a fasting blood screening) and grateful all of them got good results - meaning i can also save up the supposed $11-45 (Php 600-2500) for my hepa b booster + my sugar levels are still good (my family on both sides has type 2 diabetes, so got to watch that as someone w a sweet tooth + unable to workout & always sleep deprived).

also on the 5th picture on the left side, that day i was soooo gratefully full. i spent the afternoon at my uncle's cafe, had lunch and studied there and aside from the chicken pesto i ordered for lunch, he bought me grilled cheese w fries as study snack probs felt bad from how i was falling asleep doing my readings for one of my reports.

...dyed my hair last week into rlly dark copper and now i bleach washed this friday and i have a reverse ombre of orange to brown ... wasn't aware it was the opposite w bleaching (ends to roots then dyeing from roots to ends) and i got all panick-y but now i like it but will balance it out as soon as my order comes

concluded i'd much rather leave for uni at 5am than later even for a 9am class, the commute was more tiring + slower

i was feeding only one cat outside our house and now... they're four 🥹

academic recap:

hehe aced my mechanical ventilator return demonstration on tuesday, submitted a 13-page summary for the same class on 3 chapters (had a skin tear from writing too much)

have 3 reports lined up for may, one for a minor and 2 major (hemodynamics and critical care) and so far i'm done with the content of my parts for both hemo and crit care

lecs on crit care and pedia then had online classes for both friday and sat due to inclement weather, allowing me to get my fbs blood work on sat bc it... it didn't rain at all hahaha

then my make up exam for hemodynamics for midterms also got pushed to tuesday since my prof didn't want to give it to me online even when proctored, understandable tho.

Week 6? Midterm Critique

Hello my wonderful tumblr blog!!!!!!

This week we had our midterm crit where we showed three main factors:

POV Statement + Surface ideas

I was SOOOO ready to go with my presentation but at the same time I was not feeling too sure with my surface ideas. At this moment, I had chosen two to present: the blog and the expansion of BrandNewMe.com (both ideas shown in last week's post).

Both fun ideas! I won't lie, but I didn't really feel drawn to them as a Capstone project, so I went and took a step back and looked at my POV statement, and thought about.. DECISIONS!!! (and still parallel universes)

So when I also went back through my collection and notes and all my research I had remembered Black Mirror's Bandersnatch, an interactive film where the viewer actually makes the choices for the main protagonist. That's cool.

That mixed with my other sources made me think that I can create a sort of interactive experience, and then remembered that YouTube lets you create interactive short films by adding unlisted videos at the end, and I thought that was such a cool idea!!!! And I decided to pitch that as my surface idea.

Also finally turned one of my questions from last week into an actual statement:

THE FEELING OF LOSS FOR A PERSON WE NEVER WERE MAY COME FROM UNFULFILLED DESIRES OR DREAMS WE'VE ENVISIONED BUT NEVER PURSUED.

Also I JUST realized how to add color to text. Yay ❤️ .

I got amazing feedback during the crit, one being that of course the narrative would be very important, so I am going to start brainstorming on possible ideas.

I was also introduced to Twine, which is an open source tool for making stories which I haven't heard of. Definitely will use it this week for my prototype.

Not sure if the narrative in this upcoming week's prototype will be THE narrative, mainly because I just want to experiment with twine first.

2D Class - MIDTERM Assignment: Create a Non-Objective Compostion with a Limited palette , 5/30/23

We have arrived at week four of the semester. 

Since this is a quick semester, we have to use this week to complete this assignment.

The Midterm is the largest grade of the semester.

As you decide on how to develop a successful idea consider the factors involved in providing you that grade.

I have noted them below.

This assignment will not get  done in one class.

You have today  to start planning . 

Hopefully, eveeryone used the holiday weekend to buy the class materials.

You will begin working on this assignment immediately after class..

I will allow students the following days to work on this:

Tuesday (05/30/23)  - Begin the assignment

Wednesday (05/31/23 ) - Continue working and improving the design

Thursday ( 06/1/23) - Continue with the assignment and use all time from Thurs through the weekend to do your best work. 

Post your final work by 5 pm on Sunday with a brief artist statement.

We will have a formal critique on Monday 06/05/23 at 9:30 am .

 I will be using Sunday to collect the assignments from your portfolio for a formal Crit on that Monday.

 Immediately after the critique we will begin with instructions regarding Final assignments for the semester

MIDTERM ASSIGNMENT: 

Create a Non-Objective Composition with a Limited Palette.

The outcome of your work needs to show that you have spent time considering all options to create a sucessful working composition.

This assignment will require proper planning  to develop a concept that shows you have learned and understand the principles of art and how they work together to create successful works of art. 

Throughout this assignment you also will highlight your understanding of color theory , line and shape, the principles of repetition, variety, balance , emphasis, scale and compositional unity.

Go back on your notes and review those  concepts as you work to develop this idea.

All the work you have been doing since the start of the semester has prepared you to complete this assignment.

For this assignment, color,line  and shape will be the driving force behind your design to create an interesting composition.

Create FOUR ( 6 INCH ) SQUARES:

You will create a  Non-Objective composition, using ONLY FOUR (6 INCH) SQUARES in a cut and paste design that also utilizes a limited palette of only  FOUR COLORS. 

Choose FOUR COLORS:

THIS IS THE KEY TO THE ASSIGNMENT, it is important to choose four good colors. 

There is no limit as to how much of any of the four colors are used in each composition as long as all four colors are represented in each 6 inch square.

The FOUR COLORS should be harmonious and should represent a full range of value.

Each of the four ground sheets (6 inch square)  will consist of one of the four colors.

You will represent each of the four colors in each square as  your background color.

The additional three colors in each square will be used to balance the visual weight of each color as you create your design and you balance  the composition.

You will have four different compositions that can stand on their own but can also work and relate to each other.

This is a cut and paste assignment.

You will use glue stick to attach the shapes to your surface sheet.

You will layer each color.

That means that if the ground sheet is blue and I am also using green , yellow and pink , I can lay the (green , yellow and pink) on top of the surface sheet and each other depending on my design.

You will have up to four layers in one design for  each 6 Inch square .

NOTE:

NO NEUTRALS MAY BE USED (BLACK, WHITE, GREY , BROWN)

1) Start by choosing four colors.

Review the blog on Color theory again to choose your colors.

Remember the properties of colors and how they interact with each other. That will be important when you create your design.

2) Use FOUR sheets, one 9 x 12 Bristol Page for each color.

3) Apply each color uniformly. (No brush marks)

4) Now cut out 6 inch squares from each color.

These will be your surface sheets , all four of them.

5) The remainder colors will be used to add the design to each surface sheet.

ALL FOUR COLORS NEED TO BE REPRESENTED.

All compositions have the constant of using the same palette (color group ).

The trick is to figure out how to balance each color so that not (one) color becomes predominant. 

In doing so all colors work with each other in a balanced act.

You might add an additional constant of a Shape , or Line.

Remember the principles of  Variety, Repetition , Scale.

Have a variety of Shapes and or  Lines.

All FOUR COMPOSITIONS need to stand on their own uniqueness but also work together as a group.

Once all four square compositions are completed , YOU WILL MOUNT THEM ON THE ILLUSTRATION BOARD.

MOUNTING ON THE ILLUSTRATION BOARD:

KEEP ½ inch between EACH SQUARE  as you center design and frame the work within the 15 x 15  illustration board.

You will earn your grade by mastering the following components:

CRAFTMANSHIP - is important, you will loose points if there are mistakes related to it. Work needs to be glued without any sides lifting.

ORIGINALITY - This is your own idea not copied from anything I have posted on the blog.

CREATIVITY - You’re ability to come up with a creative solution to this assignment while creating a harmonious balanced composition. A solution that expresses your understating of how these principles are elements are used to create design.

MIDTERM is DUE ON TUMBLR on Sunday 06/04/2023 by 5 pm with a brief artist statement on your intentions .

Your artist statement will adress the following information:

a) How did you approach your project ? 

b) Why did you choose those specific colors?

c) What preliminary work did you do to work out a successful idea?

d) How do you feel about the outcome of your design? 

e) How did your understanding of the Principles of art play a role ain helping you develop this idea?

I have posted some  examples of student work to give you an idea.

As always come up with your own original IDEA.

Notice in the first assignment how each square balances color.

Remember that some colors are louder and some quieter.

Progress on my main studio film

Progress on my film about Miles is going well. Its a touchy subject for me, obviously, but I feel the midterm crits went well. I got a lot of good ideas from the class and from my instructors. I'll work on implementing them in the coming weeks, as well as doing lots of coloring and clean up. In summary, its full steam ahead from here. Here are some of the assets and the WIP reel.

I have a class Wed/Fri and I was just looking over the syllabus again bc I missed a day and I see she put "you get two days (a week) of absenses before it affects your grade so make sure to reserve it for important dates ie midterms and final crits"....two days...over a whole semester.....are you serious

Midterm Crit Feedback

Overall, it sounds like my project is on the right track and is both making sense to my critics and also seemed to provoke some excitement (?) I'm really looking forward to continuing with my thesis making now. From the sound of my feedback, it seems that I need to work on trying to work the "why" into my pitch a little bit better. While my paper strongly addresses this "why" and roots my project in anti-capitalism, I didn't necessarily try and heavily introduce that in my 10-minute presentation. This was mostly because of the way that my first mock presentation was received and also, of course, because of the time limit. I *believe* my paper really does delve more deeply into this question, but that's also something I need to confirm. Secondly, Kyle seemed to think my work might function interestingly as a series of "mini games". I'm not sure if that feels quite right, or if it might push down the original intent of the project, but again something I need to start thinking about. Thirdly, I think it's important that at some point (maybe not immediately) I need to think about how to convey my core thesis question through my prototypes. Though this is of course essential, I think I can let myself continue to make for now, and think more about that later.

Questions that still need to be answered:

* Do I want to focus solely on the internet?

* Perhaps I can shift to queering HCI (though my research hasn’t really focused yet on that)?

* Do I want to continue to make smaller experiences for my 7-in-7 or should I work to answer another series of questions over the course of the next week?

* How might games fit into the form of my project? Play seems to be the ultimate non-utilitarian behavior and therefore would make sense in the context of my project, but do I want to also mix my project up in the world of games as well? 

Regarding the last question: I applied to speak at QGCon 2020 in the summer with what I think will be my thesis project. My project doesn’t exactly discuss games, but I did talk about the importance of incorporating play as a methodology. I suppose if my application is accepted then perhaps that is telling...
