So, you know how certain Christian missionaries are trained to act in a very obnoxious way, so that most people they preach to will reject them outright, so they feel like the world hates them for being Christian and they can only be friends with fellow Christians? You know that thing?

I think as activists, we sometimes need to stop and ask ourselves whether we're acting like those missionaries. I think this type of behavior is a little more ingrained into our society than some of us realize, and some of us have internalized it without realizing what it's actually meant to do.

Briana Boston is a 42 year old mother of three from Florida who is under house arrest for expressing her frustration at her insurance (which she PAYS for) who denied her claim. She owns ZERO guns and doesn't have a criminal record.

She was originally held in prison for $100,000 bail. They have not dropped the charges and she is under house arrest even after widespread backlash.

They are trying to charge her with terrorism. They want her to spend 15 years in prison.

They are calling her a Luigi Mangione copycat. As if she killed someone. She made a indirect, not at all credible threat.

Meanwhile...

I want every woman who has ever faced threats online, stalking, etc to bring this Briana Boston up at every opportunity. Every time you were told by police that there was nothing they could do, know that they not only CAN do something, but they WILL do something, just not for you.

Stop asking. Write the story yourself and give me a good reason why the character you think would win should win. Make it make sense. Make it compelling. Remember that a fight isn't just a dick power level measuring contest. Make them use their brains, let them outwit their opponent when it would make sense.

Write a goddamn motherfucking story instead of trying to make it a math problem. Fictional characters exist within stories, not within a void. The answer to "who would win" regardless of the matchup will always be "whoever you can convince me would win with a story that fits the characters, their personalities, their powers, the limitations of their world and what happens if you take them out of it, etc."

Shifting of what queerbaiting means really pisses me off. Queerbaiting is intentionally portraying het characters in a platonic relationship as if they are queer and then having them explicitly confirmed as het.

Like yeah OP I agree actually. I don't want anyone to kiss in the end. I want to be able to have 5 different ships half of which involve more than 2 people and have none of them sunk. I want to be able to headcanon half the characters as aroace.

But that's not baiting, it's ambiguity. The thing people read as "bait" just tends to amount to general chemistry. Bait is bad because you lose, if nothing is confirmed everyone can win.
