I've been thinking about Imelda's complete faith and investment in the Trust, and how it allows her to twist anything For The Good Of The Trust, like she full on tortured a guy. It also comes up in these small ways - the hypocrisy runs deep AND it's on the surface plain as day.

The first time she meets Weepe she asks him if a tearror did something to him and then chastises Penny for doing the same. Of course, she's probably also attempting to deflect conversation and speculation away from "how did the Tripotentiary get like that" because she contributed to it, but underlying it is this: "it's totally fine for me to be intrusive and rude but you can't be".

And she could so easily justify why she asked, and why it's good to know about the backstory of people you're bringing into the Trust, and she was asking for her own safety! Imagine if "that kind of thing" could happen on Midst if you didn't have the right light bulbs! The horror!

But like....

Not to get into it on main but it's really reminding me of white American suburban Christianity and how manners are treated as this paramount virtue, while at the same time people are nice without being kind, and the way the hypocrisy is just swept under the rug and pointing out inconsistencies is taboo. And how people with power can get away with anything, from impoliteness to abuse.

Just read an interview with Third Person where they were like "yeah so seasons 1 and 2 were made in our off-time so they're not our Best Effort but now we got Critical Role as our sugar daddy we can work on Midst full time and so season 3 is Lit AF" and I'm like

BITCH it's ALREADY like stepping off a glass cliff into the endless abyss and finding yourself walking on a liquid black void upside down WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU GOT EVEN SMUGGER SHENANIGANS AND HORRORS IN YOUR PANTS

"Heheh. Uh-oh,"

WHAM.

If you're not caught up, I'm begging you watch Moonward 1-3 so you can experience Wednesday's finale as soon as possible. You need this story in your veins, I promise. Xen's music is a PC at this table, and that PC is a stark raving genius.
