Prompt: Practical Magic Yennaia AU. Tissaia and Rita are sisters with magic and a family curse where any man who fell in love with a woman in their family is doomed to die. Not wanting to die of a broken heart like their mother did, Tissaia creates a love spell as a little girl for her to fall in love with a raven haired violet eyed woman who didn’t exist.
Years later as adults, Tissaia and Rita accidentally kill Vilgefortz and the man comes back as undead after casting a necromancy spell, bringing raven haired and violet eyed detective Yennefer Vengerberg to their doorstep.

Midnight Margaritas
Tumblr media
IT'S HERE!!!!!! Happy Fic O'Ween 2024 everyone, affectionately titled “maybe it’s magic, maybe it’s frat boy margaritas” :)) I am so excited for this year's theme--making puzzles out of fests is my new favorite thing. Can you guess the Halloween movie of each fic? What about the overarching one for all thirteen?
Character credit goes to @lumosinlove and header/ fest credit belongs to @noots-fic-fests!
TW for alcohol
2 3 4 5? ounces of tequila. The good kind. Probably.
“Ah, fuck me.”
“It’s fine, nobody will notice.”
“It’s burning my nose.”
“The acid cuts it. Just blend it more.”
Juice of 1 lime
“Move, move—hey, cher, did you put a new thing of crackers out?”
“I’m doing the mulled wine, Fish said he’d take care of it.”
“…why are the marg limes in the—”
“Shit.”
Triple sec (or anything with orange) (except orange juice, you freaks). A splash. Eyeball it.
“Okay, Cap and Loops are Ubering, guest room for T and Nolly, Alex is DD?”
“Yeah, he’s good. Oh, and Dumo just left.”
“Reg is staying on the foldout, by the way. Knutty’s setting up.”
“I love that thing.”
“We’re still not bringing it into our bedroom.”
Ice
“I really for sure put too much tequila in.”
“I’m telling you, blending it makes it fine.”
“What happened? You two look…focused.”
“A generous two ounces of tequila.”
“Scoot over, I’ll make a simple syrup.”
“Will that help?”
“With the taste? Sure.”
Shake Blend until well-mixed (this was a terrible idea).
“Oh—Christ Almighty, Harz.”
“Lo distracted me.”
“To spill half a bottle of—”
“It wasn’t half.”
Salt rim of glasses (essential)
“Mm. We should put chili powder in it next time. What am I talking about? I have my tajín.”
“Peanut, I love you, but I think chili margaritas might actually kill some people on this team. Including me.”
Pour blended margaritas into seasonally-appropriate glasses (once again, salt rim not optional), and enjoy!
“Happy Halloween, mes amours.”
“Happy Hallo-housewarming.”
“Oof, you both taste like tequila. Reg said your mulled wine was good, Lo. He stole the oranges out of mine.”
“Lucky for you, I know how to make more.”
“That’s the spirit. I thought I kept you around for a reason.”
“To autumnal revelry, a good fuckin’ party, and no morning alarms?”
“The best things always come in threes.”
“C’est vrai. Santé.”

waltzing with a demon prince at hell's eternal midnight ball | waltz loop 6hrs
the sweep of your skirts. the strong arm around your waist. the dark eyes of your companion.
you do not know for how long you have been dancing, and yet you are not tired. trapped forever in this moment of delicious anticipation as your heart soars in time with the music, the two of you gliding across the floor in a perfect waltz. your mind catches on thoughts of what comes next. the long slide of satin as your gloves are pulled free. calloused fingers on your bare flesh. but you have been dancing forever. will that future never come to pass?
"is it not," his lips brush against the shell of your ear, "an exquisite torture?"
a soiree in venice - rogelio de egusquiza barrena c.1885 | waltz no. 2 shostakovich (Шостакович) c.1938

Excerpt from The Confessions of Ry Cash. Published posthumously. ♫
I have often heard gossip, from friend and enemy alike (though those labels are changeable) about my marriage to Victor. Whether it was really "love." Who was manipulating whom.
Tumblr media
The favorite story was that I was a victim - barely a woman (because twenty nine is as good as nineteen, in some people's minds) torn from her career, her stable life, and brought to Victor's side. Rhythm brought family to the wedding, this story goes, Victor brought politicians!
Tumblr media
The other story goes the other way. The sly, conniving Rhythm Cash, daughter of sly, conniving Margarita Cash, wooed her way into poor Victor's bedroom, did away with his wife. She sent Lily to the moon, this story goes, Victor had no part in it!
Tumblr media
They are equally false. What they do both get right is one detail: Victor and I were not in love at the time of our wedding.
Tumblr media
For most, the dance of courtship ends at the altar. For us, this was only the first step. Our romance was of a different sort.
Tumblr media
The fact of the matter was, our marriage was as much a business venture, as it was a "tying of the knot." Victor and I both had connections, we both had money, and we both had grand plans. It was only sensible to pool our resources. And if the experience of it was pleasant? All the better.
Tumblr media
He was just as much a servant to my manipulation as I was to his. It was wholly mutual destruction.

My top books I read in 2023:
1: Sirens of Titan (Kurt Vonnegut) - I love Vonnegut’s writing so much, and Sirens is such a great narrative on free will and loving whoever is around to be loved. (Plus chrono-synclastically-infundibulated is just fun to say)
2: Invisible Man (Ralph Ellison) - already a book about important social issues that are still incredibly relevant today, Ellison’s style portrays a lifelike picture of the politics of race in America.
3: Midnight’s Children (Salman Rushdie) - The language and style of this book make it a delight to read as Rushdie paints an incredible mural across a canvas of Indian historical events interwoven with the supernatural to create an amazing story.
4: Job, A Comedy of Justice (Robert Heinlen) - Excellent satire of fundamentalist religion, packed with jokes and reality shifts, a complex world that goes from Mexico to Kansas to heaven to hell has a lot to say about religion.
5: The Master and Margarita (Mikhail Bulgakov) - The Devil and his entourage cause chaos in Soviet Moscow, in addition to a narrative about Pontius Pilate. An excellent and absurd premise sets up a criticism of humanity but also a defense of it, both in Judea 2000 years ago and now.
6: Ficciones (Jorge Luis Borges) - While the writing can be dense, so much is packed into these short stories parsing the meaning is definitely worth it. Fantastical scenarios act as mirrors to reality and each story leaves just enough to the readers imagination to make it a compelling and thought provoking work about the labyrinthine ways of reality.
7: Things Fall Apart (Chinua Achebe) - I love novels you can get lost in, and such a rich portrayal of Igbo life easily lends itself to a complex world that many people failed to see about Africa. Important social issues are dealt with and both extreme ways of living are critiqued in a compelling narrative.
8: Bluebeard (Kurt Vonnegut) - A coming of age a going of age and the Armenian diaspora are explored through the life of Abstract Expressionist artists and what it has to say about culture, society, and gender roles. You have to keep reading to see what’s in the potato barn, and when all is revealed it makes a lot of sense for Vonnegut.
9: Kafka on the Shore (Haruki Murakami) - So much happens in the book you are riveted as the chapters bounce between characters. An excellent hook grabs you in and doesn’t let you go. Murakami’s imagination runs wild and this strange reinterpretation of oedipus makes you think.
10: Cat’s Cradle (Kurt Vonnegut) - Newt Hoenikker said it best - “no damn cat, and no damn cradle.”
