Music system nerds help me
I have this thing but my grandad never taught me how to use it I can't even get it to turn on but i know it works because he was using it like days before he died
I wanna listen to shit through the speakers that are blown the fuck out like we used to
I wouldn't even know which subreddits to ask for help getting this thing working ngl
It's a Philips midi system f 763 cd with a couple speakers and a record player (not pictured) hooked into it I can't seem to find anything about it from googling that unfortunately
The record player resting on top of it in the photo is unrelated

if i hear another person talk about a retro game, system, or computer having a specific "soundfont" i think i'm gonna lose all will to live and spontaneously drop dead in front of them
#juney.txt#not how it works besties#older 8 bit machines generally had bespoke synthesizer chips that could output some square waves and some noise.#maybe some sine and saw waves if you were lucky#the megadrive had a yamaha chip in it but sega the bastards never gave devs proper instructions on how to use it#so a lotttt of devs just used the inbuilt settings on the development software they had#so a lot of megadrive games sound similar even though the system was technically capable of a lot more </3#the snes was allllll samples all day#any sounds you wanted you had to hand to the chip in advance#no inbuilt synths for you#anyway in all of these cases music data was just stored as raw computer instructions.#literally just code telling the audio hardware what to do each frame#no midis involved and simply slapping a soundfont someone made on a midi file someone else made does not constitute an ''8-bit'' cover

#thinking about the main character of a game i want to make. siiiiigh#guy struggles with learning game engine basics while dreaming of making an open world game solo. more at 11#is it reeeaally so much to ask for to be able to code the whole thing & create a fighting game based combat system & compose an#entire soundtrack & draw all key art and character designs with extensive fauna and flora#& optimize a lush open world to run on lower end/handheld hardware &. by GOD i did not even mention the tea brewing system#and the animal befriending mechanics and the joycon gyro controlled in-game instrument with midi support for PC#okay i say open world but i am going to have loading screens because i believe in the everlasting spirit of human imagination and i think#no one will cry shit their pants and rattle their enclosure bars if they have to suspend disbelief for 4 seconds#taking a trip to the art museum like UM. why did all these painters use canvases with edges... how am i supposed to be immersed now.#also as per standard procedure i am just projecting my traits onto the characters i make. i only know da doggy paddle#well that's a lie i technically know freestyle but. its scary. whud if i get wader in my moutg

dilemma of the day i have like 13 seconds of a song stuck in my head but the only lyrics i remember are like the most generic words imaginable & i only remember it from a (semi?) popular flipnote chain but i dont know any of the creator names so im trying to look thru the archive at any mv post and im having just no luck this is going to be my quest of the week i feel like.
in other news i miss u edgy furry amateur animations with a childs approximation of what gore is
#i DID find one song i was not looking for#and let me tell u if i had the song series back then i would make the worst fan animation of apoptosis to this song#i could theoretically do it now but the animation process makes me want to eat nails#anyway im probably going to keep at this until i manage to find it. i cleared my sd cards recently#so if i did have it saved its not anymore#COMPLETELY forgot about flipnote when i was clearing them i was just solely searching for an old midi file#which i didnt find. lost forever. one of the first forfy songs. never to be heard again#oerhaps for the best bc as a kid i was like. why would i not make every instrument as loud as possible.#[insert good bar tweet here]#but i feel like if i still had it i could work it into something usable. sad#if i could fix my old 3ds it might still be saved to system memory but ive given up on that as this point(lie)

Come meet me and hang out at the Vintage Computer Fest in Orange, Ca this weekend, Feb 17th and 18th at booth E37. I’ll be showcasing some of our obsolete data storage drives, their media and audio media formats, how we transfer media to a modern platform for archival for clients, specializing in DAW and sequencer file conversion. I’ll have a PowerPC Mac running Vision, EZ Vision, Alchemy, Music Mouse with some synthesizer, sampler and drum machines. I’ll also have a demonstrations of sampler audio file transfer, Gotek floppy drive emulation, Greaseweasel, PiSCSI for Mac and samplers and our collection midi controlled vintage game console synthesizers: MidiNES, Midi Atari 2600 with Synthcart, SuperMidiPak and GenMDM.

they should hurry up & make rpgmaker free so i can make sh3 demake as a fun little project to entertain myself. I am Not spending however much money I need for all the assets to do it.
#yeah it regularly goes on sale but most of the assets i would need i also have to buy separately & Those Don't go on sale.#so total price would end up being near $200 or more & as much as i wanna try to make this just for fun. i am Not spending that much for it.#not to mention however long it takes me to learn how the system's work & actually start Making it. fixing any bugs. writing dialogue.#learning to code this shit. replaying the original game countless times so i can accurately remake each level. character sprites.#learning the notes for each song & somehow learning how to translate that all to midi versions so i don't get copyright hell.#this project would take god knows how long & god know's how much money. who knows how much files space I'd waste on it.#But man i still do want to do it. it's up there with the two graphic novel/animated shows I wanna make. But probably won't ever happen.
