I mean, we could start to make the argument that Tolkein's work has three partial Christ figures rather than the single lion-Jesus of the Narniad. Tolkein's Christ is split into his three roles: King, Priest, and Sacrifice.

The King. Born of a line of the greatest kings that ever lived (though also some pretty bad ones!), yet born in obscurity and poverty. Destined and prophecied before his birth to rise and rule and reclaim the throne of his fathers, and usher in an age of peace.

The Priest. The joining point between God(s) and mortals, who speaks righteousness and wisdom to the weak and to the strong, to the good and to the bad, fearless of consequence. Oh, and this particular Priest is also deathless (in TFOTR film, when Gandalf falls and we see him silhouetted against the Balrog's fire, he falls cruciform. I do not believe that was accidental.)

The Sacrifice. An innocent who willingly bears the weight of all the world's evil on his shoulders in order to destroy it, and is destroyed by his burden.

In the books, when Aragorn is crowned, Frodo carries the crown to Aragorn, Gandalf puts the crown on his head. And all three Christ figures line up So I'd say your grandma is 1/3 right.

On this day in Middle Earth history (November 3rd) the Battle of Bywater took place in the Shire, marking the end of the War of the Ring! Which means... It's her day.

Imagine Elrond rescuing an uncharacteristically cute warg puppy. It's mother rejected it and the orcs think that something so cute will be no good to them and Elrond rescues it before they kill it. Gil-Galad/Galadriel/Durin are understandably disapproving and worriedly question his sanity. But it ends up being like the wolf who was raised by a sheep and becomes fiercely protective of him. Goes into battle alongside him or he sometimes rides it into battle.
